This season has been filled with so much drama, it feels like a reality show. Huge wins, painful losses, changes in players and managers, and now there is a search for Milan's Next Top Sporting Director. To sort all this out, I invited Paul, the President of the Milan Club Adelaide, to tell us what it is like to be a Milan fan in Australia, and what it was like to have the club come to Australia last summer, including that amazing coreo, (spoiler alert: we find out who the awesome Zia was who was sewing the coreo!!) We also spent plenty of time discussing everything happening at the club right now, including the first team, Conceição, Milan Futuro, Milan Primavera, and the management.

On this Episode:

• Milan Origin Story • Milan Club Adelaide • Milan in Australia • Injury Update • First Team Recent Matches • Comparing Coaches • Milan Futuro Update • Milan Primavera Update • Milan's Next Top Sporting Director • Upcoming Matches Thanks once again to Paul, for telling us all about Milan Club Adelaide, the adventures of Milan in Australia, and talking about everything going on at Milan now, too. Please follow Paul on Instagram, follow Milan Club Adelaide on Instagram and Facebook, check out the club's website milanclubadelaide.com.au and also follow Milanisti Down Under to get the news on their upcoming podcasts, too.

This is a really tough time to be a Milan fan. With the effects of poor management decisions growing exponentially, and the fans getting angrier and angrier, it is difficult to remain calm when results are poor. Like crashing out of the Champions League. Or losing our game in hand, effectively ending our chances for Champions League qualification for next year. Or losing to Lazio at home after going down to ten men. Thankfully, my fellow Milanista Søren was willing to join me to help process some of the things happening at the club and provide some crisis intervention training for our fellow Milan fans.

On this Episode:

• News of the Week • First Team Recent Matches • Milan Futuro Update • Milan Primavera Update • Crisis Milan • Upcoming Matches Mange tak once again to my future fellow countryman, Søren, for helping us figure out how to cope in this time of Milan crisis.

You can find Elaine on BlueSky, Instagram, Threads, and Twitter to keep up with news and new posts or generally find out if she is surviving Milan's crisis or not.

A lot can happen in 14 years. Since the Milan Obsession blog was founded 14 years ago, Milan have changed owners three times, had eleven different managers, won two Scudetti and two Supercoppa trophies. I've seen a lot. This podcast is now 12 years old, and even though I am not able to record regularly, I had to make sure I marked this momentous occasion by bringing on a new guest who was worthy of such a massive milestone. So luckily, Christina was kind enough to join me to talk about her Milan origin story, the January transfers, recent matches, Conceição and more.

On this Episode:

• Milan Origin Story • Transfer News • Milan Futuro Transfers • Recent Matches • Milan Futuro Recap • Milan Primavera Recap • Conceição. Discuss. • Upcoming Matches Thanks you once again to Christina for sharing her Milan origin story and her thoughts about the current state of Milan. Please give her a follow on BlueSky @c0la.sedici.me

Thank you also to all those who have read, listened, been a guest, commented, followed on social media or otherwise participated in the Milan Obsession sphere for the past 14 years. Let's hope the next 14 are even better for Milan!

You can find Elaine on social media to keep up with news and new posts or generally find out if Milan has killed her yet or not.

Sometimes things, big things, happen in life that stand in the way of getting things done. Other times, everything just converges and creates the perfect storm. The first reason is why this episode is being published literally a week late. But the second was the point of our whole discussion. Milan have faced a perfect storm this season, and we needed some good luck, as well. The past few years, Milan have had one of the youngest teams in Europe. And yet, if you look at those players, how many of them have we failed? Looking back, youth development has been non-existent. Now, there is a new youth project rumored on the horizon, even though consistency seems to be the biggest way we have failed our youth in the past. Jesús and I looked back and then forward to talk about how Milan is still failing our youth.

On this episode:

  • The Galliani Era
  • Young players loaned and sold
  • Criteria for developing youth
  • Future youth project?

Milan are enjoying an increase and both mentality and results just in time for midseason player ratings, I guess they wanted higher numbers. So I called my favorite Milan female fan to have a girl’s night and rate the entire team and talk about everything else at Milan.

The perfect girl’s night involves getting together with the best, so I obviously invited Angie of Milan Club Philly. Follow her on Twitter @angiefante and Instagram angiefante and be sure to support Milan Club Philly by following @MilanClubPhilly on Twitter, MilanClubPhilly on Instagram and @MilanClubPhilly on Facebook. For our midseason ratings, we discussed:

  • Becoming a Fan: Personal story

  • Gender Differences: Discussing the gender differences in football

  • Transfer Market: updates on moves that are complete
  • Match Reviews: talking the recent matches
  • Midseason Player Ratings: rating all of the players

After ending the calendar year on a 20 year low, Milan fans were given a great gift in the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Perhaps the gift is not brand new or shiny, but it is a gift of healing for fans who remember the summer of 2012. Ibrahimovic may not be able to fix Milan, but for quality-deprived Milan fans, he gives Milan a big fix.

To start of the new year, we invited Federico back to the podcast from Milan Club Buenos Aires. You can follow him on Twitter @Fefinho83 and follow the club @MilanClubBAires. This time around, we discussed:

  • Lightning Round: Quick favorites

  • The Return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic: bringing closure
  • Match Reviews: talking the recent matches

Milan’s fortunes are taking an upturn, no matter how briefly, just in time to celebrate the 120th birthday of the club. We talked about all of the things going on at Milan, including recent matches as well as our favorite memories. Happy 120th Milan!

For such an epic podcast, and with Jonathan on vacation, I had to find epic guests, so of course I invited Dave and Angie from @MilanClubPhilly. Follow them on Twitter and Instagram @MilanClubPhilly, and follow Angie on Twitter @AngieFante.

  • Lightning Round: Quick favorites

  • News of the Week: Lega Serie A leadership, epic smacktalk, injury, racism, Bennacer, sports bar, Sport for All

During the International Break, there is less Milan to talk about, but that doesn’t stop the media from spewing rumors and “news.” Amongst their finest work, there were plenty of tell-all interviews with ex-Milan people who have nothing better to do than talk because they are unemployed. So instead, this time around, we gave more fans a chance to shape the conversation.

Filtering the hysteria, Jonathan and I talked about:

  • News of the Week: Subs, partnerships, third generation Milan, agent swap, coach choices, fighting racism sitting down, jail time, retirement tears, virtual coach
  • Match Reviews: talking the recent match
  • Questions from Obsessed Fans: answering listener questions
  • Coming Up: upcoming matches

If you read what the media are writing about Milan, you’ll know that Milan as a club has died 29 times in the past two weeks, and the world has also ended multiple times, too. Social media has created a level of hysteria around Milan that makes the Y2K conspiracy theorists look sane and stable. Amongst the turmoil, there are actually some positives and signs of progress, but you have to look past the distraught voices in order to see the calm in the storm.

Filtering the hysteria, Jonathan and I talked about:

  • News of the Week: New channel, stadium update, expecting, end of the world agent, Cutrone #NeverForget, new book, injury update
  • Match Reviews: talking recent matches and Pioli
  • Management, Money, and More: latest info on the business side
  • Coming Up: upcoming matches

After the Giampaolo experiment ended in tragedy and 15 dropped points, we were more than happy to usher in the Pioli Era. With immediate improvement in play, it was a lot easier to swallow dropping two points against Lecce. Off the pitch, however, there was shocking financial news, so the harrowing experience of being a Milan fan still continues, despite improvements on the pitch.

To talk about the issues on and off the pitch, we needed a lifelong Milan fan. So of course we asked Francesco, the president of the Curva Sud America. You can follow him on Twitter @FrancescoPetra8. We talked about:

  • Lightning Round: quick faves
  • News of the Week: Ciao Giampaolo, welcome Pioli, Caldara is back, new babies, UEFA ban, Golden Boy, deep lagoon, fighting racism
  • Match Reviews: talking recent match
  • Finances: Shocking deficit, increased costs, decreased revenue
  • Pioli: discussing the new mister
  • Coming Up: upcoming matches

With the shockingly poor results, the horrific discipline issues, and the indescribable lineups, Giampaolo’s future at Milan is the center of much discussion. We talked about everything at Milan, but especially the theory that we have all been subjected to intentional pain.

Things have just gone from bad to worse, so we wanted some fresh perspective. We invited Adam to join us, of amazing graphic design fame. Follow him on Twitter @AdamFrassinoro and scroll through his timeline to check out his work. In spite of our suffering, we discussed:

  • Lightning Round: quick faves
  • News of the Week: Police ban, Tapiro d’Oro, U21 Team of the Week, Sassuolo loss, racism, Quote of the Week
  • Match Reviews: talking recent performances

  • Stadium: The Cathedral vs. The Rings of Milano

  • Giampaolo: discussing his future at Milan

The only thing worse than losing the Derby is having to record a podcast after losing the Derby. But in hindsight, it helped to look at what is going on at the club and how the team are playing. It also helped to put things into perspective, looking at the big picture. Or maybe to make things less clear, I’m not sure. All I know is that Milan seem dazed and confused.

With our season starting out so poorly, we needed an expert to help us look at what is going on, so we asked the best: David. You can follow him on Twitter @DavidLSwan, the L is for Legend. This time around, we discussed:

  • Lightning Round: quick faves
  • News of the Week Month: Shirt sponsors, youth, stadium, congrats, record scoring, ban, racism, Quote of the Week
  • Match Reviews: talking recent performances
  • Giampaolo: madness
  • Milan’s Wage Bill: good news

Some people don’t have any idea why I hate Inter so much. It goes well beyond sport, it’s not just a cross-town rivalry for me. Most people don’t seem to know or remember the events of 2006 and the scandal known as Calciopoli. Fewer people know Inter’s role in this scandal, let alone how they benefited from it. So with the Derby on the horizon, this podcast is all about why I hate Inter.

Jonathan was the mastermind behind this special podcast, and he was patient enough to listen to my ranting. We talked about:

  • Calciopoli: who was involved, who was punished and why, the legal shortcomings, the people behind the scandal, the “Paper Scudetto,” why the injustices haven’t been corrected, and the impact on Serie A
  • Inter and Racism: the latest douchebaggery

After all of the excitement of summer and the optimism surrounding an apparently solid mercato, Milan fell flat on their face in their opening match of the season. There are plenty of questions about the mercato, the coach, the system, the players, and more. So we had plenty to discuss, even if the news wasn’t good.

Questioning everything this time around, Jonathan did our best to cover all things Milan, including:

  • News of the Week: New app, player presentation, Special Team Legends, Cutrone’s words
  • Match Reviews: talking the last two matches
  • Mercato: rumors, players in and players out
  • Coming up: upcoming friendlies

We’ve welcomed new players. We’ve seen the friendlies. And with the season set to kick off in less than two weeks, there are just a few loose ends to tie up. This is the time of the year to assess not only how far we’ve come, but to look ahead at where we are going. Time to talk about those summer dreams.

For some fresh perspective, Jonathan and I reached out to a new guest, Martino. You can follow Martino on Twitter @MartinoPuccio. You can also listen to his takes on the world of football on Soccer Showdown on both iTunes and Soundcloud. This time around, we discussed:

  • Lightning Round: quick faves
  • News of the Week: Important partnerships, the shaking San Siro, pricey kits, Polish icon, Dida is back
  • Match Reviews: talking friendlies and performances
  • Mercato: players in and out and dream signings

Watching all of the fun that Milan supporters had in the United States this past week with the club forced me to record this bonus podcast. We talked about all of the important topics for fans: spirit animals, shoelaces, stadium bids, socks, and of course, Cutrone. This episode was all about how it is to be a fan, learning from two of the best.

Of course, if you want some of the best fans in the world, you go to a Milan Club. And not just any club, but Milan Club Philly. I went straight to the top, with the always gracious President, David, and his clever First Lady, Angie. You can follow them on Twitter @MilanClubPhilly, on Facebook MilanClubPhilly, and Instagram MilanClubPhilly. You can also follow Angie on Instagram AngieFante. Together, we discussed:

With the start of a new season this time around, there is so much news to discuss. New directors, a new coach, and the mercato ready to open, yet the biggest news is that Milan gave up the Europa League to clear our FFP violations. Yet even more important than all of that is that Montolivo, the parasitical, inaccurate passing, tattle-tell, wall-ducking player who usurped the captaincy and got coaches fired is finally leaving the club. To prepare to celebrate the best thing that has happened at Milan in seven years, I give you Montolivo Out.

Only one person could fully represent on such an important podcast, so we asked Pete to join us. Follow him on Twitter @PDAcquaviva to see why he was our man. We talked about:

  • Lightning Round: the most important one to date
  • News of the Week: Get out Fassone, welcome Massara, Italy U21, more stadium woes

  • Finally FFP: CAS Consent Award, No Europa League, UEFA losers

Some truths are more desirable than others, too. But whether you prefer to know the truth or love to cling to the rumors, this podcast will have something for everyone. Because it’s that time of the year.

With a few big announcements and some things fans hope to be announced, Jonathan and I chatted about:

  • News of the Week: Serie A ups and downs, coaching changes, Piatek, Golden Boy nominations, Platini questioned
  • New Management: new appointments announced
  • New coach: Giampaolo announced
  • Mercato: do you believe?

After the heartbreak of finishing only one point shy of Champions League qualification hit like a punch to the stomach on the final matchday, Milan face even more big changes. With the resignation of our Sporting Director, Leonardo, and coach Gattuso rescinding his contract, and UEFA still delaying their FFP rulings yet again, it feels like just another poor Milan season. But we found plenty to talk about while rating the players and more to make this season not just another Year Zero.

An epic season review podcast requires the most passionate of fans, so we invited Federico to help us. You can follow him on Twitter @Fefinho83. He is also the founder of the Milan Club Buenos Aires. You can follow the club @MilanClubBAires. We discussed:

  • News of the Week: Primavera heartbreak, Inter as usual
  • Match Review: review of last Serie A match

Milan have left everything to the last matchday, and have given control of our European fate to rival clubs. Not that Milan fans needed any more anxiety in our lives, but it’s not particularly surprising, either. So while we are waiting for the final match, we talked about everything Milan, looking back and trying not to think too hard about the future, keeping our fingers crossed.

With so much on the line as the season comes to a close, it was time to bring in the big guns. So we chatted with David of Milan Club Philly. You can follow him and the club on Twitter @MilanClubPhilly, on Facebook @MilanClubPhilly, and on Instagram @milanclubphilly. We talked about:

  • Match Reviews: review of latest Serie A matches
  • FFP: unfair play (see “Inter vs. Milan: The FFP Derby”)

Milan can’t even celebrate a win anymore because we are unravelling so badly it doesn’t feel like a win. Of course we’ve still been mostly losing, but adding on a ridiculous amount of poor discipline on and off the pitch. With the same tired tactics leading to worse performances and results, it’s actually not that much of a surprise that Gattuso and the team just seem lost.

Despite recording after a win, this one was not that hopeful. Jonathan and I talked about:

  • News of the Week: Shaky San Siro, new kits, budget, Welcome back Brescia, amazing Alesi goal
  • Match Reviews: review of latest Coppa Italia and Serie A matches, discussion of related issues
  • Ritiro: discussing discipline problems
  • Another season without Champions League: discussing the season and our future, Gattuso, and more

Remember when Milan were in third place and could have gone four points clear? But they didn’t? That same sense of fear has left us clinging to fourth place by a mere point with five games to go. As if that weren’t hard enough for us fans, questioning players, coach, and more, there have been way too many off the pitch distractions, too. At a crucial point in our season, it leaves us clinging to fourth.

There was so much to discuss this time, and even a couple of rants. Jonathan and I talked about:

  • News of the Week: Tapiro d’Oro, Enzo Bearzot award, UEFA at it again, Paid Spectators
  • Match Reviews: review of latest Serie A match, discussion of related issues
  • Coming up: upcoming matches

The loss to Inter was soul crushing, then we had to sit through the International Break, only to have our hopes dashed in the first minute against Sampdoria. Despite previous optimism, with so many other teams fighting for top four, it is very clear that Milan’s Champions League berth is not as solid as it seemed only a few short weeks ago. Unless Gattuso makes some productive changes soon, Milan are in hot water.

Joining our guest list of Milan fans from all over the world this time was Sabrina. You can follow Sabrina on Twitter @SabriB10, and you should definitely check out her blog Calcio Crazy. Along with Jonathan, we chatted about:

  • Lightning Round: quick questions about favorites
  • News of the Week: International break, Inter suck, actual fines, Sheva’s heir, results, election, ICC tournament, young squad, revenue issues, Pepe Reina’s week
  • Match Reviews: review of latest Serie A match

With Milan in third place, everyone is going crazy for Milan. It may be a little premature, as recent performances show that the team’s mentality is still fragile. In the podcast that was recorded right after the Sassuolo match and nearly didn’t make it to air because of technical difficulties, we talked about changes at the club, Milan’s recent form, as well as our rise on the table. And, of course, why everyone is crazy for Milan.

Jonathan was literally on the injured list for this one, but luckily, Federico was still available for the starting lineup. Follow him on Twitter @fefinho83 and also give his Milan Club Buenos Aires a follow @MilanClubBAires. We chatted about:

By some miracle, Milan are still in fourth place. Morale is high, especially with the performances of a few individuals. Still, there is plenty to discuss and much to be improved within the team. And no one knows better what those things are than the most devout of Milan fans. Good Times.

The most devout of Milan fans includes podcast favorites Pete and David. You can follow Pete on Twitter @PDAcquaviva for his wisdom and follow David @DavidLSwan for his humor. Or is that reverse? The four of us wisely laughed about:

Milan are still in fourth place, even if they still struggle to take advantage of opposition teams dropping points and widen the gap. But confidence is growing, the a number of clean sheets is growing, and we finally have a competent management. Which is why we had the best January mercato ever. Not only is it our first January mercato in so very long, but we truly strengthened the squad to make us more competitive, and we also lowered our wage bill at the same time.

Because we recorded during the absolute worst Super Bowl game in history, our guests were all sitting in shock while Jonathan and I talked about all things Milan. Our discussion included:

No one is more harsh on a team or its players than the team’s own fans, and that is why we do midseason player ratings. Luckily, the players were rated for their entire season’s performances.

For some fresh perspective this midseason, we turned to a new guest, Walid. Follow him on Twitter @Silm_213 . We chatted about:

  • News of the Week: Fassone irony, captain fine, heartless move, more appealing, year in a number, transfer win, return of Strinic
  • Match Reviews: reviews of recent matches
  • Midseason Ratings: discussing and rating the players
  • Coming up: upcoming matches and moral issues

Thanks again to Walid for sharing his passion and opinions about Milan. Please give him a follow on Twitter for more wisdom @Silm_213

Milan are celebrating their 119th birthday having just crashed out of the Europa League and then being slapped with sanctions from UEFA. Not the birthday gifts we were hoping for, but at least not playing in the Europa League might help curb our injury crisis. It’s enough to give anyone the holiday blues.

With nothing to celebrate, we needed twice the star power, so we invited both David and Pete to be on the podcast this time. You can follow David @DavidLSwan on Twitter and Pete at @PDAcquaviva on Twitter. Together, we lamented and laughed about:

  • News of the Week: new player, small profit, new head of scouting, new CEO, nomination, godless January, Curva milestone, happy birthday
  • Match Reviews: reviews of recent matches
  • FFP Sanctions: discussing the new sanctions
  • Coming up: upcoming matches, lesson in timezones

Thanks again to both David and Pete for blessing us with their wit and wisdom. To further bless your lives, follow them on Twitter @DavidLSwan and @PDAcquaviva.

Gattuso just celebrated his first year as Milan’s head coach, so of course his track record has been under the microscope. But with recent results and performances improving, the microscope is looking pretty favorably at him. Much of the attention this week is turning towards Milan’s new CEO, Ivan Gazidis. Certainly, there is always plenty to talk about at Milan.

This conversation needed some genius, so we obviously invited Jovan to join us. We discussed all things Milan, especially:

  • News of the Week: indestructible defender, political statements, UEFA list, surgery news, scoring savant, 4th place!
  • Match Reviews: reviews of recent matches
  • Welcome Gazidis: a new CEO for Milan
  • Gattuso’s First Year: strengths and weaknesses
  • Coming up: upcoming matches

Thanks again to Jovan for sharing his genius with us. Beware of exceptional genius wandering at large around Montenegro.

From Injury emergency to crisis to a full blown injury apocalypse, our season has drastically changed for the worse. Especially for so many of our players, who are personally feeling the pain of this apocalypse. We are already seeing the short term impact of these injuries, but they will also have long term ramifications as well.

We needed a true Milan fan to discuss our suffering, so we turned to Francesco. You can find out more about Francesco by following him on Twitter @FrancescoPetra8. Amidst the pain, we talked about:

  • News of the Week: new clothes, strange ban, Golden Boy, new dad, new CEO, awards, waiting for sanctions
  • Match Reviews: reviews of recent matches
  • Injury Apocalypse: why so many injuries so soon?
  • Coming up: upcoming matches

Thanks again to Francesco for suffering with us yet again. Please follow him on Twitter @FrancescoPetra8 to suffer along with him.

Like a most improbable dream, Milan are in fourth place right now. Which is a huge shift from recent years and shows that while our football may not be pretty, in fact it may be really frustrating at times, it is more effective than it looks. And that Champions League objective might not be quite so far away as it has seemed all of these years without it.

With a win, a clean sheet, and fourth place all happening simultaneously, sometimes people get lost in the celebrations. That was clearly the case with our guest this week, so Jonathan and I took the reins once again. We discussed:

  • News of the Week: new partner, best in form player, coach Oddo, fortress, Conti comeback, Zlatan
  • Match Reviews: reviews of recent matches
  • Injury Crisis: why so many injuries so soon?
  • Coming up: upcoming matches

Any Milan fan that watched the Derby probably feels that all is lost. Coming off of an international break during which the financials were released from Yonghong Li’s Milan, it’s certainly not a fun time to talk about Milan. But with or without the aid of alcohol, those who bleed red and black must carry on. You’re welcome.

There was a man down after that Derby, so my cohost and I were forced to carry on alone this week. Despite our sorrows, immediately after the Derby, we talked about:

  • News of the Week: Trophee Kopa, more changes, new player agreement, ciao again Gandini, Festival dello Sport, another Milan derby, no passport for you, Montolivo’s addition, some bald guy
  • Match Review: review of the Derby
  • The Finances of the Chinese Era: mindboggling numbers
  • Coming up: upcoming matches

Milan have three wins in a row, and I couldn't be more frightened. Why? Because we cannot keep a clean sheet to save our lives. It’s like having an amazing dinner, but knowing you’re going to get mugged on the way home. Not being able to keep 90 minutes of mentality is already making our results shaky, but stand to pull the rug out from beneath us in the long run. And it’s not just one game, it’s happening over and over again.

An early game and podcast needed exceptional wisdom, so of course we asked Pete to join us. To find more of his wisdom, follow him on Twitter @PDAcquaviva. After the Chievo game, we chatted about:

  • News of the Week: Debt free, Ancelotti trolls, Golden Boy, whatever with loyalty, the comeback kid, Milan Foundation, Italy callups
  • Match Reviews: review of recent matches
  • Clean Sheet Crisis: why we concede
  • Coming up: upcoming matches

Thanks again to Pete for Cutrone. Follow him on Twitter @PDAcquaviva for more brilliant gifts and wisdom.

Milan·s performances and results recently are lacking, but things are improving off the pitch. The announcement that Ivan Gazidis is finally going to come to the club as CEO was contrasted by lackluster performances on the pitch. Gattuso·s lack of exper

The clouds have truly lifted at Milanello, and the source of that bright shining light is not the sun, but rather the legendary Paolo Maldini. His mere presence has changed the atmosphere at and around the club. Victory is that much sweeter when he is watching his beloved team play as a director, where he should have been since he retired. He’s helped everyone raise their levels already, even Gattuso. That is the power of Maldini.

Even our guests were on International Break this week. But in their absence, we discussed:

  • News of the Week: Europa League, NT duty, wage bills, players out, Conti’s return, the armband fiasco
  • Match Review: review of the Roma victory
  • Gattuso Tactics: not an oxymoron
  • Legends return: the Maldini effect
  • Coming up: upcoming matches

Please try to keep yourself together for the rest of the break… Milan will be returning before you know it!

One game into the season and the media has already called for Gattuso’s head. Amidst all of the ridiculous hyperbole of the media and the fans, we try to sort through what actually happened in the match and perhaps apply a more realistic view of what might happen this season, particularly with our grinta-filled coach.

Our guest this time was the amazing Debopam, who is one of the staff at goaldentimes.org. You can follow him on Twitter @rossoneri, and you should definitely check out the book “Tiro: A Football Odyssey from Amazon to Alps.” For this podcast, we talked about:

  • News of the Week: UEFA honor, football helping out, dysfunctional calcio
  • Match Review: review of recent match
  • Gattuso: Discussing the Mister
  • Coming up: upcoming matches

Thanks again to Debopam for his great conversation. Follow him on Twitter @rossoneri and check out goaldentimes.org. For a real football treat, pick up “Tiro: A Football Odyssey from Amazon to Alps.”

The long awaited Return of the King, Paolo Maldini, has finally occurred. I have a theory as to why, and it all started with one lucky fan. He won a chance to meet the team, but ended up meeting Gattuso instead. After that, Leonardo was hired on. Then Higuain and Caldara came to Milan. And finally, the return of Maldini. That is a whole lot of luck.

That lucky fan is Ricardo, who flew to Los Angeles from Texas just to watch the game. You can follow him on Twitter and Instagram @Ricky7990. Who knows, maybe some of his luck will rub off on you. In the meantime, he and I chatted about:

  • News of the Week: No B team, Montolivo get out, Strinic in, Calhanoglu’s woman problems, Fasssone’s lack of class, Ambrosini’s new challenge, VAR replays, U.S. TV rights
  • ICC U.S. Tour: second half recap
  • Friendlies: reviews of Tottenham and Barcelona matches
  • Milan in Los Angeles: Meeting Gattuso and watching Milan live
  • Mercato: News and rumors
  • The Return of the King: Maldini’s glorious return
  • Coming up: upcoming matches

Thanks again to Ricardo for sharing his great luck with all of us Milan fans and for his time on the podcast. Follow him on Twitter and Instagram @Ricky7990

In spite of all of the changes off the pitch, I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Milan up close and personal here in Los Angeles. From stalking them at the airport to meeting Gattuso to watching them play right before my very eyes, it brought me great joy at a time when there are so many unanswered questions at the club.

My favorite intern, Jonathan, also has plans to see the team up close and personal this season, but at the San Siro. We discussed:

  • News of the Week: future legendary coaches, shut up and work, finally Kalinic, don’t let the door hit you on the way out, ciao Capitano, no thank you Puma, train cup, U19 Euros
  • Friendlies: reviews of Novara & Manchester United matches
  • Serie A Calendar: 2018-19 calendar just released
  • UEFA Ruling: CAS overturned UEFA’s ruling
  • Ownership & Management Changes: out with the old, in with the new
  • Coming up: next friendlies

Thanks again to Jonathan for being a fantastic intern, a passionate Milan fan, and future San Siro pitch invader.
