Stephen shares key takeaways from a talk by Stephen Bartlett, an entrepreneur and podcast host. Bartlett emphasizes the importance of writing a personal mission statement to guide decision-making. He also challenges the notion that uncertainty is the root of anxiety, suggesting that adversity to loss is often the underlying issue. Bartlett discusses the concept of skill stacking, where individuals combine complementary skills to gain a competitive advantage. He encourages seeking help from others rather than trying to solve problems alone and emphasizes the importance of being successful rather than being right. Lastly, Bartlett suggests that being loved by some and hated by others can be a sign of success.

Welcome to "The Truth About Dyslexia" with your host, Stephen! 🎙️ In this eye-opening podcast, we dive deep into the sensory world of dyslexic individuals. 🌈 Ever wondered why they might find it hard to focus in a noisy room or why they're sensitive to light and temperature? 🤔 We've got you covered! We explore how dyslexics process a whirlwind of stimuli all at once, making it a challenge to filter out distractions. 🌀 Imagine trying to play a football match where everyone's shouting instructions at you, the sun's in your eyes, and you're also trying to remember your game strategy. ⚽ That's a day in the life of a dyslexic person. We also delve into how dyslexics link new information to what they already know, a bit like connecting the dots in a complex play on the pitch. 🤓⚽ But this mental gymnastics takes a lot of focus, so don't be surprised if they miss a pass—or a point in conversation—now and then.Lastly, we tackle the challenges dyslexics face in work environments, especially in open-plan offices. 🏢 Think of it as playing on a pitch with too many distractions—loud fans, uneven turf, and unpredictable weather. 🌦️ Noise-cancelling headphones can be a game-changer, but self-awareness is the real MVP. 🎧So tune in to understand, empathise, and learn how to better support the dyslexic individuals in your life. 🎧🌟

I don’t think this is a dyslexic only thing but we experience this a larger extent. This inner voice saying we are not good enough. I nearly let this voice stop me from sharing a truth I needed to say. This is an important one.
I did not realize Arnold Schwarzenegger had Dyslexia. It came as a bit of a shock. Not that he has it but he spoke about the challenges of being dyslexic and what that means.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a movie star, governor and more. I have had to use spell check on his name more than many I speak about haha.
Here is one of the articles about Arnie talking more about how he deals with his dyslexia in Mens Health
Not an easy one. Especially when you realise you are the one creating the overwhelm. Dyslexia feels like a rollercoaster and being overwhelmed is so common even if we don’t show it. Here is a link to Todo List Bingo I mention in the pod - https://courses.truthaboutdyslexia.com/to-do-list-bingo-special
Partners, wives, husbands, parents struggle with this and it is tiring. I have struggled with this myself so wants to share my learnings and thoughts.
So the podcast has just hit 800,000 downloads. Which to me is a little mad. I am humbled. In this podcast I wanted to reflect on the 4 biggest aha’s since starting the podcast. Enjoy!
A common challenge for many dyslexics is that stuff comes in 1 ear and out the other. We can be heard saying ‘I know’ more often that we should. In this podcast I share a visualisation tool I love.
In this podcast I share what’s going on for me. A conundrum of seeing through my own mask, my own pain and how to own it.
This video has over 42,000 views and a bunch of positive comments. So I wanted to share it on the podcast for the first time - the audio at least. Hope you enjoy.
I was reading through Reddit the other day and found this question. I wanted to answer it on the podcast. So here goes.
I’m sure I am not alone here - feeling un motivated. Like there is something wrong with me. I wanted to dig into this and explain a few ways I get out of a funk.

I wanted to share an experience of the David Dyslexia Life Concepts course. It was a massive game changer for me and my self identity. Give it a Google in your local city and you may find a practitioner close or if you are in New Zealand https://remarkableminds.org is great.
When I got this it changed my life … again. When I found out I was not just dyslexic but had ADHD as well it allows me to understand what was happening at a deeper level.
Here is the link to the ADHD video I recommend watching - Do you have ADHD: This video will help?
This was a challenge I had growing up. I was in a special English class. I kept getting told I was special and unique. But it was BS. When I learned that - it all changed.
I used to suck at saying no. That movie ‘yes man’ I felt was about me. It’s a common thread for those of us with dyslexia always saying yes. I find it comes from 3 main places so let’s dive in to this episode.
This is a classic but I keep getting reminder how much we all struggle with time and our perception of it. Enjoy!
Sometimes I just want to follow they beat and talk about what is happening in my dyslexic mind. In this episode we talk about the struggle with finding balance, getting out of your comfort zone and using constraints to achieve goals.
Neurodiversity is all about how our minds work differently - whether it is dysleixa, ADHD or one of the many others. In this epoisode i speak with Simone who has been on a quest to understand the mind and learn to reprogram it for success.
It's a real interesting interview that goes all over the place from addiction to self sabotage, from branding to owning a bar and everywhere inbetween.
I hope you enjoy it my dyslexic friends!
Find out more about what Simone is doing at Genius You here.
** I used a new recording platform for this podcast so you should be able to listen and if on Spotify watch the episode if you so choose. Any issues I will sort :)
I used to be the kid who always asked why. But I did not understand that was a dyslexic thing. The need to understand the reason was so important to my motivation.

As a dyslexic I like many of us can see a great quote or piece of advice and go 'hey that is great advice' then in the blink of an eye, not absorb it and move on.
I wanted to do this podcast to talk through 10 great pieces of advice I have in a list that I have not really give the time of day. I have listed these below so you can come back to once you have listened. In the podcast I give some stories and my dyslexic perspective on each.
Skills stack on top of each other and create asymmetrical returns to all of the skills before them
If you want to feel terrible— Remember, there's always someone doing better.
We need to be reminded more than we need to be taught.
Long after we die, the values we chose to exemplify to ourselves remain eternal.
Failure is to be expected, not avoided. Failure is feedback, not judgment.
If someone isn't going to speak over you at your funeral— Don't let them speak over you during your life.
If we can change how we speak, we will change how we live.
We seek the freedom to choose what we do rather than freedom from doing things altogether.
Most of what constrains us are invisible to us. This is why we have things called "limiting beliefs." Sometimes you need someone from the outside to point it out, and the humility to listen.
Just because something hurts you, doesn't make it evil.
Dyslexia is so much more than reading and writing. It's that we favour the right side of our mind. It can create very vivid experiences in our mind that when connected to emotions can cause a lot of challenges.
In this pod I share some visual stories that created some intense emotions I needed to push though. I also talk about 2 strategies to help you get through it.
Emotion Code practitioners are all around the world but this is who I use:

It is a struggle known to so many dyslexics that when we get into a fight, we lose ourselves and things just don't work out. I wanted to dig deep and offer a few thoughts.
I mention a really great method called the 'Wayne Cook Posture'
Donna Eden's work is really great. Can't recommend it enough.

Rabbit holes opens up, uncertainty and the idea of just staying still u til something external broke and forced the change. In this pod I explore my challenge and share 2 tools I am using to get over it.

How many times have you heard the someone say - You need to accept yourself?
But if you are like me non-physical phrases like ‘self acceptance’ are tough for us (dyslexics) to even identify with. It's not a word we all picture in the same way and to practice it in a consistent way - well it can be hard. In this podcast I wanted to talk through something I heard on a Brene Brown & Tim Ferris podcast recently that really sunk in.

I remember going on Tinder before I found Holly and it was like a video game (which I later found out relationships don't have to be). A close dyslexic friend of mine has just started back up on the app so I wanted to do a podcast about my experiences to help him on his way (you know who you are!)
Visit our epic sponsor Remarkable Minds - Neurodiversity Specialists - Great courses for adults with dyslexia.
Achieving goals can feel like a game at the carnival you just can’t win. You have successes but you feel like they are more luck than skill. I’m on a mission to build my fitness and I wanted to share a top I recommend.

Weddings involve a lot. I am on to my second and thought I would share how planning a wedding when you are aware of your dyslexia and/or neurodiversity makes a massive difference. Here are my lessons.
Many of us with dyslexia struggle with control, taking too much or taking none at all. The neurodiverse brain struggles with balance at the best of time but no more than with this. I dive into a few lessons I have learned over the years.
This little trick saved me today. As the overwhelm was building m. I wanted to share it with you.
When my dyslexic brain sees 100 things to do all at once, it can put me in fight, flight and hide mode. So this is what I do.
If you want to give To-Do List Bingo a go find it here.
The way my brain works it feels like I am always juggling. It’s hard to find the mythical thing called balance. It’s like why even try - in this podcast I use my dyslexic mind to talk through some new ways to look at it.
Do you find you take things to the heart? Usually the negative stuff more than the positives in this episode I wanted to share a tool that shifted how I think about it to help all those dyslexic listeners who struggle with it too.
In this episode, I go through my tailored 'LA to New York' visual planning tool on how to reach your goals. I have not talked about this for an age but it is perfect for visual dyslexic thinkers.
I needed to drag it out again recently so I wanted to share it!

In this episode, I wanted to share the stack of supplements I take. These have all made it well past the trial stage and I recommend them to people depending on the challenge. I have tried to keep them clear below.
I will be putting a post together on Dyslexia & Nutrition over the coming months. But here is a start to what I take and recommend.

My dyslexic, energy sapped lows can be tough! My brain goes into tired - I don’t really care mode and slows down. I was not sure if I wanted to share this but I got off my bean bag and recorded it as it is important to hear the highs and the lows of the neurodiverse mind.
I wanted to share how I have designed my life. Give you a sneak peek into what works for me and others that are neurodiverse. With the way my dyslexic & ADHD mind works this could open the door and give you some clear ideas on what to do next.
I mention in the podcast - Todo List Bingo - https://remarkableminds.org/neurodiversity-courses
As an adult I wanted to give CBD oil and THC oil a go to see if it can help with the challenges of Dyslexia. For the neurodiverse brain. I find my cortisol levels can be super high and lead to like an overthinking panic. Most of the time this can be solved by meditation or exercise but it can also escape me. So CBD and THC being legal now in New Zealand for medicinal use needed to be tried.
I wanted to share some thoughts on the emotional side of dyslexia. I feel lost of us are very visual emotional creatures so let’s talk about how it shows up at work.
Can long-term visualizing get a bit overwhelming? It can take time to trust yourself enough. In this episode, we dive into a shorter-term goal-setting practice that works for me.
I also talk through some ADHD & Dyslexia goals I need to accomplish.

Recent months I have had people ask e for my story. I like to redo it every year or so as it changes. Different facts get spoken about, key pieces embellished. If you have heard it. It is worth a listen if you are new - it is a must.
For a dyslexia podcast you talk a lot about ADHD and Autism. Well it’s because this pod is about people. Real people. People who don’t fit in 1 box, they cross over the lines.
Ever feel burnt out? Like you just want to lay on the couch? I do. I find myself making it worse. It becomes a spiral.
I saw Dan post on LinkedIn that he had just been diagnosed with ADHD and reached out. So many of our listeners have a mixture of Dyslexia, ADHD, and some Autism.
So it is great to hear how someone went from wondering if they had ADHD to discover they did. It was a great conversation into his journey so far.

An oldie but a goodie. Holly has come down with the 'vid' so this pod is coming out a little late. It is a recap of an old podcast I really liked. Now that I have done so many from time to time I will curate a good pod for your enjoyment.

Could Will Smiths Dyslexia played a part in the the famous Oscar slap? If it did how and why would it manifest like that? Dyslexia appears in a bunch of ways even for the famous.
I hear this from dyslexics and those with ADHD. People feel like they were born broken, wrong or even the D word. I don’t buy it, but I get why people do. In this episode I want to share my energy in this topic.
Does dyslexia stand in the way of you not being able to feel grateful?
Gratitude can be hard at the best of times for me at least. My mind is always off in the future or running around in some tangent or rabbit hole. I wanted to share a recent experience that came to mind that I think may help you.

Jody from Canada asks - My question is regarding dyslexia and imposter syndrome.
I recently found out (by pure chance) that there is a very high probability that I am dyslexic... although my wife thought it was obvious and thought always knew.
I don't have an official diagnosis because it costs several thousand dollars in Canada, but I've done what seems like 100 online tests and I nail them all. Top of the class.
Since discovering my dyslexia and understanding what it is/does, my life has taken a surprisingly damatic and fast turn for the better. Yet still, I find periods where, without a diagnosis, I doubt my dyslexia... like, no I'm not dyslexic because of x,y,z.
1) I was very good at school... when actually, I was good at certain subjects and benefited from absent teachers in English, geography, and languages.
2) the "elephant" question in dyslexia tests. I always answer no, because I don't have trouble writing that word. But when I get to spelling helicopter, or hippopotamus... forget about it. Sometimes when auto-fill does not know what I'm trying to say it feels like I'm alone in a large empty room, randomly typing in guess letters until auto-fill throws me a life line.
There's more, but despite all this I am constantly doubtful about my dyslexia. It's causing me to fear "coming out" as a dyslexic in fear of being outded as a hypochondriac. I also have a serious fear of actually finding out I'm not dyslexic and losing my super power. It's a lot of ups and downs.
I've looked it up and can't find anyone talking about doubting their dyslexia, so I guess my question is... is this a normal feeling? Does it go away?
We had a question from Joanie about parenting kids with dyslexia. I have a guest in mind I do need to reach out to for this but here are a few tips form my experience.
I wanted to share a pod I did like 2 - 3 years ago. I was bouncing with energy and this pod really touches on some stuff I don't talk about enough anymore.

My beliefs, my understanding and my self-driven tests with Addiction and how it lives with my Dyslexia (and/or) ADHD is always interesting to me. For years I saw them as separate.
But as I learned more I could see how connected they were - the way you mind works is so so so connected to how you deal with stimulation and addiction. In this podcast I dive in a bit deeper.

I spoke to 2 dyslexic's yesterday and the same challenge appeared. I see this as probably the most challenging aspect of dyslexia outside the standard reading, writing and spelling.

In this episode I am not going to talk about where to get one, what type to get and how it works. I am going to dig into the deeper question of should I just self diagnose dyslexia or should I get an actual test done. This question is asked by so many people and I wanted to weigh in.

Have you ever tried to study for long periods of time, getting distracted at every turn. Maybe it was something tedious at work that frustrated you to no end. Over my years I have learned that I can not learn that way. Not truly learn. Changing habits or truly learning something new comes From experiments that lead to experiences. In this episode I share some gold for dyslexics who find themselves self sabotaging change.

If you have a mind like mine - you will get this podcast.
One thing I keep being reminded of in my life is that we all have a bias. A bias of believing that the people we surround ourselves with make up the greater world.
The true fact is.... they don't. But if our minds tried to comprehend that fully they probably would explode.
I was reminded recently that not everyone is fully aware of the ADHD - Dyslexia combo and how linked they are. In this episode I look at preposing a new way to look at it.
Hope you love the episode and if you do remember to share it.

In todays episode i want to dive into that feeling we get when we step into a room. Maybe that energy is tough and challenging and other times it can be warm and welcoming.
It's a feeling that we can not always label. I dive into why I believe Dyslexic thinkers find it easier to tap into and how to start becoming more aware on it.
Please note I do a very very simple visual exercise using witches & magicians (we may as well have some fun right :)

Dyslexia is a label. It is a label that with it brings a set of common traits.
One of those traits is many of us have much much much more more powerful visual minds than the average person.
Some of us have nurtured our visual minds, others have ignored it and taken it for granted.
In this episode i wanted to share some thinking around how to see the visual mind and a new perspective shift I have had in the last little while. I hope you enjoy it. Would you like to share your experience on the podcast (its about half way down)

Do you use supplements to help with you Dyslexia (and/or ADHD)?
I think we have all tried a few over the years. I wanted to talk about what I do on a regular basis and 2 I am trying at the moment to see if it helps. Dyslexia does not have a lot of research in this way that I can find - It is more lived experiences - so here is mine. Here is the link I mention to what I am trying - https://amzn.to/3y9OXZb
Hey my tribe, my people that get the dyslexic way and are opening their eyes to how it effects them.
I wanted to do an Updatecast talking about my journey and experiences at the moment. I have been dealing with a bunch of uncertainty in my gut about a challenge (not able to see it) and it recently lifted. I wanted to talk through why and see if you feel a similar way. I have had this request a bit recently to interview other awesome Dyslexic's. So when one pops out of the shadows - I locked him down for a story telling session.
What I love about this story is the other side - on the outside you would think just a successful person with a few bumps along the way - but inside there was always something missing until the realisation around Dyslexia.
For anonymity we use the name Philip in the interview (I'm pretty sure he is not actually James Bond but you never know).
I wanted to put my Steve-ra-damus hat on today. To look at where Dyslexia is going in the next 20 years.

A question I never really had when I was younger was - Do I also have ADHD? It honestly never crossed my mind. For me personally I realised it was part of who I am when a friend asked to grab a coffee and find out more about the work I was doing in the Adult Dyslexia space. He mentioned he had just been diagnosed with ADHD and told me his story. He said one of the things that he learned was that if you find yourself tapping your foot in meetings or at boring times. It was a common sign of ADHD - It's like you are trying to speed up a super slow situation.
Of that whole conversation that stuck with me like it had been glued on. As I noticed myself doing it I dug deeper & went to get diagnosed. I actually started by watching a video on ADHD - see the link below for that.
Since then the ADHD & Dyslexia connection has only grown - I wanted to share my take on it. To share this podcast on Dyslexia and ADHD in Adults - I will embed it here - https://truthaboutdyslexia.com/dyslexia-and-adhd-in-adults
In this latest series we have talked about dyslexia, the traits and challenges that we deal with. But how does it show up in what we are seeing with dyslexic adults in relationships, at work and more. Keeping these episodes short - I have popped in some super common ones to help out.
Dyslexia in adults is a big topic find out more here
Do you sometimes feel hopeless at taking credit? Really accepting that you have done something super well? Is it more likely that you don't really sit with how awesome you are and just run to the next thing?
Maybe you have even learned to pretend that you are thankful.
If you are like many dyslexics we really struggle to take credit for what we do, to sit in the happiness zone. We feel like we winged it. Move past it on to the next thing at speed and try to not stop long enough to enjoy it. In this episode I show you - you are not along, why it happens and give you a few dyslexic friendly tips to help you out.
Ever feel like the perfectionist of the year - like every year? Are you like super hard on yourself when things don't work out?
Is the picture of perfection so clear in your mind - when you don't meet it you feel like a failure?
Now don't get me wrong perfectionism is not just a dyslexic trait that shows up (a lot!) in adults. But it does show up in specific was and with a specific reason.
Hope you enjoy the podcast - to find out more visit https://truthaboutdyslexia.com
A really common challenge with Dyslexia is the over thinking & over feeling side of life. It can be misunderstood and is rarely connected to the dyslexic mind.
But as you start to see the coronation it will open your eyes.
In this episode we look into dyslexia in adults. We talk about Reading, Writing & all that stuff (spelling, tracking and more).
We dig into trigger words and similar things - the words people truly struggle with and why.
I really wanted to touch on this topic but not get lost on reading & writing along as it is a smaller part of dyslexia than people think.
Dyslexia - What does it actually mean?
You may be thinking is he just going to talk about spelling, reading & writing? We already know that.
Many of you will be thinking... maybe he has a few things up his sleeve to let us in on. Well you would be right. In this episode we will talk about:
How all kids operate in a dyslexic way up until the age of 3 or 4
How the phrase 'A picture says 1000 words' can speak to the dyslexic mind with 1 key change
What key challenges come from Dyslexia that no one told you about
Why adults need to understand what happens at the root of dyslexia not just at the leaf level.
This podcast is to help Adults with Dyslexia come to terms with the way Dyslexics think. It is super powerful and I hope you love it. If you do give the podcast a like, share or review on your favourite podcasting channel and feel free to take our little 'Adult Dyslexia Quiz' Here.

Adult Dyslexia is one of the biggest hidden challenges I believe in the world today. Many people live with it undiagnosed, comparing themselves to others and asking - 'why don't i measure up?' Using tools to navigate life that were never mean't for them.
It's like at school Dyslexic's were gifted a 6-speed manual Ferrari for a brain - but were only ever taught to drive an automation corolla. It's tough.
This is the first episode in a new series as a starting point for Dyslexic's just starting to listen to the Truth About Dyslexia - It is my story. Through it you will get a taste of who I am - learn some lessons on what Dyslexia is and just maybe you will listen on to more.
This podcast is 1000% FREE and designed to offer real 'aha' moments that will change peoples lives. I hope you love it and want to spread the word.
The present moment, over thinking - trapped in my head. My head sometimes seems like a prison, me like a robot and like I am not in control. But occasionally i get glimpses of the present moment in reality. They are beautiful. If you struggle to be present - this is for you.
Fruaahhhhhh I shouted as a came back down the hill from my walk… my earphones glitching on every third step… this day was feeling like a runaway day already….
I feel I should have done this podcast ages ago. We went through a pandemic right. Took a common cold for me to see it from a new perspective (oh I love you dyslexic Brain).
I have been down with a cold or flu and wanted to share my experience and how dyslexia could help you get better. Please note I am not a doctor this is persona opinion.
I spent an hour at a 5 year olds school. I explain more in the podcast about the new ways of teaching, how to stay concious and whats coming up on the pod.
In a recent coaching session - i had a little Aha moment. A realisation about being present in my dyslexic mind. It is one of the reasons I value coaching & helping people is that with every session I grow.
I found it so valuable it deserved it's own podcast. In this pod - I touch on:
Being Grounded & Present in the Dyslexic Mind Do you have to be present only in reality? How can you bring this practice into challenging times Why I believe Multi-tasking is not as it seems
If you enjoy the pod make sure you share it and review it.
In todays episode I wanted to share a story of a little fight me and Holly got into over the weekend. I have tried to use an easy to listen to story format and weave in a few lessons & reminders for all us dyslexic's in relationships.
Enjoy.
Have you ever had a conversation start up in your head? Unannounced its like 2 people are role playing in your mind. Some times it's super noticeable and other times you miss it? This does not happen to just dyslexics, but it happens to all dyslexic's I have spoken too (in varying amounts).
How can you use this to your advantage to move forward and not just feel the negative effect of a mental fight. Let's dive into it.

I find myself in a bunch of dyslexic facebook groups - Just watching. I love seeing the questions, the deep thoughts but more often than not I see a bunch of very very early - surface level challenges.
Now I understand when you have just worked out you are dyslexic these kind of flashes of what are 'obvious' to me - seem like real 'aha' moments. I was probably like it when I realised what Dyslexia was. As I write this I think I should actually keep a list of the questions and put them on our blog at https://truthaboutdyslexia.com
but what I have learned and want to get across is - it's about digging deeper. Surface level fixes and solutions will only take you so far & will never be truly fulfilling. They are like the candy bar you buy at the checkout. It seems great for a moment and then ... nothing (if not feeling worse right).
Hey my awesome dyslexics. In this episode i wanted to touch on some stuff in my life I am dealing with, a few notes on the pod it's self and where the Truth About Dyslexia is looking to go over the years to come!
Dyslexics are wired differently. Would you agree?
One of the key strings that ties everything together is - Time. In this episode I want to chat about Dyslexia & Time - Where I see the challenges, an example of 'Just in time planning' and a tangent or two :)
Enjoy.
I had a moment of reflection today. An experience happened where I handled it in such a 360 degree way. It showed how I am applying learnings in my life into the real world.
This podcast is about the Dyslexic (right brained) trait of over reacting when someone interrupts either your hyper focus or your internal visual/emotional world. This once change has had a profound impact on my relationships, anxiety, health, (insert other buzz words) and so on. I hope you like it.
If you do I always appreciate a review (if you remember to do it) and a share 😃
I am seeing this more and more every day in our support group and others on Dyslexia. Is that dyslexia?
What it says to me is how little the public knows about it. I want to dive into this loaded question and pose another question to get your mind whirrring.
Ever had those days where your brain is like - no. Not today.
It has a mind of it's own right. It can be hard to see why this happens and you just feel broken... or I used to at least. I never would have seen it from a dyslexic perspective until I became more aware of how we work. It was like the penny dropped.
Hope you love this episode. If you like it feel free to give it a like, review or share on the platform you love.
As I passed the mechanic shop today - I caught a glimpse of my dyslexic mind firing on all cylinders. It was like I was out of my body watching what my mind was telling me. Maybe it was a belief I have - or maybe it is one all dyslexics have at some level?
In this episode I talk about - Hiding from the truth. I even surprised myself at the end with a realisation!

How do Dyslexics learn the best? Many of us at school, in work, in life are personal development junkies. It's like a drug to learn more. Not always to change the world or become rich (that would be nice thought). But because it makes our ability to problem solve stronger and we love that right.
In this episode I dive into the a key understanding about insight vs information that has come up from doing our dyslexia & confidence webinar - see the replay here - https://go.truthaboutdyslexia.com/webinar
It will make you go. hmm that is true. :)

How does it work with confidence?

Hey awesome dyslexic peeps (and their advocates). Today's podcast is a bit of an update cast with what I am looking at with the pod going forward, I talk about a guest I am interviewing soon, changes to schedules and a new min-podcast I will be releasing which is really exciting!
Is it only dyslexics that self sabotage? How do you see what is really going on? How often does it happen to you? 🤔 This is so common that you are not alone. Dig deeper into what really matters on self sabotage - I open up the lid and have a chat on some great self sabotage stories of my own.
This is a 'BIG' one.
Dyslexia is said to be all about reading, writing and spelling. But for those in the know.. we know it is more. We have an intuition about it.
In this episode I want to talk about the biggest challenge we have.

Sometimes in the past I feel like I have not really been able to match up the effect with the steps before it (cause). The more steps involved the harder it can be. It feels like I have not been able to clearly learn from some of my mistakes.
I wanted to talk through this as it has been running through my head in the last few days.
Shout out to those amazing people who support our work each month here https://www.patreon.com/adultdyslexia
So on the weekend I was getting my game on with the family. Connect 4, memory and some Jenga. Playing the game with Holly's daughter really got me seeing how firm we can be on something that is not right. It helped me get even clearer on how I see myself and how I operate with changing my own mind and beliefs.
Many dyslexics have super visual minds. It can be powerful but also can create stories that don't really help us in the real world. This is the first time I have recorded a visual & auditory technique you can use.
This one if focussed on reframing the idea of selling something (and touches on money too). It has been super powerful to me. I hope it adds a little value to your life.
This was a super hard episode to record - It was not the episode I set out to record this morning I can tell you that! I decided to hold myself to account on a challenge I had been rubbing up against recently and seeing a lot of friction. I wanted to share how I am starting to deal with it (a way to go).
This tool will help dyslexics who find themselves rubbing up against similar issues like - I am fat, I can't do that etc..
In this episode i want to dive into a couple of Anchors I use to change my state quickly. It's early days in testing this but I am sticking to it and really liking the outcome. Especially the sleep anchor for my over thinking dyslexic mind.
Ever have those days where you just feel like you failed. Like am I broken? Is this dyslexia or was I just a mistake? - Now that might sound harsh but we really do have those days. If you have then this technique has really helped me see the light. I hope it works for you my dyslexic friend.
Now... I'm not going to say Dyslexics are the only one with confidence issues. They are natural for all humans. But how we deal with them can be a little bit different.
I have said it before if Neurotypical people are a PC we are a Mac. Don't load the wrong program on to your machine right.
In this episode we dive into what actually is confidence?
Why is it hard to nail down?
How do you step into building it?

In this episode I get a chance to talk to Jimi Hunt - He is locked down in a hotel trying to get back into New Zealand from Mexico (sounds like the plot to a far fetched movie).
We talk about mental fitness vs mental health. How to look after your mental health (love his take!) and we touch on how he create $20 million dollars of PR for mental health.
Lots of great points that will help dyslexics and to be honest.. Anyone. Enjoy. Find out more about him here. https://www.jimihunt.com

In today’s episode I’m going to update you on my goals, adhd meds, we talk some NLP and more.
We speak a lot about awareness and acceptance. It is vital for all dyslexics to feel & realise they are not alone. It is a gift that allows you to start to move past (it is a process) some of the pain and struggle that you have lived with all your life.
But what is on the other side of that?
I have been thinking through this for a while, as I learn and filter what I am learning and it has brought me to the concept of:
The High Performance Dyslexic
Taking the awareness & acceptance, starting to release the shame & learn how to master your mind. In this episode we talk about 2 visual techniques which are gold. Something many Dyslexics say is that they are just feeling out of control, life is not quite as clear as they thought. In this episode we dive into 2 big factors.
I Don't know about you but as I get older I am less open to change. I don't mean the little insignificant things, but real shifts in my mindset and growth. It's like keeping your body in shape changes as you get older, so does how your mind works.
I wanted to talk through my thinking on this and how it works with our mind and I even make a discovery right at the end. Enjoy my Dyslexic Friends (and friends of friends).
Dyslexia & Procrastination. I'm not sure about you but it's like my brain uses the distraction to procrastinate on purpose. I personally think it comes down to 2 reasons why we procrastinate on some things, but then don't on others. Let's dive into this podcast on dyslexia and procrastination.
Also - In the podcast, I say my Instagram handle, but as I looked at it I realised I had misspelt it (😂 had to laugh) So in the name of moving towards what I want to do full time. I have updated it to https://www.instagram.com/StephenMartinCoach
What an episode.
One of the challenges we hear time and time again is around Dyslexia & Work - What does it take to create a dyslexic (or Neurodiverse) friendly environment?
I was blown away in this interview by what the Cookie Time in little old New Zealand.
We touch on everything thing from Mental Health & Emotional Safety in the workplace all the way through to the small shifts that made the biggest difference.
If you are looking to influence your work. Then this is what you need to hear.
Have you ever felt like you are wearing a mask? Being a Chameleon? Riding the thing grey line? I wanted to raise this as I think a lot of Dyslexic & neurodiverse thinkers will connect with it and need to hear a bit more about it. So let's dive in.
I see a heap of stuff about this for kids. But what happens when you step into adulthood. Dyslexia does not go away 'sadly'. But at the same time animal pictures can only take you so far.
In this episode we dig in and look at learning with Dyslexia - What works & what does not as an adult in your job and workplace.
Ever feel one day you are super confident and make decisions you own.... then the next day you can't decide what to have for dinner? It's a real conundrum and makes us feel like something is not right, that we are not really confident and are just faking it. This is a common Dyslexic challenge and I want to tell you a story to see i you can relate.
I have a routine in place, but It keeps changing, I'm getting bored by this routine, my creativity is getting stifled because I keep forgetting something. These are things I hear from dyslexics I talk to, and the one in my head.
In today's episode, I wanted to talk about the pendulum swing between routine & creative freedom. It is a one many dyslexic adults have to deal with.
I am so happy to have managed to get Guy & Suzanne on the pod. They are shining lights in the New Zealand Dyslexic community, well the neurodiversity community in general. They run the Dyslexia Foundation of NZ, are amazing entrepreneurs and have done so much for schools and kids all around New Zealand and the world.
The idea's around how you can support dyslexic children at school and through lockdown is amazing.
Hope you love the episode and to find out more about what we do visit - https://truthaboutdyslexia.com , Subscribe to the pod and I always appreciate a review!
Ever wondered if you were actually hungry? This is the best test for dopamine I have heard.
The stuff around you matters. A crude example is if you could not walk then your house would be designed to support your life. With Dyslexia and ADHD the same is true. You need to set your life up to succeed. In this episode Iook into this.
I wanted to update everyone one the goals I set at the beginning of the year. It has been a whirlwind but I am starting to see it all come together. Trusting in your intuition can be challenging when you have been told how wrong you are for so many years.
Unwinding that training is challenging!

If you have Dyslexia &/or ADHD you probably have said to yourself - Why do I keep self-sabotaging myself? Do I hate myself? What I traumatised as a child? Is this just what was meant to happen to me? As I dig deeper into my own mind and see it from new perspectives I see it this way.

Updatecast is my dyslexic way of letting you in on what's going through my head, what I am working on and how hearing it from this perspective - could help you. In this podcast I dive deep into my mind and some of the perspective shifts (penny drops) I am experiencing.
Do you feel you have a stubborn side? So others say it to you? You’re not alone. In this episode let’s look at why and the 3 questions I ask myself that reduces it!
.. not that kind of Dyslexic tripping... I wanted to share my experience today of getting to the airport. One thing I get a lot is it’s important to know others think like you. So do you think like this?
I wanted to follow up my podcast the other day on stimulants and how our mind needs them. The need is real, you are using them whether you are conscious of them or not. So how do you recognise them and start to adjust what you are doing with them. The image I refer to in the podcast can be found here - https://www.patreon.com/posts/47339924
Do people with Dyslexia have an issue with Balance? Could improving your balance actually help your dyslexia or ability to focus your abilities? I dive into this new topic (for even me) to share what I am learning and testing on my self.
As I keep my direction this year it is a year of facing my anxiety head-on - changing beliefs that have kept me trapped (read: stubborn dyslexic brain). I want to stand in the mirror at the end of the year and breath naturally and happily that I am relaxed! In this episode we talk about:
Dyslexia ADHD Meds Caffiene Stimmulants & more.....
How does a hard conversation and a popular Mexican dessert make it onto a podcast about Dyslexia. Well you are just going to have to listen to it aren't you lol :0
Today's episode is a real riff of an episode. You know when a couple of musicians get together and create amazing music just by flowing. I've been taking time to let my intuition shine a bit more these days and wanted to just see what comes out from talking about it. I really wonder if this could be the reason many of us overthink.. so much.
An update cast is an update on my journey. What's happening, what I am trying and learning and more. So enjoy my interesting dyslexic story.

Dyslexic moments & how I deal with them. This one happened to me today, through me for 6 and had me biting my lip. I want to share what happened and how I dealt with it. These things are things we wish we could stop but sadly they are things dyslexics just have to deal with.
She screamed at me and her mother, it was a phrase we had heard 24 times that day. I know can be one of the phrases that holds us back and we don’t even see us saying it.
I got this question out of a Dyslexia Support group and it is a good question. We live by stories and lived experiences but struggle with writing. Is it possible to get that idea's out of your head and contribute in this way?
Priorities have always been painful for my dyslexic mind. What is more important? Should I just consider my feelings or 25 other peoples and their pets? Is my relationship more important than my job? Is my health more important than my wealth? I need a nap... brain switching off... In this podcast let's look at this challenge.
As you become more aware of yourself and what dyslexia actually means you will see repeating patterns in your personality. They are sometimes subtle and sometimes the opposite. I want to pose the idea that maybe we take more responsibility than we need to. It is something I am exploring in my own life and I want to share some thoughts and solutions I am testing.
You know those days where your mind goes into anxiety, overthink mode - You can't stop it, feels like you are out of control of the ship. I tried meditating and all it did was fuel the beast, I tried watching TV but I could only tell it was only stabilising the beast for a short time.... here's what happened.
Ever feel like your brain just does not have the same system for beliefs, see what is actually true & what it really values? I think our brains do work differently and it appeared in a couple of places this week.
Every year I think. This year can't be as interesting, fun & crazy as the last can it? Every year I surprise myself. Already I am running into challenges, making discoveries and more. I go a bit off-topic in this one in a good way!.
One of the challenges I have is my mind running off like a Rabit with a crack addiction. It can be tiring especially when you are tired. So what is the little hack I use that's easy to remember when you need to focus and concentrate. Take control of your Dyslexic Attention.

Addiction and anxiety go hand in hand. They may not be the reason you start an addiction but can keep you trapped, feeling you can not escape. The way the dyslexic mind does no help either. I am going to go into what I am doing to help myself and hopefully you.
Australia has not caught on fire so that is a good start - I wanted to share how I am feeling walking in to 2021, how my head is racing off and some of the big obstacles i am tackling myself and will be sharing through the year.
A wrap up of the end of the year. How I am feeling after my break and what I feel is to come in 2021 for Truth About Dyslexia. Thanks to all my listeners. So much love.
What a gift to be taking some time off to wind down. It has me thinking about what 2021 will mean to me and what I am going to share on the journey in 2021 to add value to your life. Thanks for the people who have reviewed the podcast and shared it in 2020 you are beautiful people.
Woof - the dog barks as it snaps at the lead. Chasing a cat, peeing on a tree or wanting a laydown. I had a really impactful moment this morning as I created some space in my life and the took the dog I am looking after for a walk. I need to take my dyslexic dog for a walk more often.
One of my favourite interviews of the year - Must have been my Christmas Present. Speaking with Brent was amazing we talked about everything from finding out he was dyslexic, the misdiagnosis problem, relationships, trigger words, self-esteem, mental vs physical pain barriers, communication, depression the works. We could have gone on forever. Enjoy it and if you like it - remember to share this story. To check out a great video about Brent click this link - https://youtu.be/YAtDAxLd-Ps
Focus has been a struggle this last month - a million things grabbing my dyslexic attention. It's like everyone goes mad leading up to Christmas, rushing to get things done. So I have been going back to an old technique that has worked for me to get some clear thinking time & doing time into my life. I hope it helps you over the busy times!
2020 has been a crazy one - I wanted to talk about the next steps as we run into a new year, what I am going to be doing & our new 'Make 2021 Your Best Year Yet' Course. It's our first mini-course for Dyselxic's so If you want to have a great year next year - check it out here - https://courses.truthaboutdyslexia.com/bestyearyet
Do you accept yourself for having Dyslexia? Or do you find yourself doing it publically then beating yourself up on the inside? This is so common. I wanted to just talk through my thinking on this as it is one of the hardest things to do.
I wanted to share the presents I love to get & the ones I don't. See how many match with what you like and if we have the same patterns.
We will all have our pet challenges with Dyslexia. But this one is one that gets me to this day - it reaches into my soul and even if I look ok on the outside it is like someone lightly punches me in the gut every time.
Hard love is what we need. Do you ever think that when you are backed into a corner you can work out how to talk yourself out of it? Somehow your brain will pull together arguments and let you escape. It's like a defence mechanism. But when we get honest with ourselves there is no escape. Here is what you need a hard talk with yourself about.
Ever felt like you have fallen into a whole and it’s hard to get out. In this episode I get how I’m feeling off my chest and share a few tips (I’m reminding myself) on how to get out.
So one of my visualisations with Holly this year was to renovate her bathroom. I wanted to share the story as were deep in the process. What’s worked and what has no. Enjoy.
What actually is Dyslexia? I have always found it strange that Dyslexia is defined by its symptoms and not its cause. You don't say a broken arm is defined by not being able to do bicep curls do you - it's defined by the bone in the arm being broken. So why is Dyslexia defined like that? How can you reframe the definition to accept it and understand it better?
At my parents birthday party I was reminded of how my mind works. I have not felt this way in a long time so wanted to share. This is a really candid episode done after a few beers but in the spirit of being my true, authentic self. Here I am.
Many of us have toyed around with mind maps over the years. You may have really enjoyed them or just fiddled with them. In this episode, I talk to the premier expert in mind mapping for Dyslexics Darius Namdaran.
We dig into why 'standard' mind maps don't always work for dyslexics, how to reframe how you see them and what you can really use them to solve problems. To find out more about what Darius does click here - https://bulletmapacademy.com
Have you struggled to make a massive shift in your life? You think about it and go 'I really want that' but then the dyslexic overthinking kicks in, you get overwhelmed and you go back to doing what you have always done. This has happened to me repeatedly. I wanted to share a technique in a fun way that could help you get over the giant wall of fear that stands in your way.
Now one of my dyslexic listeners must have come up with a time machine right? We are out of the box thinkers and inventors. So I thought while I wait for my turn in the time machine I needed to come up with 3 things I could tell young Stephen (reminds me of young Sheldon) that would make a massive shift. It's a way of reflecting on the lessons that have made a massive change in my life.
In lockdown or going into one? At some point, you will. I chat with Gavin in Melbourne about how to deal with being locked inside like puppy and controlling that overthinking brain of ours.
Dyslexia stems from your brain's preference for using visual processing over symbolic processing. It has a raft of benefits but also challenges. Each side of the brain is used for different things. But how does our brain really understand and identify the definitions of words and what can that mean for life. Let's take a look.
Dyslexia, Exams & Study - Sounds like a nightmare to many of us. Our brains are not wired for standardised testing right - we are not robots. None of us will put Google out of a job for storing data right. We are more like an algorithm we can take 1000's of bits of information, use logic and come up with an answer.
But that said exams still exist and probably are not going away any time soon. In this episode I dig into 12 Coping Strategies to help Dyslexics cope with the world of tests :)
On my walk today I started listening to an audio book to improve my coaching. I am always looking at new ways to get through to people and I really liked this story about overthinking. When our thoughts come into reality and we get it wrong. Hope you like it.
I have really had a few challenges with focus recently - my plate is nice and full (which I used to hate) now I accept but it does not always make it easy. I wanted to share a key tool I am testing to reorder my focus.
One of the biggest challenges for me is keeping my dreams front of mind. In a busy world my focus gets taken by every passing car. I feel like a dog with my head out the window. How can simply tracking the smallest things in my life make such a big impact.
The world is a bit mad, its a little nuts. With our minds all running off what can we recognise in ourselves and lives to give us that moment of peace we need to be the best version of ourselves.
In todays episode I talk with Rich Sanchez based in the US of A. We talk about his time at Disney, his Dyslexic story and talk about employment and using our dyslexic skills in a job interview. Enjoy!
People say reading, writing and spelling is our biggest challenge. But let's be honest with a bit of technology we can solve that one. It's not easy but doable.
