In our second 'Party Time?' talk Jamie explains our need for new wine and new wineskins. As well as understanding a little chemistry, we also need to know the cultural and religious backdrop to this parable so we don’t oversimplify what Jesus says. We also need to avoid the trap of holding the parable at arm’s length when it is primarily about us. And although Jesus appears to have come to subvert the norms, he is actually fulfilling all of scripture and demonstrating what his coming kingdom tastes, looks and feels like. This experience is far more dynamic, exciting and powerful than we could imagine.

Why Series Week 3 H Metters continues exploring the question "Why Doesn't God Make Himself Clearer?" from our Sunday sermon series, looking at the effect our busyness has on hearing the voice of God.

Discussion Questions: 1. Look at the quote by Ronald Rolheiser: ‘Today, a number of historical circumstances are blindly flowing together and accidentally conspiring to produce a climate within which it is difficult not just to think about God or to pray, but simply to have any interior depth whatsoever… We for every kind of reason, good and bad, are distracting ourselves into spiritual oblivion. It is not that we have anything against God, depth, and spirit, we would like these, it is just that we are habitually too preoccupied to have any of these show up on our radar screens. We are more busy than bad, more distracted than non-spiritual, and more interested in the movie theatre, the sports stadium, and the shopping mall, and the fantasy life they produce in us than we are in church. Pathological busyness, distraction and restlessness are major blocks today within our spiritual lives.’ Does this strike a chord with you? 2. Look at Luke 10:38-42 What is the one thing that Mary has chosen? Does your life reflect this to be the one thing you have chosen above all else? 3. What are the main distractions/areas of busyness in your life that pose a threat to your relationship with Jesus?

Why Series Week 2 After Sunday's sermon, "Why Is God Good News In Overcoming Racism?", Jago recaps his response to this question, and suggests what this might mean for us. 1. Look at Luke 18:9-14. What have you learnt about racism and about yourself in the last weeks since George Floyd’s killing? 3. How might you be actively anti-racism – but from a place of dependent hope on God, rather than from a place of judgemental moral superiority? How does the Tax Collector help you think this through?

Intercession is when we are moved to respond to situations, incidents, problems, where we see God’s will is not being done, where there is suffering, discord, sickness, heartbreak, in prayer, and we ask for God’s will to break through in those situations. It is one of the greatest privileges we have as Christians to be invited by God to play a part in the shaping of history through prayer. It is also a powerful tool in uniting God’s church as we come together with one common purpose.

Here are some prayer points to help with this based on Jago’s points:

Pray for racial justice: • For an end to discrimination • For there for to be equality Pray for racial harmony: • For an end to hostility • For there to be reconciliation
