Hi Everyone
In episode 91 I have the wonderful Niki Seberini back on the show.
This time dive deeper into what each and everyone of us can do to manage stress, anxiety and optimise our health better. All through the one modality we have available to us at any time. That being our breath.
Breathwork is the missing key to optimal health. You don't have to go outside of yourself to find it, nor do you have to join a club or spend lots of money in order to access it. You just have to consciously shift it and the benefits are extraordinary.
According to Dr Darragh O'Carroll breathwork may:
boost mood
decrease high blood pressure
deepen relaxation
help with symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
improve alertness, focus, and memory
increase heart rate variability (a metric associated with longevity, fitness, and mental health)
promote creativity
promote quality sleep
soothe emotions associated with grief and trauma
reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
reduce symptoms of asthma
reduce symptoms of stress

In this short episode I am going to answer one of the questions that I get sent time and time again. That being, how can I manage IBS, it’s ruining my life.
Anyone who has ever suffered with long term abdominal pain will know how difficult it is to treat let alone cure IBS
and how many different approaches you have to try before finding some kind of relief, only for it to be temporary.
I do need to emphasise up front that if you are suffering from any health concern, your first port of call should always be your doctor. It is really important to rule out any serious medical conditions first.

Mention running to many people and they visibly cringe. When I started running I had no idea that in order to cover significant mileage comfortably you actually needed to keep your heart rate low from beginning to end, which is why it took me so many years to learn to enjoy running.
A couple of months ago I came across the Mindful Runners website I contacted Jurgen and began my journey of learning to slow down, become aware of my physiological responses to exercise and be mindful of building an acerbic foundation. With consistent practice and the right coaching, it is indeed possible to change a lifetime of un-resourceful training habits.
In this episode I chat with Jurgen Vogt - ultra endurance athlete with a degree in sport psychology, certified Life Coach, BreathWork coach and a UESCA certified Ultra-Running Coach.
Jurgen explains just how and why everyone can enjoy and have fun running if done the right way.

Im am absolutely fanatical about the quality of the foods that we choose to eat. In many ways this is one of the first rules of healthy eating and olive oil is no exception.
Unfortunately most people don’t understand why it is so important to be really fussy about the olive oil they choose to buy or even what to look for a good quality product. Brenda Wilkinson of Rio Largo chats to us about what you as the consumer need to look for when purchasing a great olive oil. Good quality virgin olive oil is high in protective polyphenols or antioxidants. It is known to be protective against heart disease, dyslipidemia and dementia. I cannot emphasise enough how important is it to shop around, ask questions and look for certification when you are spending money on olive oil.

In March 2020 I interviewed Niki Seberini about her commitment to run the Jerusalem Marathon, having literally hated running her entire life. Inevitably, the marathon was cancelled due to covid. But not one to back down from a challenge, Niki persevered and in true Mind Freedom Fighter style, reframed running as a mindfulness exercise.
It is for this reason whether we are conscious of it or not, that exercise is so useful as part of your stress management strategy. She also goes into the practice of observing your thoughts rather than getting sucked into the vortex of anxiety and stress.
Niki Seberini is a well known talk show host on Chai FM and mindfulness facilitator and you can find out about getting in tough with Niki on the show notes page. I hope you enjoy this chat as much as we did.

This episode of the Re~Invent Health Podcast is for anyone who is, or knows of someone battling with fertility.
Over the years as a nutritionist I have seen dozens of women go though absolute torment at the prospect of not getting pregnant. Sadly too often, some of the most basic biomarkers for a healthy pregnancy are completely disregarded in mainstream treatment. By addressing nutrition, managing stress and supplementing with bio identical progesterone, which are essential to conception and pregnancy seem to fall by the wayside.
In this episode I chat with Amanda Kouaiky who shares the most incredible story of how she and her husband battled to conceive and how they turned this experience into a business that helps couples along their fertility journey with some of the most innovative and simple tools. Please share this story with anyone who you know who may benefit from this information, And please don’t forget to rate and leave a comment.

Dr Ian Weinberg, neurosurgeon, author of Quantum Leap and Leading with Conscious Awareness. Ian is one of the pioneers of psycho-neuro- immunology, or how our thoughts create the chemistry that supports of destroys our immune system.
In this episode we discuss the data or lack thereof behind the virus that has turned the world on its head. The technology behind the vaccine and the convergence of multiple issues that we as a world population have been facing for several years. Most notably the abuse of power by the powers that be and the stakeholders guiding the media. It seems to be coming into sharp focus that what we should be fearing is not a virus, but our inability to think and ask logical questions. And how fear creates a state that renders us vulnerable to illness.

In recent years a class of natural and synthetic brain optimising compounds have come onto the market, under the term nootropic. What we call nootropics have in fact been around for thousands of years. Many populations have been using medicinal mushrooms in teas and foods for centuries, for specific outcomes. If you drink coffee or green tea you are using nootropics. The concept of brain enhancement supplementation is not widely spoken about. People are commonly given antidepressants and anti anxiety meds, sleeping pills and drugs for concentration with numerous side effects. But it is not often that we discuss what is needed to provide the brain, which is the most energy hungry organ in the body the tools it needs to function optimally. It is only in the past couple of years that mainstream availability of nutrients that enhance brain function have been openly discussed. Even though the supplements classed as nootropics have been consumed by humans for centuries. Perhaps it’s due to the renewed interest in safe performance enhancement and the general trend toward finding alternatives to pharmaceuticals has given rise to this trend. I today’s show I chat with Tristan van Moerkerken about optimising your brain , concentration and focus. He discusses why your foundation health which includes nutrition, exercise and sleep is the first step towards brain health as well as where to start if you are embarking on a brain and body optimisation program. If you would like to find out more about nootropics. You can find Tristan via his website, on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

Throughout human history, from Galileo to Einstein, those with vision and the ability to look beyond dogma have come under fire from their peers and those who stand to lose credibility in the wake of new discoveries. It takes a committed and brave individual to stand up and admit that conventional wisdom may in fact be flawed. In 2014, Professor Tim Noakes was reported to the Health Professional’s Council of South Africa for giving unconventional dietary advice on a social media platform. He was advocating a natural whole food diet… in a tweet. Most South Africans especially those with even a remote interest in health know of Professor Noakes. He is after all a household name in the world of sport and nutrition. I have often wondered had the hearing never taken place, would the HFLC protocol have gained infamy? Although the trial was a personal and professional blow at the time, it did serve to shine a spotlight into many areas in the health and academic arena that would otherwise have remained behind closed doors. The hearing quite literally transformed the way the public understand diet and nutrition and made an already famous scientist infamous and garnered him world wide support that he may never otherwise have been afforded. In this episode I chat with journalist Marika Sboros co-author with Professor Tim Noakes of Lore Of Nutrition, Challenging Conventional Dietary Beliefs published by Penguin in 2017. Marika started her career as a hard-news reporter on the Rand Daily Mail in the 1970s, criminal trials, politics and religion. She later became a features and investigative writer on women's issue and health. Marika worked for The Star newspaper and the Business Day, where she edited a weekly publication called Health News for eight years. She is also founder and editor of the Foodmed.net website. Marika gives a fascinating first person account of the hearing, including her opinions on academic bullying. For more gory details about the trial and the characters who payed a part in attempting to discredit one of the greatest minds of our time the book is available everywhere. Find it on online at Amazon and Takealot I am hoping that if you get anything from this discussion, it would be to always question. Be open to new discoveries and if the advice you have been given isn’t working, change your strategy. I hope you enjoy. General disclaimer - http://www.reinventhealth.co.za/disclaimer

In this episode I chat with long time client and friend Daria Higgins about the importance of life experience and what it takes to start over. Nowadays the importance of having multiple skill sets in diverse and even unrelated industries seems to be the ingredient that keeps you not only employable but resilient. In a world where so many people do not go into industries vaguely related to the degrees they spend years studying for. The ability to take a step back and find a new way to do life is essential to our long term health and happiness. This episode is particularly important for anyone who is sitting is a position where they have to get up and start again in an unpredictable world.
"Food has followed me all throughout my career and life events. Interspersed between all the projects I’ve worked on has been this irrepressible desire to explore the culture of food in which ever locale I’ve found myself in. Mostly through capturing images. I mostly started cooking as an adult, because I finally got a dishwasher (I’m messy) and never looked back. After two wonderful, challenging decades in creating live events, I realised that my back hurt. So, while working on my core, I decided that I wanted to step into this world through my photography, styling and writing. I use these mediums as a way to meet creatives, producers and creators and share their stories."
