[Philippians 1:9-11] Pray for people to love smart, love more, think clearly, live for Jesus. Our LOVE should overflow with the fruit of the Spirit.
S2E1: We're kicking off a new season of the podcast with a discussion about Antioch's new Education Hour and the place for Christian education within the body of Christ.
This is a gospel prayer. Paul prays for us to grow confident in three things so that we might bear good fruit. This is a great prayer for you to pray for yourself as well as for other believers!
[2 Tim 2:1-7] Grace & Commitment 1. Persevering & persisting in the grace of Christ (v1) 2. Persevering & persisting by spreading the Word (v2) 3. Persevering & persisting by developing 3 committed attitudes(vv3-7)
Perseverance and persistence in prayer should be a vital part of the believers’ life and relationship with God!
[I Thessalonians 3:9-13] We live in a mobile society. Like us, Paul moved around a lot and got to know believers all over the place. How did Paul pray for them?
I Thessalonians 3:9-13 reveals four themes in Paul’s prayer: 1. To thank God (3:9) 2. For an Opportunity to connect (3:10-11) 3. For their love to overflow. (3:12). 4. For strength to be blameless and holy. (3:13)
Think about someone who discipled you or whom you discipled. Pray this prayer for them today! Then send them a note to let them know you prayed for them.
[John 17:6-26] Jesus prayed so that his disciples could hear. He wanted them to know that he was asking the Father to help them: 1. Continue the Mission of Jesus John 17:6-11a 2. Protect us for the Mission of Jesus John 17:11b-19 3. Unify us for the Mission of Jesus John 17:20-26
[John 17:1-5]
JESUS prayed that Antioch would be: 1. Motivated by God’s Glory * Hebrews 1:3 * Psalm 19:1 * Romans 3:23 * Psalm 79:9 * 1 Corinthians 10:31 2. Centered on Christ * Colossians 1:15, 18-19 3. Saturated with the Gospel
We should pray all the time: * Luke 21:36; Ephesians 6:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Yet, we can learn from Jesus’ example by examining when Jesus took time to pray.
Jesus prayed BEFORE ministry, to disciple people. * + Luke 6:12-13 + Matthew 14:16-19 + Luke 9:18 + Luke 9:28-35 + John 11:41-44 + Mark 14:22-23
Jesus prayed DURNING ministry, to keep gospel focus. * Matthew 27:46 (Quoting Psalm 22) * Luke 23:33-34
Jesus prayed AFTER ministry, to recover. * Mark 1:32-35 * Matthew 14:22-23 * Luke 5:15-16
Imprecatory Psalms help us pray when we’re angry.
God is our Avenger (Psalm 94) * Turn, Complain/Ask, Trust * Deuteronomy 32:25 * Matthew 18:6
God cleanses open hearts (Psalm 139:19-24) * Genesis 4:4-8 * Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Lament makes us better people (Romans 12:19-21)
God cares for us when we are hurting and suffering.
Lament is the Biblical Prayer Language for Christians in pain.
There are more Psalms of Lament than any of type of Psalm.
Psalm 55 is a good example.
Lament follows this pattern: 1. TURN 2. COMPLAIN 3. ASK 4. TRUST

[Psalm 51] Psalm 51 is King David’s prayer of confession, repentance and restoration after he sinned by taking a woman a having her husband killed to cover it up.We see David declaring four things in this prayer:1. You still want me! (Psalm 51:1-2) 2. I’m a mess! (Psalm 51:3-6) 3. Father, make me clean. (Psalm 51:7-9) 4. Restore Me. (Psalm 51:10-19)
