We discovered that we both worked with Lake Norman, North Carolina Young Life. Tim was recruited as a volunteer Young Life leader out of Davidson College. We did not know that we both attended the 20th Anniversary banquet of Lake Norman Young Life. And Tim was also at the Memorial Service for J.D. Gibbs, Joe and Pat's son who was a close friend of ours. My wife Carole and I were the founding committee chairpersons for the first five years. Ironically, the volunteer high school students who served dinner that night were not even born yet when this area started. Wow!

What caused you to take that first step towards your dreams?
When my son was born with cerebral palsy, I took myself off the morning DJ show in Kansas City and went into advertising sales to pay my bills, which led me to a 40 year career in sales, making small business owners very happy. Plus owning several successful small businesses and franchises myself.
Can you name a few people that you could meet right now that would help you get closer to your dreams? How would they do it?
I'd like to be interviewed by PBS Podcaster Kelley Corrigan. She is a highly skilled host and really connects with her guests
And to interview my mentor John Maxwell who changed my life when I met him in Boston in 1988.

I have a pretty amazing life story of living all over the United States and traveling to Spain, Dubai, Kenya, Capetown, South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, and now living in Costa Rica to write my next book. I worked at ten radio stations in New York, Boston, Kansas City, Charlotte, and San Francisco.

Right out of college, I was employed in the Marketing Department at the corporate headquarters of Wendy’s International in Dublin, Ohio
From there, I worked in hospital administration for Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
After getting married and moving to California for my wife's job, I became the Customer Service Manager for an academic publishing company in Santa Barbara. After our daughter was born and we moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, I became a police officer with the Cincinnati Police Department, where I was a SWAT Hostage Negotiator.
"But my greatest challenge began in early 2012 when I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Acral Lentiginous Melanoma, which presented on the bottom of my foot. By the time the melanoma was detected, it had metastasized to a lymph node in my groin. Because my cancer is so rare (only about 6,500 people are diagnosed with this form of malignancy in the U.S. each year), I was treated at the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center."I had two surgeries to remove the tumors, and after I healed, I was put on a weekly injection of the drug, Interferon, to help keep the disease from coming back."I took those weekly injections for four years and seven months before the Interferon became so toxic to my body that I ended up in the Intensive Care Unit with a fever of 108 degrees. Fortunately, expert medical care saved my life."The Interferon gave me severe flu-like symptoms for two to three days after each injection. I lost fifty pounds during my therapy, was constantly nauseous, fatigued, and chilled, my ability to taste food significantly diminished, and my body constantly ached. This misery went on for over 1,660 days!There were times I felt so poorly and was in so much agony that I prayed to die. Each day was a struggle to use my mind to override my body's apathy and distressI realize pain and discomfort can beat you to your knees and keep you there if you let it. But I also came to appreciate that I could use my hurting and anguish to make me stronger and more resolute.I was no better at dealing with pain and discomfort than the next person. But every day, I found a way to survive, with the knowledge that I would need to do it again the following morning.”

After graduating from Full Sail University in 2019 with a BS in Audio Production Joe began working as a producer and engineer in Atlanta. Some of the talents he has worked with are Maroon 5, Hit-Boy, Stacy Barthe,The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra,Mark Battles and many others.
He was also the Executive Producer of a #1 Canadian album,"Anything" by Dave Mac in 2019.
In the beginning of 2021 Joe began doing more international work, specifically in Brazil. He is currently in the middle of shooting a pilot episode of a music TV series that will be released in 2023 on a major streaming platform. His company is in talks with Netflix and others.
Joe Lewis grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan and starting playing drums when he was two years old. He has a strong belief in the power of education but steered away from the limitations of traditional college and university educational systems. Like many creative people he made the choice to drop out of collage and pursue a different path.
His mother is a high school principal and his father is also a principal of a middle school. His parents are also pastors at the church he grew up in.
After completing a rigorous education online at Full Sail University he began his career in Atlanta as a sound engineer, recording several prominent musical entertainers.
His faith in God kept him from loosing his spiritual balance when his financial struggles where overwhelming, and his car was repossessed. Nevertheless, he pressed on with his dream of building his own company.
Two years ago he was invited to bring a film crow to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and fell in love with the city and the friendly people who were very kind and generous.

Rodney is a husband, father, cyclist, blogger and podcaster from Perth Western Australia.
"I work full time for Compassion Australia, releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name."
He has crossed Australia 6 times by bike as well as cycling in Canada and making two trips to cycle in India.
In this episode Rodney shares stories of those travels as well as the reasons behind the journeys. He plans to cycle across Australia again in September 2022 with up to 30 other bicyclists, a documentary video crew, and a support team of 12. It will take a month to cross from the Indian Ocean in Perth to New South Wales on the Pacific Ocean.

Ride for Compassion sees cyclists and support crew take to the road to help raise money for vulnerable children living in poverty.
What is Coast to Coast? The ride will be a one-month, 4,000km journey from Perth to Newcastle in September/October where cyclists ride from the beautiful beaches of Western Australia, across the rugged Nullarbor, to the bustling east coast city of Newcastle.
Each cyclist undertakes extensive training before the event, pays for their on-road costs, and raises funds for the work of Compassion.

"I had quite an experience back during the 2008 global recession, seeing Compassion at work first hand. Our group had to be evacuated from Haiti during food riots. That's what convinced me to speak out on behalf of those living in poverty." Two years before the devastating Haiti earthquake he witnessed parents feeding their children a mixture of water, oil and dirt, creating mud pies so they wouldn't feel hungry. The price of food went up so high that poor families had no money to buy food. The government was not helpful and riots broke out in the streets of Port-au-Prince creating an extremely treacherously dangerous run to the airport. The city was on fire.
He and his team barely escaped with their lives.

Epilogue From my blog "Old Guys Do It Better"
It had been 39 years since these old buddies got together. When they last worked as a team they had achieved fame and fortune beyond their wildest dreams. Even though their "corporation" only lasted four years.
No, it wasn't about some super geeks in the Silicon Valley creating a new PC. Bill Gates was 13. Michael Dell was 3 years old. South African Elon Musk hadn't been born yet. The internet wouldn't arrive on the scene until much later.
You might say they were the cream of the crop of young talented executives plying their skills in the marketplace of the incredible 60's. Now these old men who were literally in their personal 60's decided to have a little reunion in May of 2005.
Their names? Jack Bruce who was recovering from a liver transplant, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton. Their business? Music. Their company name? Cream. Their goal? The reunion concert. Four incredible nights at Royal Albert Hall in London. A huge success. Sold out in less than a week.
During one performance, Eric Clapton exclaimed amidst the massive applause, "Thanks for waiting all these years. We're going to do I think every song we know. We didn't go for very long. The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune cut us off in our prime."
At that point Jack Bruce burst in, "This is our prime, what do you mean?"
I have met some people who have turned 40 and think they are "over the hill." Or on the slippery sliding slope sending them into gray hair and old age. I've seen relatives who walk in slow, calculated steps, bent over, full of stress, wrinkled and weary looking as if they were 90 and they're barely 50.
Is it guitars and drums that keep people young or what? Not necessarily. My mother turned 81 that year. She still drove her little green Honda, played cards with her friends and very active in her church.
Well then, is it clean living? No, George Burns was performing right up to age 100. George said, "I don't believe in dying. It's been done. I'm working on a new exit. Besides, I can't die now - I'm booked." and "Don't stay in bed, unless you can make money in bed."
Here's a couple more Burns-isms. "I look to the future because that's where I'm going to spend the rest of my life," and "Retirement at sixty-five is ridiculous. "I'd rather be a failure at something I love than a success at something I hate.
Despite of your age, you have a choice to make. Are you going to make this year the best year ever in your life regardless of what happens to you or how "old" you are? Are you looking forward to the future or stuck in the past? Are you passionate about your mission in life? Or do you need a career change? Is your sense of humor diminishing or increasing? Are you aging like the Dead Sea or gracefully like a bottle of fine wine? What's got to change in you?It's all about choices. What's yours? Make it great.

I have spent over 20 years as a program manager delivering large scale initiatives with application and infrastructure projects for fortune 500 corporations. I hold a bachelor’s degree business administration from Detroit College of Business and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Davenport University.
In addition, I have spent over 20 years as a personal finance coach to help those that lacked personal finance education so that they can take control of their daily lives while planning their retirement goals. (67% of people do not have a budget and 75% of people live paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford to retire) This led me to become a published author on personal finance with my book, "I’m Not Flipping Burgers When I’m 70!"
In 2012, I met my wife Cindy who at the time was abused and bankrupt. Both of us had full custody of our children and together we blended our families, developed a financial plan and rebuilt our lives to lead a successful life. We now have been happily married for eight years.
During this time, we created a non-profit website, PersonalFinanceSquad.com in 2016 to educate others on the same principals carried out in my book which is centered around budgeting, debt management, retirement and home ownership. The site has detailed chapters from the book along with instructional videos and worksheets to provide a complete budget for the present and planning for the future.
During our time together, Cindy with no college degree, was a client associate at Merrill Lynch and eventually became a COO of a nationally recognized high-net wealth management firm.
With our success together I decided to launch the Something On My Mind podcast in 2020 to tell our story and give back to those that lack personal finance education. The show centers on practical money management in the present while saving for future retirement.The goal is to deliver information as I am right there with the listener while delivering the content with a side of humor.

Rick is a successful consulting executive who loves living and managing his life by purpose, goals and effective stress management principles. He lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his MBA from the Ivey Business School in London, Ontario, Canada. Rick and his wife Cheryl have six children and 15 grandchildren.

In 1987, after getting one of the lowest grades on his first MBA exam, Rick developed his purpose statement. The Purpose statement read in part:
"I will strive for and share the benefits of Continuous Improvement in my life, my families, and those in my circle of influence."
That Purpose statement helped him to become the youngest hire into a 30 person Continuous Improvement consulting company. Over 32 years, Rick helped grow that company into a well recognized 230 person Continuous improvement company.
He retired in 2017, as the COO of the Americas and the second largest shareholder.
Living by his Purpose statement, Rick has achieved success in all areas of his life. Rick has run 14 marathons including qualifying and running in the 2003 Boston Marathon.

Hi my name is Dave Henning and several months ago I started buying a little bit of silver due to the uncertain times we are all living in.
But I really didn’t know what I was doing. I knew a lot about stocks and bonds and 401k’s and IRA’s. Not a lot about silver and gold. Until I came across a very unique membership opportunity.

Coach Cam landed his first industry job in Houston, his hometown with The Houston Texans in the marketing department. From there, he hit the ground running, taking the skills and knowledge he gained with him to the athletic construction industry, working in sales and marketing.
Answering his entrepreneurial calling, he soon launched 5 Star Academy where he began his speaking career, writing curriculums, and consulting.
His success lead him to his first coaching post. Developing a diverse skillset Coach Cam entered into the NPO space initially as a contract trainer, but eventually as a lead trainer. In addition to speaking across the country in this role, he developed a Corp of trainers, managed events and programming and oversaw grant execution for the Houston Chapter of the Positive Coaching Alliance.
Again missing the sideline, he was called to KIPP Houston High School where he served as head coach and athletic director. Finding instant success, Coach Cam propelled 8 of the 10 varsity sports into post season tournaments and left as the school’s all time winningest coach.
Having checked off a major milestone, Coach Cam launched the company Coach Cam and sought to become a highly touted public speaker. Coach Cam began racking up appearances with dozens of NBA, NFL, and MLB clubs. In addition to Final Four and Super Bowl appearances. Soon after USA Football called and offer him a role as a Master Trainer. The Houston Texans reentered the picture and made Coach Cam their Play Safe Coach.
Retracing his time in athletic construction Coach Cam applied the disruption model and launched Texas Athletic Construction. Using the revenue generated from commercial and residential projects to fund his philanthropic endeavors which include the Coach Cam Cares: scholarship program, turkey drive, and Christmas wishes.
In 2019 Coach Cam published his first book, Alpha:REDEFINED 12 Servant Leadership Principles of Legendary Leaders. 2020 finds Cam at the helm of Texas Athletic Construction and Coach Cam.
As far as current projects, mid year Coach Cam released the E-Course Win the 1st Quarter of Your Day: Playbook for Wealth, Health, and Success. I am a 49-year-old blind gentleman who grew up in a family of carnival owners. All I ever wanted to do was to continue in my father’s and grandfather’s footsteps and be part of the family business.
As you can tell by reading this, that isn’t where I ended up. I did help in the business over the years, but couldn’t sustain it after the early death of my father (who had lung cancer). I then turned to helping people sell their amusement equipment. I do that on my other site,
The Midway Marketplace.
I started blogging to promote that site and met a lot of wonderful people in the blogosphere. They told me that I had an amazing story and many commented on how I inspired them. They finally convinced me that I had a bigger purpose in store for myself.
So, I started this second blog, and in it I share more of my personal journey, struggles, and triumphs. I also got noticed by a lot of people and have appeared as a guest, an interview subject, and a motivator on many different sites. My Interviews and Articles page lists these places.
I do my best to help others, and do so mostly by encouraging them to take steps towards their ultimate goal, or to continue on the path they have started.
I am now offering coaching to help people who are stuck and frustrated with not being able to find their passion or follow their dreams once they have determined what they want in their lives.
I am also available to speak to groups. I believe that by sharing the story of my personal growth and transformation, it will motivate and inspire anyone who hears it.
In addition to starting a new business, I have also lost over 250 pounds through a combination of gastric surgery, diet, exercise, positive attitude, meditation, and prayer.

Ever since high school back in Rochester, New York I had always dreamed of being a disc jockey. Late at night, lying in bed, I could pick up WLS Chicago on my little transistor radio. Once a Midwest farm news station, they created history as a pioneer rock and roll station of the '60's with legendary radio DJ's. The Beatles and the British Invasion had landed on the airwaves in Chicago and every other American city.
It was a Tuesday, not long after four in the afternoon on August 16th, 1977. My General Manager, Tom burst into the on-air studio at KCNW Kansas City and handed me a slip of paper he had just ripped off the Associated Press wire service. "Here's, stop what you are doing and read this." So I faded out of the record I was playing and flipped on my microphone, "Breaking news, this just in. Elvis Presley was found dead today at his Graceland home in Memphis. He was 42 years old." From those humble beginnings my radio career spanned three decades and ten stations from the East the the West Coast. I'm forever appreciative of the encouragement that my G.M. Tom Schulte poured into my life that would change everything.

On Monday, August 29, 2011 Dale Beatty, John Gallina and three other veterans appeared on the cover of Time Magazine with the headline, "The New Greatest Generation, How Young War Veterans Are Redefining Leadership At Home." That same evening I attended a local event to honor John and Dale along with the Mayor, a United States Congresswoman, The Chamber of Commerce President, area veterans and several friends. Seven years earlier, these two friends from high school almost lost their lives with the North Carolina National Guard in Iraq, when their Humvee was blown 200 feet in the air by an antitank mine. John suffered a severe brain injury and Dale lost both legs. To me this is a story of triumph after tragedy, when after returning home they determined to create Purple Heart Homes, blessing disabled veterans from all wars who desperately needed handicapped accessible homes. In the process, the hope and encouragement they exude has now spread nationwide. Sadly, Dale Beatty unexpectedly passed away suddenly at the age of 39 due to complications from his war injuries.

How Young Life Capernaum Ministry to Disabled Spans Three Decades, Over 210 Communities and Over 48 Countries.
It was at Woodleaf Camp in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, California that I met Nick Palermo from San Jose. There he told me the story about how he was led to start a special ministry within Young Life called Capernaum that reaches out to physically challenged youth. Nick handed me one of his books, "Missing Stars, Fallen Sparrows" and while on a plane trip I devoured the entire book. Having provided for my son Jeffrey years earlier who had cerebral palsy, it was an immediate connection for me with Nick. Since retiring from Young Life, Nick is at it again! He's on a new mission, founding EmmausInnMinistries.org for disabled adults

Joe Kissack is a friend of mine. We met at a place called The Barn in Indian Land, South Carolina. Joe was the guest speaker at a men's fellowship in probably the best "man cave" I've ever visited. That night Joe shared how his book, "The Fourth Fisherman" came to be written. He graciously allowed me to interview him in the Charlotte studios at The Connecticut School of Broadcasting, where I was an instructor. As a successful Hollywood Executive, one of his claims to fame is being responsible for putting the TV series Seinfeld into syndication for Sony Pictures. However Joe would would be the first to say that he would rather be known for listening to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit who sent him on an incredible adventure into Mexico to find three fishermen who were lost at sea for almost a year with nothing but a Bible and their faith.
