“Your public speaking anxiety might not be about public speaking.”

For 7+ years Mike flew the world giving presentations on how to give presentations. So meta.

He trained close to 10,000 people from some of the most revered companies in the world. He presented at conferences, at tech companies, at startups, at the federal government.

He's presented to a thousand people. He's presented to five.

He's presented when his laptop froze, when his slides didn’t work, when there was a fire alarm mid-speech.

He's presented on two-hours sleep, He's presented jetlagged, He's presented when there was no coffee to be found.

Mike has worked with such brands as Starbucks, Nike, Twitter, State Farm, Google and more.

122 The Naked Warrior: Unleashed Navy Seal Principles with “Iron” Ed Hiner

On today’s show I talk with Retired Navy Seal Lt. Commander and along around tough guy, Iron Ed Hiner!

Welcome back to the show! Today we’ll learn from Iron Ed about breaking out of a victim mindset, naked soldiering and we’ll learn a brand new acronym called VUCA!

Here’s a little more info on Ed.

Ed Hiner was born and raised in Virginia's Blue Ridge mountains. He grew up with a thirst for competition, and developed an indomitable will to win that would serve him well in his life's work as a warrior and a leader.

Ed graduated Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training in 1993 with class 189. He later attended Officer Candidate School, where he earned his commission as a distinguished honor graduate and class president. He had an acclaimed 20-year career as a Navy SEAL, during which he made nine major deployments on five continents. Twice awarded the Bronze Star with “V” for valor and combat leadership, Ed commanded hundreds of direct combat missions and low visibility operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Southeast Asia and Central America. In addition to his combat tours, he led BUD/S instructors, managed the training program for the West coast SEAL Teams, and was in charge of all SEAL basic and advanced training.

Ed now offers up this vast experience base as a coach and consultant specializing in leadership, team building, mental toughness, resiliency and personal conflict resolution. He utilizes the principles from his book "First Fast Fearless, How to Lead Like a Navy SEAL," to help individuals and corporations build and lead effective teams. He believes leaders are only able to unleash the full potential of their team when they first understand and work through their own fears. First, Fast, Fearless!!!

95: How Doing The Things Most Uncomfortable Leads to Success with author, Scott Amyx

Scott Amyx is the Chair & Managing Partner at Amyx Ventures and Singularity University/ Smart City Accelerator Mentor and Startup Board Member.

Drawing on his own powerful story of an impoverished immigrant frequently told that he would mount to nothing, Amyx, now a celebrated venture capitalist and futurist, describes his meteoric rise from obscurity to prominence, which led to the hypothesis that what really drives success is not intellect, opportunities or even network but pursuing personal change that’s uncomfortable. In this book, Scott takes readers into his defining life moments and stories from some of the most unlikely individuals who persevered through change to become outrageously successful. He also mines fascinating insights from history and shows what can be gleaned from modern experiments in high performance. Finally, he shares what he’s learned from interviewing dozens of high achievers—from corporate CEOs, unicorn startup entrepreneurs to global policy leaders. Strive shows how you can shape your life and your career, a life of fulfillment and joy, constantly creative and productive, one that always holds the possibility of delightful surprise.

Scott’s feature book Strive is available for order. Find out how doing the things most uncomfortable leads to success. Pioneering thought leader Scott Amyx shows anyone striving to succeed, regardless of who or where we are, what we do or have done for a living, or how young or old we are, that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but doing the things uncomfortable he calls “strive”.

Lindsay Lucas is the founder of Lean On Me Consultants based in Houston, Texas and helps event venue owners and creative entrepreneurs looking to launch venues build a successful and sustainable business in a crowded market. Over the past year, she has brought her clients over $1M in revenue.

About a year ago when wedding venues started becoming the next "it" business venture, Lindsay noticed that almost all of the venue owners had one of two backgrounds - they either inherited land and were trying to make a business of it, or the buzzing sound of our industry caught the attention of investors in the corporate world. The one thing they all had in common was that they were lost, treading water and praying a Google search would return the magic answer.

Today Lindsay and I address the topic of  “Serving Before You Sell” and how to gain trust with future clients with the right approach.

For more information on Lindsay and her business check out her website at leanonmeconsultants.com or email her hello@leanonmeconsultants.com.

The year was 1991 and a song called “Rico Suave” made it’s way to Number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. I sit down today with THE Rico Suave AKA Gerardo Mejia!

Pastor Gerardo Mejia, a native of Ecuador, moved to Southern California with his family at 12 years old. He would soon become an overnight success in the film and music industry. Gerardo appeared in numerous television and film roles, most notably for his leads in “Can’t Buy Me Love” with Patrick Dempsey and "Colors" with Sean Penn. He would soon become known all over the world for his song “Rico Suave” from the top selling album, “Mo Ritmo”. After Gerardo’s success as an artist, he continued to work behind the scenes as an A&R Executive for nearly a decade. He was responsible for procuring and closing the signing of Enrique Iglesias and was the A&R for his first two English albums.

Gerardo was also the first artist ever signed to Interscope Records before the days of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.

I had the opportunity to sit down with Pastor Gerardo and get a tour of his church, studio and home. We discuss his early days growing up, being featured on the show Dance Fever, Santa Barbara, and the new HBO documentary “The Defiant Ones”. We also talk popping and locking, the story behind the Rico Suave song and music video and his decision to go into ministry.

For more information on Gerardo check out his church’s website at: https://www.houseofgraceusa.com

On the show today I sit down with Life Coach and Cyclist, Robert Weaver of Robert Weaver Research LLC. At the time of this interview Robert was 300 miles away from conquering the 4,228 mile trail! The good news is Robert completed his goal with flying colors. As a bonus for our listeners Robert is providing a free coaching session valued at $500. Make sure to take advantage of this offer and let him know you heard him on Entreneato! You can contact Robert by phone at 1-402-202-0989 or by email at Robertweaver@outlook.com.

Here's a little more on the TransAmerica Trail:

The TransAmerica Bicycle Trail began in 1973, during our co-founder’s ride from Alaska to Argentina, as nothing more than an ambitious idea for a way to celebrate the nation’s upcoming 200th birthday. By June of 1976, the Trail was ready; the maps and guidebooks were published thanks to an enormous effort. Now cyclists were needed to ride it across the country. Given the name “Bikecentennial,” organizers publicized the event and thanks to strong word-of-mouth and its fortunate, prodigious publicity, 4,000 cyclists showed up for the ride.
