Kyle's nugget about not being shy, and putting yourself out there was a highlight of today's episode as it is a consistent reminder we all need, whether we are a Sole Proprietor or running a Multi-Million Dollar Corporation.
Controlling the outcome is like herding cats, or having expectations of people in general. It's simply useless and will rarely (if ever) work. What DOES work is having structure and consistency. Kyle breaks down a lot of this for us today.

Hey friend of the internet, today I want to make you aware of what to expect when hiring a social media professional.
There's a LOT OF NOISE out there today in this landscape of social media marketers, and a lot of fluff. Not everyone is who they say they are. That's why I'm making this video, so you know what to ask for, and what sorts of expectations you can have.
There are many MANY layers to quality social media marketing and management and I encourage you to be aware and do your research/homework.
There ARE a lot of great agencies out there, just be aware of the ones making outrageous promises of something that maybe isn't even that important (like 10's or 1000's of followers).
I'm just hoping to shed some light into this dark corner is all. I wish for you GREAT success in finding your perfect solution provider!!

And so it was, Social Media Marketing World 2019 is now a thing of the past; I'm sure planning efforts of SMMW 2020 are well underway.
I'd like to share with you my three main takeaways from all of the live broadcasts, podcasts, and blog posts I read surrounding this annual "mecca-like" event for social media marketing professionals.
Video. Period, end of sentence. It's a must-do activity in your social media marketing strategies.
Authenticity. This may make your video marketing efforts a little easier because, quite frankly, gone are the days of backdrops, expensive lighting and sound equipment. A lot of today's video marketing consists of very real, raw footage where business owners and brands are just being PEOPLE. Let that sink in for a minute. People, just being themselves, is what converts in today's social media marketing.
Lastly, stop being everywhere if that doesn't serve you. I go into this in more detail in the podcast, but if Twitter isn't your thing, and your ideal client or target marketing isn't on Twitter, then don't Tweet! This is a massive shift for me, but it truly does make sense! And at the end of the day, that's what matters; making sense of social media!

I touched on confidence in last week's podcast, referencing that if you're not confident enough in your abilities or in your business choices then that very well may be a reason why you're not eager to learn how to use social media marketing to the best of your ability and towards your ultimate success!
This week I go a little bit deeper, and get somewhat personal with you, on my OWN confidence journey. A lot of what you see and hear has been LEARNED. I am not a naturally confident person, but recognize that if I want to achieve my goals, I need to figure out a way to be confident, so I've learned.
I reference Teri Holland on Instagram where she says (something like) imperfectly done is better than perfectly not done.
Confidence is one of your main success ingredients. If you HAVE the confidence, you can achieve anything. If it's training or a strategy you need, please visit www.lorriklassen.com or www.klassenmarketing.co for more details on how I can help.

I'm going to approach a bit of a touchy subject this week, but an important one. Do you have confidence in yourself and your abilities as a business person? Sometimes, often to be truthful, I wonder if that's not a behind the scenes reason why people are still so fearful of using social media to market their businesses.
I feel like, and have learned from personal experience, that if you are confident in yourself and your abilities you'll do whatever it takes to "push the buttons".
I first approached this topic with Teri Holland over on her podcast, The Empowered Life (you can listen to her podcast here). That was the first time I had spoken of it publicly mind you, I'd been wrapping my head around the concept for quite some time already.
Confidence can be a challenge, again, YEARS of experience with this. I have not always been the most confident person in the room, not by a long stretch, and I still have challenges to this day. BUT, even with understanding what lack of confidence feels like, I still did whatever it took to learn.
That's where I feel people are using not using social media to market their business as an excuse. There are plenty of other reasons as well; they don't have time, they simply don't WANT to, they have no interest ... but, for those that do see it as a necessity (as I personally feel they should) and are still, years in, asking the most elementary of questions; then I'd challenge you to check your confidence in yourself and the business you're running. Perhaps there's something there.....lean into that.
I hope I have not offended anyone or put you off, because it is never but my utmost intention to help you succeed with your marketing efforts using social media as your tool of choice.
Are you in my Facebook group yet? I drop knowledge bombs weekly on social media marketing tips in there, give it a try! We'd love to have you! http://facebook.com/groups/successfulsmmarketing/.

I had my marketing mind blown today based on one of Jay Baer's podcast episodes of Social Pros. The guest speaker Jay had on, Mark Schaefer, [Executive Director of Schaefer Marketing Solutions LLC and author of Marketing Rebellion] has done a lot of research for his latest book and shared his findings.
They are twofold:
any business that is using social media and ISN'T being as human as possible (e.g. limits on the AI, VR, etc. etc.) won't WIN right now
customers are the ones running our marketing; NOT our marketing
These two concepts truly shook me. If we, brands and business (or those we run) are not making every effort to care for our online community (and offline for that matter) then we'll be lost. Marketing occurs THROUGH them now; more so than ever before in the history of social media marketing!
Be human, speak in non-marketing methods, as it's those brands that humanize themselves that will win in today's social space.
I encourage you to have a listen to Social Pros episode "Can Social Media Succeed without a Big Dose of Humanity" as it's very eloquently expressed and explained.
“Your brand and branding was something that you told people. Today, a brand is what people tell each other.” — @markwschaefer.

Fresh off the 2019 Oscars, I'm reminded once again the power of story! The same is true for marketing using social media as your delivery. Storytelling becomes story-selling!
Why did you start? What keeps you in "the game"? Why do you love what you do so much? Who is your "north star" when it comes to you industry or niche?
These are just SOME ideas of what you can talk about when you begin telling your story using social media. If you're nervous or unsure for any reason, simply practice. Go ahead and push buttons, you CAN'T break anything!
