Branding is a very important part of doing business, but it is yet to be taken seriously by the world’s MBA programs. When we're building change within organizations, we need to look at what success is to the people within the organization individually. How are you going to succeed as an organization, as a person, or as a leader based on the reality that's put in front of you? In one way or another, we all have been impacted by the current COVID-19 pandemic. Helping you minimize its negative effects, Dr. Elia Gourgouris and Kon Apostolopoulos co-wrote a very timely book, 7 Keys to Navigating a Crisis: A Practical Guide to Emotionally Dealing with Pandemics & Other Disasters. In this episode, they sit down with Ben Baker to lead us into some of the wisdom they shared in it and how they were able to create such great and important work in just 45 days. At the heart of it is the importance of partnership, where they both were able to work with mutual respect and trust. They talk about their writing process and the pressures they had to deal with along the way. Sharing some more insights, Dr. Elia and Kon give some tips to navigate the crisis we’re dealing with now and even in the future.
So much has changed in the world of marketing, especially during the digital age, but some basic principles remain the same. Perhaps one principle that isn’t going away any sooner is that marketing is all about caring. As Theodore Roosevelt once said, “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” More than a century after he said them, these powerful words remain relevant. Andrew Deutsch should know. Having been in the marketing game before fax machines were a thing, Andrew knows that effectively communicating and building rapport with potential clients starts with being relevant and providing value to them. All the marketing technology in the world will never get you the same results if you forget this. The keyword is care, and it can be applied even in an era of virtual interactions, as Alonzo Zaibert has so eloquently shown in a previous episode. Join in as Andrew discusses this topic and more with his long-time friend and your host, Ben Baker.
Often, great businesses start from a-ha moments that end up benefiting many. Having worked in the restaurant industry for years, Cory Warfield saw the need for a scheduling app that could help shift workers. Now, he is the Chief Visionary Officer of ShedWool, which has helped revolutionize the way businesses connect their employees to each other and their work schedules. In this episode, he joins host Ben Baker to share with us his story of making that move to create an app and a business. He talks about his company’s culture and the importance of having people with a leadership mentality. What is more, Cory takes us into Coryconnects, where he helps elevate people and have more targeted customers and connections.
Amazon Business is quickly emerging as the top category on enterprise-level B2B eCommerce. In this episode, Brian Beck, Managing Partner at Enceiba, joins Ben as they discuss how Brian and his team help companies succeed on Amazon with a significant focus on the B2B eCommerce. Brian and Ben dive into the importance of having the right strategy, building that strategy, and executing it as they talk about the work Enceiba does with its clients. Understand the need for traditional B2B companies to innovate as Brian talks about the shift brought by the rapid development in technology. Tune in and learn how you can get in front of the opportunity and the changing distribution model.
The new environment that we're thrust into has forced us to make adjustments and rethink the way we handle our business. Not only that, but it has also opened up so many things to look forward to in the future, some we didn't know possible had it not been for the pandemic. Moving forward, Ben Baker and his co-pilots in this Game Changers series—Chris Luecke, Ray Ziganto, Allison DeFord, Mark Mitchell, and Mark Roberts—are now landing with this fourth and final part. Appropriately so, they take you into a discussion about leading your team in the new normal, sharing their collective experiences, strategies, tools, and tactics to take your business' growth to the next level in 2020 and beyond. Join the crew for the last time as they answer what leadership is before and the onset of COVID-19, what a team needs to be successful, and what leaders need to embody and do to succeed in the new normal.
A big question that looms over businesses is how to grow their sales dramatically in the middle of a rapidly changing market. In this third round of Ben Baker’s Game Changers series, he and his stellar guests, Ray Ziganto, Allison DeFord, Mark Mitchell, Mark Roberts and Chris Luecke trade their insights on how companies can identify the risks and reduce them to make sales easier. Listen to this conversation and benefit from the sheer wealth of sales wisdom that these amazing resource persons have to offer. Some of the most valuable things you can learn from their insights are the importance of hiring the right people with the right skills in the right roles, gaining a greater understanding of customer feedback and preferences by leveraging the salesperson’s advantageous position, doing a value proposition audit to adapt to a changing market, making data-driven decisions and adopting a closed-loop feedback mechanism both internally and externally. This conversation takes a deep dive into best practices that a lot of companies – even industry giants – are not adopting just yet.
We are all thrust into this new environment due to the pandemic. More than ever, almost all of us are experiencing disruption, and the only way to not only survive but also thrive is by strategically pivoting your business. That begins with your marketing. Continuing the Game Changers series, Ben Baker and his crew of game-changers—Ray Ziganto, Allison DeFord, Mark Mitchell, Mark Roberts, and Chris Luecke—discuss leveraging data to stop selling naked. At a time like this, we just can't do sales anymore empty-handed. We need to use the information that is ever so present for us to move our customers and clients. Together, they share their expert insights about selling in this virtual environment, asking customers what they want, setting up a CRM, and more. Follow along to another episode with the game changers to add some tools on your tool belt in this challenging environment. So put on some clothes and let's go!
Haven't you ever wondered what unique companies are making the United States that we don't even think about? In this episode, Ben Baker interviews Darrin Mitchell to talk about their company, and the value add of content marketing. He starts off by narrating how Trout River Industries began and how it became what it is today. He goes on to stress the importance of trust in digital marketing and its effects on business. This series was produced in August 2020 with the goal of talking about where we are today in terms of sales and marketing, where we are going, and how we are going to get there. Together, they break down the misconceptions surrounding marketing and discuss how to bring your customers into the conversation and speak their language. People will forget what you say, but they will never forget how you made them feel. Follow along this great discussion to find out how you can achieve that in your marketing.
Marketing has gone a long way since the days of actual door-knocking and mailing ads. The future of marketing is digital, and it is the challenge of every marketer to cut through all the noise and become relevant to prospective clients. Steve Tso, an expert B2B marketer and the Founder of Cyber Business Review, believes that the future of marketing is, in many ways, going back to the basics. He considers all the sophisticated marketing tools we now have are secondary. At the end of the day, effective marketing is all about pipeline and sales. Listen in as he joins Ben Baker on the episode to talk about customer experience, relevant marketing, and the future of marketing in the context of the COVID-19 crisis.
As consumers, some products have certain emotional relevance to us. A soda brand, for example, might evoke memories of our childhood. It is this emotional connection that keeps us hooked to certain brands. Alon Zaibert, a relationship-driven sales and customer success executive, is an expert at keeping customer loyalty by building emotional relevance. He joins Ben Baker on the episode to explain how you can hook your customers early in the process. Alon most recently worked for Travel Leaders Group as the Vice President of Sales for its corporate travel division. He now teaches people the power of emotional relevance through mentoring, motivational speaking, and corporate training.
Competition is part of business, both large and small. If you don't prepare enough to overcome the multitude of competitors out there, then the industry will be tough on you. Host, Ben Baker, brings someone who is providing so much help to the retail world, helping retailers compete today and prepare for what the competition is going to look like in the near future. He sits down with George Minakakis, a global retail executive and the CEO of Inception Retail Group. In this episode, George shares with us some great ways businesses can stay in the game even as the world gets tested by the current COVID-19 pandemic. He also talks about why some retailers fail and how you can keep yourself from being one of them. Looking onwards, George then gives his insights on the future of retail and the opportunities that lie there, including the move to eCommerce. Explore the history of retail and more in this great conversation.
No matter how sophisticated your processes are, you will still run into problems with your business if you don’t pay more attention to the people side of things. The Drop In CEO herself, Deborah Coviello, graces today’s episode with Ben Baker to talk more about this. Deborah is the Founder of Illumination Partners and the host of the Drop In CEO podcast. For more than twenty years, she has been transforming businesses from within, elevating the talents of their organizations to new performance levels. Her experience has taught her to put tremendous value on people, whom she considers as the heart of every business. Learn how to become a more effective leader in your pack by listening to this interview.
Helping people is one thing. Committing your life to inspire others to help more people succeed is another. Nancy J. Spotton is someone who is living what her heart is singing for—helping people succeed by building champion teams that build future leaders who will change the world. In this episode, Ben Baker sits down with Nancy to talk about how she started on her inspiring journey and how she goes about instilling people the belief that they too can be a leader. She goes deeper into what makes a good leadership training program, what makes a good leader, and what makes a team better. Putting that into the business context, Nancy then shares what companies and CEOs need to do to enable the cultural changes that allow leaders to become true leaders and not just managers of process.
Grabbing opportunities, preparation, personification, and time management are leadership essentials. With these aspects, leaders can thrive and businesses can grow bigger and better. Today, Ben Baker chats with Dr. Billy R. Williams, the Founder and President of Inspire a Nation Business Mentoring Services and the CEO of the Williams Family Investment Group. Dr. Williams introduces us to the reality of business and highlights five reasons why a business should be a business. He also talks about how companies should be focused in this pandemic to move forward in this new normal. Learn how you can grow your business from a leader’s perspective in this timely episode.
True leaders make a difference in the people they lead. Ben Baker is joined today by Dave Robens, a personal development specialist who coaches people around the world and helps develop leaders within businesses. With a background in occupational therapy and the experience of working in geriatric care, Dave has such a profound insight on personal development, which he uses in this episode to define his concept of leadership. Seeing the need for every person inside an organization to be a leader, he emphasizes the leadership skills that really matter in an organization’s drive to succeed.
For one reason or another, people tend to view their financial situation from the point of view of scarcity, always with the thought that they don’t have enough for this thing or that. The abundance mindset is the direct opposite of this mentality. It sees money as a friend and focuses on acquiring it rather than being fearful of scarcity. Today’s guest, Olga Kirshenbaum, founder of Rags to Riches Consulting, asserts that when you think in terms of abundance when it comes to money, abundance will trickle to everything else in your life. Olga joins Ben Baker in this episode to talk about working with creative business owners, financial management, making money decisions, money coaching, and the abundance mindset.

What are people saying about your company?
When it comes to your employees, what are they saying?
Is it good?
I welcome Ben Baker to The Career Challenges Podcast. Ben’s seen a lot of change when it comes to how companies treat their employees, and how companies can do a better job of keeping them. We get to talk about how each time your company lets someone go, that’s potentially $100,000 of lost revenue.
This figure varies based on industry and type of work. Yet, it still shows how each person you hire to work for you has value and what they contribute to the bottom line.
Ben and I talk about how employers can take a different approach to leadership. It’s not an easy one, but it’s well worth the effort.
Ben is also an author and we discuss his motivations for writing his book.
Sidenote here; we recorded this before the Coronavirus Pandemic hit, and since then, I’ve seen Ben give selflessly of his time and experience. I want to encourage all listeners to check out Ben’s free resources and connect with him.
At the very least, you’ll be getting sound knowledge for how to handle a difficult situation.

During the last few weeks of the COVID-19 crisis I have seen incredible empathy and understanding and people that are tone deaf to the wants and needs of others.
We need to take care of each other if we want to get through this crisis and beyond. We need to be more human, listen to, understand and value each other. We need to realize that people are doing their best and it is okay not to be perfect.
I wish everyone here to be safe and healthy and if I can support you, please reach out at ben@yourbrandmarketing.com

We need to take care of each other if we want to get through this crisis and beyond. We need to be more human, listen to, understand and value each other. We need to realize that people are doing their best and it is okay not to be perfect.

Hello again;
This week on The What’s Your Excuse? Show
I’m happy to bring you an interview with Ben Baker from Your Brand Marketing.
We had a great conversation. Mainly because we are both such big proponents of the value and power of story telling.
In his case he is teaching business owners and managers how to recruit, attract, train, retain, and promote a talented effective staff by making everyone understand what the company’s story is all about.
I asked him if this was like when successful sports teams talk about how the players have bought into the philosophy of their coaches.
And he said that was a good place to start from.
Another reason why I loved this talk is because we met through my good friend The Happiness Ambassador Maura Sweeney.
So the fact that this conversation took place is a testimony to the value of building friendships and long-term relationships both online and in person.
And in a nod to my belief about gratitude we did mention Maura and how this interview came about.
I think this show will be a great help to anyone concerned about building a team whether it be for a business, a nonprofit, a government agency, a club, or a sports team.
And by the time we are through I know you will be asking yourself if Ben can do it then what’s my excuse.

Tyler Hatch and I discuss how cybercrime can kill your brand. The discussion was based upon a article that I wrote for BC Business Magazine in July 2019
https://www.bcbusiness.ca/Cybercrime-The-ultimate-brand-killer
Hosted by Tyler Hatch, B.A., LL.B., CCFE CMFE, the founder and CEO of DFI Forensics inc. ( dfiforensics.ca ), a Canadian digital forensics and incident response firm.
Brent Williams joins me on the mic for the August 14th show.
This is a classic case study of building a business the right way. See a problem, research it to understand it and the scope of it. Define the customer base, figure out how to solve the problem and then communicate and execute.
The insurance claims process can change and www.Benekiva.com is doing just that. They are making it customer focused and reducing stress and workload from those processing claims at the same time.
The power of a developing your brand with Ben Baker Ben Baker - author, keynote speaker, and consultant - helps develop stories for clients in compelling ways. Every brand (personal or company) needs a unique story that should engage their audience, draw them in, and help them understand the value of the brand. Ben’s job is to help us find that story and tell it in ways that are compelling, authentic, and memorable. In this show, we cover the essential characteristics of a great marketer and how we, as a brand, can use our story to stand out. Here's what we cover.
Here's what we discuss in this week's show:
When people ask Ben what he does, how does he like to reply? Are comparisons and our easy access into the world of other people putting pressure on today's worker? “Who I am as a person, and who you are as a person, should not be determined by the things in our lives.” For many, do things define their brand? What does the future look like for personal branding? "Why fit in if you were born to stand out," Dr Suess. Is it getting harder to swim against the current and stand out? Growing up, Ben was expected to sit at the table and converse with the friends of his parents. Why does he believe this is valuable? Why do we continuously get disappointed by companies and salespeople who don’t truly listen? What does history tell us about what is likely to happen in the future? What are the key characteristics of a great marketer? How does Ben record his learnings from books, podcasts, blogs, video? Why does Ben choose articles to read more than books? What is Ben still trying to discover about his brand? What is Ben most nervous about today? Was there a moment in time when Ben trusted his voice? When targeting your perfect customer, it’s about focussing on champions. Ben describes a champion. When did Ben last say no? Ben was in a Mastermind, how does that work, what’s the format? How can our mistakes build trust? The Mojo Radio Show - © Gary Bertwistle & Darren Robertson Products or companies we discuss are not paid endorsements. They are not sponsored by, nor do we have any professional or affiliate relationship of any kind with any of the companies or products highlighted in the show.... sadly! It’s just stuff we like, think is cool and maybe of interest to you our listeners.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!” ― Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967
Damien Brown brought a part of the insurance industry that I had very little exposure to, to light today. That being Captive Collectives. The ability for groups of companies, that are low risk and pay more in premiums than they benefit through claims to band together and create a collective to negotiate insurance based on the needs of the collectives. This usually creates lower premiums and safer workplaces.

Show Notes:
Ben has lived all over the U.S. but has settled in Vancouver, Canada. He loves all of the things to do there. People buy from people. Relationships are important. The habit that makes Ben more successful is getting up early and reading for about an hour. It helps him get a broader scope of the world around him. Every brand (personal or corporate) has a story. Ben believes that companies should get rid of their vision and mission statement and tell their brand story instead. Companies have vision and mission statements that they’ve spent so much time perfectly & crafting and yet no one remembers them. Who are we? What are we? Where are we going? What are we doing? Give your employees and customers something to grab onto and interact with. You want to have your customers tell your story for you. It’s building marketing that you’re not paying for. Everybody needs a helping hand. People need to be able to sell themselves. If you write it down, it’s real. Defining your brand is how you show up. You can say whatever you want, but until you act it’s not real. What do we really do at the core of our business? Who are our customers we serve and why do they care? Ask your customers: What you do well. What you can do better. If you aren’t gathering data and making sense of it, it’s useless. Don’t ignore problems because your customers won’t ignore them. Companies need a differentiating factor. Someone always sells something similar so why do people want to buy from us? 3 Steps Insight and Discovery Where are you today? Are we happy where we are? Is our brand relevant? Do my employees understand my brand story? Get your story on the same page. Does everyone get what you do? Start Building Your Brand. A logo is not a brand. A brand is what people think of you when you’re not in the room. Make sure your brand is consistent and that staff understands your brand otherwise they can’t relay it to customers. Listen When Dealing with Marketing. It’s the comments that are gold. Negative comments tell you to pay attention to something. Respond to comments while helping people understand why you care about them. Be authentic. It’s not a sliding scale. Either you are who you are or you aren’t. Ben Baker’s Recharge Round Share with us how you believe your mindset affects your life? Mindset absolutely affects life. If you believe you can, you can. If you believe you can’t, you are also right. What do you do daily to bring Energy into your life? He tries to go for a walk everyday because it allows him to clear his head and refocus. Share the number one connection that has made the biggest impact on your life? His dad was always an entrepreneur. He said that it’s not about failures but about what you learn and how you move forward. What advice has Influenced you the most in your life? Do what it takes to take care of your customer. If you take care of a customer, they’ll take care of you. Define in one sentence or less, what legacy you want to leave on the world? He wants to make the world a little better by educating people. If we, as personal or corporate brands do not understand who we are, what we do, who we do it for and why those people should care. . . they won't! Ben Baker believes that everyone has a unique and compelling story to tell. They just need to understand what it is and who their audience truly is, so that they can say the right thing, to the right people, in the right way. He joins us to discuss.
Storytelling has always been a way of life for Ben. From a young age, he realized that through telling stories people listened to him, understood him and engaged.
