This is a reading of Dorothy Sayers essay titled “The Lost Tools of Learning”. This very influential essay has been used by many in the US as a basis for the classical education movement, reviving the medieval trivium subjects (grammar, logic, and rhetoric) as tools to enable the analysis and mastery of every other subject. Educated at Oxford, Sayers was an author and friend of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. This is a rather long essay, but it gives insight into the differences between modern and classical education methods. I apologize in advance for the poor reading. Professor James Duane - Don't Talk to Police (5th Amendment Is Your Friend) In the spring of 2008, Professor Duane gave a talk at Regent Law School about some of the reasons why even innocent criminal suspects should never agree to answer questions from the police. Professor James Duane's Biography: James Duane is a Professor at Regent Law School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he received the Faculty Excellence Award in the Fall of 2002. He has twice taught as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia, most recently in the Fall of 2011. During the 2013-14 academic year, he served as a faculty associate at Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet and Society. He was awarded the Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award by the Virginia State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in 2002. He received his A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1981, where he was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and his JD cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1984. He clerked for the Honorable Michael A. Telesca of the United States District Court for the Western District of New York and the Honorable Ellsworth A. Van Graafeiland on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He was senior associate at the law firm of Connors & Vilardo in Buffalo, New York, where he practiced civil litigation and criminal defense, and was trial counsel for all of the defendants in Schenck v. Pro-Choice Network of Western New York, 519 U.S. 357 (1997). Professor Duane has taught at Regent Law School since 1991 in the areas of Evidence, Civil Procedure, Trial Practice, and Appellate Advocacy, and has published more than 30 articles in those fields. He is the co-author of Weissenberger’s Federal Evidence, and is a contributing editor of Black’s Law Dictionary. Since 1995, he has been a member of the faculty at the National Trial Advocacy College, conducted annually at the University of Virginia School of Law, and has also taught Constitutional Law at the National Litigation Academy. He has been interviewed about legal matters on television and radio, including National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, and has testified before the Advisory Committee of the United States Judicial Conference on the Federal Rules of Evidence. He has lectured before lawyers and law professors at conferences and training sessions conducted by Hastings Law School, the College of William and Mary, the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, among others. Cele Castillo served for 12 years in the Drug Enforcement Administration where he built cases against organized drug rings in Manhattan, raided jungle cocaine labs in the amazon, conducted aerial eradication operations in Guatemala, and assembled and trained anti-narcotics units in several countries. The eerie climax of agent Castillo's career with the DEA took place in El Salvador. One day, he received a cable from a fellow agent. He was told to investigate possible drug smuggling by Nicaraguan Contras operating from the Ilopango Air Force Base. Ivan Frederick Boesky (born March 6, 1937) is an American stock trader who is notable for his prominent role in a Wall Street insider trading scandal that occurred in the United States in the mid-1980s.
The character of Gordon Gekko in the 1987 movie Wall Street is based at least in part on Boesky, especially regarding a famous speech he delivered on the positive aspects of greed at the University of California, Berkeley School of Business commencement ceremony in May 1986, where he said in part "I think greed is healthy. You can be greedy and still feel good about yourself".
In a 1993 episode of Animaniacs entitled "Plane Pals", Yakko, Wakko, and Dot harass a tightly-wound Wall Street accountant named Ivan Blowsky, when he is forced to sit next to them on an airplane.
The character Charlotte, a high-stakes CEO, on Rugrats has two fish in her office named "Boesky" and "Vesco".
Boesky is mentioned in the episode Last Days of the television series Sliders: after an asteroid fails to destroy the Earth of the dimension they are in, Rembrandt Brown sees an article in a newspaper stating that Boesky had bought half of the houses in Beverly Hills for $10,000 dollars apiece, and that the erstwhile owners want their houses back.
In the 2001 film Ocean's Eleven, Brad Pitt's character, Rusty Ryan, mentions a type of confidence scam termed "a Boesky" that involves a wealthy bankroller with insider information.
In The Shield, Vic Mackey states that there will be a "money laundering operation which would make Ivan Boesky flinch".
In Season 2, Episode 3 of "Psych" ("Psy vs. Psy"), the Federal Treasury agent claims to have arrested Ivan Boesky himself.

Gump & Co., the sequel to novel Forrest Gump by Winston Groom, had the protagonist Forrest Gump being hired by "Ivan Bozosky". Gump also later begins to wonder how he is being able to command such a high salary for only having to sign papers.

Lysander Spooner (January 19, 1808 – May 14, 1887) was an American political philosopher, essayist, pamphlet writer, Unitarian, abolitionist, individualist anarchist, legal theorist, a member of the socialist First International[1] and entrepreneur of the 19th century. He was a strong advocate of the labor movement and severely anti-authoritarian and individualist anarchist in his political views.
Spooner's most famous writing includes the seminal abolitionist book The Unconstitutionality of Slavery and No Treason: The Constitution of No Authority which opposed treason charges against secessionists. He is also known for competing with the Post Office with his American Letter Mail Company. However, it was closed after legal problems with the federal government.
Rothkopf served as a senior executive and editor at Institutional Investor, Inc. and served in a similar capacity at Financial World magazine.
Later, Rothkopf co-founded and served as chairman and chief executive of International Media Partners, Inc., which published CEO Magazine and Emerging Markets newspaper and organized the CEO Institutes.
In 1993, he joined the Clinton Administration as Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Policy and Development. Rothkopf later served as Acting U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, directing the 2,400 employees of the International Trade Administration including the U.S. Commercial Service, the International Economic Policy Bureau, the Bureau of Import Administration, and the Bureau of Trade Development.
He left government service and became managing director of Kissinger Associates, the international advisory firm founded and chaired by former U.S. Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger.
In 1999, he co-founded and served as chairman and CEO of Intellibridge Corporation, a provider of international analysis and open-source intelligence for the U.S. national security community and selected investors, financial organizations and other corporations.
In 2012, the Washington Post Company, then a division of Graham Holdings Company, named Rothkopf CEO of the FP Group[3] and Editor at Large of its Foreign Policy magazine, ForeignPolicy.com, and FP Events.[4] He served until May 2017.
Later, he co-founded and served as president and CEO of Garten Rothkopf, an international advisory firm specializing in transformational global trends, notably those associated with energy, security, and emerging markets.
He is a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where he chairs the Carnegie Economic Strategy Roundtable,[5] and chairman of the National Strategic Investment Forum Dialogue, a forum convening leading institutional investors for discussions about critical issues of investment strategy.[6] In addition, Rothkopf serves or has recently served as a member of the advisory boards of the U.S. Institute of Peace, the Johns Hopkins/Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Center for Global Development, and the Center for the Study of the Presidency.
Rothkopf is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and has taught international affairs at Johns Hopkins University's Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Columbia University's Graduate School of International and Public Affairs,[7] the Georgetown School of Foreign Service and has lectured at leading universities including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, the National Defense University and the Naval War College.[8]
A Democrat, he has said he voted for President Barack Obama twice.[9]
In 2018, Rothkopf became a media consultant for the United Arab Emirates.[10]

In the first intellectual history of neoliberal globalism, Quinn Slobodian follows a group of thinkers from the ashes of the Habsburg Empire to the creation of the World Trade Organization to show that neoliberalism emerged less to shrink government and abolish regulations than to redeploy them at a global level. Quinn Slobodian is a historian of modern German and international history with a focus on North-South politics, social movements, and the intellectual history of neoliberalism. He is the author of Foreign Front: Third World Politics in Sixties West Germany, and the editor of Comrades of Color: East Germany in the Cold War World. He has just completed a book manuscript with the title Globalists: The End of Empire and the Birth of Neoliberalism and is co-editing a volume on neoliberalism with Dieter Plehwe and Philip Mirowski. His new project on the rise of international economic law has been supported by an NEH fellowship and an ACLS Frederick Burkhardt Residential Fellowship. He will spend 2017-18 in residence at the Weatherhead Initiative on Global History at Harvard University. The main thesis of John s body of work can best be illustrated in my opinion by asking the question: What do public schools actually teach children? , and answering it with the main themes contained in John s first book, printed in 1992, titled Dumbing Us Down , he makes the following observations about how public schools are designed in form and function: 1. Public schooling teaches confusion by breaking coherence. It presents an ensemble of information that the child needs to memorize to stay in school. 2. Public Schooling teaches them to accept their class affiliation. 3. Public Schooling makes them indifferent and suppresses natural curiosity. 4. Public Schooling makes them emotionally dependent on approval from authority. 5. Public Schooling makes them intellectually dependent on experts and authorities to think on their behalf. 6. Public Schooling teaches them a kind of self-confidence that requires constant confirmation by experts and authorities (provisional self-esteem). 7. Public Schooling makes it clear to them that they are always supervised, under surveillance, and cannot hide; especially in today s society where everything online is tracked and private information is sold in a variety of ways to a variety of predators. This is a lecture by John Taylor Gatto given at The Institute for Theological and Interdisciplinary Studies, February 4, 2011 at Macalester College, St. Paul, MN. This is one of John's last public appearances prior to his multiple strokes in late 2011; this lecture features John presenting material from his yet-to-be-published book.
A book which tells the previously untold story of schooling as not an altruistic enterprise of enlightened men to benefit their fellow man, but an effort by rich industrialist and eugenicists to preserve their power and influence by "Dumbing Down" their fellow man to the point at which he would willing accept a life of gloomy servitude in their factories. Gatto spent 9 years writing this book, after discovering primary sources, such as minutes of the industrialists' meetings, often painted a very different picture from that which later propaganda would have people believe.
Considering its huge size, the book is very readable. It is broken into hundreds of small sections, which mix historical record, interpretation and Gatto's personal experience to paint a compelling picture quite different from the traditional romantic image painted by the powers that be. In spite of selling over 500,000 copies based only on word of mouth recommendation (no advertising), its theme is so confronting that it has been largely ignored by the controlled media. Nevertheless, its reception has been very warm online, and it has been called a "superhuman effort of scholarship"[1].
Stanley Alan Plotkin (born May 12, 1932[1]) is an American physician who works as a consultant to vaccine manufacturers, such as Sanofi Pasteur, as well as biotechnology firms, non-profits and governments. In the 1960s, he played a pivotal role in discovery of a vaccine against rubella virus while working at Wistar Institute in Philadelphia. Plotkin was a member of Wistar’s active research faculty from 1960 to 1991. Today, in addition to his emeritus appointment at Wistar, he is emeritus professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania. His book, "Vaccines",[2][3] is the standard reference on the subject.[4][5] He is an editor with Clinical and Vaccine Immunology, which is published by the American Society for Microbiology in Washington, D.C..
