Earlier in the season when I had Mike Beers on the podcast talking about Basic Roster construction I promised as we got closer to the season I would try to have Mike back on to talk about some Advanced Roster Construction theories.
Well that begs the question “What is Advanced Roster Construction”? Well for me it takes into account a few different things the first and most important is going a bit deeper than what is the best basic roster constructions which as a reminder are 2-3 of QB, TE and D 5-6 RB and 6-8 WR. How you granularly break those down in first each individual draft and later build them into a portfolio is what I consider the most important part of Advanced Roster Construction.
Tweeting about MFL10’s is fun
Every once in a while I will get an epiphany. As do many other of the smarter #MFL10 players. Often I just like to share what I am seeing but at other times I am test marketing ideas. I want to see what other smart people think of my ideas to either bolster my belief in them or to talk me off of a dangerous ledge I am perched on.
It is also smart to check the twitter feeds of other smart players that you respect. See what players they are on and why. As much as I love podcasting I struggle to find the time to listen to others podcasts. But often the key points that people talk about in pods are covered really succinctly in a tweet and then a great conversation arises where I can congeal the key points in a whole podcast worth of listening in a couple short minutes of reading.
It is also important to weigh what is being said and consider it without being pushed by others thoughts to abandon something you believed in or to get on a player you really didn’t like. I have mentioned this before but one of the things I think I did too much of my first two years playing MFL10’s was allowing others thoughts to push me too far. We each have our own personality. Maybe your problem is more that you are more stubborn than you should be. Whatever your personality type really working on how you process information is very important in life as well as in drafting in MFL10’s.

• Lineup Construction. I have been beating this drum all year. Stick to solid constructions overall. We have discussed the few best constructions and work within them depending on both draft position and how the draft value falls to you. • Exposure. Track your exposure. This year I am using Mike Beers work on Best Ball Command Center to track my exposure. As mentioned many times I never want to drop a tier to accomplish another goal. But if you have players rated similarly don’t be the guy who owns ten shares of one guy and one share of another and then watch the ten share guy get hurt. Injuries are a major part of winning at MFL10’s so mix up your exposure among similarly ranked players when you can. Also it is important to establish and keep track of the maximum you are comfortable with on any player as well. • Advanced Roster Construction- We will do a full article and podcast on this soon but for now consider not drafting the same way all the time. I recently took Antonio Brown over Bell, DJ or Zek. I only had 2 AB shares vs 6 or more for each of the other three AND I know it is likely I can get 2 RB at the turn which gives me a unique construction. I also at times if Kelce or Ertz fall take them and then back them up with Olsen or Rudolph and then stop at TE. Think of ways like this to mix up your teams and boost your overall portfolio.
My favorite tactic in mid to late rounds is to look for players whose current ADP I believe that they can comfortably hit without any injuries or role changes opening up the way for them. Some of the type of players who meet these criteria each year include • Third down RB and Slot WR such as Chris Thompson or Cooper Kupp last year.• Overlooked #2 WR such as Marvin Jones, Devin Funchess or Mohammed Sanu last year.• Role RB like Rex Burkhead last year who through injury or inefficiency could get a look.• Home run hitter type WR such as Will Fuller or Kenny Stills last year.• Rookies who are not expected to start year one but should have a role.

Lots of big news to discuss at the top of the show. I won my first albeit small GPP yesterday and will be giving out my secret to success on Fanduel(tongue in cheek). I also came in 18th in the nightime Squeeze for a very profitable day. Meanwhile the Mauler continues to defeat JMtowin at cash with no end in sight. Or is there? We will ask the Mauler. Then we will give you our best plays of the day and combine them into what we hope is a better lineup than our last time out.

On a Saturday where there are very few pods but an intriguing NBA slate the Mauler and i will go GPP hunting after just missing out on a huge night when last night when our late plays didn't work out.
But we did cash. The conversation today will be whether to stack or fade the huge 233 point NBA showdown in OKC tonight between the Thunder and the Warriors. I have a feeling i know the way the Mauler will want to go but maybe we make a lineup with and without. For sure i have a neat idea to allow the studs in the lineup so toon in to hear.
The Mauler and i will attack tonights Draftkings $33 dollar tourney with two entries. It is the NBA Bird which has 50k to first place. Most likely we will be narrowing our selections, tweaking the projections and using fantasylabs optimizer to make two lineups and then tweak them.
On a day where the Clippers/Kings have a very high total. The Wizards and Sixers are an interesting game to consider stacking. Clippers, Sixers two teams playing most up in pace

The Mauler and i try to get back on a winning way with a 20 lineup attack on a huge Sharpshooter tonight on DK. We are going to be narrowing our choices to some core people and then using Fantasylabs we will be tweaking projections and using the optimizer on Fantasylabs to build 20 lineups to throw in tonights Sharpshooter on Draftkings.
