It is that wonderful time of year again, high school musical season! We have two back to back episodes to help promote our local musicals.
Our first episode features the Seneca Valley All School Musical and this year's production of The SpongeBob Musical! We're honored to have two members of the cast, Isaac Hixon & Morgan Roithner, as well as Producer Jessica Kavanagh.
We learn all about what this wonderful musical is: Join SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang as they face the terrifying threat of a volcanic eruption. Through catchy songs and dazzling dance numbers, this underwater adventure is a joyful celebration of optimism, friendship, and the power of community.

After a long hiatus, we are back with a new season of Armstrong In The Loop Podcast! For our first episode of the season, we're here to talk with Mindy Schnitgen (Inspired Hearts and Hands). Mindy is the Executive Director and has been running this wonderful organization for the last 13 years.
We start the episode talking about IH2 and everything she does for those in need. Mindy talks to us about the growing need for resources across the 4 counties that she supports: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver and Butler.

We are excited to celebrate our 5th Anniversary of Armstrong In The Loop Podcast with our very own Pennsylvania State Senator of the 47th District, Elder Vogel! This episode is also a special occasion as we were able to record in the Butler County Chamber Podcast Studio so special thanks to Jordan Grady & Christian Shields.
Our conversation with Senator Vogel is all about his time in office, over 15 years, and the achievements that he's had during his tenure. We start off discussing local community fairs since we're in the heart of farm show/fair season. We work our way into discussing the state budget that was passed in July and what it means for everyone. Senator Vogel does in-depth on important areas of focus: Education, Transportation, Agriculture, and Telemedicine.
We spend time discussing Senator Vogel's recent telemedicine bill (Senate Bill 739) that went into law this summer. This was vital for everyone in the state and took a lot of hard work to get passed. Congratulations to Senator Vogel and his entire team that worked on this bill over the last several years!
We also highlighted a very important bill that Senator Vogel was able to get into law in 2023, Expanding access to Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) in the state of Pennsylvania. This bill improves the availability of critical care to sexual assault victims. We are very honored this week to have Pennsylvania State Representative of the 12th District, Stephenie Scialabba, as our guest to talk to us about her brand-new event that she is hosting in May.
Rep. Scialabba previously hosted a Senior Expo, in 2023, that was very well attended by the public. There was an opportunity to grow the old event into something that would focus not only on Senior Citizen resources but resources for everyone, no matter the age.
On Thursday, May 16th, Rep. Scialabba will be holding her 1st ever Family First Initiative Event at the Steamfitters Event Center in Harmony, PA. This is a free event and will host over 100 interactive tables, resources and special sessions. The event will run from 10am-6pm and there is plenty of parking at the facility so we welcome everyone to come out and attend this great event!
There will be collection boxes at the event for old glasses and cellphones if you're looking to donate as two non-profits are collecting!

At the Sr. High, the LEAD group of students and staff are driving a “SV Norms” movement that highlights positive behavior and attitudes to shape students into productive members of society. All proceeds from the incredible event will benefit this initiative.
The Harlem Wizards are renowned for their dazzling basketball skills, incredible athleticism, and, of course, their unmatched ability to entertain audiences of all ages. We have quite the episode in store for all of you as we recorded live from the brand new podcasting studio inside the Butler County Chamber of Commerce office! We had the honor of being the first ever podcast episode to record in the studio and looking forward for many other shows to get the same opportunity in the near future!
Not only did we get to record in an actual studio, we were honored to have Bill Dimond, President of the Southern Butler County Business Association (SBCBA), join us to record the episode.
Bill is the first President of the newly created SBCBA and is excited to talk all about the organization's infancy as they just started at the end of 2023. This new business association is under the umbrella of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce but is responsible for running the organization. All of the members that make up the SBCBA are the ones putting together events, marketing, opportunities for small businesses and so much more!
The organization recently created their own website, https://www.sbcba.net/, and are able to accept applications for membership. Membership is free for everyone that joins in 2024 thanks to a startup grant from the Butler County Chamber. Dues are going to be under $50 for all sized businesses and organizations after 2024 to help offset the cost of running the SBCBA website.

It is officially High School Musical season! We are lucky to kick off the 2024 musical season with members of the Seneca Valley All-School Musical production and cast. We're joined by Michael Marra (Director), Amber Hugus (Co-Producer), and Jackson Hugus (Lead actor).
This year's production is Something Rotten! Something Rotten! is a musical comedy that premiered in 2015. The musical is set in 1595 London and tells the story of the Bottom brothers, Nick and Nigel, who are trying to write plays to find success. The brothers are overshadowed by the Renaissance rock-star playwright, William Shakespeare. In an attempt to find success, Nick seeks help from a soothsayer who tells him that the future of theater involves singing, dancing, and acting at the same time.
We hear all about the comedy that this show brings and the call backs to famous musicals in one of the show's biggest production numbers. We also discuss all of the students that are apart of the show from cast, crew, tech and the orchestra!

This week's episode features a program in Butler County that has helped over 600 inspiring leaders gain new skill sets to be more successful in their careers & personal lives. We are honored to have Ian Hunter and Jamie Conrad, Co-Chairs of the 2023-24 Leadership Butler County Class, to talk all about the program. This year's class has the honor of having the largest class size in the history of the program!
Ian and Jamie talk about how this year's class has kicked off as they already have a few months under their belt (1st class in September, once a month programs). The most recent program, Media in Butler County, seemed to be a class favorite.
The class recently selected their legacy project and it was announced to the public right before the start of 2024. This year's class will be partnering with the Prospect Boys and Girls Club to build new fencing, new dug outs, and a new concession stand! This project requires $20,000-25,000 and in order to get the funds needed, the class is kicking off with a Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser on February 10th. As September ends, it is time to start thinking about the holidays as they are fast approaching! This week's episode features the Ellwood City Hometown Holiday Toy Drive and we're honored to have Rhiannon Schnell, Board of Director member of the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce & representative of the Ellwood City Borough.
We start the episode off learning about what this wonderful Hometown Holiday Toy Drive is and why it is so important for the community. The toy drive is a collective effort between the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce, the Ellwood City Borough and the Ellwood City Area School District. The school identifies families that may need extra help at Christmas time. The Chamber of Commerce handles the advertising and acts as the main sponsor of the event and the Borough handles toy collection and helps with distribution. What makes this toy drive so special is that it is specific to only the families that live in Ellwood City. Everything collected stays in the Ellwood City community!
If you're wanting to donate but are wondering what is being accepted: New, unwrapped toys for really any age are appropriate. The toy drive helps families with children from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade. Also, if there are any smaller children in the family, we will do our best to help them out as well so really no toy is too young. We do accept monetary donations that would be used to purchase gift cards for some of the older kids if we do not have items suitable for someone in high school. We do encourage people to donate items that would be able to be used for older kids such as make up kits for older girls or hoodies for the boys. Checks can be made payable to the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce and mailed to the Ellwood City Borough in care of Rhiannon Schnell at 525 Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City PA 16117.

We then turn our attention to their wonderful annual event, Ruckus For All. This year's event will be held Sunday, August 20th, from Noon to 4pm at the 11th Frame Bar and Grille! This week's episode highlights an upcoming event in Butler County that has helped hundreds of thousands of people all across the United States. Lynn McKinnis, Concordia Visiting Nurses, joins the podcast to talk about the upcoming Remote Area Medical Pop-Up Clinic that will be held November 11th & 12th at the Butler Intermediate High School.
Concordia Lutheran Ministries has invited Remote Area Medical (RAM) to provide a dental, vision, and medical clinic in Butler PA on November 11-12, 2023. This will serve people in the Butler area who are uninsured, underinsured, or have insurance but cannot meet their deductibles or co-pays. All ages are welcome and no personal information is obtained from the patient unless they wish to give it. All services are completely free. As the community host, Concordia Lutheran Ministries has committed to securing the venue, recruiting all volunteers, providing food, lodging, supplies, insurance, paying for lab tests and coordinating follow-up care. In turn, RAM provides all the medical equipment, digital infrastructure, and a core staff to supervise the volunteers and manage patient flow.
The key part in making an event like this happen is the medical volunteers (doctors, nurses, dentists, etc.) that participate and take time out of their lives to assist those in need. Lynn stresses the importance of getting medical volunteers as the more they have, the more people they can treat over the two-day event.

This week's episode is a celebration as CURIO in Zelienople, PA is celebrating its 6th Anniversary! We're honored to have Co-Owner, Jason Shorr, join us to talk about the evolution of CURIO over the last 6 years and all of the new & exciting changes that they've made to the art studio. This week's episode is one we've been very excited about because we're announcing the grand return of Pizza with a Purpose! We're doing this a bit differently for this episode as Greg Rhoton, Co-host of Armstrong Street Scene, is hosting and the normal host, Seth Prentice, is being interviewed about Pizza with a Purpose. We also are thankful to be joined by Mindy Schnitgen, Founder and Executive Director of Inspired Hearts & Hands (IH2).
We kick off the episode by learning about Pizza with a Purpose. This event was created in 2018 thru Armstrong's Breaking Bread initiative to help raise money and awareness for a local non-profit. We also wanted to create a competition of all the locally owned and operated pizza restaurants to showcase the best of the area!
On Thursday, June 1st, we will be hosting Pizza with a Purpose at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry, Township from 6pm-8pm. The public is invited to attend and fill up an empty pizza box with the best slices of pizza in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. Pizza boxes are $25.00 and they include 10 slice tickets to try various slices of amazing pizza. Each box sold will purchase a brand new pair of shoes for the Inspired Hearts and Hands Kidz Equipped Program.We will also have an exciting announcement as we are celebrating 25 years of Zoom Internet by hosting a FREE Skate Night from 7pm-8pm. Tickets to the skate night also include skate rental. We are asking anyone wishing to skate to bring an unopened box of cereal as we're hosting a cereal drive for Inspired Hearts and Hands.
If that wasn't enough, we will have former Pittsburgh Penguin and current radio personality, Phil Bourque, to do a Meet & Greet with the public starting at 6pm.

We're excited to talk about one of our favorite yearly events this week, the Zelienople Rotary Club's Shamrock Shuffle. Kathy Corcoran, Zelienople Rotary Club, and Joella Baker, Race Director & owner of Get Fit Families, join us to talk about this year's Shamrock Shuffle.
The Shamrock Shuffle is an annual event to benefit the Zelienople Rotary Club. There are 13.1, 5K and 1 mile race options. Athletes have the option to run 1 race, 2 races, or compete in the triple challenge and run all 3 races in all three races (16.1 miles).
- The hilly half marathon will have Jell-O Shots at the top of Textor Hill for those 21 and older.

Leadership Butler County has been strong for 25 years and remains a unique, nine-month program that educates class members on various local issues and topics. A special strength of this program, which seeks individuals who represent a cross-section of the Butler County community, is the diversity of its class members. Each year, the class consists of individuals from the private, public, and non-profit sectors. These men and women are active in business, labor, education, the professions, the arts, religion, human services, health care, and other backgrounds.
Shanea and Cody talk to us about the 3 projects that their class is undertaking and the different fundraisers that they'll be hosting this year to fund the projects. Ken has a tremendous amount of knowledge in the mental health and substance abuse field. We dive into a lot of topics that you'll want to hear Ken explain in much more detail!
Ken is an engaging speaker who has done a TEDx Talk in Youngstown, spoken for the Butler County Chamber of Commerce’s Youth Leadership Development program, and Butler County Criminal Advisory Board’s “Faces of Addiction”. In addition to speaking, Ken is also on the governing board of a “Hope is Dope”, a collaborative NPO with Vision Ministries and organizes ‘endorphin-producing’ events for people in recovery as a part of Butler Community College’s community initiative of the same name. Ken is an advocate for people in recovery from substance abuse. Having found a way to overcome his own struggles and reach his full potential, he now seeks to prevent young people from following a similar path and works to empower them to maximize their own potential, as well as helping others who may be struggling to recover from their own addictions.

Rooted in emotional intelligence, participants will learn 40 concepts such as beliefs, self-esteem, empathy, active listening, and managing conflict. This 24-hour cohort-based learning
experience incorporates high levels of activity and engagement. Participants will experience increased knowledge, practice, and application that encourage new perspectives and habits. The common theme for this program is building HOPE for one's future."
The Spring 2023 training registration is now open thru February 14th. Classes begin on February 21st. The cost is $450 per person and is limited to 20 participants.
There is also a version of the Personal Empowerment Training for Butler County Recovery Community. No fee but space is limited! Register by February 24th and classes will begin on February 28th.

Lee takes time to give advice for those wanting to participate in outdoor activities during the cold temperatures. The most important part of our conversation is making sure you get a solid pair of boots and protect your head with a proper helmet. He has other great pieces of advice but we'll let you listen to learn more!
We talk about misconceptions that people might have when trying to be active in the outdoors during the winter. As well as great advice to give to people who are just starting out or are letting their kids try something new.

We've super excited to have back Ron Carter, Executive Director of the Strand Theater, in Zelienople PA. It has been quite a bit since we last had Ron join us but it was worth the wait as Ron brought with him quite an extensive list of upcoming events to close out 2022 and some key highlights to kick off 2023.
Founded in 2001, The Strand Theater Initiative is a non-profit created with the mission of reviving Zelienople’s old Strand Theater as a cultural, education, and community outreach center. Through private and public financial support, The Initiative purchased The Strand in 2002 and completed the first of three planned construction phases in 2009. Since its reopening, The Strand has presented a wide variety of theater, concert, and film programming.
Ron starts off the show by sharing with us some of the upcoming events in November as White Christmas is running until November 20th. The Polar Express and Elf will be shown to wrap up November & kick off December. Christmas with Chris Jamison, The Voice Finalist, will be on December 2nd & 3rd. Currently, there are more than 113 million people around the world that have been made homeless by disaster and conflict. ShelterBox helps to provide emergency shelter & tools for families robbed of their homes by disaster and transforming despair into hope. In order for ShelterBox to continue to help those in need, they need to fundraise and there will be a dinner gala held on Saturday, November 4th at the Stables at Connoquenessing from 6pm-10pm. Tickets are $60 or tables can be purchased for $420. ALL proceeds raised at this event will go directly to ShelterBox's mission.

This week's episode is very special as we're honored to have Daviea Davis as our guest. Daviea is a very talented Glass Mosaic Artist and her recent work is going to be unveiled in Zelienople on September 29th.

This was all community-based artwork inspired by the community, partially funded by the Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau, and brought to life by acclaimed artist Daviea Davis. The unveiling event is open to the public and we hope people will come to see this one of a kind piece that will be on display for many years to come!

This week's episode is extra special as we have our Seneca Valley Senior, Avery Flood, to discuss the 5th Annual A Walk For Hunger Event.
Every September, Armstrong works to Avenge Hunger by collecting resources to help supply community feeding programs and bring awareness to the need that exists. A Walk For Hunger will provide financial support to community feeding programs in the communities served by the Zelienople Armstrong Office. The local feeding programs that we partner with are The Lighthouse Foundation, Southwest Butler Food Cupboard, Gleaner's Food Bank, Victory Family Church, and Holy Redeemer Social Services in Ellwood City.
A Walk For Hunger is also a Senior project for a selected Seneca Valley High School Senior each year. This year, we're excited to announce Avery Flood will be our Senior to continue this fantastic tradition! Avery will learn all of Breaking Bread's 4 key initiatives: Raising Awareness for students and people in the community, volunteering at our local food banks for food collection and distribution, and collecting food donations and money to be directly distributed to our food banks!
This year, we will be holding A Walk For Hunger in person on Sunday, September 18th at Zelienople Community Park in Zelienople, PA. Registration will start at 9 am. Alison Schuster will be doing a pre-walk stretch/yoga session before our opening ceremony. (Thank you, Alison!) Our opening ceremony will begin at 10 am and we will start walking the trail immediately after. You're only required to do 1 lap (3 laps = 5K) but you're more than welcome to continue on if you'd like to do a 5K. We will have a raffle basket drawing and check presentation ceremony once everyone has finished their walk!

This week's episode features an organization that may seem new or unheard of to many but has been around for several years, Family Guidance. Sami Bartek, Director of Communications and Strategic Partnerships, joins us to share the full story of Family Guidance and what they do in the community.
We start off with getting to know Sami and the backstory of Family Guidance. We learn about the One2One Mentoring program and their Promise Camp held each summer in Clinton, PA. Sami explains the One2One Mentoring program and how successful their program is for children in this region. Their success stories are quite amazing and just shows that if people are willing to help & volunteer their time, this program can help those in need. We spend time learning about the 6 week Promise Camp that helps to give children an opportunity that they wouldn't receive if it wasn't for Family Guidance. We go thru a typical day/week for the kids and learn that the camp is available to rent during the offseason.

-Work at camp in the summer
-Renting Promise Camp
-Done in a day projects- Volunteer opportunities for groups and organizations to help with projects at the camp. Examples are beautification projects by planting flowers and landscaping or painting/cleaning up the camp sites

This week's episode is thanks to Tricia Pritchard of the Butler Buzz. She put us in contact with Matt Meiers, founder of So Many Angels. Matt's wonderful organization provides hope, inspiration, and encouragement to children with cancer & other life-threatening medical conditions so that they can become whoever they want to be WHEN they grow up!
We start off the episode by getting to know about Matt and how So Many Angels started. Matt's background in photography and helping organizations such as Make A Wish, gave him the inspiration to use his skill set to create one-of-a-kind images of children being superheroes, princesses, and much more!
So Many Angels will be holding their first Pittsburgh event for families to get photos taken and experience what So Many Angels has done for over 100 children. The photo session will be held on Saturday, March 12th, 2022 at the UOMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township. This is free to families of a child battling cancer or other life-threatening medical conditions! See the information below:

Please try to arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled session time and have your child in costume ready to go!
After a few short instructions, we will start the photo sessions!
You will be met at check-in by a volunteer who will escort you to your photo station.
Then, the kiddos will take center stage, and we will take their photos! While we do not discourage photos or video being taken at the event, we really want you to sit back, relax, and watch your kid be a kid during their session!
- There is NO CHARGE for this.
- The session is only for children aged 3 through high school with life-threatening illnesses who have signed up through the sign-up page SoManyAngels.org on the event page. The Likeness Release must be signed.
- You will receive one (1) edited photo, and you will not see the edit until you see your canvas print!
- You will receive one 16x24 inch printed, ready to hang canvas with the edited photo.
- It may take up to 30 days for So Many Angels to deliver the canvas.
- All canvases will be shipped to the address you provided on your information form unless other arrangements have been made.
- You are encouraged to like/share/comment on So Many Angels' social media posts.

This week's episode features Maizee Zaccone from Victim Outreach Intervention Center (VOICe). Maizee is the Outreach & Volunteer Advocate for VOICe and she educates us on everything the organization does.
We start the episode by learning about VOICe being the sole provider of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crime services for Butler County. They provide services to any victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other crime, recent or past. VOICe also assists family members and friends of those who have been assaulted or abused.
Maizee also shares with us how they provide advocacy services to the community regardless of age, gender, race, color, religion, culture, national origin, sexual orientation, economic status, or the presence of any sensory, mental or physical disability.

We're honored to have back our two favorite people from the Butler County Chamber of Commerce, Jordan & Caitlin. This week's episode features Adventures in Training with a Purpose and we're honored to have Caleb & Sarah Kolb as our guests. We start off in the episode to learn about what is ATP, how ATP was started, the different programs offered, and much more.
Adventures in Training with a Purpose has a wonderful mission. Adventures in Training with a Purpose (ATP) was created to confront health and movement-related issues in vulnerable populations who no longer have the benefit of paid rehabilitation. ATP is a nonprofit 501c(3) organization with the stated mission of working towards a world where no one is held prisoner to his/her health-related limitations. The first word - Adventure, is intended to encourage participants to embark on an adventure that has no guarantees, but holds the promise that it will be challenging and meaningful. Training is the vessel builds an individual's armor and moves them towards the goal that will combine to create a fulfilling Purpose in life.
We spend a long portion of the show learning about the programs offered for Veterans and first responders. Aurelius, a specialized division of ATP, helps to train Veterans, First Responders, and Active Duty Military to overcome psychological & physical obstacles as well as strengthen their resiliency; while gorging their path to peak performance. Hear all about the amazing things ATP is doing for those that have risked their lives for all of us.
We end the episode by learning more about Caleb & Sarah's story as ATP brought them together and they were married in a spectacular fashion. Hear all about how & where they got married!

This week's episode features Linda Thoma of the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center. We learn all about this wonderful Community Health Center located in Butler that serves the uninsured and under-insured for the past 13 years.
They have provided medical care to over 12,000 individuals, provided $4 million dollars in free medication to patients and served over 2,000 patients in dental. They'll begin vision services later in November. CHC operates on 1 full time employee, 8 part-time employees and many volunteers to help serve those in need!
Linda shares the rich history of Jean B. Purvis and her reason behind starting the Community Health Center. We learn about the partnership that the Butler Health System and other organizations have with the CHC to provide services.

September is Hunger Action Month and we thought it would be a great opportunity to speak with one of the Western PA county food banks. Jennifer Miller, CEO of Westmoreland County Food Bank, joins us this week to talk about WCFB, Hunger Action Month and all the critical information that the public might not be aware of with their local food banks.
Jennifer shares her experience of how quickly she and her team had to pivot during the start of the pandemic to ensure people had resources. We talk about where things currently stand for local food banks and what resources are vital to those in need. Jennifer also talks about the need for volunteers as almost every food bank has a large number of senior citizen volunteers. Many might not be able to help right now because of the pandemic and you'll hear why volunteers are so critical to the success of any food bank.
We also talk about why Hunger Action Month falls in the month of September. The holidays are approaching and this is when people experience higher bills, utilities, etc. Fall and winter months are hard on people and Hunger Action Month helps to provide awareness, raise money, and food collections for our area food banks.

This week's episode features Armstrong Breaking Bread's 4th Annual A Walk For Hunger. The walk wouldn't be this successful without the help of each of the SVHS Seniors who have made the event a part of their senior class project. Our last 3 seniors: Julie Kopp, Taylor Kopp, Reaghan Wilkerson combined to raise $14,000 for our local food banks. Our guest this week, Ashley Felitsky, is our 2021 Walk For Hunger Senior and has a goal of raising $6,000. This is significant because we can surpass the $20,000 milestone in only 4 years. Huge accomplishment from these 4 young women!
A Walk For Hunger 2021 will be held on Sunday, September 12th at North Boundary Park in Cranberry Township. Registration will be at 9am and the walk will start at 10am. There will be raffle baskets, YETI Cooler drawing, and a check presentation after the walk is over.
Cost is $20.00 and includes a t-shirt
This is a hybrid event and can be done on your own time. We will have shirts at the Zelienople Armstrong Office for pick up starting on September 13th.

Mars Exploration Celebration for 2021 is finally here. Join us as we speak with Missy Gralish, Mars New Year Board of Director, and hear all about the exciting two-day event that they have planned in Mars, PA!
This will be the fourth Mars Exploration Celebration that the committee has organized and it will be the largest event yet! They are practicing all guidelines to keep everyone safe and are using a hybrid model if you'd like to stream from their YouTube or Facebook page. (Links below)
NASA will be partnering with Mars New Year but in a virtual capacity due to the rise in COVID cases. They have not pulled out! They have a full list of speakers and presentations that will be happening on Friday and Saturday.

This week's episode features Joe Sweeney, CEO & Founder of The Asservo Project. The Asservo Project are dedicated to protecting vulnerable and at-risk individuals from human trafficking and child exploitation. They work not only to expose predatory networks, but to intervene in coordination with law enforcement to rescue victims and bring meaningful, tangible aid to those whose lives have been impacted by these criminal activities. Along the way, they work to educate the general public about the scale and impact of human trafficking, highlighting the ways that we as individuals and communities can stand in defense of human dignity.
Joe and his group of volunteers are doing everything in their power to get their word out to the public. They're also looking to raise money to continue to grow the efforts of what they're able to do. This is a non-profit with over 30 volunteers that are helping because of their passion to help protect our own!

Summer is finally here and one of the best events in Western Pennsylvania will be here before we know it! The 2021 Moraine State Park Regatta will be held August 6th-8th at the Moraine State Park South Shore. Amanda Becker, owner of Appleseed Events LLC and Event Director, joins the show to share all of the fun and exciting events planned for the entire weekend.
The Moraine State Park Regatta aims to showcase eco-recreational activities for all ages and promote Moraine State Park. Featuring water and land recreational opportunities for all ages, nature-themed experiences and vendors from the local community, the event has something for everyone.

This release fills the sky with the color and movement of one of nature’s most beautiful creatures, the Western Pennsylvania Monarch. After 4:00 PM, individuals who pre-purchased Monarchs are welcome to release their butterflies in private, or alongside the mass release. Names (in honor of/in memory of) that were included at the time of purchase will be listed on the Regatta website. At 4:00 PM, we will present a mass release of nearly 500 butterflies.

Our episode starts off with a general description of what the American Legion does and it's importance in our communities. Mike and Dawn share stories of all the things that the Legion does from assisting Veterans & their families, placing flags at grave cites in Zelie/Ellwood City, to providing a place where active and retired Veterans can come socialize. There are a lot of amazing things that the Zelienople Post 474 does that will always go unrecognized as they do it to help their fellow brothers & sisters, not for recognition!
Mike and Dawn talk about the American Legion Riders and their upcoming fundraiser event. Mike shares his experience from participating in Rolling to Remember in Washington DC. The story alone is worth the listen! People are able to still participate if interested, just need to book a hotel room for the weekend.
The main purpose of the episode is the Zelienople American Legion Riders are hosting their 7th Annual Benefit Run on Saturday, July 10th. This motorcycle ride will start at the Zelienople American Legion and end at the Unionville American Legion in Rochester, PA. The total ride is over 100 miles but it ends with a wonderful Picnic! All proceeds from this run will benefit Homes For Our Troops who build specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans. The Legion Riders were able to raise over $10,000 for Homes For Our Troops in 2019 and we hope they surpass this number again in 2021!

We start off the show talking about Lernerville Speedway and it's location in Sarver. The 0.5 mile track and grandstand can hold up to 10-12,000 fans on any given night. The track has hosted numerous professional drivers including NASCAR's own Tony Stewart.

Eric lists off some of the bigger named races that the public should come out for as well as some of the races that have history at the track. This week's episode features a student run business from Seneca Valley High School called the "Raider Crate". We're joined by two of the students who are apart of this unique company, Luke Simpson & Zach Garcia.
Learn all about what the Raider crate is, how they came up with the idea, how many crates they've made so far and the highs & lows that came with starting a business during the pandemic.

We at Raider Crate have teamed up with SHOUT for the month of April to shed light on the committee's dedication to educating and advocating for diverse and minority groups. Our SHOUT chapter hopes to inspire young minds to spread kindness and SHOUT for diversity, inclusion, social justice, love, and equality!

Dan starts off the episode informing listeners about what his position is and what role he plays in the township's day to day activities. Kathy Corcoran, President of the Zelienople Rotary Club, joins the show to talk about their annual Shamrock Shuffle fundraising event and how her year as President has been.
Kathy shares her unique experience as going from President-Elect to President of the Rotary Club during the pandemic and the roller coaster of a ride trying to navigate the new normal. The Zelienople Rotary Club has found ways to still host meetings (hybrid & Zoom) and host traditional events with a twist (July 4th Parade was a porch parade in 2020).
Beth Marshall, District Governor 7280, has the distinct honor of representing the Zelienople Rotary Club as she's not only a Rotarian of the club but also District Governor for 2020-2021. John has been busy planning the annual Veterans Day Parade & a ceremony in Diamond Park in remembrance of the Armistice. The ceremony will begin at 10:30am on November 11th.

Carol Borden, Founder and Executive Director of Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, joins the show this week to talk about Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs. Carol and her team are celebrating 10 years of training and pairing over 300 service dogs with deserving veterans & others in need.
We learn about the history of how Guardian Angels started and what the mission is for the organization. Carol explains how 2020 has truly impacted them and the approach they're taking to cope with the situation. Learn about their caravan program they switched to during the early months to make sure veterans in need could still get paired with their service dogs!
We take a few minutes to talk about Armstrong's Healing Heroes initiative. 2020 has been a very unique year for the board as they try to raise funds, host events, maintain the pool & park and add a brand new skate park! Some of the normal events this year, such as Big Truck Day, were not able to be held but the park switched gears and hosted concerts, movie nights and brought back the duck derby at the pool. The duck derby was super successful and Maria shares how much the group raised!
The Zelienople Community Pool is in need of swimming blocks and the board is hosting a "Bags for Blocks" Cornhole Tournament on September 26th to raise enough money to purchase the blocks. If the tournament is successful, the group looks to host a tournament annually.

Chip Rowan, Community Marketing Manager for the Armstrong office in Connellsville, Pa, joins us to talk about the Armstrong Breaking Bread 10th Anniversary, Avenge Hunger Month and the Avenge Hunger Virtual 5K.
Chip highlights the history of Breaking Bread and what an impact the program has made on our local communities. Last two years alone, there was over 90,000 lbs (money + food combined) of food that helped to feed those in need. Avenge Hunger Month will look different in 2020 due to the pandemic but Chip & his team have found a creative way to help raise funds.
There will be an Avenge Hunger Virtual 5K from September 1st-30th to help the local food banks. Every penny received from registration goes right back to support the food banks! Registration is $20.00 and every participant will receive a medal, a running bib and finisher's certificate for completing the 5K. The 5K can be done at your own pace: run, walk, bike, treadmill, etc.
Those wishing to compete will have a chance to win a donation for the food bank of their choice. Armstrong will personally donate additional money to the top 3 finishers in their honor!

Sid Bream, former Major League Baseball player, is our guest this week to talk about an organization that has been doing wonderful things for kids in our communities for over 30 years, Christian Sports International.
Christian Sports International (CSI) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization founded in 1990 and it’s headquartered in a suburban community north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Michele Konyha and Mikayla Moretti are this week's guests to talk about this year's Leadership Butler County class project.
Michele and Mikayla explain the project at Moraine State Park and their ribbon cutting event at the Regatta in August. They need to raise around $50,000 to put in a handicap accessible boat dock as well as making improvements to the area around the dock.
LBC Class of 2020 has multiple fundraisers to help cover the costs. First, a fundraiser is an on-going ticket raffle to win top brand coolers, a kayak and much more! Tickets can be purchased thru any class member or contacting the Butler Chamber office for more information.

Jesse Putkoski, Area Director of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention- Western Pennsylvania Chapter, joins the show to talk all about AFSP. Jesse gives us a full insight into what AFSP is, their mission, fundraising and local events that their chapter hosts each year.

This presentation will cover what we know about this leading cause of death, the most up-to-date research on prevention and what we all can do to fight suicide. Participants will learn the common risk factors, how to spot the warning signs in others and how to keep ourselves, loved ones and those in the community safe.

Kim Racan and Gary Racan founded the Warriors Rock in Concert with the Studio E Band to honor the men & women who have or are currently serving our country. The band's mission is to empower these warriors and make this the most successful well-adjusted generations of Veterans in our Nation's History.
