Think you can out-exercise a bad diet? Think again.
The truth is, the more you work out, the hungrier you get. And you might be surprised to learn just how much effort it takes to burn off those "small" treats.
Ever indulged in a Hold The Cone from Trader Joe's? Just 90 calories, but did you know you'd need to run a mile in under nine minutes or walk for 25 minutes just to burn off one mini cone?
And let's not even start on heavier meals. A single pizza or a meal at Canes? That's up to 1,800 calories, and no amount of exercise can offset that in a day, considering everything else you eat.
The solution? Pair your workouts with a solid nutrition plan and a basic understanding of calories.
It’s not just about burning calories; it's about understanding them.
In this transformative episode of "Get Stacked," dive deep into the heart of motivation—or the lack thereof—in the realms of nutrition and fitness.

Do you find yourself working out intensely and not seeing the results you expect to see?
Elizabeth found herself working out for multiple hours a day focusing on the end goal of competing in CrossFit. The high intensity, and lack of recovery over a long period of time caused inflammation and ultimately led to injury.
Bradley sat down with Elizabeth to break down her fitness journey and how she came to meet her goals with the combination of intentional training and nutrition.
They ultimately uncover that while CrossFit is a great tool for many things, body recomposition may not be one of them. There is no one program that fits everyone, and it's important to ask yourself, "How is this working for me right now?"

This month we sat down with the Godmother of the Zero Dark Thirty Krewe, Kristi App.
Though Kristi swam competitively throughout her childhood and college, she joined Roux Fitness at almost 40 years old following 20 years of inconsistent workouts.
While her initial goal when she joined us was to lose weight, she quickly got hooked on seeing her strength numbers improve. Like with her swim team, Roux offers Kristi the camaraderie that she didn't find while working out on her own.
In addition to being a Roux member, Kristi is a self-proclaimed lifelong Stacked Coaching client. Kristi's nutrition journey began as a participant in some of Roux's nutrition challenges and then continued with Emily for individual coaching (even pre-Stacked). And unlike some of us, Kristi had an "ah ha" moment during quarantine and her nutrition and fitness clicked. She lost weight and was feeling great, despite the fact that she was no longer working with Emily.
However, once things opened back up she began to see some changes in the reverse direction. Kristi made the decision to reach out to Claire so she could get some guidance on incorporating nutrition and wellness into her everyday life. Kristi is now learning to balance her social life with her nutrition goals.
So, how hard is it for Kristi to get up each day to work out with the Zero Dark Thirty Krewe? Not very- working out sets the tone for her day and by 6:30am she can already check one success off her list.
Kristi is a great example of when you choose yourself and we are thrilled that she is our member of the month for August 2021!

Intuitive eating is a phrase that you have probably heard a lot. But what does it mean?
While it looks a little different for each person, it's a way of eating without rigid guidelines. A way to honor your body's cues. For a lot of people, getting here is the goal, but you need a solid foundation of habits first.
On today's episode Bradley, Emily, and Sarah sat down to talk about Intuitive Eating. Who should do it and when, the 10 principles, why a focus on habits is important, and how to identify your own set of BAMs.

Just because something is good for someone, doesn't mean it's right for you.
We're big believers in functional fitness and we also know the massive benefit of training in a group setting with like-minded people, but we also know that each body is different and one workout doesn't work for everyone.

Have you ever been working out, moving light weight, when suddenly you feel a tweak? Maybe you felt fine on your 52nd kettlebell swing, but on rep 53 your back tightens up and you can barely look at your shoes, much less drive home.
Turns out, that it probably wasn't the kettlebell swing that made your back so angry and avoiding that movement in the future won't fix you. Weaknesses develop over time.
And it turns out that you start loading your body from the moment you wake up, well before you even step foot into the gym.
On today's episode of "Probably the Best Fitness and Nutrition Podcast" Bradley, Emily, and Sarah talk about the concept of load vs. capacity. Learn how sleep, stress, diet, injury, and your anatomy play a role in your capacity before you even start your workout, why that matters, and how to improve your capacity while moving better.

🌟 MEMBER OF THE MONTH 🌟
Some of you know her as Ya-Ya, but we all know her as Charlotte Schneller.
In addition to being a Roux member and Stacked Coaching client, Charlotte is mom to our owner, Bradley Schneller. Even though Charlotte has been around Roux from the start, she was intimidated. She finally made the leap to try classes 3 years ago, but she just wasn't ready and was inconsistent.
Charlotte has had diabetes for many years, but after watching her sister get sick, Charlotte flipped the script. When Roux re-opened after quarantine, she made a commitment to herself to come to the gym 3 days a week and has stayed true to that for a year now.
In addition to that, she started working with Coach Claire and Stacked and has not only lost weight and become stronger, but she is off of one of her diabetes meds and has decreased her insulin. In fact, her doctor can barely keep up to adjust it because she is doing so well.
Charlotte is the perfect example of what is possible when you decide to say yes to yourself and we are thrilled that she is our June 2021 Member of the Month!
Do fats make you fat?!
We'll admit, out of the three macronutrients, fats might have the worst name. But just like protein and carbohydrates, you NEED fats.
How much?
It depends.
On "Probably the Best Fitness and Nutrition Podcast" Bradley, Emily, and Sarah sat down for the final episode in a 3 part series about macronutrients. Today we're covering all things fats. From where to get it , why they are so important for your body, how much each person needs, and more.

Buckle up for an age old debate: Are carbs good or bad for you?
Well, maybe not age old, but the discussion has been around for awhile. Which has led to carbohydrates getting a pretty bad rep over the years. And while how much you should eat depends on each person, it turns out that they are pretty important.
On "Probably the Best Fitness and Nutrition Podcast" Bradley, Emily, and Sarah sat down for the second episode in a 3 part series about macronutrients. Today we're covering all things carbs. From where to get it (turns out it isn't just in pasta and bread), how your body uses them, and more.

We prepare all year and every year it exceeds our expectations and surpasses the year before.
But year 4 looked a little different.
From date and venue changes before the event to mother nature seemingly laughing at us with rain from the very start of the day to the end, year 4 was one for the books. But we still can't wait for next year.
On today's episode of "With That Beind Said" Bradley, Emily and Sarah were joined by Roux Fitness coach, Shane Bohrer, who acts as head judge for WODi Gras each year. Each day is filled with decisions that can change our lives.
But that's a lot of decisions and somewhere along the line, you probably started making some pre-determined responses to those.
It’s a normal strategy for dealing with new opportunities. But if your strategy is flawed, you’ll continue to feel stuck.Eventually, something will and push you out of your comfort zone. If you don’t have a strategy to deal with new challenges, you may struggle to take control.
It's time to start initiating.

When do Average Joe's get to compete against elite athletes?
This isn't a bad joke with a terrible punchline. Think about it.
We're not sure about you, but we can only think of one time where the average athlete gets to throw down with the best in the world. And that's the CrossFit Open.
And what you might have noticed is that as a gym that started out at providing strictly CrossFit classes, we haven't mentioned anything about it this year...
Today Bradley, Emily, and Sarah sat down on today's episode of "With That Being Said" to talk about the CrossFit Open. They explain what it is, how we used to compete, why we don't put much emphasis on it now, and more.

What do you think of when you hear the word "CrossFit"?
Most people think about being constantly injured, big men grunting with their shirts off, and that it's something you can only do if you're going to throw around a heavy bar. Oh, and you can only talk about CrossFit.
So it might surprise you that Roux is about 70% female AND it turns out that CrossFit and Roux have made a pretty incredible impression on teenage girls.

A few years ago, New York’s Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology opened an exhibit that explored the evolution of the optimal “fashion body” from the nineteenth century all the way to today.
Ultimately, it showed one thing: whether you’re using a corset, Spanx, or working out 5 days a week to "lift and tone", women should strive for a shape that’s not their own.
So it should come as no surprise that our long-standing definition of femininity excludes women who opt to lift weights and incites fears of losing attractiveness and becoming too "masculine".
Today on "With That Being Said" Bradley, Emily, and Sarah sat down to talk about the feminine body. From Emily and Sarah's own journey to re-define what being feminine means to them to why all women can benefit from lifting a little iron and more.

When you go to the gym and look around, what do you see?
You see the equipment. You see the coaches and staff. You see the other members.
Now, look closer. Chances are that most of the other members look a lot like you.
That isn't a bad thing, but "normal" looks pretty different for everyone. Many people live with both permanent and/or temporary impairments. Things that affect them physically and even neurologically. You might not see a lot of those people in the gym. And that's something we want to change.

"Be brave enough to suck at something new."
We stumbled across this recently and it has been resonating with our team.
So often we let fear or frustration hold us back from trying something new because we know we can't win at it or we know we won't be one of the best or we're just worried with how we'll look to others. But we don't need to be the best at everything. Everyone starts somewhere. And fear shouldn't hold you back from having fun.
Today on "With That Being Said" Bradley, Emily, and Sarah sat down to discuss times they have allowed themselves to suck at something, how that mindset can change your life, and why it's important to apply this to your life regularly.
How often do you catch yourself saying, "I don't have time for that"?
Or do you find yourself wishing for more hours in the day everyday?
You aren't alone. And while it may feel impossible, when you don't have time for things, it really boils down to your time management.
On today's episode of "With That Being Said" Bradley, Emily, and Sarah sit down to discuss time management. They cover what it really means when you say you don't have time, the different forms of procrastination, tips for identifying where you are stuck and more. After all, don't we all want to work smarter, not harder?
What does your brand say about you?
Whether you own a business, work for a business, or have a social media profile, you have a brand.
What is the voice people hear when they think of you or your business? It may not seem like much, but can have a huge ripple effect.
On today's episode of "With That Being Said" Bradley was joined by Roux member and brand specialist, Michael Moreau. They discuss Michael's job as a brand specialist, branding vs. marketing, his journey to this profession, tips for creating a great brand, and much more.

How do you think about food?
For a lot of us, it's pretty black and white. Good vs. bad.
There's diets and cheat meals. We try to outwork bad meals and overcompensate in the gym, turning our workouts into punishments. We so often beat ourselves up over our food choices and create a cycle that's hard to break.
So today, Bradley, Emily, and Sarah sat down on "With That Being Said" to continue the conversation on nutrition. But today they dig deep into our mindset around food, how food is actually on a spectrum, how to approach your nutrition like it's on a dial instead of all or nothing, self-compassion, and much more.
With That Being Said: Episode 35; Working Out is NOT For Weight Loss
Most people join a gym, at least in part, to lose weight. And while your quality of life will improve from your new routine, you may not see the results you wanted from working out alone.
Because working out is for wellness, not weight loss.
Wait. What?!
On today's episode of "With That Being Said" Bradley and Sarah were joined by Emily Schneller. These 3 nutrition coaches dig into Bradley's recent certification and what he learned, why working out alone won't lead to weight loss, tips to help anyone with weight loss goals, and more.
Roux's first core value is to build relationships.
And that starts from within.
So today we are continuing the conversation on racism.
Today, Bradley sat down with Coach Janna Jackson and member Taheerah Britton for "With That Being Said" to build on and add to our ongoing conversations about racism. They talk about truly knowing your history, the importance of parents and teachers in teaching our youth, overt vs. microaggressions, the comments of Greg Glassman, and more.
We are honored to hear these ladies experiences and continue to learn more about what we as people, a gym, a city, and a country can do.
As a small business, Roux Fitness has tried to position ourselves to be leaders in our community. And because of that, we will not be silent.
Because tolerating racism, is racism.
Be we can't pretend that this is our area of expertise. We can't claim to understand this.
But we can listen.
Last week we sat down with Owner, Michele Washington, and long-standing member, Randy Smith, of Lagniappe Fitness. We are honored that they joined us on this special "With That Being Said" to start a conversation about Racism, CrossFit, BLM, and what we can do next.
We know that this is just the beginning.

Do you stand tall and fight it until it wears you down? Or do you ease into it and learn to adapt?
We've all been faced with major life changes that have forced us to adapt, to become adjusted to the new things we face. And what you've probably learned is that it is never easy, but always made better by maintaining a positive outlook.
