RADIO GAG - The Gays Against Guns Show
Gays Against Guns NY is an inclusive direct action group of LGBTQ people and their allies committed to nonviolently breaking the gun industry's chain of death—investors, manufacturers, the NRA and politicians who block safer gun laws. We are New York-based but work with GAG chapters in other cities to ensure safety for all individuals, particularly vulnerable communities such as people of color, women, people who struggle with mental health issues, LGBTQ people and religious minorities. GAG condemns white supremacy, all instances of excessive force by police, and police militarization. We meet every other Thursday at 7 pm. All who want to fight for better gun laws are welcome. This radio show airs live on WBAI 99.5 FM on Tuesday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. EST.
In this episode, Radio GAG begins to dig into the over 30 new and existing rules the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms plans to modify with the apparent intent to make guns even more widely available. While we continue to be bombarded by headlines about the mass shooting in Seattle at a Food Fair, family annihilations and teenagers killed in the crossfire at their local bodega, it seems the current Administration has plans to dump even more guns into the marketplace, risking the life and happiness of every American. Our show today includes an In Memoriam to Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, mistakenly killed by ICE in a small town in Maine and the “Skip the Counter” ATF Rule that seems like a gift to “GrabAGun” Don Trump Jr’s business scheme. With all the press on far right evangelical churches (was Jesus a Republican or a Democrat?), we have forgotten that churches have been a powerful force in Social Justice movements in the past and can still be today. With 40-50% of adults over fifty attending church in America, churches still have considerable political and economic clout. On our podcast today we talk with members of a grass roots, national group of gun violence prevention activists from the Methodist Church, the largest Protestant Denomination in the US. From the push for safe storage to common sense gun laws , Methodists are taking action with powerful , specific resolutions at their conference and national level, and actions and networking with gun safety groups. Then the judge tells you, this restraining order will protect you and your family from a confrontation with this person, but you cannot restrict them from carrying a gun. Unregulated tactical accessories are making guns more lethal - Part I of a two-part series. This Tuesday, Radio GAG will explore the issue of unregulated tactical accessories, in a two-part series, starting with the "auto sear." Although AR-type rifles are often involved in mass shootings, handguns are actually the most used weapon. Handguns and ARs have now become more deadly than ever thanks to the auto sear, which will convert a conventional semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic one for only $20. Why can’t we have an assault weapons ban? Assault weapons are used in most mass shootings that have killed and wounded terrifying numbers of people in public places. So why did our Congress allow the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 to expire in 2004? Why is it so difficult to get this ban passed on a Federal level when increasing numbers of innocent people and communities are terrorized with greater and greater frequency?

Gun violence changes lives every single day—whether someone has witnessed an act of gun violence, been threatened or wounded with a gun, or had a loved one wounded or killed with a gun. That’s why we use the term ‘survivor’ as inclusive of anyone who has personally experienced gun violence.
