What are you sowing this year? From the passage in Galatians 6v7-9, Viv unpacks the law of sowing and reaping & challenges us to ask the question; Who are you becoming in 2024?
John 1 takes Genesis 1 and shows us its true nature: Jesus is the light and life that made and sustains everything we see and cannot see. Yet the author of life and the light of creation came to the world he made and he was not recognised or received. We can see the light of God. But do we live in it? If we experience darkness in our lives, how do we let the light in?

This week Phil wraps up our Ephesians series, by unpacking Ephesians 6.10-23. Focus for the passage: In the previous passage, Paul describes a counter-cultural Christian household (within his cultural setting), but in this passage he speaks of another reality that works against the unity and transformation of the church: the reality of evil as an active force and how we are to resist it. Importantly, Paul has referred to ‘spiritual powers/devil’ at numerous points in this letter (e.g. Ephesians 2.2, Ephesians 4.27), so Paul is not bringing in a new idea here, but addressing the idea in more depth.
This week Karen continues with part 8 of the Ephesians series, unpacking Ephesians 4.17-6.9. Paul uses the language of ‘taking off’ and ‘putting on’ or ‘formerly’ and ‘now’ to illustrate how we are to live our lives since we became followers of Jesus, including instructions for a Christian household living within the new humanity created in Christ (within Paul’s cultural setting).
This week Ruth continues with part 7 of the Ephesians series, unpacking Ephesians 4.1-16. This passage is about unity not uniformity. Paul is talking to those who were insiders in God’s story (the Jews), who may now seem like outsiders and, the outsiders (the Gentiles), who have become insiders. Despite their differences, together they have become part of a new family, a multi-ethnic community.
This week Viv continues with part 6 of the Ephesians series, unpacking Ephesians 3.1-21. Paul prays that we would be empowered by God’s love to live radically new lives, that look like those described in the next few chapters. Living like that on the outside springs from God’s work within us on the inside and the company we keep. So that we can say, "I have a new identity that God is forming in me, so I can trust God to help me live in a whole new way, and find encouragement from those around me".
In this podcast, Jose takes us through part three of our Ephesians series, made one in Christ. This week she unpacks Ephesians 1.15-23
This passage follows Paul’s incredible introduction where he has praised God for all he has done in Christ. In response (“for this reason”) Paul prays directly for those he’s writing to, for them to know the power of God. Paul’s prayer is as wide in scope and deep in beauty, speaking of our “glorious inheritance”, the “incomparable power”, and the authority of the risen Christ.
This week Steve takes us through part five of our Ephesians series, made one in Christ. This week he unpacks Ephesians 2:11-22
Following on from last week, where Paul continues speaking to those outsiders - like us - who have become part of the family of God, not only reconciled to God but to one another, not a multi-ethnic community, as though they were being built together into a new type of temple building.
This week Phil takes us through part four of our Ephesians series, made one in Christ. This week he unpacks Ephesians 2.1-10
Following on from his prayer, in this passage Paul retells a before and after story of those outside the Jewish faith who have come to know Jesus, who have joined a new community, the family of God, and who are now a part of a new story with work to do.
This week Christine takes us through part three of our Ephesians series, made one in Lucy. This week she unpacks Ephesians 1.15-23

This week Karen takes us through part two of our Ephesians series, made one in Christ. This week she unpacks Ephesians 1.3-14. Chapter 1 opens with a beautiful Jewish-style poem, in which Paul praises God the Father for the amazing things that he’s done through Christ Jesus. In whom, we find the grace of God. Verses 1.3-14 is a single sentence from Paul and uses different verbs over and over to gush about what God has done, including explicit references to the work of all three parts of the trinity: Father, Son and Spirit.
Ephesians: Made One in Christ (Part 1) - Steve Bateman - Vineyard61 Church by Vineyard 61 Church
Jo Frost ends our 'Being Human' sermon series. Part four looks at the last two cores: participation and presence. In this talk, Jo explores the story of personal perspective. Deconstruction, power dynamics but most of all – isolated chaos.
Jo Frost continues with our 'Being Human' sermon series. Part three, Connection. We looked at the second core aspect of the being human lens – Connection. We are image bearers of a loving and relational God. One who selflessly and fearlessly loves us and enables us to love others the same way.
Julia shares three truths that anchor and empower the Christian life: (1) Make Christ central, (2) Become a people of his presence and (3) Tend the garden of your heart.
Jo Frost continues with our 'Being Human' sermon series. Part two, Significance. To bear God’s image is to point creation back to Him. To know him and to make him known. We too are invited to hear from God, to know him and be known by him. Genuine self-knowledge begins by looking at God and noting how God is looking at us. It’s not about what you’ve done or haven’t done. What has been spoken over you or what you have believed about yourself? You cannot earn your significance or lose it. Your significance is not insecure. It is assured.
Jo starts off our new series on what does it mean to Be Human and how do we flourish in our humanity? How you start a story and how you end a story affects the story that you’re telling. Our story starts in a garden. But it ends in a city: A city where Life flows like a river, where healing grows on a tree, where tears are wiped away.
In this concluding message on the Kingdom of God, Steve talks about being constantly filled with the Spirit of God to enable us to partner with God in His transformation business.
From Preparation to Enthronement to Reign, Tabitha unpacks these stages that bring us to celebrating Easter and the Reign of Jesus on this day and every day going forward.
Do you feel as though the world isn’t as it should be? We are living between God’s D Day and VE Day in the reality of the Kingdom having broken through but not in all its fullness. Viv reminds us that the crucified King has defeated death and will one day return in complete victory.
The coming of Jesus marked the beginning of God’s rule and reign on the earth but why doesn’t it always look the way we think it should? Karen unpacks the characteristics of the Kingdom that help us recognise, receive and wrestle with this in our everyday lives.
What is this "Good News" that we hear Jesus talked about so much? Julia continues our series on Kingdom Come, starting by looking at Matthew 4 : 17 - 25.
As Christians, we need to recover our foundation story, and then place our individual stories within that Big Story. Mike opens our series "Kingdom Come" with The Story of the Kingdom.
In this cost of living crisis, will our response be one driven by fear or trust in God? Viv & Steve talk about what it means to be a generous community and reflect the generosity that God has extravagantly shown us. If you feel called to join in head to https://vineyard61.org/give/
God’s unanswered invitation to Jonah to truly understand his grace becomes an invitation to you and me to do the same! Phil ends our series on the book of Jonah with chapter 4.
God loves showing us mercy and completing His plans not through our strength, but through our weakness. He loves giving us second chances. Christine continues our series on Jonah - looking at Jonah 3:1-10 and sharing some of her story.
No matter where you go or what you do, you can’t escape God! Andy continues our series on the book of Jonah with Jonah 2:1-10.
When we hear Jonah, we probably think Whale - but in seeing the great fish have we missed the great God in the book of Jonah? Mike opens this 4 week series with Jonah 1:1-17 - Jonah runs but God follows.
God's presence is with us, wherever we go; as we serve our city and as we gather together. Steve wraps up The Power of Church series with 'Presence'.
The Church functions in different ways at different times, sometimes as an Army, a Home, a Hospital or a School. Each one of us has a part to play every time we gather. From our Battersea site, Tabitha continues our series on The Power of Church.

Looking at Hebrews 3: 12-14, Georgia continues our Counterfeit Gods series with this talk on Love: Singleness.
In this talk from Big Church Oct 22, Zeke powerfully asks "Who or What is on the throne of your heart?" We worship what we love, and we love what we worship.
How do we identify our idols? & what do we do once we find there might be one? Mike kicks off this new series on Counterfiet Gods with: The Idol Factory: Identifying & Resisting Rival Gods.
In this talk Karen explores 'How to live a prayerful life'. When Jesus’ disciples asked him how to pray, he taught them not just what to say, but how to see the world in a whole new way.
Steve continues sharing the current vision for V61 with the 'Season of Consecration' and what that means for us both individually and as a church family.
Our vision of the church is born out of Isaiah 61 and so Viv looks back at Isaiah 6 to see what formed Isaiah's mission. He saw the Lord, which gave him the strength to face the cultural crisis at the time - how much more do we need this today?

How should Christians respond when we experience trials and rejection because of our faith? Phil explores Peter's answer to this by looking at not only what Peter calls us to do, but crucially how he invites us to do it. Expect to hear from Howard Thurman, Scot Knight, Carmen Joy Imes, Henri Nouwen...and Beatrix Potter.
How does it make you feel that your future gives angels FOMO? In this talk, Christine continues our series on 1 Peter, Living Faithful with 1 Peter 1 verses 3-12.
How do we remain faithful in the world? How do we live our lives in the world and yet not be of the world, maintaining our Christian distinctiveness? In this talk, Mike opens the series based on 1 Peter and how it acts as an incredible resource to us today as we seek to understand & respond to these questions.
Many people struggle today with the legacy of Christianity: has it been complicit in privileging ‘whiteness,’ whether in its history or current practices? Alexander addresses the complexities of these questions, acknowledging where Christians have got it very wrong, as well as considering what Jesus and the Bible really have to say about it.
Modern Science has greatly impacted human existence. We understand the human body better than ever before and are able to explore the natural world further than ever before. Yet, some think Science can tell us much more than just how the world works: it is able to answer every and any question that we have. Is this true? Or are there significant questions that require other types of expertise? Can Science answer the God question?
Why bring God into it? Can’t we simply aim to help and not harm others, to respect and be kind to others? In this talk, Mike explores if “be good” or “be kind” is the end of the matter, or if the Christian worldview has something more valuable to add in discovering meaning and purpose in life.
Many people have good questions about Jesus being the exclusive way to God. For example: In our complicated, interconnected & pluralistic modern world, is it right to see Jesus as the only way to God? Why can’t God just welcome sincere people who seek him from any point of view or religious system? Isn’t it arrogant to say that one religion is right over another?
A common question in suffering is, "Why" But, to whom or what are we directing the question? After briefly exploring responses from various belief systems, Mike leads us in considering the unique response of hope and meaning found in the Christian worldview.
In this talk, Amy speaks about the concern that Christianity’s outdated approach to life is viewed as harmful and oppressive, particularly for Women. Is this true? Or does Jesus & those that follow him promote an equality and peace that benefits individuals and society?
We encounter Jesus after he has been resurrected from the dead. In this talk, Julia considers the significance of the Easter story: Jesus has defeated death, thus proving his claims true and providing an unshakeable, enduring hope for us in life.
We stand before Jesus as he hangs on the cross. In this talk, Viv considers the brutality of the ancient crucifixion practice, and what it highlights about the lengths God will go to offer us forgiveness. Because of the cross of Christ, we are welcomed in and forgiven.
We join Jesus as he moves closer to the culmination of his whole life’s purpose. We are heading towards the crucifixion. In this talk, Steve considers the first scene in this process: Jesus in the Garden, engaged in agonised and vulnerable prayer to His Father. It is a moment of profound suffering, as well as of great significance. We see Jesus as our substitute in this moment - taking on our suffering - as well as an example to us of how to remain faithful to God in suffering.
We join Jesus on the dusty road into Jericho as he meets a man named Zacchaeus. In this talk, Zeke looks at Luke 19:1-10 and shows through this story that Jesus’ plan is to seek, save and send us. Jesus calls us to come as we are, but doesn’t leave us as we are.

Aside from learning that it’s best not to wee in the bath, this week’s talk explores why we are to engage with suffering and how that leads us to be unshockable.

An invitation to find refuge and strength in the joy of the Lord as we return and rebuild our lives and our community in the aftermath of the current pandemic.
Distraction often disrupts God’s rebuilding process in our lives . Let’s learn from the life of Nehemiah How can we persevere in a culture full of distractions?
Here is a message from SP with an overview of the story of Nehemiah that we have heard so far and how it relates to Jesus and the overarching narrative God is telling in the Old and New Testament. She explores topics of favour and God’s will and inspires us to embrace the inherited call on all of our lives to go into all the world and preach the good news of the gospel.
We engage in spiritual battle – But we should never get so distracted by fighting that we forget our main purpose is to rebuild. We fight the good fight of faith in the power of the Holy Spirit and with the sword of God’s Word so that we can build His kingdom with the trowel. And so Nehemiah and the people focused their minds on God.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” -The 2 greatest commandments Jesus gave us are to love God and love others. Thats it. In this world of uncertainty, struggle and loss, NOW is the time to be loving and serving the people around us.

Steve proposes that in all the trials and testing we are facing, God is burning away all of our the impurities in order to make us more like Jesus.
Viv talks from 1 Peter 4 v 12-19 on how God uses trials to show us where our trusts are, and He puts us through the fire until he can see his own image reflected in us. Jesus says in John 16 that in this life we will have troubles but that He has overcome the world!

In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus expresses to his followers that the Earth is ripe for harvest -- essentially, that people are ready for God and His kingdom to break in. Jesus' response to this statement was to immediately send out his disciples into the world sealed by the very same power and authority he ministered with.
In this week's podcast, Zeke re-introduces us to this very same progression. Will we respond as Christ did? Will we be a people who choose into this authority and proclaim and demonstrate the good news of Jesus Christ?
May you ever be challenged and inspired by this week's word!

In this week's podcast, Georgia generously shares from her own life experiences letting us into her own personal struggles with this all or nothing call. Ultimately, sacrifice is the only way forward yet the truest doorway to joy.
Not just once but twice, Jesus called the disciples to throw their nets to the opposite side of their boats; even when it made no logical sense. But the results were enough to baffle the imagination and prove His lordship to them.
This same mysterious Jesus walks on the shores of our lives each and every day inviting us into a life of trust and obedience. The results are always His abundance for us, for others, and the entire world around us.
Listen in this week as Steve shares on John 21 and reminds us of our mandate as the Church to reach outside our four walls and wash the feet of our city. It is in this place of obedience that we will see the abundance of God manifested throughout our city.
Tune in for an unprecedented podcast as V61 commissions out the Battersea team and Steve relays God's heart for London and the church at large in 2019.
It's a call to all artist's, creatives, and entrepreneurs to build, sing, and bring colour to this magnificent city. God is calling His church outwards once again to get low, get imaginative, and serve the least of these.
As 2018 draws to a close and 2019 opens wide before us, join us as we take some time to testify to all that God has done in and around us this past year.
Listen in as Steve also gives a message of recalibration as we look to the New Year with all of our resolutions, hopes, and expectations. How will 2019 be different for you?
Even if you couldn't make it out for our annual Carol Service, we hope you'll enjoy Viv's message on "Immanuel: God With Us".
It's a blessed reminder of the extent God has truly gone too just to be with us. He is the God who not only walks with us but the one who actually became like one of us. This is what the Christmas season is all about.
Wrapping up our series on Living Free, Steve lays out one of the greatest challenges of following in the footsteps of Jesus: forgiving others. Sounds simple enough, right?
The truth is, whoever we are it's pretty fair to say that we've been hurt or offended a time or two. But what we do with that offense makes all the difference.
Tune in to this weeks final talk on the series and pursue your very own freedom.
Most things in the world revolve around this concept of money. It controls our economies, fuels our businesses, drives us to go and work each morning, and whether we'd like to say it or not, has a lot of power over our motives and emotions.
Jesus, actually had a lot to say about money. In fact, he talked more about that than anything else. And as Viv so poignantly shares in this weeks podcast; money has a lot to say about the nature of our hearts.
Join us this week we as we dive into the tricky subject of finances and explore what the Bible has to say about this often all too personal topic! Freedom can be found in our wallets and bank accounts as well!
Whether we are married, divorced, single, or seeking all of us can easily find ourselves attaching our status to our core identity; trying so desperately to draw comfort, security, significance, or love from a construct rather than our creator.
In this weeks podcast, Georgia relates her experiences to us all as she's had to work through the many challenges and insecurities each of us can face in and out of relationships; what the world has to say about self-worth in light of relationships, and what God has to say about it all.
Please enjoy the talk and may you find comfort, satisfaction, joy, and peace in Christ no matter your current affairs.
Depression is a reality that will most likely affect each and every one of us at some point or another. For some of us that reality might even be a present one. As Steve leads us into the scriptures we find that the great saints of old dealt with these same feelings of anxiety and depression; feelings that even had them reconsidering life itself.
But what does God have to say about these all too real feelings and emotions? And more importantly, how do we navigate our way out?
Listen in to find out!

The word "Gospel"(an often quoted term in Christianity) is synonymous with the phrase "good news" -- a phrase often used to encapsulate the biblical narrative and the story of Jesus Christ. But what exactly is this "good news" the Bible so addresses and promises to yield to those who choose to accept it?
Kenny, in his debut preach goes straight to the heart of the matter and reveals what all of us so desperately want and need to hear. It's a message almost too good to be true, and one that must be heard to be believed.
Sex is everywhere. From films to magazines, adverts to social media we are constantly being bombarded with sex and how we should feel about it. Society tells us we're missing out without it and to get as much of it as often as we possibly can. Religion on the other hand wants to keep it all hush-hush and pretend like it doesn't even exist. But what exactly does the Bible have to say about it?
This week Steve & Viv take us on a provocative journey into the divine imagination of God and why He created sex. You may just be surprised by what you hear. Listen in and be amazed.
Is life meant to be more than just going through the motions? Is there more to Christianity than trying not to sin? Can we actually live a life on the other side of freedom?
In this weeks talk, Georgia shares more from her own personal story. What once bound her; what once held her hostage is now nothing more than a memory. Victory is just the beginning to this life with Jesus. Listen in and be encouraged as you too can enjoy this freedom!
Kicking off our latest series called "Living Free", Viv explores the differences between the post-modern approach vs. the biblical paradigm for freedom. She examines the ancient practice of the jubilee year, where the Jewish people would wipe away all debt, relinquish properties, free slaves, and let the land lie fallow. Now that we're in the modern age what does this mean for us? Has Christ' sacrifice opened the door for an endless Jubilee? Tune in to find out!
Continuing our vision series on Isaiah 61, Georgia shares her first hand experiences of how she's been used by God in the workplace. From healing miracles to conversions and supernatural favour, Georgia shares how you too can be a beacon of hope and a force for change in your work environment all while still being normal. We all have the capability to transform the atmosphere of our work room floor and it all begins with knowing who we are and what we carry. We are a naturally supernatural people.
Believe it or not, BVC just turned 3 years old, and with that we are going through a whole host of exciting transitions. As we move to being one church in multiple locations the need for a name that goes beyond geographical borders and that encapsulates our very DNA brings us to our decision to change our name to Vineyard 61 Church. The "61" coming from Isaiah 61: one of our favorite and most inspiring scripture passages.
Listen in this week as Viv reflects over the last three years and all that God has already accomplished through His church. Steve also draws our attention again to Isaiah 61 and what a life anointed by the Holy Spirit looks like in this bare and broken world.
There are so many things to be thankful for. And as we continue into this season of transition and growth lets remember to praise Him for all that He's done and is about to do.
We hear this word revival thrown around here and there, but what does it actually look like to live in a state of revival? And why was it so important to God that Jesus literally laid down his life for this very purpose?
Tune in this week as Steve shares practically from Isaiah 61 what it means to be in this new covenant under Christ and the lifestyle we get to partake of in the Spirit. Alle, also shares four ways to conduct continual fellowship with the Holy Spirit that leads to a life of healthiness and miracles.
Some stories are just too good not to share. This is Daisy's.
Listen in and be reminded of the power of prayer. It actually works!
Wrapping up our series on Characters of the Bible -- Paul invites us into the story of Hannah -- a woman who lays it all down for the sake of her Lord.
We all can relate to her story of a dream deffered. We all know what it's like to wait on God for our breakthrough. But would we be as willing to part with that very thing we'd been waiting and contending for? Could we trust God with those things that matter most to us?
Listen in for another challenging podcast that will leave you revisiting the promises and position of God within your own life.
Following the series of characters in the bible- the story of Hosea and God's exposing love.
"Sometimes we don't know what God's doing, and sometimes it doesn't make sense, but we know that He is at work, and to wait on Him we'll have a different perspective." -Elise
When one thinks of relatable characters, Habakkuk isn't usually the first person who comes to mind, but as Elise uncovers in this weeks podcast, Habakkuk knows exactly what it feels like to be right in the midst of struggle and to find himself questioning God, his faith, and his circumstances. How fitting, eh?
We may find we have more in common with Habakkuk then when ever thought before.
Tabitha continues in the series of characters from the bible. She reveals her 6 month struggle to like the character of David and yet how maybe he could understand God’s grace better than any of us.
What is accurately titled, "The Poison of Perfectionism"; Will shines a bright light on the epidemic of perfectionism within and outside of the church walls.
What some might consider a strength he points out its detrimental and harmful affects and the easily mistaken difference between what excellence is and what perfectionism actually is.
Join us for part 3 of our Characters of the Bible series as Addison introduces us to an often overlooked Old Testament hero, King Hezekiah: a man who intentionally denied the paths of his fore-fathers to re-connect a nation back to God.
Listen in and be inspired, challenged, and drawn to act just as King Hezekiah was. Enjoy the preach.
We continue our series on Characters from the Bible. Elias shared about Haggai and the prophecy that God told him to tell the Jews to rebuild the Temple of Solomon.
Steve shares about the role of Barnabas in the beginning of the new testament. How we can learn from him to focus not in the past of a person but in the future that holds on with Jesus.
Last talk from the series Kingdom of God. Steve shares with us about the hope that we have when we put our trust in God.
Part of the Kingdom series Viv Bateman talks about how to increase in the "now" of the kingdom. She shares about the healing power of confession and forgiveness.
Karen Sturrock - The Kingdom of God at work - 1 Peter 2:9&10 - 10.06.18 by Vineyard 61 Church
In this edition of Brave Talk three mystery guests share their stories as they've fought fiercely to overcome great obstacles of negative body image. From comfort eating to self loathing these ladies bravely share what most would keep under wraps. Listen in and be encouraged within your own journey as their victory can soon be yours as well.
Part of the tension of living in this Kingdom of the now and not yet means that we will encounter mystery. Sometimes we will experience troubles while at other moments we will experience incredible blessing. This simply doesn't mean that God chooses to change His mind or that He's a hopeless schizophrenic, but it reveals the true reality we find ourselves swept up into everyday.
In this weeks podcast, Viv, leads us through this present reality and how it has an affect on our prayers for healing and breakthrough. Hear from her years of experience and insight into why healing doesn't always happen even though Jesus has already provided for it.
One thing is for sure -- God is always good!
Healing was such an intrinsic part of Jesus' ministry on the Earth in His time. The gospel writers even felt it was so elementary to His persona and teachings that 1/5 of their written materials cover these events in detail.
This week Steve expounds on the unequivocal nature of God's heart towards healing. He not only teaches from a scriptural basis but from first hand experiences as well. As Jesus healed then, He surely heals now. Let your faith be restored as you hear story after story of God's goodness towards His people and His genuine hate for sickness and disease.
*Due to unforeseen technical difficulties our normal recording value was comprised. Apologies for the quality and the coughing. Please enjoy otherwise.
Jesus promised that in this life we would face troubles, and at times those troubles can seem almost insurmountable, but He also promised that He would never leave us or forsake us and that the battle is His.
From a place of extreme vulnerability, Georgia shares a personal story of how God met her right in the midst of her battle. Even in the face of potential loss she found that there was joy to be found and that Christ's victory was her victory. From this vantage point she could fight this battle and win. And from that very same vantage point we can in turn fight our battles as well!
Looking around us it doesn't take very long to recognize that the Earth is in a perpetual state of conflict: wars are being fought on multiple fronts; people are fighting for their lives amongst widespread disease, famine and poverty; racism, sexism, and religious oppression still run rampant in all manner of society, and drugs and gang violence continue to plague urban centers all over the planet.
What could be the cause of such evil? Could it be man's ever leaning towards power, greed, and hedonism or is there more to the story -- something else...something unseen.
Join us this week as Steve continues our sermon series on The Kingdom of God and explains the current reality we find ourselves in and the part we get to play amidst this Clash of the Kingdoms.
Baptism is something we are extremely enthusiastic about at BVC. We love seeing God's sons and daughters choose into His Son, Jesus through this outward expression of faith. But have you ever wondered why exactly we get baptised?
Join us this week as Terence explains the importance of baptism and the grand meaning behind this ancient ceremonial act. You'll find that it is way more than just a symbol!
God's desire for each and every one of us is that we would be fruitful in everything that we do. But with so many distractions vying for our attention and unhealthy mindsets detracting us from God's truth we often find ourselves caught up in emotional, mental, and spiritual blight.
Join in this week as Phil covers Jesus' Parable of the Soils and gives us a down to earth understanding of the passage and what Jesus intended for his listeners to take away from it about themselves as well as the Kingdom of God.
Living in a state of tension is not something that comes organically or comfortably to us. We like resolution. We want the antidote now!
But in this time between the Inauguration of the Kingdom of God and the Consummation of it we are stuck in the in-between. We are right smack dab in the middle of a war between conflicting kingdoms.
Jason Clark, Regional Leader over Vineyard London City Churches joins us for this thought provoking topic and challenges us on what bastard (illegitimate) kingdoms we might be casually aligning ourselves with.
Expect to be challenged, engaged, and moved to action. This is not a word to be missed!
At one point or another everyone has felt that feeling of being stuck in the in-between. Our vision is blurred, the end is nowhere in sight, and we can't quite remember why we've started on this road to begin with.
Continuing our series on The Kingdom of God, Karen hits home with with this message on the radical middle. As a kingdom people we are caught up in this tension of the now and the not yet. The kingdom is here but not yet in its fullness. We are made anew in Christ but the world around us is still broken and deteriorating.
Find out what this means for us in the 21st Century and how it's quite similar to what God communicated to the Israeli people over 2000 years ago through His prophets. We may find that the promise is better than we have even imagined or thought!
The Kingdom of God -- this golden thread sewn into the centerfold of the Bible is hinged on this one word: 'covenant'. From Genesis to Revelation we see this word played out and always with humanity on the breaking end of it. But God doesn't stop there. He continues to pursue us even though we break our side of the bargain time and time again. This is why we worship Him!
Tune in this week as Steve reminds us of this covenant keeping God that never stops pursuing us in love. As the Apostle John so poignantly points out, "We love because He first loved us". It's because of this love that we respond in turn with love and devotion, and it's because of this love that fear, worry, and anxiety all lose their power in the presence of our praise.

Phil's back! And this time with the second talk in our series on The Kingdom of God.
Picking up where Steve left off, Phil presents us with a brilliant summation of the kingdom from an Old Testament perspective. From the Exodus to the Davidic Rulership of Israel -- to the diaspora after the destruction of Jerusalem -- to Daniel's vision -- Phil gives us a more general outline of how the Kingdom has been increasingly winding up towards completion even though times and events have suggested otherwise.
Be encouraged as we are reminded that the Kingdom is here and is only heightening in its fullness as the time of the King draws near!
What is The Kingdom of God? What does it look like when it shows up? And why is it relevant to me? All of these questions and more Steve answers as he kickstarts our next series on The Kingdom of God.
Even more specifically, what happens to anxiety, worry, and fear when confronted with The Kingdom of God and its King?
Tune in to find out!
Guest speaker James Rankine brings us a controversial message about the Church and it's purpose in this hour. Reflecting on the book of Acts, he draws our attention to the desperation and willingness of the early church to do whatever it took to see the message of Christ made famous. They were, as he put it, fire carriers.
So what does it mean to be the church in this hour? And what does it look like to be a "fire carrier"? Tune in and hear for yourself and be moved to respond!
Money has to be one of the touchiest subjects for people. It's where many of us find our sense of security, power, or identity. It's no wonder Jesus spoke so prevalently about the subject. But should an inanimate object have such influence over our emotions, let alone our personal sense of identity?
Join Viv as she dives into this matter and shares heaven's design for our lives in regards to finances and how giving generously actually opens up the abundance of God's freedom and favor over our lives. Giving has and will always remain a privilege and a joy for the giver! This is what we're intended for!
There are often misconceptions wrapped around the idea of holiness. Some of us mistakenly equate it singularly with sexual purity while others of us take more of an Old Testament approach towards striving and behavioral management. Neither of these are of course correct. So then, what is true holiness, and what does it look like to walk it out in today's day and age?
This week guest speaker Charlie Arbuthnot demystifies and clarifies this often danced around subject. He provides scriptural and experiential teaching on what a lifestyle of holiness is in light of the cross; that it is more about resting and realizing than it is about striving and depriving.
Thank you for tuning in to this weeks podcast!
You'll notice that this weeks message is more interactive than usual. Please take advantage of this. Feel free to pray along or receive the particular prophetic words that are given. God can minister to you and even heal you through just tuning in.
So whether you find that you're heart is being stirred to intercede for London, or you have unsaved loved ones who need Jesus, or even one of these powerful words of knowledge have some personal application -- take time and receive. Let's get interactive!
One of the finer mysteries of spirituality is this element of prayer. Not only is it meant to be our greatest access point to God but it is also our main mode of enacting God's will upon the earth. But why prayer? Why is prayer the means he chooses to reconcile the world back to Himself through?
In this weeks podcast Hannah McLean aims to answer these questions as she gives us a fuller understanding behind the practice of intercessory prayer. She points all fingers in all directions back to the cross where Jesus provided the initial and only necessary source of intercession. Every prayer, every request, and every supplication is empowered through his act of mediation between God and man.
"...Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
For nearly two thousand years this statement along with its accompanying text have been sung, quoted, and recited by Christ's followers. What is it exactly about The Lord's Prayer that has drawn in it's reciters for generations? Why did Jesus specifically say what he did when giving this instructional teaching?
In a masterful attempt to answer these questions and more, Karen takes us on a comprehensive journey to break down and thoroughly understand what Christ intended when he iterated these famous words of scripture. Be refreshed. Be moved. And most importantly be re-connected with this passage as it applies to us here and now today.
In a society and time where intellectualism reigns supreme it's not always easy to tap into our emotions. If anything, we'd like to intellectualize them as well. But when looking at the Psalms we see a whole different take on emotional vulnerability and expression.
Viv once again takes us there as she breaks down Psalm 3 bit by bit, emotion by emotion and applies it to present day circumstances. Listen in as she gives us practical application with how to handle the feelings and senses we experience on a day to day basis by looking to God and loving others.
Righteousness: what is it? Why does it matter? What does God have to say about it? And how does being righteous affect the world around us?
Follow Steve as he discusses what true righteousness really is, how it runs hand in hand with social justice, and how it points to the truth of who we really are.
As you listen, feel free to engage in your own way. As we symbolically shredded our negative aspects of personality, find a way that you too can physically let go of something.
Continuing his sermonette "Jesus, Welcome to the Mess" from BVC's Carol Service, Steve brings us back to the reality that life is messy. 2017 was of course, no exception. Many of us faced challenges of many kinds and are semi-expectant that 2018 may offer us similar push-backs. But even in the midst of these trials and tests God is moving upon our behalves.
Listen in as Steve leads us through Psalm 27 and invites us to heed the words of the psalmist..."Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."
Be encouraged and be inspired as you hear story after story of what God has been doing in the lives of those who have come to call BVC their home.
And be reminded; God is in the details of our lives -- working all things out for our good.
For nearly three hundred years now, churches have practiced the tradition of assembling and lighting the Christingle. Symbolizing Christ as the Light of the World -- it reminds us of just how lost we are without him.
Join Steve as he revisits this meaningful yet slightly quirky tradition as he walks us through step by step what each part of the Christingle signifies. Feel free to assemble your own at home and be reminded of just how significant this time of year really is.
Happy Christmas!
Leading up to our January launch of the House of Prayer, Terence continues our Prayer Series with an emphasis on fostering an attitude of expectancy within our prayer lives.
Listen in and be encouraged as he breaks down biblical truths and passages about how Jesus teaches us to approach prayer and how it's his good pleasure to respond to those prayers.
As we continue this season of Advent leading up to the holidays may we also be swept up in eager anticipation for what God wants to do in our lives today!
Continuing his series on spiritual formation, Alexander confronts the dilemma between action and contemplation. How do we, in fact, remain a people of peace even in the midst of so much busyness? What does it mean to be a peacemaker in our community or through our vocation?
Follow Alex as he transparently speaks from his own struggles and reflects upon John 20: 19-21 & 1 Corinthians 3: 5-7. What is the balanced perspective God wants to impart?
"Lord, teach us to pray..."
This is the only recorded account within the gospels where the disciples out-rightly ask Jesus to teach them how to do something. With that type of singularity in mind it should certainly grab our attention, even stir in us the same response for the tutelage of Christ: Lord ,teach us to pray.
Steve pinpoints that the root of Jesus' power and unmatched wisdom stemmed from his active and abundant prayer life and that his disciples would've noticed this.
Like he did with his very own disciples, he draws us into a deeper and more meaningful prayer life with the Father.
What was it about the temple scene that pushed Jesus to the absolute limit? What set him off? Why was he so willing to risk his life all for the sake of prayer?
Viv takes us back to the temple courts of Jesus' day and walks us through what Jesus saw; the alienation, the discrimination, sexism, and exploitation. All of these things literal barriers put in place by the sinful hearts of men to keep people from the presence of God. And what Jesus saw were the very things he came to dismantle. He would do anything to ensure his brothers and sisters the privilege of his Father's presence.
Today, these very same concepts come to disconnect us from God, but Jesus made a way through the sacrifice of his body so that we might find ourselves within the Holy of Holies, face to face with our Father and Creator.
"My Father's house is a house of prayer for all nations..."
Most of us are all too familiar with the Parable of the Good Samaritan. But have we ever taken the time to break down the story and peer through the eyes of each character. It may surprise you just how much you and I are quite similar to the priest or the Levite.
Join Phil as he concludes his three part series on The Heart of Obedience and challenges us with brand new insight into one of the most renowned yet overlooked parable of the gospels.
Picking up where he left off, Alexander continues his series on personal spiritual formation. Through the ancient practice of lectio divina he inspires us to look and process scripture in a whole different way.
As you listen take the time to reflect on the presented passage in a peaceful place and hear what God is saying to you through the text. You'll notice the passage is read multiple times. See if something significant and altogether singular stands out to you each and every time.
If you sadly missed this past Sunday with us here's a chance for you to listen in. Hear the testimonies of Coco & Tabitha and be reminded and refortified in your faith by their compelling stories of God's pursuing love and redemptive power.
He is alive. And He is making all things new!
There are often unpleasant or uncomfortable realities that as people we'd like to pretend don't exist or have any such impact on our lives, but as followers of Christ and fellow human beings shouldn't we have something to say about such injustices happening all around us? Don't we have a redemptive role to play in all of this?
As Karen draws our gaze to the harsh reality of human slavery, she begs us with this same question. She kindly reminds us of God's feelings towards such evils and how we as his people get to be a part of his redemptive plan to change things.
Now that we've been made aware what are we going to do about it?
The poor and marginalized have always been a people close to the heart of God. Woven throughout scripture He commands his priests, his kings, and his people to tend to the helpless, the destitute, the orphans, and the widows -- those powerless in the wake of society.
In light of this what does it mean for us? How are we defending the rights of the poor and subsequently seeing their needs met?
Listen in as Steve delivers a message straight from the heart of God or better yet, the "gut" of God. Find out just where the word for compassion comes from and how that affects the way we minister to the world around us today.
Over the course of this year God has been faithfully involved in and through the people and ministries of BVC. Listen in to story after story of those He has healed, pursued, revealed Himself to, and championed in their faith.
This podcast is a tribute to the goodness of God more than anything else. It is singularly because of His goodness that BVC remains an efficacious and necessary instrument to and for the people of Balham, Greater London, and beyond.
There is still so much more to come!
For many the word 'fear' has mostly negative connotations, and it's no wonder believers have such a hard time conceptualizing why we're instructed hundreds of times in scripture to fear the Lord. Even so, this is what we as children of God have been designed for. And if He has designed us for such things then there must be a healthy approach to it all.
Join Viv as she lays out the true reality of what fearing God actually means and looks like, and how this holy fear has promises and benefits attached to it. By the end we may discover it has way more to do with God's goodness and holiness than anything else.
"The fear of the Lord is not the opposite of love. It's what love is about." -Viv Bateman
In a brilliant expose, Phil links satirical stories from his own life along with biblical teaching to translate the nature of the 'obedient heart'.
Through comprehensive teaching, Phil gives us a clear portrayal of what obedience practically looks like in 6 key areas of our lives -- all of which, bedrock themselves upon the linchpin of relationship. He holds true to the fact that true obedience comes out of a place of relationship and not out of empty servitude. As Jesus once spoke, "If you love me, you will keep my commands..."
"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give."
Echoing the words of Jesus, Steve reminds us of what we're packing as followers of Christ. Just as we have freely received from the bountiful depths of God's infinite power, we've also been commissioned to release that same power for the benefits of those around us.
Putting this into practice; Steve coaches us through the Biblical definition of words of knowledge and releases the congregation to participate with the Holy Spirit to give specific words and to pray over those those words are for.
As a listener, if you find that any words are applicable to you, receive them as your own. God is able and willing to heal you no matter your physical locale.
Finishing up our Summer in the Psalms series, Anna & Terence drive it home with an exposition on Psalm 91.
Taken from the point of view of a lover, they break down the declarative vows that God is, in fact, inviting us into a marriage type relationship where He gets to be the one that hides us, protects us, and satisfies us. Through classic American directness and vulnerability, they share from their own lives where self-sufficiency and trust in false messiahs has kept them at bay from experiencing the true fullness of their salvation through hearfelt openness and trust with Christ.
The awesome SP and Addison dive into Psalm 73 today unpacking how this Psalm impacts our lives today.
Phil finished our series on 'Born Identity' with a brilliantly visual and practical talk on how to walk out your identity and to keep putting on your true identity. Using some data on values, a powerpoint presentation, an easel and several T-shirts this was a powerful and inspiring sermon.
After two weeks away in Turkey, Steve brings us first-hand accounts of what it would've been like to visit 1st century Ephesus. We find that in many ways modern day London mirrors what Ephesus in Paul's day would've been like. And if Paul, one man, was able to turn a city upside-down with the gospel what does that mean for us? Can we also be a force for dramatic social change -- upsetting the forces of oppression in our land and beyond?
Wrapping up our series on Born Identity -- Hannah McLean dives into Paul's notable passage on spiritual warfare and the armor of God. She cleverly draws our attention to the reality that Jesus is, in fact, our armor, and when clothed with him, we are prepared to stand against the schemes of the enemy.
Charlie continued our series from Ephesians and gave a stunning talk of how we are to live out our born identity. We then wrote and nailed to the cross our sin, shame, past, pain and areas of unforgiveness, before taking communion together.
After a fun and exciting weekend away, Viv welcomes us back into our series on identity with a pair of fresh eyes. She eloquently unpacks Paul's prayer in Ephesians 3 -- drawing light to the omnipotent power of God which can do immeasurably more than all we ask or can even imagine.
