The Mission
On the occasion where He saved Zaccheus in Luke 19, Jesus proclaimed that the reason He had come was "to seek and save that which was lost." His was a rescue mission. As the apostle Paul put it in 1 Timothy 1:15, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." Our salvation, however, demanded that payment be made for our sins, which is why Jesus died on the cross. He paid the awful price for us, so that by believing and following after Him, we're able to receive forgiveness and eternal life.
That's the gospel. Sinful people may be reconciled to God, by His grace, through faith in His son Jesus. Now, as His people, believers have been charged with taking the good news to the world. "Go and make disciples of all the nations," Jesus said in Matthew 28:19, "baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." That command forms the heart of our mission at Heritage Church. We exist to preach and teach God's word, so that the unbelieving can hear, respond in faith, and receive salvation; and so that those already believing can heed the message and grow in grace and righteousness together in community with one another.

With His sacrifice only hours away, Jesus observed the Passover with His disciples.
One of them would be confronted as the betrayer.
Main idea:
As believers, we are called by our Lord to pursue and grow in personal holiness (sanctification). Moreover, our growth in sanctification fuels our worship. The two matters are linked. Neither truly occurs in the absence of the other. To worship truly, the Christian must pursue holiness: likewise, the pursuit of holiness fosters real worship.

“(Angels) are ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14). Today we will begin to examine the God-given ministry of angels to believers in Jesus.
Jesus condemns the scribes and Pharisees as false teachers who shut off the kingdom of heaven from people.
Jesus warns His disciples against the hypocrisy and spiritual pride of the scribes and Pharisees. Their vain attempt to exalt themselves reveals their self-idolatry, and will ultimately result in their being humbled by God. Disciples of Jesus, however, who live humbly and serve other in accord with His example will be exalted by Him.
