What a weekend it could have been, at least from a fans stand point. Both the Ryder and Laver cups concluded Sunday, but much to the disappointment of many, without the drama so many had looked forward to. Jimmy & Brett get into all the action that went down on the court and course. Indian Wells is finally happening! For the first time since the spring of 2019 tennis returns to the California desert. Even though many top names will not be there, it’s still a chance for a player to capture a Masters 1000 on the California hard courts. The 2021 US Open is in the books and boy was it a doozy! Jimmy and Brett talk about all the excitement that went down at Flushing Meadows in front of the New York fans. Two great story lines were constant through the two weeks of the final slam of the year, Djokovic's quest for the elusive grand slam, and the success of two very talented teen agers, Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez. Both did not disappoint as Novak had a chance in the finals but Daniil Medvedev was just to much in the end. Medvedev was finally able to break through and get his first major title after losing his 2 previous final attempts, one earlier this year to Djoker in Australia. And kind of shoves it in Brett's face after he called out the next gen on the last episode. On the ladies side it was a complete breathe of fresh air as two teenagers made the runs of a lifetime to meet in the finals, beating top players along the way. But Raducanu, in only her second major main draw ever was amazing, not dropping a set and having to come all the way through qualifying winning 10 matches on the way to the title. Fernandez, an AC favorite came up just a little short losing in the finals, but this should be a springboard to more success for her in the future. Patrick Cantlay took home the 15 million dollar first prize for winning the PGA's Playoff, the fed ex cup. Cantlay was the best player down the stretch the last few weeks of the season, and his steady nerves with the putter is what put him over the top. Jimmy wonders why there seems to be so many good American golfers having success, but not as many American mens tennis players with similar results. We check in on Jimmy's favorite tournament of all time the United States Open in Flushing Meadows, New York. Its the 30 year anniversary of Jimmy's SF run in 1991, the fellas go over some of the changes that have taken place at the event since then. With no Federer or Nadal in the mens draw it seems to be paving the way for Novak Djokovic to make his historic bid at the Grand Slam, he would be the first to do so since Rod Laver in the late 60's. Phil Mickelson shocked the golf world this past weekend coming out of no where to win the 103rd playing of the PGA Championships. The five time major champ had pretty much been written off as a serious contender on the regular tour, even though he had shown early success on the senior tour, winning 2 tourneys already. So that makes Phils improbable win at the windswept Ocean Course at Kiawah Island even that much more gratifying to watch. With so much talk about the younger generation taking over and 400 yard drives Phil won one for the older crew and boy was it fun to watch. Also cashing at a ridiculous 290-1 odds in Vegas. Jimmy talks about how he could relate a little with Phil in comparing it to his 1991 US Open run to the SFs in Flushing Meadows, NY. Overall a top live event to have watched on the couch at home, now we just wait for Tiger to come back and have his Ben Hogan moment to try and one up Phil!
Jimmy reminisces about spending time in one of his favorite cities in the world, Paris. While he didn't always see eye to eye with the French tennis federation, he always loved playing in front of the fans in Paris and spending time as well.

Thiem missing from the tournament it was wide open for someone new to break through and win a masters 1000. It seemed like it was setting up for podcast favorite Jannik Sinner to get that breakthrough win on the tour. But instead it was his good friend and doubles partner Hurkacz taking home his second title of the year. On the ladies side it was world #1 Ash Barty, who saved a match point earlier in the event beating Bianca Andreescu to defend her Miami title. Andreescu broke back onto the scene after battling injuries on and off for the last year plus, grinding out multiple three set thrillers in her run to the final.

With all the confusion that 2020 has brought the tennis world it seems like Roger Federer shutting it down for the rest of the year is the smartest thing he can do. He let it be known on his social media this week that he in fact had another surgery on his knee. The same knee as he was already missing time this year for.

Boxing legend Iron Mike Tyson joins Jimmy and Brett as the shows first guest, & what a guest he is. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1966, Tyson has had a successful career spanning over 40 years. Starting as a boxer in the 80's he became the youngest heavyweight champion of the world at age 20, a record that still stands today. He racked up 50 wins, 44 of them by knockout, and in the time since retiring has evolved into much more than a sports legend. A star of stage and screen, having appeared in major motion pictures, documentaries and even his own one-man show, "The Undisputed Truth". He is now a cannabis entrepreneur, having launched his own cannabis brand, Tyson Ranch. Listen as Jimmy and Mike compare notes on their journeys from humble beginnings in tough neighborhoods, all the way to the top of the sports world. Mike gives us his take on tennis and talks about how his 11 year old daughter Milan, has fallen in love with the sport.
