The Bug In Out Brain
We are at Week #3 of my workbook, 90 Days to Higher Self-Worth. I’m doing the daily exercises with you because I want to level up my life, and I need to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.
Week 3 is dedicated to developing motivation. Finding the motivation to go after a goal is second only to having the confidence to believe you can have the results of achieving a goal.
We all have motivation, but motivation is reduced to wishful and self-delusional thinking without action.
If I say to myself, “I want to lose weight,” but take no action to change my diet or modify my exercise routines to meet my goal of losing weight, I am daydreaming.
You see, motivation exists in everyone. The difference between those who use motivation as the fuel to get what they want is those who believe they are worthy of the goal.
Let’s consider my friend Kevin, who’s crazy about cacti. His Instagram page is called Crazy about Cactus. Kevin loves all things cacti and wanted to grow rare variants of cacti and sell them to his loving community. Kevin has the motivation to sell rare breeds of cacti but did not see how he could grow them without investing in a serious greenhouse. The thought of spending $1,000s on a hobby that might produce side hustle money was too far outside of his worthiness.
Kevin had the motivation to grow rare cacti but lacked the action - until he gained the confidence and belief that he was worthy of a beautiful greenhouse and the rare plants it would produce.
As soon as he took mental ownership of the greenhouse - the size, type, location, and cost - he could not find the motivation to make the dream a reality.
Kevin would say, “I just can’t find the motivation to work on my dream.”
One day, Kevin decided he wanted more than anything. He wrote a short success statement - just for the greenhouse - that included its type, location, and size. It went like this:
“My custom-built greenhouse is gorgeous! It is exactly what I needed to protect, grow and showcase my wonderful plants. The collaboration with NW Greenpanels was mutually beneficial, and I have influenced the Cactus & Succulent Community to consider them for their greenhouse builds. The build process was simple & smooth, and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the process. My plants have a beautiful home, and I am stoked!”
Kevin read this affirmation twice a day for 14 days when he discovered a way to pay for the greenhouse and get it installed. The doors that appeared to be closed earlier were now open, and he could see the path clearly to realizing his dream. 60 days later, they were pouring the foundation.
Motivation appears when you take mental ownership of the dream - as if it has already occurred. We naturally and effortlessly take action because we feel we deserve the outcome.
On this show, we break down Week #2 of the 90 Days to Higher Self-Worth daily workbook. I am doing the workbook with you, week by week. What I’ve learned is that self-worth can always be moved higher. As we transition in life, our goals change.
When my children were young, I was focused on providing a safe home, contributing to the family income, and being a great father. My purpose and mission changed as our kids grew up and moved out. I no longer have the demands of daily fatherhood, allowing me to explore other opportunities and dreams. Each season of life has different priorities, and we adjust to those changes by raising our self-worth to achieve the goals we want at that time in life.
Therefore, I need to walk the talk and discover my next barriers, so I am doing the 90 Days workbook with you.
This brings us to our topic of Week #2 - Confidence.
Confidence is ridiculously important to personal development. As a society, we are naturally drawn to highly confident people.
I’m not talking about boastful or ego-driven people, I’m talking about people who know they are worthy of a good life, believe in themselves, and have the mindset to pursue it.
This week, my friend Carlos called me and wanted career advice. He’s a recruiter of legal talent and finds the business tedious and unfulfilling. Carlos called me in despair - frustrated that he had wasted time and energy in the headhunting industry and was killing him.
I said to Carlos, “What would a confident person do?”
Carlos was quiet. I waited because I knew he knew the answer.
Finally, Carlos broke the silence and said, “A confident person would make a list of possible career opportunities and evaluate them.”
I said, “And then what would a confident person do?”
He said, “Probably run the list by friends I trust and get their input.”
“And then what?” I said.
He was quiet again. “I get it,” he said with a brighter tone and confidence.
“Carlos,” I said, “you know what to do. If you do not have the confidence to move forward, ask yourself what a person with confidence would do. We all know someone who is confident and believes in themselves. Ask yourself, what would they do?”
Carlos is not alone. He is like 1000s of women and men I know who know what to do but lack the confidence and self-worth to move forward.
Let’s take a minute to break down how confidence is built. Confidence has its roots in self-worth. At the base of confidence is the awareness that we are worthy of an outcome or goal. When we know we deserve the rewards of successfully achieving a goal, we naturally pursue the goal, because we deserve the rewards.
Taking mental ownership of the reward is the first step in building confidence. When I say, “I have a career I love, and it pays me well,” I imprint on my mind the positive higher self-worth necessary to take ownership of a great, well-paying career. Repeated over 90 days, my subconscious mind accepts the statement as real and repeats the confident language in my mind repeatedly, habitually, until it is real. This process builds confidence through developing language that supports forward motion and achievement.
Confidence is also built as the result of achieving goals. We write down the WINS from the prior day each day in the workbook. This practice puts us in the habit of winning, a habit most of us have never learned. The workbook helps us bring forward the positive higher self-worth emotions of confidence.
This week, write down three positive self-talk goals you want to accomplish. I want to change the language I use to describe myself, specifically as a writer. I want to change the emotions of “I am a poor writer” to “I am a good writer.” This is a simple change and important for me. Perhaps your changes are around meditation, exercise, or learning. Maybe it has to do with body image.
Be sure to write your self-talk language goals for Week 2.
I hope you find a place for this practice and develop a higher self-worth mindset. Keep the workbook nearby to add to the daily exercises as you go through the day.
As always, feel free to reach out and ask me questions at info@motiveforlife.com.
Be sure to pick up my first book, The Bug in our Brain, on Amazon, Kindle, and Audible.
Finally, thank you for your support and love.
In this podcast series, I dive into my new workbook - 90 Days to Higher Self-Worth. If you do not have the workbook, go to www.HigherSelfWorth.com and order it directly. You need the physical paperback workbook because it contains the exercises you use to raise your self-worth. You will write in the workbook throughout this podcast series, so having a Kindle or Audible version will not work. You must have the workbook.
Also, I highly recommend that you learn the theory and technology of self-worth by reading or listening to “The Bug In Our Brain,” available on Amazon, Kindle, and Audible. These are available at www.HigherSelfWorth.com. With both these resources, you will have a solid grasp of the methods and techniques I use to raise self-worth and achieve the life of your dreams.
Today, I kick off the series with Week 1 of 90 Days to Higher Self-Worth.
The workbook is divided into three sections. Each section is divided into weeks, and each week is divided into days. Each section, week, and the day has exercises and readings.
You must read from the workbook and do the exercises daily. The total time commitment is approximately 8 - 10 minutes per day. You can do the exercises in the morning (which is my personal preference), or you can spread them out over the morning. Do not postpone doing the exercises as the effects diminish later in the day.
If you forget to do your exercises, do not despair. Go to the workbook and pick up where you left off. Even if it has been a couple of days, pick up where you left off. It may take you 110 days to complete the exercises. The key to success is completing all 90 Days.
Assessment of Self-Worth
In this podcast, I introduce the Self-Worth Assessment. In the back of the workbook is a section called Assessment. The Assessment section offers you a simple method of grading your self-worth at this moment. Remember, you and only you determine self-worth. No one can tell you what your self-worth is, only you can grade and determine your self-worth. Using this tool, you’ll be able to grade your worthiness and use it as a reference when you complete the 90 Days.
Robert's back with a new book!

Raising our self-worth is the most important commitment we can make this year. When we raise our self-worth, we find more confidence and motivation to pursue our goals and move to the next level of our lives. Self-worth is the foundation, the roots of all advancement. Think about it - why would you pursue a goal if you didn't believe you deserved it? You wouldn't. Moreover, if you did attain a goal and found the experience undesirable, you would not work to keep the rewards of the goal.
High self-worth is the power to eliminate self-destructive behavior and negative self-talk. Using the simple practices outlined in this podcast, you change the foundational language and emotions about what you believe you are and why you matter. These change your decisions and actions to the positive, which leads to a much better life.

How we value ourselves plays such a critical role in what opportunities we pursue that it can hardly be overstated. Self-worth is an ever-changing pair of glasses that broadens or limits our view of the world, colors every life experience, and propels us to take action or grounds us in stagnation. Self-worth is the foundation of all our choices, all our reactions, and all our efforts. It’s the power that governs our abilities to overcome self-destructive behaviors. Self-worth is the key to our success and the saboteur of our plans.
We all feel from time to time like we are stuck in the mud and don't know how to get started back on the road of personal progress. Sometimes, we just want to do nothing and get away with it. However, it does not sit well with those of us who want to build and create. Procrastination is a curse that eats away at the most important asset we have - time! So, how do we deal with it?
In this podcast, Robert Christiansen confesses his difficulties with procrastination and self-sabotage when he is in the Red Zone. Learn how he gets out of it.

For years, I would go after my dreams, invest my time and money into a project, only to turn away when I was about to cross the finish line. It is seriously hard to find confidence in yourself when you self-destruct just before success.
However, that is not how it is today. Through the transformation of my self-worth, I've been able to reprogram my subconscious mind to change the negative self-sabotage language that caused me to turn away from success. No longer as I "almost somebody".

No one wants to be addicted to bad food - it is your right to feel good about your body and to feel good about being in your body. However, many people struggle with the bondage of bad eating habits, to the point of an unhealthy lifestyle. However, we can change our relationship with food and break the habitual behavior of eating crappy through the elevation of self-worth. When you feel you deserve a healthy body, you naturally change what you eat. All is connected and matters when developing a holistic view of life. Whether you want success in your career, money, or relationships, ignoring health, self-care, and recreation will result in unhappiness and self-destruction. Therefore, embracing all aspects of your life is fundamental to feeling good and being happy.
What we think about, we become. Therefore, we must change our thinking to what we want to become. Affirmations are very powerful phrases, when repeated, imprint on your brain what we want to become. Use this five-step process to build your own:
The key thing for all success is execution. And fear is the obstacle of execution. I love a Branson says about ideas, they're like buses, they come around every 10 minutes. However, execution is where it is at. And the power behind execution is worthiness. Worthiness is the juice to move us forward and get over the Obstacles of fear.
Whether you are an experienced meditator or just starting out, visualization is key to a successful life. When we "see the outcome" we are able to take actions that build towards success. Investing 10 minutes each morning visualizing what you want and how it feels to attain it is a very small price to pay for success. In this podcast, we present a simple but effective meditation to create your perfect day.
New Year Goal Setting - Using the Eight Life Category Model from Motive For Life, we take you through the step by step process to achieve the next level of success in all areas of your life. The categories are:
Through this process, you will have 24 - 40 goals for this next year. Then, using visualization techniques, imagine having already attained the goals.
Why do we give up the actions that got us success? Good routines are so important to achieving our goals. When we lose our ability to stay in our disciplines, to be consistent with the good actions we have - day in and day out - we suffer. Robert and Devon have come off their disciplines from time to time and they discuss how to get back to the center.
In this recording, The Gift is read slowly and is set to wonderful music. Repeat each phrase and internalize them, and make them your new foundation of worthiness. Listen in the car, while working out, on a walk, or as a meditation. All is good!
Robert and Devon dive into the world of archetypal astrology with their good friend Josh Hedaya. Unpacking and learning about how the position of the planets affects human psychology and the unfolding of events. Wonderful and enlightening, Josh discusses oneness, ancient cultures, and patterns in human behaviors.
How you show up in one thing is how you show up in all things. Taking the cart back is a key principle in Robert and Devon's lives (especially at Costco). They deconstruct the value of a principle and how it manifests in life. Cutting corners is the first step in lowing self-worth. The seeds you plant today will be the harvest your reap tomorrow. How we plant is key.
The overuse and under-appreciated power of "I'm Sorry" permeates our culture and has lost its value to heal relationships. Robert and Devon share how they eliminated the unnecessary use of "I'm Sorry" and elevated their self-worth by truly changing when change is needed.
"Do not apologize for who you are. Stand tall."
Robert shares his massive spiritual experience in this interview with Devon Wayt. This is uncut and unscripted - Robert does not know the questions and answers them without regard to a social or religious context. It is raw and as it happened.
Once the truth is heard, you cannot go back to who you were. Higher self-worth is the foundation of confidence, and confidence is the route to success - in any aspect of your life. Every advancement came because someone felt worthy of it - that a change needed to happen to make life better!
You are mandated to lift your worthiness. Your family and community needs you to lift your worthiness. When one person lifts their worthiness, the collective is lifted. And when the collective is lifted, the whole human race is lifted.
Your purpose - from today forward - is to lift the collective worthiness of everyone you meet.
Imagine it...what would life be like if everyone you meet wanted to lift your worthiness? How amazing would life be if your friends and family only wanted to see your happiness? Wow!
So, your mission is to lift worthiness. Go!
The drive to be successful can lead to low energy and a lack of motivation. Tapping your source of power is critical to getting back on track and moving to the next level of your life. Devon and Robert unpack their path to source and how to access their power.
Inspiration is the drawing upon imagination. Imagination is uniquely human and is the source of creativity. To be inspired is to be imaginative plus expression. The two go together - imagination without inspiration is daydreaming. Inspired individuals are in action - therefore, inspiration is also motivation.
Who would need inspiration?
Physically what can we do to get inspired?
Socially what can someone do to get inspired?
Personal Development
Devon and Robert turn inward and offer a number of tactics, based on higher self-worth, which leads to bigger and better jobs. Also, they discuss the Richest Man in Babylon, specifically around tithing and the relief of financial fear. Covered in this podcast:
We have all done it - opened our mouth when we should have kept it closed, taken action when we should have stayed put, engaged with that person who just doesn’t know when to shut up. There are times when we act and if given the chance, we would take it back.
We all have made mistakes. The trick is to not let the mistake hold up inside you and ruin your day, week, or even your life. And depending on the situation and your handling of the problem, you could actually make it worse.
Here's how Devon and Robert handle their mistake:
Procrastination is one of the most common problems we hear about. People want to find the motivation and confidence to move forward with their goals and dreams. However, they are often stuck in a pattern of distractions that end up wasting time.
In this podcast, Devon and I explore ways to get out of procrastination and find the motivation to go for your dreams.
Change your thoughts, change your life. Just about everyone wants to change something about themselves. Whether it is health, relationships, or money, we are rarely satisfied with the status quo - we want to expand into the next and better version of ourselves.
It all starts with a thought. Every action we take is preceded by a thought. We are conditioned to think a certain way, and that conditioning leads to a set of behaviors we may like or may find disagreeable. Therefore, our thinking is what must change first. Trying to change our behavior, before thinking, is a waste of time. Because if you do not get to the first cause - our thinking - you will not make permanent and positive change.
Here are the steps you can take to take control of your thoughts, and your actions.

Two guys talking about self-worth. Topics for this week's podcast, Devon and Robert discuss:
Everything you need to be successful already exists within you. By learning to identify what you don't want so you can focus on the things you do want. This is critical - knowing what you do and don't want. These both exist inside you now. It is up to you to decide what you put your attention to.
A plan without a specific goal is worthless. If we do not decide what we want, down to very specific details, we will not attain any meaningful levels of success. We have to have specifics to make real progress on any plan. In this podcast, Robert discusses making plans for change during this COVID crisis. And the most important action you can take is to define what you want.
These are difficult times. We've lost our ability to engage socially - at least in a way that fulfills our basic social needs. Robert lets out his frustrations about COVID shelter-in-place, his disconnection from his social circles, and what actions he is taking to level him.

Robert and Devon discuss the need to observe and control their thinking as the primary way to live a better life. Better thinking results in better decisions and better decisions turn into a better life. When you're able to witness and catch negative thinking, you're able to change the direction of your thoughts and your life.

We enter the world pre-programmed for survival. Along the journey of life, we receive new programs and training from multiple sources that enable us to grow and succeed. Sometimes, the programming we receive gets in the way of our success and we must take action to remove the old programs and adopt new ones.
In this great podcast, Devon and Robert break down the types of old programs we want to delete and discuss how to reprogram our minds to get what we want. Meditation, mantras, and clearing of our small and big traumas really works to change our thinking.
In this great discussion, Robert and Devon pull apart the strange behaviors of self-destruction. At work and in our personal lives, we see people do stupid things and wonder how they cannot see that their actions are holding them back. Robert and Devon offer some simple but effective ideas to help catch ourselves before we do something stupid.
The Science of Getting Rich There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.
A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.
I can form things in my thought, and by impressing my thought upon formless substance can cause the thing I think about to be created.
In order to do this, I must pass from the competitive to the creative mind; otherwise, I cannot be in harmony with the Formless Intelligence, which is always creative and never competitive in spirit.
I am in full harmony with the Formless Substance by entertaining lively and sincere gratitude for the blessings it bestows upon me. Gratitude unifies my mind with the intelligence of Substance so that my thoughts are received by the Formless. I can remain upon the creative plane only by uniting myself with the Formless Intelligence through a deep and continuous feeling of gratitude.
I have formed a clear and definite mental image of the things I wish to have, to do, or to become; and I must hold this mental image in my thoughts while being deeply grateful to the Supreme that all my desires are granted to me. I must spend my leisure hours in contemplating my Vision, and in earnest thanksgiving that the reality is being given to me.
In order to receive my own when it shall come to me, I must be active; and this activity can only consist in more than filling my present place. I must keep in mind the Purpose to get rich through the realization of my mental image. And I must do, every day, all that can be done that day, taking care to do each act in a successful manner. I must give to every man a use value in excess of the cash value he receives so that each transaction makes for more life, and I must so hold the Advancing Thought that the impression of increase will be communicated to all with whom I come in contact.
I will certainly get rich; and the riches I receive will be in exact proportion to the definiteness of my vision, the fixity of my purpose, the steadiness of my faith, and the depth of my gratitude.
Your boundaries at work are continually moving, shaped by the people, environment, and your career. Your self-worth comes through when you establish boundaries. They are the indicator of your worthiness because they signal to others what behaviors you're willing to tolerate. Robert and Devon discuss how to navigate this difficult topic in the engaging podcast.
Robert and Devon discuss the power of self-worth and how it controls every aspect of what you want and whether or not you keep what you attain. Worthiness is the driver of success. If you don't feel worthy of the results of success, you will never get there, and even worse, you will destroy the success you gain.
Devon and Robert riff on our need to redefine our minds. Self-worth is at the center of attainment, and unless you are actively redefining the language, images, and emotions in our brains, we struggle to get what we want. Redefinition, or reframing our thinking, is the key to raising our worthiness.
Letting go of what others think is hard. In this episode, Robert and Devon press into the uncomfortable and try to break free of the internal dialog of criticism and regret. When we let go of "what others think" we are free to fully express our true self and live in our true gifts.
