This week I began reading Will Smith's New book titled "Will" From the first chapter there a concept of laying 1 perfect brick he heard from his father that has stayed with him through his life and career. Having to build a brick wall as a young child and just being overwhelmed and a child that just wants to go play and not spend all summer building this wall. His father came up to him once and told him Not to focus on the wall. You just have to lay 1 perfect brick, then you grab another and lay another perfect brick. It is just like focusing on 1 step and not being overwhelmed by your gigantic goals for life. Just taking 1 step towards them today.

Creativity can be used in many ways. One special way is helping us deal with loss and to process our thoughts. When someone we love is lost we have a whirlwind of emotions going through our minds and hitting us hard. The way I personally handle these times is to reach for my creativity. I sculpt and I spend time with some clay and surrounded by pictures of my loved ones and the memories we had together. It is a time to talk and to let out any emotions that come up and just throw it towards the clay or the paper or whatever you are using. It is its own therapy for me.

Next up is crafting your very own personal Frankenstein. Now this topic is one I have discussed a few times in the past, but it is such a strong and important one. Each of us is constantly growing and adding new skills and new pieces to ourselves. We are adding both good pieces that become a part of us as well as not so good pieces that can infect us and change us. This fun little exercise is understanding and building our own little Frankenstein faces and seeing if there are any parts of ourselves that maybe we should be paying attention to or cutting out.

To me this means that there is a fire in your heart that is your passion and there is nobody but you that can blow it out. Finding your balance - Do you have balance in your life and do you find it a constant battle to keep it? Welcome to life, this is something that I have personally struggled with and even though it isn't perfect and I do not expect it to be I have found a better balance than I had before. Balance itself will stay from one side to other anyway. When you balance on one foot you are constantly strengthening those muscles to help keep you balanced as you sway back and forth. In this video I will share what I have learned through a story while I sculpt a lady justice character to symbolize balance.

Have you felt or heard that demon on your shoulder that whispers horrible thoughts into your ear? On this weeks episode I will share with you that monster and how to fight back and stay focused on overcoming him. Do you consider yourself creative? Do you tell yourself "I am not creative"? I believe that each and every one of us has creativity somewhere within. We were born with that spark and it flourished when we were children. Growing up however, a lot of people have lost their connection to their inner child and the creativity that comes with it. Now it is suppressed and becoming toxic or an infection bottling up within them. Here I will share with you that we are all creative and how to tap into it.

Here is a fun little sketch I created this morning. A little creature and monster I like to call my inconsistency demon. Even though I was not happy with the overall design, I was happy with taking the step and getting up and starting my day with creativity.

Pushing through Barriers
Are you enjoying your creativity?
Are you having fun creating?
Awesome! But what if you are getting stuck?
After you get into the flow of being creative there will be times where you hit some roadblocks or barriers. Sometimes they are early on with you do not know where to start. Sometimes you lose interest or get lost right after you get started. You start blocking it in and you don’t see the image right away.
When this happens just take a deep breath and push through. Keep going and keep in mind that this is suppose to be fun and you are enduring a learning experience. What happens if this piece turns out horrible? If you had fun it doesn’t matter. And if you learn something, Even better!
I have found that with a lot of artists including myself that we get to a point where we just hate it or lose interest. And that point is right before the pieces metamorphosis. Like a point where a painting looks muddy and then the artists adds a few highlights and the piece just comes to life.
So when this happens just remember to have fun and make yourself work through it for another 30 min. Early on when i was doing sketches I had a problem with losing interest soon and not finishing. I forced myself to do 3 hour studies. One of them I did not like after 45 minutes, i didn’t care for the expression or the character, but I knew I had to stick with it for another 2 hours. So what i did was find the things i liked about it and got rid of the things i didn't like about it. Because i forced myself to do that i created an interesting character that i would have never come up with normally.
Push through and enjoy the process. Learn and have fun

NO, I won’t like it!
You never tried it! How do you know?
People are always so quick to dismiss the unknown or the things that are unfamiliar to them.
Sometimes they don't believe in themselves.
Sometimes they don't know where to start.
Sometimes they just have not seen a subject strong enough to get them interested.
Well, follow me this year as I start digging hard and deep into my creativity. I will be sharing it all with you. Sometimes I will be sculpting, but I will also try to get back into sketching and scribbling at times to free up my mind. Even some coloring pages to switch things up. Maybe some airbrush sketching and whatever pops into my mind.
Give things a shot, then decide if you like it.

I don’t have the time!
What? Do you think that everyone else was given a different calendar? Do you think somehow you were gypped and have less than 24 hours in your day?
First, we are all given the same number of hours each and every day. Now i know that we all have different priorities, but that's all about the choices we make and some of them do not allow creative or personal time. Some of us have multiple jobs and kids and housework. Others have a 9-5 day job and then sit in front of the TV to wind down until bed. The key is to make your personal time a priority, even if you can only squeeze in 20 minutes a day. The choices you make are yours and you decide what is important, don’t complain you don’t have enough time.
Second, I will be sharing that you do not have to spend a lot of time on these creative tasks and challenges. Mine I like to do 30-45 min, but you can knock something fun out in just a few minutes a day. What if you spent 5 minutes just relaxing with yourself and coloring a picture to release. Would that help your mindset for the day? You bet it would!

I can’t even draw a stick figure!
So what! Why does everybody go to that old worn out answer? I didn’t ask you to draw a stick figure. I asked if you wanted to get creative. You can color or draw whatever you want. If you don’t like stick figures then draw a tiger!
Stick figures are boring anyway do something more interesting. Just start moving your hand and see what comes out. It does not need to be perfect. It does not have to be beautiful. You just have to be you and have fun with it!

Consistency
This one right here is a big one. It even tried to swallow me up this year!
So many plans and ideas trying to plan and figure myself out this year and i started to slip. Here i was trying to do a video every week to eliminate the excuses everyone has. And here we are 4 weeks in and i think i have 1 uploaded. Really Brian? That’s horrible.
My solution is to give myself grace and give myself understand because i have noticed it and i will push to do better. That is going to be the biggest win for you. Do not just forgive yourself! Or else you may slip even more because you know that all you have to do is say I’m sorry and move on. Make sure that you hold yourself accountable, but also don’t beat yourself up about it. Make sure that you understand what you did and stand up to your future self to try to constantly improve. Do not just allow it and say i will try to do better tomorrow.
Go out there and get consistent with your craft and enjoy it. Whether it is 5 min a day with a coloring page or 1 hour a day with clay or a pencil. Have fun with it.

I am not the creative type!
I have heard this one more times than I can count. You may say that, but then you start giving me all kinds of creative excuses about why you are not creative. It’s funny to me, because later in that same conversation you will talk about how you like to relax and color in a coloring book.

Three weekends ago I attended a Tony Robbins Unleash the Power Within event and this past week I continued to review my notes. Now while there was a ton of top-notch amazing content and information. The experience and feeling was easily the best part of the event! Allow me to explain. This event was just over 50 hours over the course of 4 days. Due to those times and the long days I went with minimum sleep. With only a few scheduled breaks and me not wanting to miss information I went with minimum food and a lot of water. I arrived at the event early and stayed for 10-15 hours a day, I walked over hot coals, I met tons of new people, I jumped and danced and shouted most of the day. This is one of those topics I always see people all over the place with. Do you view yourself as successful in your current state or place in life? Or do you need to have this thing, or that position, or make a certain amount of money? I always tell people that I meet if they are measuring with the latter that it can crush and hinder them from moving forward and growing.
