In the summer of 2025, at Football in Berkshire's request, Chris Lambert of Burghfield Uncommon wrote and performed a song in tribute of the act of Devonshiring.

The term "You've been Devonshired" related to the Maidenhead United managers knack for his unfashionable part-time side to regularly surprise and disappoint famous old Football League sides who dropped into the National League.

The most famous being to spoil new Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney first visit to watch the Dragons in the UK - Maidenhead winning 3-2. The absolute gall of the man.

With 'Dev' stepping down at the weekend, we thought it only right we should publish the song on our Spotify channel.

You've Been Devonshired was recorded live at the Berkshire Football Awards 2025 at Double-Barrelled Brewery in Reading.

More details on Alan Devonshire's final game here.

Welcome to a slightly different Football in Berkshire podcast.

This weekend (Sunday 27th July) is the inaugural PLAION Launchpad Berkshire 5s, a charity five-aside competition raising money for Launchpad, Reading’s homelessness charity.

We have been sponsored by Plaion, a worldwide video games distributor with a UK office in Theale and we say a huge thank you to them for putting up the funds to get the tournament on.

To celebrate, we've recorded a short series of podcasts asking some of our friends in non-league football to pick their five-aside teams. This second episode is Devonn Reid, manager of Westwood Wanderers.

If you enjoy the episode, please consider making a donation to Launchpad, which you can do at donate.launchpadreading.org.uk

Football in Berkshire is proud to launch ‘Hitting The Road’, a celebration of community football in the Royal County.

Taking a hint from the brilliant East Berks Football League’s regular SHOWCASE games, the FiB team will be picking a game or two each season across the men’s and women’s season as a ‘Hitting The Road’ event, and we’d love you to come and join us.

As a trial run, we thought where better than Reading YMCA – winners of the 2024 Berkshire Football Awards Matchday Experience trophy – to host our first Hitting The Road event.

The Thames Valley Premier League side play out at Padworth Village Hall off the A4 Bath Road near Reading and will face AFC Winkfield.

Entry is usually free – and will remain so – but Football in Berkshire will be producing a limited edition matchday programme – which can be purchased in advance – to mark the event with a few words from our special guest, Paul Watson.

Paul kindly hosted the Berkshire Football Awards in 2024 but will be most well known as a panellist on Guardian Football Weekly, co-host of The Sweeper podcast and author of the brilliant football book ‘Up Pohnpei!’.

Join Tom Canning on a very very special episode of Berkshire Football Stories (why very very special? It has almost nothing to do with Berkshire) as he chats to writer and niche football enthusiast Paul Watson

Joining Tom in the host chair is reigning Berkshire's women's footballer of the year, Futsal star for Southampton Aztecs and sometimes BT Sport Futsal pundit Alicia Povey for a lovely chat about Futsal, how Paul is bringing it to the Federated States of Micronesia as a way to build inter-island competition (the sequel to his excellent book 'Up Pohnpei'?) and some truly wonderful looking shirts that have been produced for the four Islands: Pohnpei, Kosrae, Chuuk and Yap.

You can buy Paul's book 'Up Pohnpei' here. Details on the Futsal shirts here: https://twitter.com/paul_c_watson/status/1638602249982058510

For most people the 2nd February 2011 was a normal working day. But for the supporters of Windsor & Eton FC it was the day our club died.

That was one of the final sentences in Michael Gegg’s book ‘Wearing The Red & Green’, a complete history of Windsor & Eton Football Club 1892 - 2011.

This is the story of that day.

A Football in Berkshire / Berkshire Football Stories special podcast for #WindsorMonth hosted by Tom Canning, with sprecial guest Michael Gegg.
