Day 26
Scripture Meditation: Isaiah 9:6-7
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Action Steps:
Day 25
Scripture Meditation: “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For,
“Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.”—1 Peter 3:9-14
Action Steps:
Sometime today, or as soon as you’re able, ask your family one of these questions.
Day 24
Scripture Meditation: Luke 2:8-14
“And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
Action Steps:
Sometime today, or as soon as you’re able, ask your family one of these questions:
You’ll also want to start planning today for your time together on Sunday. Remember, this all started with Sundays (or Saturdays) being an opportunity to slow down and enter into a different rhythm (Sabbath). This Sunday will be the culmination and reflection of all the weeks and days so far. If peace is something we have to work toward, our own homes are a great place to start. So here’s what you’ll need to begin to prepare.
Plan a meal that allows time for a longer discussion (approx. 2-3 hrs.). Below is a basic outline of how your Saturday meal/discussion time could go. (Don’t worry we will give you a more detailed plan on Saturday.)
In order for the God of peace to rule over our lives we must first put ourselves in a posture to receive His peace. Here are four key shifts you can begin to make to be in the right posture:

Day 23
Scripture Meditation: Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Action Steps:
Sometime today, or as soon as you’re able, ask your family some of these questions.
This episode is a reading from a resource by Axis ministries called "A Parents Guide to Depression & Anxiety". You can read the PDF by clicking HERE.
Discussion Questions:
Day 19
Scripture Meditation: Ephesians 5:1-2
“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Action Steps:
Sometime today, or as soon as you’re able, ask your family one of these questions.
What’s one thing our family could do to show love to someone? (Prioritize this one—we’ll say more about it tomorrow)
Day 18
Scripture Meditation: Psalm 139
Action Steps:
Sometime today, or as soon as you’re able, ask your family one of these questions.
Day 17
Scripture Meditation: Hebrews 12:1-2
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Action Steps:
To put living self-sacrificially into practice, we want to encourage you to find an opportunity to serve others this weekend. Is there a soup kitchen, retirement home, rescue mission, or food bank near you at which your family can volunteer to serve others? Find a way soon to serve a local organization. If it’s not possible because of COVID-19, brainstorm as a family a way you can live self-sacrificially and serve others. We recommend not giving money to someone on the corner. Instead find a way to support local organizations that truly know how to help people in need.
Day 16
Scripture Meditation: Matthew 16:24-26
“Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?”
Action Steps:
Sometime today, or as soon as you’re able, ask your family one of these questions.
This episode is a reading from a resource by Axis ministries called "A Parents Guide to The 12 Days Of Christmas". You can read the PDF by clicking HERE.
Discussion Questions:
Do you like celebrating Christmas? Why or why not?
• If you could change how we celebrate, what would you change?
• What does the birth of Jesus represent or signify to you?
• Does it feel wrong or indulgent to celebrate Christmas with big feasts
and gifts and parties? Why or why not?
• Why do you think the Christmas period comes after the somber time
of Advent?
• Which parts of our modern Christmas traditions do you think enhance
the meaning of it? Which parts do you think take away from it?
• What should we do if we don’t feel like celebrating and feasting this
year?
• Why do you think we didn’t listen to Christmas music until Christmas
Day this year? Did you like or not like that? Why?
• What have you learned from celebrating the different parts of Christmas?
• Why do you think the Christian calendar is organized the way it is?
• How can we become more generous with other people this Christmas
season?
Day 12
Scripture Meditation: John 10:7-10
“So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
Action Steps:
As soon as you’re able, discuss the following as a family:
Day 11
Scripture Meditation: Philippians 4:11-13 11 “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
**Action Steps:
"**We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased." -C.S. Lewis
As soon as you’re able, read C.S. Lewis’ words above to your family and ask them what they think it means. Then openly discuss the following:
Day 10

Parents, I know that it’s hard talking to your teenagers about tough issues in life, and intentionally discipling them in the ways of the Lord. As a youth pastor, I’ve heard story after story of rebellious teenagers who are selfish and lack communication and respect. But I’ve also seen some parents who can learn to grow in patience, humility, and conflict. This is why we’re hosting an event called “Come Together”.
"Come Together" is an event for parents and teenagers to come together and talk about important issues in the family. The presentations will cover issues like, social media, family legacy, sex, drugs, reading the Bible, and redeeming relationships with the hope of Jesus.
This event aims to help families talk about growing in a relationship with Jesus together while navigating the tough waters of culture, relationships, and family conflict. It's happening on Saturday, May 4th at Fortress Church from 9am-2pm. Tickets are just $10 which includes your lunch and workbook.
Here are some of the sessions we will be discussing:
Jesus' First Words
*Why kids need their parents, why parents need their kids, and family legacy.
Alone Together
*How social media, TV, movies, and video games shape us as individuals and as families.
Sex, Drugs, College & Jesus
*How pop culture can shape our values, and how its vision contrasts with Jesus’ vision.
How To Read The Bible Like The Devil
*All the ways we tend to misread scripture, and how to properly apply it to our lives.
Hope For Families
*Where our hope comes from, and how to repair and redeem our relationships.
Jesus' Last Words
*The ultimate hope of Christianity, and how that informs the way we live as families.
Also, since this is on May the 4th, it will be Star Wars themed, so bring your Star Wars apparel and take pictures at the Star Wars photo booth!
