JAPA:  (Meaning) Verb A Nigerian slang used by someone looking to emigrate to a different country. Eg. I will Japa to the U.S. after my stay at the University. Japa originates from two Yoruba words Ja which means to run and Pa which is used to exaggerate any verb in Yoruba language.

On this episode, I have an open conversation with Okechukwu on his experiences as a Nigerian lawyer working in the UK. Okechukwu is a Nigerian lawyer, working with a leading law firm in London, UK. He graduated with a First Class LLB from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria, where he was awarded the University’s Senate Scholarship for three consecutive years due to his outstanding academic performance. He also holds an LLM from the University of Cambridge and is admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Okechukwu shares his thoughts and experiences emigrating from Nigeria to the UK. Specifically, he talks about the academic route, the difference in work culture and opportunities for professionals looking to emigrate to the UK. We also shared a few laughs in between:).
