Slam Education is committed to enhancing school operations, reducing administrative burdens, and fostering lifelong learning. Initially, the organization gained recognition through SLAM Academy, pioneering STEM programs in collaboration with the University of Newcastle, Cisco, and schools in the Hunter Valley. These initiatives provided hands-on STEM experiences for students and professional learning programs for educators.

About Shelley Waldon
Shelley started her career as a geochemist, working in the mining industry for 4 years with BHP and for the Victorian government as an Environmental Scientist for 6 years. After this she undertook postgraduate teaching qualifications to work in both the primary and secondary sectors.
Have worked in Catholic education in Melbourne for 25 years in a variety of roles and educational settings. These include classroom teaching, specialist teaching, curriculum leader and Catholic placed teacher in extension education at Zoos Victoria. Also extended post-graduate learning with a Master of Education, Graduate Certificates in Assessment and STEM Education and additional qualifications in business management, leadership and risk management.
Within Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools, major responsibilities have been supporting schools and working with teachers to devise and develop resources and professional learning opportunities that enhance science learning across the curriculum.
In collaboration with our teachers, cultural organisations and expert providers, we develop learning opportunities and partnerships that improve teachers' core content knowledge in science, whilst developing pedagogical models that improve understanding by enabling the application of scientific conceptual knowledge in the context of multidisciplinary projects.
Acted as Primary Investigator for MACS in a 4-year ARC Linkage Research Project (with Monash Uni, BCE, and UQ) researching problem-based learning through STEM education. Using problems as the drivers for student engagement and motivation with the curriculum and exploring teachers' attitudes, beliefs and pedagogical practices as they participated as co-researchers.
In 2018 initiated STEM MAD, which has become a flagship program in Melbourne and a national program in dioceses across Australia, and continues to demonstrate scientific learning, where students use STEM projects to Make a Difference (MAD) to others and the environment.

Imagine hosting a running event for over 40,000 athletes and making it sustainable? That's exactly what the TCS Sydney Marathon goIT Challenge was designed to do where students from across NSW were challenged to create innovative solutions for the TCS Sydney Marathon through a design thinking process. About the TCS Sydney Marathon goIT Challenge
With a growing number of athletes and spectators participating in the TCS Sydney Marathon from around the globe and across Australia, school-aged students were challenged to develop a creative solution to ensure that the TCS Sydney Marathon is one of the most environmentally sustainable events of its kind in the world. Run in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education, students collaborated in teams to complete a four-week design sprint. The end result was a three-minute video pitch showcasing how the solution will help make the TCS Sydney Marathon a model of sustainability.

Food Ladder grew from a kernel of an idea by founders Alex Shead and Kelly McJannett.
Alex was determined to use business to create social change. As a social change specialist, Kelly saw kids struggling to concentrate in class because they were hungry and understood the macro impact of food security. By joining forces, they found a way to combine agricultural technology and teaching systems to create lasting social change.

West Australian high school payloads to space! Find out about the BinarX Outreach Program which connects West Australian high school students with the Binar Space Program at Curtin University. We catch up with Outreach Program Coordinator Meg Berry and Ahla & Shivani from Bob Hawke College to learn more about theBinar 2-3-4 in early August!

About the BinarX Outreach Program
The BinarX program sees West Australian students design and prototype science payloads for the Binar cubesat, and then build those projects for launch on-orbit with the Binar Space Program at Curtin University.
Payload concepts are directed by students and teachers & may include sensors to study earth and space environment, samples for testing in microgravity, or samples for testing in a vacuum. They may also include a software-only payload running on Binar’s flight computer.
Students will access their results using amateur band radio, either at Curtin or through other ground stations participating in the open source SatNOGS network.
As part of the program, students and teachers will also construct and operate their own SatNOGS ground station to gain a better understanding of radio communications and contribute back to the SatNOGS community.
As the program progresses, BinarX will guide teachers and students through obtaining radio licenses and installing amateur radio equipment in their schools. This will allow them to communicate with their satellite payload directly, and connect with the rest of the global amateur satellite community.
The program is currently at capacity for the 2024-2026 Student Payload Development Program, but please register your interest for future opportunities with the program!
Launch details for Binar 2-3-4!
If you’re in Perth, WA, please register to join us at our in-person launch event this weekend! Binar 2-3-4 are scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral, FL on board SpaceX Falcon 9 CRS NG-2 at 23:28PM AWST, so the in-person event may be to watch the livestream of the docking with the International Space Station the
afternoon of August 4th, 2024. (but please follow the socials for updates as launch times can change at the last minute!). Anyone, anywhere can watch the livestream of the launch carrying the next 3 cube sats to space!

Within her own community, Meg is actively involved as a coach and judge in FIRST® LEGO® League, which is a LEGO® robotics “co-opertition” that inspires innovation and fosters well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership in students. With a background in graphic design and project management, Meg brings a unique creative angle to the BinarX Outreach Program. Having worked extensively in public artwork and signage manufacturing, she understands the power of visual storytelling in conveying complex ideas to diverse audiences. About Kate Kennedy White
Kate is an accredited Philosophy teacher trainer in Australia (FAPSA) and the United Kingdom (SAPERE), the Associate Director, Centre for Critical Thinking and Ethics at Newington College, and a dedicated philosophy teacher K-6. Previously, she was an award-winning children’s television creator. Her specialised training includes a residency at the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children (IAPC) at Montclair University, New Jersey, and an intensive course in The Art of Questioning at the Institut of Philosophy Practice in France. She has presented papers in Vancouver, Seattle, Cape Town, London, Auckland and Wellington and is one of the lead authors in the 2018 Routledge publication Philosophy in Australia.
In 2014 she was awarded the NSW Premier’s Early Childhood Scholarship to study introducing P4C in the early childhood years (3-6) and presents courses for Early Childhood professionals in P4C for this age group.
In 2023 Kate was awarded the Outstanding Professional Service Award by the Institute for Educational Leadership in Australia in recognition of her voluntary work for the Philosophy in Schools Association NSW.

About David Crisante
David Crisante is a communications and comedy expert who trains others on more impactful communication styles. He founded the Sydney Comedy School and Future Science Talks – which runs Australia’s only government-funded Science Comedy Program for scientists. Each year he trains thousands of people on how to be more effective when on stage and giving presentations.
David ran media and communication teams within science and health organisations for over five years. Prior to this, he was in diplomacy and international crisis response for Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He specialised in the response to MH370, the Syrian War and was a political speechwriter for the Foreign Minister.
David started his career as a journalist for seven years, where he was a reporter for the ABC and SBS, as well as an international correspondent in Tokyo for two years, where he specialised in reporting on the nuclear disaster of 2011.
In 2024, David has featured in seven festivals including the Adelaide Fringe, Sydney Comedy Festival, Brisbane Comedy Festival, Darwin Fringe, Melbourne

About the Maths Inside Project (2015-2018).
This project was funded for 1.9 million dollars by the Australian Maths and Science Partnership Program (Federal Government). Dr Coupland was co-leader with Associate Professor Anne Prescott at UTS. The collaborative project with CSIRO and AAMT produced curriculum materials highlighting the role of mathematics in science. The materials, videos of scientists with related classroom activities, are freely available and used in many Australian schools. An accompanying research project indicated that Maths Inside was successful in raising student interest in studying mathematics, and improving teacher awareness of the importance of mathematics in addressing current real-world issues.

About Dr Mary Coupland
Dr Mary Coupland is an Associate Professor in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at UTS. Mary specialises in mathematics education, specifically in first year university mathematics, data literacy, and professional development for teachers of mathematics. She has been a consultant in mathematics curriculum development for NESA and ACARA, and an examiner for the HSC General Mathematics examinations. She is a member of the Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia (MERGA); Life Member and President, (2010-2011), Mathematical Association of NSW; President, (2014-2015), Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers. For her work in mathematics education, she was awarded the Professional Teachers Association’s Outstanding Contribution Award in 2012 and the Exceptional Service Award in 2020

About UTS Mentor Science+ Science Extension
HSC Students are challenged to examine a scientific research question influenced by the study of one or more of the scientific disciplines.
Uniquely for this HSC subject, students will produce a detailed scientific research report that reflects the standards generally required for publication in a scientific journal.
Science Extension lays a foundation for students to pursue further study in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) based courses offered at the tertiary level, and to engage in new and emerging industries.
UTS works with schools to place students together with mentors to do real scientific research.

About Dr Lisa Cabral
Lisa completed her undergraduate degree Bachelor of Science in 1989 at The Flinders University of SA, completed her PhD in 2003 at UNSW and completed her Graduate Diploma of Education in 2014. Lisa is an experienced researcher/educator, with 12 years teaching undergraduate, honours and PhD students in the School of Medicine at the University of New South Wales, 9 years teaching with CSIRO’s Scientists in Schools partnership, 4 years as a Medical Ethics tutor to First- and Second-Year Medicine students and 9 years experience teaching Science to secondary school students. She has a strong partnership with the Science Teachers Association of NSW (STANSW), being a presenter and convenor for STANSW Meet the Marker Conferences and Professional Learning Communities and is currently editor of the journal Science Education News. Lisa is excited to be leading and delivering teaching activities within the Faculty of Science HSC Mentor Science+ Science Extension program to foster and build relationships with NSW High School Science communities.

About Dr. Colleen Kelley
Dr. Colleen Kelley is the Creator and Founder of Kids’ Chemical Solutions which is a comic-book-based curriculum for kids ages 8 – 108. Her journey as a chemist began at The University of Richmond where she received her B.S. in Chemistry. She fell in love with the world of discovery and research and wanted to continue to explore more chemistry, so she completed her Ph.D. in chemistry at Penn State University at the age of 24.
Fast forward 30 years later to the tail-end of her career teaching chemistry at the University of Arizona, Colleen finds herself captivated by the question, “Why do my students think chemistry is SO hard?” What she has discovered is that learning chemistry is very much like learning how to read and she created the term Molecular Literacy to describe how chemistry is best understood.

About Professor Kirsten Benkendorff
There’s evidence that people can be happier and healthier if they regularly eat seafood. However, we can’t produce healthy seafood if we don’t look after our estuaries and oceans.
Kirsten is a Professor of Marine Science and loves inspiring students with my passion for marine biodiversity. She mentors students in evidence-based research and leads multi-disciplinary teams investigating the value and vulnerability of marine resources. Her research focuses on the nutritional and medicinal properties of marine species and how these are impacted by a range of environmental stressors, including climate change and pollution. To date, her research teams have produced over 150 scientific papers.
Kirsten works with the fisheries and aquaculture industry, government agencies, traditional owners and community groups to find solutions to environmental problems. Her contributions to science have been recognised in several awards including Young Australian of the Year for Science and Technology
and the Australian Academy of Science Dorothy Hill Award for marine and earth science. She is hoping her ongoing research will influence policies on water quality management and pesticide regulation, in order to keep our seafood safe and healthy.
She is keen to collaborate and connect with the community to share her knowledge. So, look her up if you want to learn more about marine biodiversity and what we need to do to protect it!

About Dr Anurika De Silva
Anurika is an early career biostatistician working towards the advancement of Public Health at the Methods and Implementation Support for Clinical and Health (MISCH) research Hub, University of Melbourne. Having obtained a BSc in Industrial Statistics from the University of Colombo (Sri Lanka) and a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Melbourne, Anurika now enjoys using maths and stats to help doctors find best treatments for patients. She currently leads a research program focused on developing novel and robust statistical methods for clinical research.
Anurika has fostered and led strong clinical and statistical collaborations in multidisciplinary teams from national and international institutes and she frequently delivers seminars and workshops on statistical methods to health practitioners. Enthusiastic about teaching and much loved by her students, Anurika supervises PhD and Master students and is also the coordinator for the Master of Public Health subject on Biostatistics at the University of Melbourne with >300 students.
Having loved maths since a young age, Anurika is one of Science & Technology Australia’s Superstars of STEM, is passionate about encouraging the next generation into STEM study and careers and advocating for gender diversity in STEM.

Robert is the Education and Outreach Manager for CSIRO's Astronomy and Space Science (CASS). He develops educational programs and materials to support students, teachers and the public in their understanding of astronomy. Part of his role is to write online educational resources in astronomy and in particular the radio astronomy and other work carried out by CASS. He runs professional development for teachers, gives presentations to teacher groups and schools and coordinates a speaker program of CASS researchers for schools and community groups. Post-graduation in 2017, she continued as a postdoctoral researcher in Tasmania alongside branching out into fields of public outreach, geoscience communication and diversity initiatives. About Sally Hurst
Growing up on a farm where the closest city was over an hour away made the road to STEM careers and becoming a palaeontologist a little difficult. So, after finding her passion for the past through her work experience at the National Dinosaur Museum in Canberra, Sally moved to Sydney to find a university where she could indeed study dinosaurs.
Sally completed her Bachelors at Macquarie University in Palaeobiology, and Ancient Egyptian Archaeology, and is now completing her Masters of Research in Science. While learning about the past has been a highlight, Sally’s favourite job is being able to get others just as excited about science and palaeontology, this encouraged through her role as a science communicator at the Australian Museum, and as a mentor for young rural girls through various scholarship and coaching programs. Sally would love to become the passionate role model in STEM for other young girls that she never had growing up.

About the Australian Science Olympiads
The Australian Science Olympiad Exams are challenging but rewarding online exams held once a year in the following disciplines:
- Junior (for Year 7 – 10)
- Physics
- Biology
- Earth and Environmental Science
- Chemistry
All students who wish to be considered for stage two and three of the program must sit the exam. Students may sit more than one exam.
Following the completion of the exams, students may be offered a place in our pathway programs. All programs are invitation-only.

About Dr Graham Walker
Dr Graham Walker is a science communication teacher, researcher and practitioner based at the National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (CPAS) at the Australian National University, where he convenes Postgraduate Coursework. He works at the interface of science communication and informal STEM learning, capacity building and co-development, emotion and motivation, and communication of social and environmental issues, particularly in informal learning contexts like science centres, science shows and hands-on workshops.
Graham has been involved in science communication capacity building throughout the Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East since 2003. He founded Science Circus Africa which, through dynamic partnerships with African organisations, has trained more than 500 staff and reached 73,000 people in 10 African countries, and more recently the DFAT-supported Science Circus Pacific. About Debra Hettleman
Debra launched Building STEPS with the purpose of creating a college pathway for underrepresented students to become STEM professionals. Today, she oversees all aspects of this Baltimore not for profit from developing and maintaining corporate and institutional partners to advising the Board on creating and implementing growth strategies.
Over 23 years, Debra has grown Building STEPS from three school partnerships serving 16 students to fifteen high school partnerships serving nearly 150 high school students and 200 college students annually. More than 80% of Building STEPS students earn college degrees. Creating networking and professional development programs, Building STEPS Young Professional Council, made up of all Building STEPS Alumni, advances community engagement and opportunities for peer-to-peer connections. Debra is a graduate of the Greater Baltimore Committee’s The Leadership, has been honored by the Baltimore Business Journal as Maryland’s Top 100 Women and is recognized by Baltimore Magazine as a Baltimore Game Changer. Outside of work, Debra can be found hiking the trails or kayaking the waters of Maryland’s parks.

About Mattew Sloan
Matt has been a scientist and educator for 20 years in universities, research institutes and museums. He got a PhD in genetics in 2008 at Vienna University and has applied his research in the fields of cancer, epigenetics, evolutionary biology and wildlife conservation. This has involved fulfilling work like finding the cause of a person’s cancer and fun stuff like getting DNA out of wombat hair, chimpanzee poo and aphid eggs!
Matt completed a Bachelor of Teaching in 2014 and from 2016-2021 he worked in the education team at the Australian Museum. There he designed and delivered programs and digital resources for schools. He is continuing his passion for learning at the Australian National Maritime Museum where he is the acting Head of Education. With Sydney Harbour at our doorstep, it’s an awesome place to learn about our connection to our waterways.
About Anna Gregory
Anna Gregory has worked in museums across Sydney and regional NSW. She is a trained high school French and Geography teacher. She currently works as the Lifelong Learning Officer in the Education team at the Australian National Maritime Museum. In this role she has co-ordinated a training course for staff and volunteers at regional maritime museums; she organises events for the public and teachers; and she has designed programs for people with dementia.

Jason works at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium as the Programs Manager for Virtual Learning, where he designs, develops, and delivers education lessons and collaboratively produces live events for audiences of all ages. He is also the technical director forthe award-winning SEA Trek virtual learning programs and multimedia producer for free SEA Show content.
He is a certified Florida Master Naturalist and Instructor and serves as the Central West representative on the FMNP advisory board. In addition to FMNP, he also lead Endless Oceans, Mote's lifelong learning program. Jason is a board member of the Florida Marine Science Educators Association and a FMSEA/FWC Aquatic Species Collection Workshop instructor. He is a member of the National Association of Interpretation and the Children's Media Association. In 2022, he joined the advisory board for the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration. Prior to Mote, Jason worked in public television and in environmental project management for the state of Florida.

Michaela has also taught maths at schools in rural and urban areas, served as President of the Mathematical Association of Victoria and on the Council of the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers. She has also completed Masters research and presented internationally on the intent of the mathematics curriculum.

Adam Low is the Director of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Upward Bound Program and the director of T3 Alaska. He is a science and technology educator with a passion for involving students in community engagement projects. Adam has extensive experience developing and supporting curricula to connect STEM technologies and service-learning as part of both the T3 Alliance and Modern Blanket Toss National Science Foundations grants. He has worked as a teacher in a makerspace, supported an online school based on cultural and environmental learning in Hawaii, taught at the high school and collegiate levels in Alaska, and worked as a professional geologist. In 2008 Adam was named science teacher of the year for the state of Alaska.

About Dr Stuart Kohlhagen
Stuart helped pioneer Questacon's exhibit development, science demonstrations and shows over a period 35 years. He as part of the original group that established the internationally renowned Science circus, and worked on the transformation of the original Questacon into the National Science and Technology centre. His passions are for simple, open-ended hands-on exhibits, and inquiry-based activities that provide learning opportunities. He has been active in capacity development programs for science centre staff and educators in South Africa, Lesotho, Indonesia, Korea, Brunei, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, as well as lead a number of international workshops and master classes in exhibit development.
In recent years he has been able to conceive develop and implement and realize a range of significant outdoor exhibits and public sculptures. He has also been leading the development and delivery of a range of teacher professional development programs within Australia and internationally.

H. is Co-Founder and Executive Director of San Diego Squared (SD2.org), a nonprofit focused in increasing diversity in STEM-driven companies through partnerships, programs, and financial support for high school students, college students, and their educators. Prior to starting SD2,H. served on the leadership team at CONNECT where he founded CONNECT ALL @ the Jacobs Center – the region’s first diversity-focused startup accelerator and business resource centre. To date, H. has raised over $6M to increase diversity in tech and the life sciences.
Prior to his work in diversity and inclusion, H. drove marketing at a venture-backed Bay area startup, worked as a management consultant in London, and served as regional director for an international non-profit. H. holds a master’s degree from The London School of Economics and a bachelor’s degree from George Mason University.

STEM, STEAM, Make, Dream (International Center for Leadership in Education, HMH / January 7, 2022) by Christopher Emdin, explores the ways that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics can transform young people’s lives through learning. This includes reimagining our collective relationship to STEM by presenting it as more accepting and accessible than previously acknowledged. To help all children claim their STEM identity, the book provides educators, policymakers, and community leaders with tangible ways to honour culture, increase equity, and encourage curiosity.
Christopher Emdin, Ph.D., is the Robert A. Naslund Endowed Chair in Curriculum Theory and Professor of Education at the University of Southern California; where he also serves as Director of youth engagement and community partnerships at the USC Race and Equity Center. He previously served as Director of the Science Education program at Teachers College, Columbia University and alumni fellow at the Hip-hop archive and Hutchins Center at Harvard University. The creator of the #HipHopEd social media movement and Science Genius B.A.T.T.L.E.S., Emdin was named the 2015 Multicultural Educator of the Year by the National Association of Multicultural Educators and has been honoured as a STEM Access Champion of Change by the White House. As a former teacher and police officer, Owen has experience in the education system as well as the emergency services. He have worked across independent and government schools in metropolitan and rural Victoria, teaching across Prep to Year 12, in English, Humanities, and VCAL. He has always been passionate about student wellbeing and developing educational programs that have a tangible impact on the local community. When not in the office you’ll find Owen working on the family farm in central Victoria with his partner and dog, out for a long run, or in the shed woodworking.

Shawtima mentioned using Tango as a tool for making instructables for team members and also violently threatens her team members. But then Shawtima dives deeply into some teacher wellbeing strategies. It’s not always the big moments and stunt work that counts.
If we can work on the simple unsexy stuff then maybe we can have a more sustainable worklife. Also, Pete says he’s fine, just fine… too many times for it to be believable.
On a positive note, Shawtima explains some excellent tools for people with Anxiety that Pete has 100% been using since then and it totally has helped.

About Susan Marie Frontczak
Susan Marie Frontczak is a Colorado-based scholar, playwright & performer. Through storysmith.org she has created and performed Living History portrayals of six historical women across 42 of the United States and abroad. She presents at theatres, conferences, schools, libraries, and festivals internationally — including performing Manya: The Living History of Marie Curie and A Visit with Marie Curie over 450 times to 60,000 people in 34 states and nine countries.
In dramatizing the life of Marie Skłodowska Curie, Susan Marie pays homage to their shared Polish heritage. Marie Curie’s perseverance in purifying a tenth of a gram of radium from a ton of pitchblende, in part, inspired Susan Marie to major in Engineering. She earned a B.S. in Engineering from Swarthmore College and a Masters in Software Engineering from the Wang Institute of Graduate Studies, and worked for fourteen years at Hewlett-Packard Company before pursuing full time writing and performing.

As founder of Imaginaturalists, Gillian wishes to inspire a love of science in children by engaging them with creative expression and experiential learning. Gillian graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Science (Honours). She has worked as a research assistant in several marine biology laboratories at the Universities of Sydney, Murdoch, and Western Australia until she was lucky enough to travel to Casey Station, Antarctica with the Australian Antarctic Division's Human Impacts Team as a Research Assistant. She then completed an Honours thesis " Reproduction and the Evolution of Development in Abatus sp., Marsupiate Echinoids Endemic to Antarctica. After moving to Maitland, NSW she leapt at the opportunity to combine her two passions, science, and art. She undertook a Bachelor of Natural History Illustration at the University of Newcastle, graduating in 2018, with Distinction and being awarded a Faculty Medal for The Faculty of Education and Arts in 2018. She has been commissioned to undertake public artworks around Maitland, including a 55m long Australian birds’ mural at the Maitland City Library. Her illustrations have been published in botanical books and scientific papers and theses.
Gillian believes art is the language of science! Without the visual communication provided by illustrations and graphics, scientific concepts are often very complex to understand. Through Imaginaturalists she encourages children to utilise their powers of observation and gives them the skills to express these through fun and creative means. She inspires her students to stop, slow down and look at the world around them. Imaginaturalists introduces them to the building blocks of scientific enquiry with fun, creative, practical cross-curricular learning that continues to increase their confidence in all aspects of their education.

A senior lecturer and Group Leader in the School of Biomedical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering & IT (FEIT) at UTS, Joshua’s innovative research focuses on developing different biological tools to understand cellular and disease mechanotransduction. He is a Charlie Teo Fellow, with a two-year grant to use space biology to disable some of the hardest cancers to fight, including brain cancer.
Joshua was awarded the Australia Space Award Researcher of the Year in 2020 and was a 2021 finalist for the UTS Chancellor’s Medal for Research Excellence for his work leveraging the unique properties of microgravity in space to understand physical properties of the living cell and their impact in health and disease. Joshua also is the driving force behind the Chou Collective, a multidisciplinary and highly skilled team of students from FEIT and the Faculty of Science at UTS. The Collective works at the interface of biology, tissue engineering, biomedical engineering and materials science to develop novel solutions in the treatment and understanding of diseases.

Godwyn Morris is the Director of two programs in New York City, Dazzling Discoveries, a STEAM education center for grade school-age children, and Skill Mill NYC a maker space and digital fabrication studio for adults and teens. She is also the inventor of Dazzlinks Cardboard Engineering kits and co-creator of Engineering with Paper, downloadable packets. Godwyn has been working and creating with educators and children for more than 20 years. She is an advocate of making, mixing, trying, testing and playing, all with the aim of teaching creative thinking and problem-solving skills to kids and adults. She works with hundreds of students and teachers every year in classes, camps and professional development workshops. Her expertise is helping educators bridge the gap between teaching content and expanding hands-on exploration.

About Dr Scott Sleap
Dr Scott Sleap led the development of the STEM Industry School Partnerships program for the NSW Department of Education in 2017. He is currently a STEM Project Adviser for the Educational Standards Directorate, where he is responsible for the coordination of the program. Regarded as a visionary educator he was the first Technology teacher to win the prestigious Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence for Secondary Science Teaching. In 2020 Dr Sleap was again recognised with a National Commonwealth Bank Teaching Fellowship. Previously he was awarded the title of National Teacher of the Year by the Australian Design and Technology Teachers Association (DATTA) and was inducted as one of only three national DATTA patrons. In 2019 he was appointed as a Cyber Security Ambassador for the NSW Cyber Security Innovation Node.

Scarlett's masters focus is looking at genetics for investigating biodiversity and using bioinformatics tools and genetic analysis for management of invasive deer populations in Australia. In addition, she has a fascination with space sciences and conduct volunteer research projects with her team at S.A.A.S Missions at the Australian Centre of Astrobiology. SAAS Missions is a team comprising of undergraduate and postgraduate students, founded at UNSW by Scarlett in 2018 and has student members from all over Sydney. The team’s goal is to conduct research projects of biological systems in space, with a large focus on hands-on, self- taught education through conducting independent research as students collaborate from a variety of fields including computer science, engineers, ecology, medical sciences, business and more. In addition, S.A.A.S Mission conducts STEAM outreach and education workshops to students around Australia and collaborates with scientists and educators around the globe!
