Al also returns later in the program with SPORT DE JOUR - a look at everything "sport." Michael Godin from Treasure Island Oldies stops by at the top of the hour with ROCK AND ROLL NEWS and James Murphy, all the way from Cambridge England, provides listeners with spectacular "choons" during his MISSING IN ACTION segment heard at the 25 minute mark of the first hour of the show. Yours truly, Big Daddy fills in all the gaps with light banter and awesome music. Radio Action - ROCK, ROLL AND REMEMBER is a program of mostly music that will keep you rocking and rolling - a fast paced two hours of some of the greatest hits of all time. Friends: Back in July, 1967, local radio C-FUN 1410 ran an amazing program where they featured the top 300 tunes that we were playing on our radios throughout the '60's up to that time. They called it SOUND-A-THON and we knew it would be fun to recreate that epic bit of history with a RADIO ACTION SOUND TRACK OF THE SIXTIES verson of SOUND-A-THON 1967.
We programmed the whole series over 15 weeks, playing 20 tunes weekly in descending order from 300 all the way down to #1. Here is the THIRD installment of this series of programs.

In compiling these programs we use the archived surveys from radio C-FUN 1410 - one of the AM blow torches located here in Vancouver and blasting rock and roll up and down the west coast of Canada from it's unique position on the dial. At times, the signal from C-FUN could be heard as far away as HAWAII.

Friends: It is a long weekend holiday Monday here in Canada. So I am celebrating by taking a road trip in the motor home to the end of the driveway. I should have just enough gas for the round trip from where I park it in the back yard.
All kidding aside, it is nice to see fuel prices beginning to come down below the $1.90 threshold. I actually pine for the days of $1.50 gas and that was high at the time.

Friends: Happy Wednesday. If you were in Canada, I do hope you had an enjoyable long weekend. We finally got some nice weather so I spent it mostly doing landscaping in the back yard. We had some drain tile work done and a rather large trench had to be dug right across my back lawn - needless to say, where there was once grass, there is now dirt.

Friends: Finally Friday and another day for some great flashbacks. SOUND TRACK OF THE SIXTIES is the place for musical memories - the place where we count down the top 20 tunes that were on our radios back in the '60's.
Today we look at June 4, 1966 - my Mom's birthday. I had been out of high school for one year and was working for a typewriter repair company trying to earn enough money to pay for an advancement to my education. And in the shop, we had either C-FUN or CKLG on the radio all day long, so all these tunes were a huge part of my history.

Friends: Here is the third episode of programming we did for RADIO MAX in Anshan China back in 2013. None of these programs were published on this or any other site so you are hearing them as they were presented to the listening audience of CNCE - 99.9FM in Anshan, China.
Here is another excerpt from my short story, MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH RADIO published back in 2019 on my blog. The whole story can be found here: radioaction100.blogspot.com
After the station went dark, we continued to share programming with many who had signed up to an email shout out group so our work was still being heard by many.
One more story about Radio Action and Radio MAX. College students loved our shows and would do anything to hear them. So when Radio MAX went dark, a group of students built a couple of transmitters inside backpacks so they could set up and transmit from remote locations.
Usually what they would do was to get up on the roof of an apartment building that one of the students lived in. They would set up and begin broadcasting, all the while, being on the lookout for the authorities.
The authorities, once spotted heading for their building, gave the students ample time to shut down the system and to hop an elevator down to the floor on which one of them lived. They were never caught as this little enterprise kept on the move.
People would leave their radios tuned to 99.9 and endure the static, just so they would not miss one of these broadcasts.
Fun times.

Friends: Saturday evening went off WITH a hitch. Daughter Stephanie is now Mrs. Colin Ronning. A wonderful time was had by all including this old softy. I rarely let my emotions get the better of me, but watching our daughter looking so radiant and beautiful turned me to mush.
They are now off on a well deserved honeymoon.

Friends: Here it is, the last day of January 2022. For those who are following it, thousands of disgruntled Canadians converged on our nation's capital over the weekend calling for an end to Covid mandates and all that entails Regional protests also occurred including a huge gathering outside the provincial capital buildings here in BC. What will become of all of this? Time will tell.
Meanwhile we turn to the Monday edition of ROCK, ROLL AND REMEMBER to kick off another week.
