MAROONED - THE PLAY was staged at Red Rock Regional Theatre and Gallery Cororooke on the 7th February 2020.
Today we revisit where it as, and its theme, suicide prevention, with Michael Gray Griffiths, the author, and actor, Rohana Hayes.

Lifeline Direct Geelong & South West Victoria Region are fast tracking and digitalising training in response to great need in our community. With the Summer Bushfires closely followed by the COVID-19 pandemic - Lifeline's 13 11 14 Crisis Support Service has never been more in demand. To meet this demand locally, Lifeline Direct Geelong & South West Victoria is fast tracking its Crisis Support training program to increase those available to take calls. This new training will be delivered online.
The new hybrid training program will incorporate online learning components and video conferencing. The new program will equip Crisis Supporters to be able to provide phone support within 4 weeks. The first of the fast-tracked training courses is set to begin in June and those interested in taking part in this intake will need to register their interest by May 25th.

Daniel Witthaus has spent the past two decades challenging homophobia one cuppa at a time in schools, rural communities and, occasionally, developing countries like Sri Lanka, Poland and Indonesia. He is the author of Beyond Priscilla: one gay man, one gay truck, one big idea... (2014), Beyond 'That's So Gay!': Challenging homophobia in Australian schools (2010) and the Pride & Prejudice educational package (2002, 2012) - which won three Tasmanian schools Human Rights Week awards.

Tim Lowe has a yarn about his book "Church Burning" which is being launched here in Colac at Cow Lick bookshop at 6.00pm on the 19th February.
Tim is a G.P. and has worked in war-torn Belfast, in Australia as an isolated rural G.P., still works in Aboriginal health, was in Colac for 10 years, then with drug addicts in St Kilda from 2013-2017.
He started writing following some traumatic experiences during this time.
His work in St Kilda was during the time that Royal Commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse was reporting, where he witnessed how this traumatised victims first hand.

Today we learn much about Cooinda Terang Inc. from Sharon Lock, their Day Program Co-ordinator, and three of their wonderful participants in Brodie Cook, Celia Nash, and Denise Madden.
Cooinda was established as the Terang and District Retarded Children's Centre, after a public meeting on 24th September 1954. The name "Cooinda" chosen as it means "a happy place". Initially using the Church of England hall, 9 children were enrolled. Cooinda has now grown to an organisation which employs 85 staff, supporting approximately 70 participants offering day programs, independent living and residential support.

Michelle Hamblin who is a Breast Care Nurse with the McGrath Foundation, was in to promote "Pinking Up Colac."
Pink Up Your Town is an incredible fundraising activity that calls for an entire town to 'pink up' - not only to raise funds to support our specialist McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurses, but to create a visual show of support for local families experiencing breast cancer. Their main fundraising night is on Saturday 2nd of November at the Lake Bowls Club. It starts at 7pm, there's a grazing platter, canapés, music by The Runaways, auction including a McGrath shirt and Renegades Shirt and lots of amazing raffle prizes.

We remember the Vietnam War (1962 - 1975) and the 60,000 soldiers, men and women, who served Australia in that war.
Over 15,000 were national Servicemen, and according to Google, of the 521 young Aussies who died defending our nation, 200 were Nashos, as they were called. The motto of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia is: "Honour the dead but fight like hell for the living".

Deans Marsh community's 'Purple' Deb facilitated community artwork shops in the lead up to the Dean's Marsh Festival to create a forest of standing sticks that hold stories exploring a sense of place and belonging.
Deb created an installation at the Deans Marsh Festival, and people who came to the festival either shared or created their own story and decorated sticks throughout the day.
We talk about this as a way to health and wellbeing, among other bits...

Graham's involvement in Vietnam was at the Battles at Fire Support Bases Coral and Balmoral - Australia's most protracted and costly battles of the Vietnam War.

Edwina and I chatted with Christopher Patterson, a Community Engagement and Aboriginal Inclusion Coordinator with The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP).

Today's program is about Colac Area Health's Youth Health Hub and its many programs. We chatted with Carolyn (Caz) Cole, who is a Community Health Nurse at the Youth Health Hub, and a couple young people who were going to play "live" in the studio, but..., Saul Kavenagh & Connor Knight.
They will be performing at the Birregurra festival in Oct & Battle of the bands, which is still in the planning phase for the end of the year. They are looking for sponsors for the latter.
