Vader is gone. The voice of Vader, James Earl Jones passed early in the month and it is by far the most newsworthy item on the list for this episode of This is the Way Podcast's Star Wars News Update. Jones is a legend and his work and the awards given speak to that. He will be missed, but remember, thanks to an agreement he made a few years back, his iconic voice can still be heard.

Though the news of his passing loomed large, the amount of news notes is small in September. There's a small gaming note and perhaps even smaller one for collectors. There isn't even a Disney Parks segment this month, but instead a note about a rewards program for Disney that is sunsetting in December.

The Acolyte will not get a second season. It's not the kind of thing to rejoice about, except...it is a little. Common sense and good content don't matter as much as actual money to business people that bankroll television shows and giving Leslye Headland $180 million turns out to be exactly the kind of mistake critics had been saying since news started leaking about the direction the show would take Star Wars. It's not really that Lucasfilm WANTS to admit it. They just accept it. If only some fans would...

Yeah, that's right. Calling out the real toxic fans is now okay after having to deal with accusations of racism and misogyny and all the other distractions that liberal loonies love to lambast the (now very clear) majority. That's right. Most people didn't care for The Acolyte. One can only hope this is the last podcast that needs to address it and HQ is thankful that The Rings of Power isn't Star Wars content, because it's literally the only other show that compares to the level of incompetency that somehow got paid to create content.

There IS good news, or at least hope. December will see the release of Skeleton Crew and then 2025 will bring us Andor's second (and final) season. Sure, The Mandalorian and Grogu movie is coming, but the only other real big note from D23 in 2024 was some stuff about Hollywood Studios that might indirectly affect Star Wars in that park.

K2-SO and Darth Maul for collectors and Outlaws for gamers makes August a pretty slow news month, but perhaps a palate cleanse is what's needed here.

The summer of Star Wars is coming to a close now that The Acolyte's first and so far only season is also complete. You will have to go elsewhere for full coverage because this podcast decided if there's nothing nice to say, we better not say anything. Kind of like politics these days...

Next up is probably Skeleton Crew, then Andor's second (and final) season, and The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. There's no earth shaking announcements out of San Diego Comic Con, at least on the visual media side of Lucasfilm.

Gamers, collectors, Disney World parkgoers all have a note or two this month and Outlaws looks like it will feature prominently in the next news update podcast.

May 2024 comes to a close and This is the Way Podcast wraps up another month with another Star Wars news update podcast. The Bad Batch is done. The Acolyte is about to debut. Skeleton Crew has the same initials as "Santa Claus" and Tohan Lege is not that hard to say, especially if you're Stephen Stanton.

Hot Toys are expensive. The toy Dejarik table is about as hard to get as a real one right now. Oh, and if you haven't played LEGO Fortnite, it's FREE TO PLAY, if you didn't know, and it has lightsabers and thermal detonators and Rebel and Imperial buildings and characters!

It's another very special episode of This is the Way Podcast. Make sure there's a tape in the recorder and you have the correct channel on the VCR.

Two years ago it was my dad. Last year, my oldest daughter. This year, my youngest. "May the Fourth be with you" this year as the "baby" of the family gets a chance to speak her mind about Star Wars.

Don't expect a marathon of an episode. The purpose isn't to exhaust the listeners with the host's own children, but to share how Star Wars is thought about in the home. Like the elder sister, death and dying aren't favorite parts, but surprise, surprise, royalty is where it's at for her. Oh, did we mention the Taylor Swift reference? Someone's teacher apparently likes to "shake it off" in the classroom and spread her fandom to the family.

As mentioned last year (5/4/23), there are no trick questions, but because we're using one microphone for two speakers, the editor did have to get creative with a few clips in order to hide as many of the sound level changes as possible.

The April 2024 Star Wars news update episode stars off with a "my bad" as a result of constructive listener feedback. That's not a joke or a set up for a punch line. I have become overtly negative in my criticism of The Acolyte. I'm not suggesting there's reasons for me to be positive, but the old adage about not saying anything at all if you can't say something nice does have merit here. Why turn off potential listeners who disagree by laughing and expressing my hope for failure?

March 2024's news update episode is available just before the end of the month, but it's Easter weekend, so it might be a slight gamble that something big doesn't come from Lucasfilm or Disney this weekend, but not as big a risk as The Acolyte action figures getting announced before anyone knows what kind of show it will be. Even the "Holocomm" collectibles seem a safer bet, but then again, it doesn't get much better than Darth Vader.

Wait a second...are we LEADING the notes with collectibles? Yes. Oh, we are well aware The Acolyte released a trailer, but anything by Leslye Headland is "wait and see" because of her unproven track record and factual statements voluntarily given about her past and Star Wars in general. We don't have high hopes for the next live action Star Wars show, but we reserve judgment until actually seeing it.

A reminder for Disney Parks news, a tidbit about a game company that kept plugging along after firings more than decimated a co-developer, the death of a casting agent, and a chance to see Star Wars in the theater, once again. Yeah, this definitely qualifies as a news update podcast.

It's that time once again!

StarWarsPodcastDay2024 and This is the Way Podcast is observing it with a background episode on the host. This episode was commissioned for Star Wars Podcast Day 2024 which this year is being observed by a record number of podcasts (more than 100 for the second year in a row). It happens yearly on February 7th, which commemorates the first Star Wars centered podcast debut in 1999. That means this is the 25th year of podcasting about Star Wars even if it's only the fourth #SWPD. This is the Way Podcast has celebrated with an episode airing on the seventh of February every year, even if they haven't always been "special" episodes.

This episode is a long rambling sort, but only because the host decided to talk honestly and openly. You'll hear a little about how the host grew up with Star Wars and why he loves it, how it formed his love of sci-fi and fantasy and what prompted the podcasting to begin. Disney Plus live action Star Wars shows aren't "coming soon" but January saw an official greenlight for a second season of Ahsoka and a new "The Mandalorian and Grogu" movie. Will there be a season four of The Mandalorian? That news would have to come in a future news update podcast.

The Bad Batch third and final season is coming next month (February 21st) and finishes up before this year's May the Fourth. Star Wars Podcast Day 2024 is quickly approaching and there is the usual gaming, collecting, and Disney Parks news inside the episode.

Disney Plus live action Star Wars shows have been on hiatus since Ahsoka wrapped and will be until 2024. Four shows await releases during the year. Andor's second season isn't one of them.

There is a little bit of gamer news and some collectors items going on sale. There is no year in review because your This is the Way Podcast host has had an awful final quarter of the year. Here's hoping we're brought some Death Star plans.

Star Wars was dealing with two strikes, but there's a new count now that Dave Filoni is in creative control at Lucasfilm. No, Kathleen Kennedy didn't get fired, but it does seem like having one person in control will be better than the story group that has been making Star Wars awful. Will Filoni make it great again? We have to wait and watch.

Disney Plus Star Wars content is still on hiatus and news isn't great for gamers. Collectors are collecting thanks to the holiday season, which reminds us...do you have something you got and would like to share? If you're looking for a host that will put a positive spin on any criticism of Ahsoka and overlook the awful plotting, bad writing, and focus on only the highlights, then you may want to skip this episode of This is the Way Podcast.

Disney's purchase of LucasFilm has finally "broken" the host and as a day one Disney Plus subscriber, cancelling the service felt like defeat. Hey! Something in common with Sabine and Ahsoka in the show!

Thrawn is no military genius. That's not what we saw. Sabine shouldn't have finally accessed the part of her that can sense the Force because that's not what we've been shown. Ahsoka didn't suddenly figure out what being a master is all about because you cannot somehow believe that it's okay to support someone in everything they do. That's insane. Well, maybe the World Between Worlds broke her. I'm not even sure that's where she was when she saw Anakin anymore, although, hey, he's not concerned with Luke and his grandson because he's hanging out in another galaxy.

I swear, if Disney tries to tell us she starts a new faction of the Jedi and that's her "purpose" in this other galaxy...yikes. I better not hand them any ideas.

Ahsoka's finale is filled with moves that don't make sense and majick that does make sense, but doesn't get used enough. Thrawn fails upward and Ezra gets a Force push from Mary Subine. It's best to stop now before getting upset. Holding out hope until the last minute turned out to disappoint. It's still not Obi-Wan Kenobi series bad, but it's not The Mandalorian or Andor, either.

One strike is over, another might be coming to an end, but Disney Plus Star Wars content is going on hiatus no matter what. It will be months before The Acolyte or Skeleton Crew appears on the streaming service, so I hope you like video game and collectible news!

Ahsoka has just one episode left after Dreams and Madness, Part VII. Remember the days when seasons were something like 20-25 episodes long? Back then, there were cliffhangers and you might have had to wait six months to see a thrilling conclusion. Six months? Now we wait years and get half finished plotlines instead of cliffhangers because the story teams haven't figured out how many years they can squeeze out of an idea.

I sound a little bitter, right? It's hard not to be when you keep telling yourself that it will get better because it has to get better. Half the season is gone. There are still three episodes left. The penultimate episode is going to set up a great finale. The finale...stinks?

Is Ahsoka heading for that valley of despair? The only answer figures to be a decisive victory for Thrawn, but what does that mean in a world we know Rey and Finn and Poe inherit? Are we supposed to keep asking for what's next when what they deliver is always a set up for the next thing and never commits to giving answers because there's something else they might want to mine commercially? Increasingly, it seems people who feared Disney would do what they're doing to Star Wars were right.

Ahsoka isn't all bad and neither is episode seven. Hera stood trial, but she got bailed out of trouble by a gold protocol droid with a note. Ahsoka and Huyang continued on and were in danger! And then they weren't. Baylan sent Shin off to kill the heroes! But she failed. Thrawn set up a master plan! It was to stall. Oh, and Sabine STILL HASN'T TOLD EZRA THEY MIGHT NOT GET HOME.

This is the Way Podcast is not going to stop covering Ahsoka an episode from the finish line, but potential can only carry you so far before you have to produce something special. This series has just one episode to pull out all the stops, but common sense says this is just set up for the next set up.

Is the strike over? Will we get new (Star Wars) series (on Disney Plus) soon? We may or may not, but Ahsoka is almost over and just last month we talked about how great the first couple episodes ended up being. With the advent of the 8 episode season that has pretty much become an industry standard, a lot needs to happen early or people won't even get past the first half.

Ahsoka is back from "The World Between Worlds" and now "far, far away" in a brand new galaxy....that looks a lot like the old one we know so well.

I don't think Lucasfilm and Disney were intending to start from scratch and introduce new concepts and yes, we've got new aliens and new planets, but as Baylan seems to say, Star Wars is a tale like our own history. It's going to repeat again, and again, and again...

Far, Far Away is either giving us a lot to think about or tricking us into thinking we're going to get a lot more in the last two episodes. Will we end up seeing the show as a set up to a movie or will there be exciting events in the penultimate and final episodes?

Nightsisters and Great Mothers...Night Troopers that might be zombies...bandits...Noti...THRAWN! EZRA! Oh, and poor Purrgil. They don't know what's awaiting them at the place they're going to die.

Ahsoka starts the second half of season one with a blast from the past we never got to see and Ahsoka doesn't even give Anakin a big hug. Seriously, if you got to not just remember, but re-experience the past with someone you miss, would you whine and complain about learning lessons right away? No wonder she got her nickname for being snippy.

The World Between Worlds operates completely differently each time someone seems to visit, as does the way in and the way out. Who needs consistency when you have flashes of Vader?

Star whales are at it again, taking long trips without ships...well, I guess one did, didn't it? Hera is in T-R-O-U-B-L-E with the New Republic Senate for no good reason. Huyang loves to stick it to Sabine every chance he gets when she's around, but when she's gone? Well, he sticks it to Jacen Syndulla, an ACTUAL Force sensitive Jedi candidate.

Ahsoka reaches the halfway point of the season by visiting the "World Between Worlds" introduced in the animated series, Rebels. If you had that on your bingo card, congratulations. It's not that odds weren't great that Dave Filoni would take his creation to another time and space...err, place, but animation doesn't always translate well to live action. I suppose we've already crossed that stream, haven't we?

Ahsoka wins one fight and loses another because she burns her hand with a power-filled map. Sabine fights to a stalemate then gives up because she's too attached to Ezra. Shin Hati gets petty. Morgan Elsbeth succeeds in her quest. Hera and Carson Teva survive an "eye of Sion" maneuver in an episode that cribs a big line (used in trailers) from The Lord of the Rings.

It turns out Hera didn't need a pirate. She does bring Jacen along for a dangerous journey and Chopper, well, he was made for that. Did Anakin "pull" an Ezra and pull Ahsoka to safety? Is he going to finish what he started on Malachor or does this manifestation even know about that yet.

Ahsoka doesn't have to be serious to be a good show. I mean, the character sure has been acting serious and crossing her arms a lot, but Star Wars fans don't need everything to make perfect sense to enjoy it. It sure would help if the writing of the show was top level.

What will be next for the show? That's hard to guess. Will Hera enlist a pirate or Maz Kanata since the Senate is so stingy? Will Ahsoka wipe out these "other" Jedi or will there be no finale to the fighting? Is discovering Thrawn the only endgame and where the last episode will leave us or is there a story brewing? Is all this a set up for Filoni's movie?

Baylan remains the most interesting man in the galaxy and that's with masked Marrok in the picture. Huyang seems to have copied all the Jedi knowledge into some external hard drives. Oh, watch out for the star whales!

Ahsoka's first episode set a tone and the second continued the theme. She's looking for Thrawn...oh, and Ezra, too. Hera and Sabine couldn't care less about the bad guys. They just want their friend back. Huyang is trying to preserve his circuitry while Chopper cares very little for collateral damage on Corellia.

Baylan seems like the most interesting man in the galaxy and that's based on more than looks. Elsbeth dips her finger into witchcraft in the episode and Marrok shows off HIS lightsaber training. It certainly doesn't look anything like what he might have learned from Kanan. Maybe Thrawn? Then again, how would HE be able to get back, but Thrawn be in "exile" as Elsbeth puts it?

The real problem (so far) continues to be Filoni's decision to make Sabine force sensitive at all. There is a way to do it and the way he chose to do it makes no sense based on every single character development she went through in Rebels. He has six more episodes to make it make sense.

Ahsoka feels like she's been around since the beginning even though her first appearance in Star Wars came this century and not a long time ago in a galaxy...oh you know. Since she became Anakin's padawan, she's been reviled and revisited as a Rebel and now, revered with a live action series of her own. It might be the most successful introduction to Star Wars canon since the prequels to the hearts of fans, at least of any character not named Grogu.

The series premiere certainly isn't fan service, but neither does it leave long time Star Wars content watchers without nostalgic moments. If you know where to look, you'll find something from The Clone Wars or Rebels past. That's what this podcast aims to help uncover.

This is the Way Podcast was developed specifically for the very first Disney Plus Star Wars show, but my, how it has grown. Three seasons of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, animated series, and monthly Star Wars news. Now, in August of 2023, we're getting another live action entry: Ahsoka.

The character has grown on the fandom from a canon breaking annoyance to a well developed and well loved icon that fleshes out Anakin in a way we might not even have realized was needed. She's no Jedi, but she's also the best kind of mentor Luke could have after losing Obi-Wan and Yoda...and his father, to the Force. We only saw a snippet in The Book of Boba Fett, but it was the last time we saw Ahsoka in action, until her own show debuts on August 22nd.

Steve finished watching the second half of season two of The Bad Batch a long time ago, but in a galaxy not so far away. As an animated show, it has to stand up to Rebels and even The Clone Wars and sometimes, well, it doesn't hold up. Whether it's the story or the writing is up for debate, but it must be a challenge to tie together different shows in a meaningful way and pleasing most of your fans.

Season two's second half isn't all bad, but it's not mostly good, either. If a podcaster who loves Star Wars can't admit that, or can't hold and share that opinion without derision, well, then it's obvious which set of "fans" are the real problems. Star Wars fandom is divided, but there's still hope and The Bad Batch is coming back for a third and final season in the future to tie up loose ends without stepping on hallowed ground that has already been tread (and if it was done in live action, it's even more difficult to live up to the expectations of some fans).

This is the Way Podcast did things differently during the first season two years back with regards to recaps and discussions of The Bad Batch and that's how it is going continue.

Summer is in full sweat in the south, but San Diego Comic Con had most of the cool Star Wars news for the month. The guild strikes in Hollywood put a lot of coming content into question, but Ahsoka is close enough to the end of the production line to probably be safe for it's intended release.

Shooting schedules are paused and actors and writers are less likely to market for an industry they feel is leaving them in a lurch over streaming royalties. It's the perfect time to catch up with collectible and video game news, and the host reveals his first Star Wars purchase in years!

This is the Way we handle podcasts in the summer...sometimes.

The middle of the year last year was cooled off by the chilly reception some people gave Obi-Wan Kenobi (the series, not the character). This spring, The Mandalorian (again, series, not characters) didn't exactly heat things up...unless you were Moff Gideon I guess. That's why the Disney Gallery behind-the-scenes look at season three of The Mandalorian felt lukewarm at best. Well, there was no Luke, like there was for season two or even The Book of Boba Fett.

Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew might be the only hopes after last month's awful news on The Acolyte. There's some gaming news that might only be marketing, but we'll have to give a new developer time to develop an eleven year old MMORPG and give the benefit of the doubt to a game that might be "eclipsing" another that has been in development for a ridiculously long time. As usual there is some news for collector and we're choosing to believe that "Commander Appo" is not the same as "Sergeant Appo" from The Clone Wars, because it certainly seems like a retcon if he's actually the same guy on Daiyu that Obi-Wan sees pandhandling. Somehow, that would make the series even worse in this podcast's opinion.

Did we mention Galactic Starcruiser? No? Neither is Disney really, except to say, hey...we've got plans for that ol' hunk o' concrete.

"June" never know what This is the Way Podcast will be up to next...well, July, I suppose.

Return of the Jedi has been "a thing" for forty years now. FORTY. YEARS.

This is the Way Podcast endorses Episode VI as the height of original Star Wars. Yes, higher than Empire Strikes Back. Certainly not possible without the first movie and fourth episode, but it is unlikely that any movie will supplant "the one with the Sarlaac Pit, Ewoks, Yoda disappearing and Obi Wan on a log and the best finish ever with old Anakin force ghost and Yub nub on the forest moon. Deal with it.

As usual there is Disney Plus series updates, news for collectors, video gamers, and park news (Galactic Starcruiser hitting an asteroid?).

For "May the Fourth" in 2023, Steve interviews...his first daughter. Today was a short interview about what she thinks of Star Wars and how she doesn't enjoy the death and dying that--for better or worse--has been part of the Star Wars watching experience since the beginning. There is no right or wrong way to like Star Wars, after all.

There are no trick questions, but because we're using one microphone for two speakers, the editor did have to get creative with a few clips in order to hide as many of the sound level changes as possible.

The finale of the season could have served as a series finale, but The Mandalorian might be back to his bounty hunting ways if we do in fact get the season four that Jon Favreau says is written. Will it serve the function of the shelved Rangers of the New Republic? Many of those (scripts or at least ideas) may be turned into new Mando chapters.

Wait a minute, this is season four talk...how about season three's finale?

Bo-Katan decides going it alone won't work anymore. Axe Woves drives a ship on fire into a hidey-hole. The Mandalorian remnant are who they say they are. The Armorer is still mysterious. The mythosaur is still awake. Grogu gets a new name. Ragnar finishes foundling school and Grogu gets an equivalency. Din Djarin survives. Paz Vizsla is still dead. The Great Forge is burnin' and the Living Waters are flowin'. Mandalore is back in business, and ain't it grand?

If you wanted a lot of action without a lot of answers, you got it. I don't dislike the season three finale of The Mandalorian, but I wanted to LOVE it. It's...okay.

After a week of theories on "The Spies" it turns out everyone was right and wrong. It didn't matter who was more suspect because in the end, they were all Mandalorian and "The Return" to the planet is complete. There will still be challenges ahead, but finally, THE FORGE AWAKENS.

Why did Grogu take Din when that's not the naming convention of the people of Mandalore? I guess the Children of the Watch do things differently, but that wouldn't explain Paz Vizsla. Why did the Darksaber have to be destroyed? Was that a message to the fans or to take that piece out of the equation for the rulers of the planet moving forward? We didn't get a new force ability, just a reused one from season one (and yes, Rebels, too, but people seem to have forgotten all about the flamethrower in the cantina/school). Oh, and did you catch Trapper Wolf speaking Plo Koon's name? Check out the Adelphi cantina scene when Grogu hops up on the barstool...

Theory talk is thriving on the internet this week as podcasters and fans try to sort through who are the spies to which "The Spies" refers...plural. Is The Armorer talking about the Way while secretly advancing the aims of the Empire? Is Axe Woves going for help or getting out of harm's way? Is Captain Bombardier so concerned with pleasure that Plazir-15 is now really just a waystation for Imperial trade? Are the survivors really surviving or did they trade their loyalty to the planet for peace? Is R5-D4 a double agent? Are Bo-Katan and Din Djarin really "spies" of a different kind? Is the Shadow Council a bunch of spies...on each other? The only one we know for sure is a spy is Elia Kane.

Lucasfilm and Disney really cannot give up Grogu. They should not. They probably WILL NOT. What could have come off as a horrible parody ended up being cute and funny. It could still end up being terrible, but for now, we must admit, we like Independent Grogu-12.

Who are the titular spies? Elia Kane is certainly one. Does Brindol Hux count because his son famously declares himself as one many years later? What about any and all of the Imperial remnant? The pirates? Is it the Mandalorian survivors? It can't be The Armorer. Well, it SHOULDN'T be based on her story. You don't bother building up people just to destroy them later if you can just manufacture the destruction at any time. It's not like she couldn't have done it safely. She also didn't hesitate to crack skulls in the Nevarro sewers, bust up the pirates, or abandon the group.

It would have been hard not to improve on last week's episode, but the penultimate one for season three moved us toward what promises to be an amazing finale. We'll have to see Chapter 24 before we know, but we have the best thing in the galaxy on our side: hope.

There were way too many people making excuses for this episode for me and I just couldn't ignore that, nor could I get past the casting surprises in Guns for Hire. Christopher Lloyd has been announced for the season so when we saw Commissioner Helgait, we had been looking forward to seeing the legendary actor on screen. I like Jack Black and I don't hate Lizzo. Those were...less than welcome surprises, even if they fit our criteria of "fans casted" for roles in a galaxy, far, far away.

The less written here, the better. It's probably the least favorite for This is the Way Podcast, but that doesn't mean it was quite as bad as some of the Obi-Wan Kenobi episodes. The writing there was nothing short of consistently awful. Here...well, we'll choose to give Favreau a pass and Bryce Dallas Howard may have done what she could, but if results matter she dropped the ball on this one. It's...not good. In this podcast, some of the major offending plot issues are brought up. Some of them you may have noticed and some of them haven't been seen or heard elsewhere, but everyone should be talking about it.

The best thing to do it get through this one and look forward to "spying" next week's episode when it becomes available to everyone who WASN'T at the Star Wars Celebration in London.

This episode is a bit of a mess.

Oh, the podcast, too.

The tone was odd from the opening scene and ended awkwardly with a faction of Mandalorians that recently left Bo-Katan because she was an ineffectual leader and lacked the Darksaber. Now, they seem to be back onboard after a promise that she really does deserve it. Ya gotta trust him.

The less I say about the episode in the show notes, the better. I ramble through "stream of consciousness" style and I haven't resorted to this few notes in a long time. You might like the ad lib but the result is a little bit of backtracking and I don't like feeling like I'm wasting anyone's time.

Christopher Lloyd, Jack Black, and...(sigh) Lizzo guest star and there might be more. Listen, Lizzo treated Grogu like a pet in this episode. Maybe that is supposed to fit the character, but I don't know why this gets a pass when so much else does not.

The Pirate finally reveals where Moff Gideon ISN'T, which is what we all figured. The Armorer still doesn't have a name, but she elevates Bo-Katan and House Kryze to the heights of Mandalore...if she has that authority, but I mean, who is she, really? Zeb is back. Well, he was back for a couple of lines and we might not see him again anytime soon, but HEY! Live action Lasat!

We are all out of trailer footage. Fresh out folks. We are officially flyin' blind for the last three episodes. The good news? Bryce Dallas Howard is up next. Peter Ramsey...nice job with Chapter 21, but we have GOT to talk with Joseph Shirley and the sound mixers about too much noise. I want to hear the dialogue better. Just me? Nobody else feels that way?

We started the season with Din Djarin on a quest. Now it looks like we're wrapping up the last half of the season by giving Bo-Katan one of her own. Hey...This is the Way!

Just last week Ahmed Best took Kelleran Beq from internet game show to Star Wars canon. This week, Garazeb Orellios went from animated in an animated series to...well, okay, computer generated and animated in live action. It was still great to see a Rebels character come to life! Okay, we saw Ahsoka do that last season. Hey, you get my point!

Did you ever think we'd see the Armorer tell someone to take it off? The helmet I mean. I mean, this isn't the way, is it? I guess it is now, since she's hear the true tale of the Mythosaur on Mandalore. Ooh, that's a good title.

There's blaster battles, dogfights in ships, Rodians running interference, SNL cast members annoyed with droids, and the Armorer handing off hammers and smacking them in alien faces. Good stuff! Mandalorians get a piece of the promised land in the lava flats of Nevarro and that's great timing since R5-D4 can't keep secrets. Sorry, Capitan Azul, you gots ta go.

Here's hoping Carson Teva gets an action figure soon. We haven't bought one in a while, but if I was a cosplayer, I might have found my wheelhouse.

Oh, of the podcast? Sure, but wow this one would have needed to be stacked with commercials to fit an hour slot. In these streaming days, well, no such trouble.

Yes, I know last week's description seems similar and that's purposeful when you consider the difference between the lengths. This episode was the shortest of the series!

I went this far before bringing up Ahmed Best. Are you proud of me? I don't think I'll ever warm to Jar Jar Binks, but the man suffered a great deal for doing the job he was hired to do. He's also a lover of Star Wars and that's always alright in my book.

If I was a betting man, I'd say we're going to see most of the remaining scenes from the season three trailer in the 5th episode of the season. If there is anything left, it might be the Carson Teva stuff. We left off on the planet with the covert, so the remaining scenes of the Mandalorians there and on Nevarro probably are next. Will we check back in with Dr. Pershing and Elia Kane? Will we get a through thread bridging seasons three and four? Will we get more nurture and admonition in the Mandalorian culture or has everyone "leveled up" enough this season? So many questions, but this kind of storytelling is why we fell in love with the show in the first place.

We have reached the halfway point of the third season and it's not all downhill from here!

How do the helmets of the Children of the Watch relate to the numbers given to officers under the amnesty of the New Republic? Well, we don't want to talk faces and names because then we have individualism and these groups are more into the "collective" style. What's with the yellow travel biscuits? Is there some old magic in that living water because it sure does look shimmery and glimmery when it hits the forging vats.

Rodian and Mon Cala sightings? Check. Darksaber ignition? Well, no, but it is on the belt. Space battles? Yep! Leaps of faith? You betcha. Mindflaying? Nah, bruv...this here is a 602 Mitigator. I can see how you'd make that mistake, though. Is that U-mah-tay or U-mait? Ah, well, it has to be Benduday somewhere, am I right? Maybe I should check to make sure the rotations are the same on this here star chart to secret coverts of the galaxy...

Just when I thought we were done in the mines, we got pulled back in. Din Djarin had to refill the ol' canteen and boy would those magic waters pay off in the end. Bo-Katan lost her home and found a new one, of sorts. Doctor Pershing gets rehabilitated and then his brain recombobulated. A certain Comms Officer feels upwardly mobile, doesn't she? Is that with her new friends or with her old. We're betting she's still got some of that "Imp" in her. Must be the biscuits.

This episode got us thinking...what if the Children of the Watch are perpetuating the same problems the Republic and the New Republic seem to be making? Is joining a faceless or nameless collective really the best for the common good? Religion is good for the soul, but sometimes that religion is used in the wrong way and we've all heard "those" stories in the real world. Favreau and Filoni, what are you trying to say?

Prayers are appreciated for host Steve's grandmother Lorraine and his family, including his uncle and father who have been helping her. 98 years old, but that age comes with health issues. It may be the way of life, but This is the Way Podcast sure would appreciate prayers lifting her up.

Din Djarin has been seeking redemption since finding out he made a boo boo when he took his helmet off for Grogu. I mean, that's according to his den mother, affectionately known as "The Armorer" but she rules the roost with a beskar hammer and tongs.

Look, I'm not SAYING Bo Katan has a thing for Din, but those looks she was giving? She is giving herself over--not to him and not to The Way, but to the purity of his cause and commitment. She also probably appreciates the respect he's been giving her since day one because that's something she's not accustomed to having lately. All I'm saying is...look, she likes him, alright? I don't know if that's "like like" or what, but that's a point of discussion in this week's episode. Also this week...how much time to exsanguinate a Mandalorian in his shiny shell? Apparently, the spider crab can't work that fast, which is a good thing for the show, unless Pedro Pascal asks for too much money on the next negotiations and then, well, see ya later Daddy Din!

Oh, am I burying the lede? Well, there was this mythical beast that casually shows up in the last few moments that might mean a great deal to the future of Mandalore. What? You've never heard the tale of the mythosaur? You weren't paying attention, were you? Oh, and one thing we DIDN'T mention was saving gas money. Why exactly did Dingo to Kalevala first, then Tatooine, then BACK to the same star system? We thought he should have headed to Tatooine right after Nevarro last week, but we were proven right with the star charts this week. C'est la vie dans la Guerre des Etoiles!

I'm not talking post-credit scenes, either. There are purgill and space gators and monkey lizards and bat things and maybe even convors. Protocol droids abound. Anzellans steal screen time and Greef Karga makes his best pitch for a lawman even though he's still quick on the draw. A mossy pirate king graces our presence and no one wants Mando around, even if Grogu is still cutest thing around. What's the deal with the Bible, too?

This is the Way Podcast was developed specifically for the very first Disney Plus Star Wars show. We were fans well before we spotted "The Child" at the end of the first episode. The trailers that had been coming out for season one got Steve to ask everyone and anyone if they wanted to join him in discussing the show. It was an amazing and fun season.

Season two came and Favreau and Filoni built on a solid foundation of Star Wars. The finale brought people to their feet and tears of joy to their eyes.

It took The Book of Boba Fett, teased after the credits and coming a year later, but the story was surprisingly continued. Grogu chose family over power, something Bo-Katan Kryze may not have the option to do anymore. Do Mandalorians have that chance? Will the mysteries of The Force be too great a draw for Grogu to resist? Does the Darksaber's existence mean Mandalore is a slave to struggle?

Season three's preview podcast is here and we expect "Chapter 17" (if it's indeed a continuation) to be another monumental installment of the favorite Star Wars show on television. This is the Way!

Steve has been watching season two of The Bad Batch weekly on Disney Plus, but you may have noticed there aren't any recap and discussion episodes of the podcast. That's how This is the Way Podcast did things during the first season two years back and that's how it is going to be here in 2023. As an animated show, it's still entertaining and no less interesting as far as lore and canon is concerned, but with The Mandalorian season three approaching and coming off the fantastic set of episodes of Andor, well, The Bad Batch cannot compare.

With a 16 episode season, one big episode might be too much to cram into one episode and the creators kind of built in a spot to split the season with a two episode mid-season finale consisting of episodes 7 and 8. Episode 9 will start the second half on the 15th of February and this episode of This is the Way Podcast is designed to catch you up and evaluate what are the most important stories from the first half of season two. New year, same news update format. That may either delight or frustrate you, but we started these news updates as a way to keep our podcast (and the name This is the Way Podcast) current between seasons of The Mandalorian. That's right, even this news update has roots in the "original" Star Wars Disney Plus show. There are observations made in this podcast (and on our Twitter account) that Steve hasn't seen anywhere else. Is that because he alone noticed them or is it because people aren't going as in depth with their looks at the trailer? One thing This is the Way Podcast feels safe in predicting: there's nothing in this trailer past episode 6 of this season. That's Favreau and Filoni's style.

Did Grogu even get rescued? Is Captain Teva holding high level meetings with General Organa? Is Christopher Lloyd playing a geneticist meeting with Pershing? Where is Moff Gideon? Are those TIE/IN really Imperial remnants? Is Aldhani getting visit...or Wayland? Are Kowakian monkey lizards more than just dumb pets? Why did Din Djarin retrofit the astromech pod on his Naboo Starfighter and why pick R5 to sit in that port? Do we have answers to any of these questions?

It's been...a few weeks since the finale of Andor aired (or streamed, rather) on Disney Plus, but it's not production delays, real life problems, or anything of that nature which has our last reaction and discussion podcast of season one coming out so late. Part of it was planned (since This is the Way Podcast doesn't get access to early watches, we can't have a podcast ready to go before some of the other outlets) and part of it was a lack of desire since there isn't anything new coming until after the new year. There was a desire to read and hear articles and interviews that we know come out typically after the show seasons come to a close which would shed more light on what we saw and what we might see next season. That's definitely the case and you'll hear about some of that after the show recap portion.

"Rix Road" isn't a perfect send-off, but we KNOW we're getting a second season, and this finale answers some of the questions it raised and sets up resolutions to come. Showrunner Tony Gilroy has been saying all the right things and wrote so much better than some of the other shows that even Hollywood took notice and it's hard to find legitimate criticisms of the work (I'm not saying they aren't out there, but just not liking something isn't the same as having evidence of bad writing or terrible acting).

Cassian "became Cassian" during this season and for a show CALLED Andor, what more can you expect from a show than to do what it tells you it's going to do...well, when it does so in a thought provoking and entertaining way, you get terrific television.

Season two is a long way away and The Bad Batch season two and The Mandalorian season three and Ahsoka and Acolyte season ones will all come out well before it. It isn't necessary to resist comparisons. Don't buy that line from "fans" of Star Wars. It doesn't have to be apples to apples. Good writing and acting speak for themselves.

This is the Way Podcast sometimes runs into production trouble. Host Steve Loscalzo is now a "one man show" and with family obligations, even thorough preparations, recording can be tricky. The podcast episode is still out before the finale.

The episode is fantastic. The space battle between the Arrestor cruiser and the Fondor haulcraft might be one of the host's favorites. Ultimately, this is a "set up" episode for the finale, but the writing and acting is such high quality that it doesn't feel like spinning wheels in the least.

There are tons of stories that need to be addressed. They don't all need to find a neat and tidy resolution, but leaving so many loose threads would feel like a cheap effort at creating cliffhangers. That's about as unlikely at scoring a bullseye on a womp rat from a speeder.

This is the Way Podcast's 101st episode is out on the third anniversary of the first ever post. A lot has happened since that preview of coverage of The Mandalorian. There's no real fanfare for this one. I didn't know what to expect on episode one, but now I've settled in to what it's like to podcast about a show I'm truly enjoying and if you're a listener, thank you! If you're not, well, then...you like reading the "show notes" I guess, huh?

Episode 10 of Andor is a "capper" for what is really a four story arc, dating back to mid-October's episode 7. Back then, I was foolish to think that Andor would need some help out of prison and it would be quick and we'd get on with the "real" stuff. Little did I know that inside that prison was a greenhouse to grow the seeds of Nemik's manifesto and a little less than 5000 men would hear the clarion call of the rebellion against the Empire. One Way Out? Well, the only way out is to climb.

Plenty of people are watching Andor, but the last few Disney distributed Star Wars show have disastrously left a bad taste on the mouths of many of my friends. They're "blaster-shy" at watching more of what Lucasfilm has been putting out. This is the Way Podcast is trying to spread the word. Andor is great! Top to bottom, writing, acting, directing, design, score...this show's "worst" is better than some shows "best" offerings. We see what prison life is like, find out that Tunqstoid steel feels hot under red light, discover what happens when you file false reports to the ISB, watch squigs fizz at a Coruscanti party, and revisit Ferrix because...because...um, beeeeecaauuuuuse...well, they'll figure it out! These writers can actually write well!

Is this show getting better each week? Announcement is the latest episode and since the writer only has this one episode, it's possible it's a standalone and not the first of a story arc, but something tells me we're going to continue with Keef's (Cassian's) incarceration, so we can call it part of the arc anyway.

We thought tears would flow during The Eye last week, but Maarva delivers the gut punches, the I-S-B has some eyebrow raising developments, and it turns out you can't just avert your eyes to injustice time after time, because it WILL catch up to you.

It's October and Andor is halfway done. Somehow we've managed to still get a couple of news items out of it and as always, we keep tabs on collectors and gamers. It's the Disney Parks news that has us hoping someone manages to spark a rebellion.

House of the Dragons and The Rings of Power both vacate the scene with season finales this month and that means Andor and Tales of the Jedi might get more eyes on screens. Star Wars content will always be king (emperor?) at This is the Way Podcast but we aren't silly enough to think that it's the only show in town. Sure we could get MORE Star Wars, but I'd rather Lucasfilm keep producing "Andor level quality" streaming television shows than...what we seemed to be getting in the other shows this year.

Writing "chef's kiss" just isn't the same as emoting it. What a great set of episodes. Tony Gilroy teed things up with episodes one through three and Dan, his brother, really brought the rebellion home for us. Somehow, we also gained a little understanding for the people working in the Empire as well. Beehaz may actually be a terrible human being, but he's also trying to make his family happy and get them off Aldhani. Turns out his heart was really never into leaving the planet.

The mission went smoothly, as most missions do until they go wrong. The Eye did not disappoint. Not the episode. Not the visual representation of the phenomenon above Aldhani. The Eye is great television and great Star Wars. Rest in peace, soldiers and Echo team's fallen. Rebellion in process, Valley team and survivors of the vault run.

We had an underwater incursion, TIE fighters in the skies, natives singing and dancing, the Empire going into panic mode, and a Rebellion getting a much needed injection of cash. Too bad bacta suits aren't invented yet or maybe Doctor Tetramanos just didn't have access to one.

Yes.

I know.

The best keeps getting better, but we hear the commentary from fellow podcasters and fans about this being a slow burn. One prominent YouTuber even warned that a "slow burn" is fine as long as it doesn't turn into a "no burn" kind of show. I think next week is going to bring all the action we can handle emotionally. Star Wars: Andor's first three episodes are a smashing success in the opinion of This is the Way Podcast. What would our show name have ended up being if this was the first Disney Plus Star Wars show instead of The Mandalorian?

Showrunner Tony ("Toe pick!") Gilroy turned things over to his brother Dan ("The Man") and dialogue and action are still in good hands for the second trio of episodes, or so it would seem. Is there anyone Stellan Skarsgard couldn't act opposite and make it feel epic? Cassian, Vel, Mon Mothma...even shopgirl and rebel wrapper Kleya Marki all end up feeling like rising stars in the alliance. Meanwhile Major Partagaz brings us into the inner circle of the Imperial Security Bureau and we get to see what a career minefield the boardroom can be. Meero and Blevin are both terrific opponents on the same side. Karn didn't get demoted if we heard right, but he DID have to go home and face mom. A slap and a hug...sending mixed messages never hurt so comfortable.

Oh and the rebels on Aldhani? Skeen and Nemik? Vel and Gorn? Taramyn and Cinta? Star Trek names aside, these are the most lovable merry men going on a suicide mission we can remember. We will miss them when they all die horrible, seemingly meaningless deaths.

Episode 5 probably picks up where we left off, but here's hoping we don't get a cliffhanger with the team stuck inside the Aldhani garrison. Maybe just show us the Day of Days dinner party on Coruscant with some familiar faces and show us the lead up to the mission? I mean, there's a lot happening and more than 3 character arcs, so give our hearts a week to prepare for everything to go wrong.

Star Wars: Andor's first three episodes are already available and showrunner Tony ("Toe pick!") Gilroy set a high bar for shows in a galaxy far, far away. The dialogue is terrific and the acting has complimented it and the camera work and direction haven't gotten in the way. Will it be the best show from LucasFilm on Disney Plus? It's got a shot and that's saying something.

Syril Karn and Timm Karlo could have been buddies in a different life. Maybe even closer than that, like mortal enemies? Instead Karn launches his offensive on the citizens of Ferrix, but maybe he should have listened a little closer to that analyst that warned him things don't always operate the way PreOx Morlana thinks it should on paper...or, um, data terminal. Luthen tests Cassian, Maarva learns to let go, Bix loses her sleepover buddy, and the townspeople band together in a jam session that is very metal.

It's here! The newest Star Wars show went live on the Disney Plus streaming service with three episodes (a complete story arc) on September 21, 2022. This podcast will cover the first episode and the first episode ONLY. In fact, Steve restricted himself to watching just the first episode to make it easier to compartmentalize each part of the story. What a story!

Tony Gilroy does not disappoint in his showrunning and script. It's clear that it's a welcome departure from some of the terrible writing on recent shows (and the Star Wars Twitter community comments widely conveyed that sentiment). Not a lightsaber to be seen. Not a single Stormtrooper on screen. No mention of the Emperor or Darth Vader. No lamenting the Jedi. A couple blaster shots near the beginning and only one of them fatal. This episode set a tone and a character trajectory This is the Way Podcast looks forward to seeing play out over the next couple months.

Early September saw a Disney Plus Day and a D23 expo and yet, news is light. Also, we're at the point where we don't even feel like mentioning when shows will stream anymore, because Disney's "non-announcement announcement" policy is so bad, they must use disappearing ink.

In a month where dragons and magic rings are dominating the streaming platforms, we get a really cool show before the movie with Andor (as a lead up to Rogue One). The clips thus far have been fantastic and I trust Tony Gilroy to supervise some good scripts. It's the show we're most looking forward to since The Mandalorian season three is still months and months away.

This month there is a note about Han's blaster, stuff about Knights of the Old Republic and KOTOR II, and Andor is right around the corner. Ahsoka makes the cut, Bad Batch gets an (officially official) release date, and Obi-Wan Kenobi isn't left behind by the Disney Gallery after all. That's...pretty much it.

Ah, vacation. It's been nice; enjoying nature and experiencing summer somewhere other than in 95 degree heat and 70% humidity all the time. Now that's we are back at the rebel base, we wanted to collect some thoughts about recent "news" (if you can call it that) and get in the mental space preparing for Andor AND The Bad Batch, season two.

I hope this episode is the first and last time I ever recommend AGAINST reading or giving business to Star Wars, but Disney better stop with the agenda or I'm going to have to rethink my fandom. I'm definitely not a fan of Disney politics and my hope is that the evil empire of Disney is stopped by a rebellion of the fans.

I'm not holding my breath. There's not enough incentive to continue to advocate AGAINST something. In fact, Disney apologists have done a wonderful job of characterizing people that do as "troublemakers" and "bullies" and "haters" and enough people seem to support that line of thinking that it seems hopeless that things will go back to how they were before: where everyone could imagine their own slice of the galaxy, free of the agendas of others. Now, it's "you better like it or you're not with us" and silly me, I thought that's what all this fighting was in the first place.

We still don’t have any podcast recommendations. That's fine. It was a good idea poorly received. All six episodes of the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series are available now on Disney Plus. Bottom line: does This is the Way Podcast recommend watching? OF COURSE. It’s STAR WARS.

Is it GOOD Star Wars? Eh.

It’s not awful, but that’s not a glowing recommendation, now, is it? There were plot problems throughout the show. Some resolved, but the resolutions weren’t skillful craft by the writers. In some cases, it was the sheer knowledge that some things could not change that kept the show on the rails. In some cases, that clearly was a line they’d like to test. They even managed to get a subtle jab in on Luke.

It was pretty clear someone at LucasFilm and Disney had a plan to make Reva a star. “Let’s expand the universe” is the woke mantra. It’s a shame, because writing the Third Sister differently might have made that happen, but the best writing seemed to come from the original creator of the character and that writer thought her arc should end in death at Vader’s hands. This is the Way Podcast agrees. It was not just deserving, but prevented the plot hole of sensitive information that we know never gets revealed, but having it out in the universe is like showing a gun off in a play, implying it will get used, only it never gets seen again.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has some great moments. I’d love for someone to just cut the entire lightsaber sequence on the unknown planet into one long cut, ending with “Obi-Wan!” and I prefer to think of Reva as having keeled over and slowly covered by the sands of Tatooine, burying the information of Owen and the child, Obi-Wan and Bail along with a poorly fleshed out member of the Inquisitorious. I’d rather hear more from Roken, Sully, and Tala. Oh, wait. They killed her off.

I've seen things like "Finally! An episode that lives up to the hype!" and "Obi-Wan Kenobi can't deliver in the finale" and "Obi-Wan ultimately wasn't even about Obi-Wan" and I think the answer lies in the point of view.

If you loved Reva, you probably love her underdeveloped arc. If you love Vader, you probably love how he's still obsessed with his master, but still shows great skill with a saber, metal legs and all. If you love Luke, well, you're probably disappointed with Disney's sly little implication that he's always been a weakling.

Owen and Beru are shown to be brave and capable caretakers of the galaxy's future. Thank goodness. Obi-Wan reaches "rock bottom" and instead of recoiling in the horror of maiming his friend's body, he finally realizes that Anakin destroyed his soul long before his lungs and limbs burned on Mustafar. Palpatine is still playing mind games. Qui Gon Jinn gets the Force ghost treatment we've only seen thus far in animated form. I half expected to see Yoda eating frogs on Dagobah.

Was this show perfect? Absolutely not! The writers, with the exception of Andrew Stanton, should never get near Star Wars again. Deborah Chow got her shot and some of the camera set ups were atrocious. No more show running Star Wars, please, but if Filoni or Favreau want to let her direct episodes, at least someone will be looking over her shoulder. Once again, the dialogue is not great. Once again, the logic is flawed in places. Once again, Obi-Wan is on Tatooine keeping a (distanced) eye on Luke and all is well...except for that huge giant information bomb that's out there somewhere in the universe, one we know never goes off, but shouldn't exist or at the very least, should be dead and buried in the sand. It's on the verge of unforgiveable that Reva doesn't die. She should have, except, well, Disney doesn't have the guts.

How about that? A new writer comes in and the story gets better. That’s not magic. That’s just someone with better storytelling skills helping turn out the best episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi yet.

"Best" is certainly a relative term, but when you have Vader being awesome, Obi-Wan and Anakin dueling once again and revenge on Reva instead of the other way around, it’s bound to be better than at least the last two segments of stories in this limited series.

There’s echoes and tone poems and rhyming of story beats galore. I wonder if George Lucas likes everything he sees or if bathing in billions isn’t the panacea for caring about his creation I believe it to be.

The appropriate way to express the mood of This is the Way Podcast after Part Five is to say it was enjoyable. What isn’t different this week compared to last week is that there is still the possibility that Disney could ruin things. I mean, it doesn’t REALLY matter too much because I’m still going to watch. I’ll always be a Star Wars fan. Heck, I even saw Episode VIII in the theaters…twice.

Never again, but that’s beside the point…

It was devastating to morale to watch others claim credit for being the first to notice things that our podcast posted first. There's no use screaming to the heavens about it because if people don't listen to our podcasts and make the same observations, it probably wasn't some great mystery that This is the Way Podcast was first to solve. Seeing ideas we had several weeks back pop up NOW on YouTube was a little more strikingly painful, but I'm not supposed to be doing this for credit. It doesn't take away the sting, especially when I consider myself to be one of the more reasonable outlets among a Star Wars social media community that refuses to allow anyone to be critical; the real toxic fans, in my opinion.

It's even worse when the past two episodes have been lackluster (except for instances of Obi-Wan and Vader) and the criticisms accurate and thoughtful only to have things come together better in Part Five as if that erases the poor storytelling for the past few weeks. Years from now...heck...a week from now, people will watch the episodes in binge fashion (or be able to) and the lack of a layered plot won't be as obvious. In episodic form, however, the problems with the story and the canon conundrums are stark and disappointing, especially when amateurs can solve problems that would probably even cost production LESS to implement than what we're seeing. Disney certainly needs to make a buck, but the smarter place to have put money was on better actors in the key roles. Oh, I'm not talking about Ewan and Hayden. Perhaps the Inquisitors could have been more established or better practiced.

The dialogue is (again) not great. The logic is (again) flawed in places. Canon was restored for the Rebels faithful. Spectacle was provided in the form of Vader doing things with the Force that leave us with Sith eating grins. Oh, and any moments we get to spend back in the before times, in the long, long ago with a padawan and his master practicing in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, well...we will take it.

Now, I don’t want to go off on a rant here…

LucasFilm needs to hire me to take a look at “final drafts” of scripts…or anyone who is a fan of good television. The writing places us in situations in part four of the story that are unnecessarily bad and we shouldn’t have to ignore our way out of trouble to enjoy the show. It isn’t hard here to see ways the story can be exactly the same, but more believable and still exciting, but we get things like Stormtroopers who don’t notice Obi-Wan in the hallway, except they do, and no one hearing Tala in the terminal room, except they do. Reva is written poorly and the acting isn’t good enough to cover it up. One of the parts of the episode I liked the most was Roken, Wade, and Sully, and we got precious little of those characters. Vader continues to dominate every scene in my mind and it’s the one thing that allows me to forget about the shortcomings. We’re still getting Vader hunting Obi-Wan, which is how the show was “pitched” to fans.

One of these days, This is the Way Podcast will have to download that already-purchased-game Jedi: Fallen Order, especially since a planet introduced there shows up in this episode. We don’t see the Grand Inquisitor in that game (to my knowledge) and we still haven’t seen him reappear here. There is a real “love/hate” relationship this podcast has with Obi-Wan Kenobi, the series here which is to say Steve loves the characters and hates how bad the writing makes them appear. Our allegiance will always be to the Star Wars we loved as a child and still get in shows like The Mandalorian and not to just anything that Disney slaps a label on for marketing their products.

We made such an effort to "be first" with great observations, theories, and content, but even being first and accurate doesn't lead to more downloads or listeners. For the fourth episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, I decided to try and enjoy it more, but I found myself going off on tangents after taking notes so often it was apparent that the problems I have with the show outweigh the excitement and awe I have with what's happening in the story of Star Wars right now.

The story isn't bad. Leia has been kidnapped. We all thought Luke was the one going to be in danger, but now it's apparent Leia is going to be a focus. I don't hate it. I definitely think there can't be any stops in between Nur and Alderaan. There's no need to jump around. Get Leia to the Organa family and shake any tails after the fact. That should mean the whole tracker subplot is pointless, and it should be. Based on the writing so far, the thing that makes the most sense in universe for the characters won't happen, because it hasn't been.

The dialogue is not great. The logic is flawed in many places. It's when characters start flip flopping on things like skills, personality traits, and established canon goes out the window that real notice needs to be taken.

We get some cool shot set ups, like the one in the interrogation room and the people in the "belly of the beast" on Nur. We also get shots like the one of the Stormtroopers NOT seeing an old guy slip behind a column just a few feet away.

We see nods to the original trilogy and nods to the sequels. We see Obi-Wan regain some strength and Vader refuse to use his power.

The problems are few, but large. The audio isn't mixed well and the writing is failing to set things up. I can't decide if Deborah Chow is at fault for her obvious mistakes or making things work spectacularly with visuals when the writing has failed to set her up well.

The third Obi-Wan Kenobi episode started streaming less than a week from episode two. Part Three gave us our answer of who would voice Darth Vader. It also gave us the first lightsaber duel between the two since Mustafar (Revenge of the Sith).

Padme's daughter continues to shine in her role (in our opinion) and Reva's character seems to fit better even if only by a mote. Steve still feels strongly about the backlash on valid critiques of the episodes and adds sound mixing to his sources of frustration. The story seems to be a good one, but the writing isn't spectacular and with so many chefs in the writing kitchen, it's not completely surprising.

More Ben and Leia on the road. A new rebel in Empire clothing to love. A trip to the mid-rim and a meeting with a mole man. Vader snapping necks and starting fires. Obi-Wan beaten and burned, but not disappearing into the Force just yet. Leia once again in danger.

Are they really retconning Rebels here? Is Obi-Wan going to meet his brother somewhere down the road? Will people stop making fools of themselves on Twitter?

The Star Wars fandom really seems to be forever fractured. Just when you think there are reasons for coming together, some idiots post dumb things on the internet. That's not even the worst part, which you'd figure would easily be the worst part (and I'm sure it's that bad for the actors targeted). No, the worst part is the "over correction" that happens from every well meaning (and some not so well meaning) "fans" who then scour the internet for any contrary point of view and lump them all together. I'm not speculating here. I experience it.

It's not going to change our feelings for the character of Reva. We don't think the character is working out and we feel more backstory is needed NOW, not later. The over acting is either direction given or bad writing or both or just poor acting. I won't fault casting here, so it has to be one or the other or the combination. Know this, Star Wars "fans" who continue to lump any critique in with racists...you are making people take sides. Ignore the idiots and stop attacking them. Let Star Wars and LucasFilm deal with the attacks. You're not helping. You aren't.

Part Three was a "slow burn" (if you know, you know) and is the kind of episode that's necessary. It introduces a new character, gets the plot moving along (even if just a tiny bit) and produces conflict. There still seems to be issues with believable chases and getaways that we now feel are going to persist in this show. We might hear next episode about "the Way" and see where "the Path" takes us or we might get another "filler" episode. This wasn't filler, but the lightsaber fights were not epic, nor was Vader forgetting how to put out fire mere moments after having done it. Vader isn't much for words, but maybe we need some plot reveals from somewhere else if that's the case.

The second of two episodes released on Obi-Wan Kenobi series day one is, oddly enough, called Part Two. I would bet heavily that the next episode in the series, the third one, will be called Part Three.

We not only get more young Leia in this one, but we get Ben and Leia TOGETHER. They're the most talked about duo since a beskar plated cultist and a long eared, big eyed, green skinned, sack wearing alien of mysterious origin. The show STILL can't get a foot chase right, but we're less concerned about things like that when Star Wars: Rebels retconning is on the table.

Now, there's NO WAY they do that, right? Star Wars has "grievous" bodily harm all the time. I mean, Vader pretty much burned to a crisp, Maul got bisected...and well, I just mentioned Grievous, didn't I? Reva certainly upped her game, but I just want to hear her motivation. Who is she trying to impress?

We did it guys! We finished four podcasts and the first and third were done by 5 AM eastern Friday morning. Podcasts 2 and 4 (our recap and discussion episodes) took a little longer, but collecting audio and quality control were a bit more difficult this time around. It was a pleasure, though, to bring our thoughts to the galaxy of Star Wars fans. We just hope our quality control issues are forgiven and people keep coming back for more. We certainly could use some positive reviews!

Season One, Episode Two of Obi-wan Kenobi arrived early just like Episode One. I wonder if there was anyone out there that said to themselves, "You know what? I'm watching these things out of order." No one? I mean, this is 2022, so there had to be at least one person, right?

This is the Way Podcast released an episode on Friday, May 27th (well, two actually) without the requisite quality control and somehow, audio was shifted, perhaps due to an errant clip deletion during the exporting process. If that's confusing to you, imagine those of our listeners that gave our podcast a shot for the first time and heard the audio clips not synced up properly. Steve can't do anything about that first impression. He's going to keep giving his first impressions of the episodes and doing the best he can to not make the same mistake twice.

Part 1 lived up to expectations and so does Part 2. The writers and directors still seem to have no idea how to create a believable foot chase with two different ones not making sense this time. At least in this case Obi-Wan (Force) catches his quarry, where Reva SHOULD have at least twice done so. This podcaster is certainly going to let that slide.

The space wizard wasn't late, nor was he early. He arrived precisely when he meant to. Well, okay, it WAS earlier than we expected to get episodes one and two of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The usual release window of 3 AM eastern was changed at Star Wars Celebration to give fans a better chance to see the show, which honestly we felt was a strong possibility and it was a welcome one. Shortly before midnight, both episodes popped up on Disney Plus and Steve binged them both immediately.

Part I was nearly perfect. If only Star Wars could get a foot chase right. The clear stand out was the princess, not quite a surprise since there was rumors surrounding her appearance, but it certainly was a bigger presence for her than we expected. Lola is the "droid du jour" and Ewan McGregor hasn't lost a step as Obi-Wan, even if the character seems to have aged more than the ten years he has been in hiding on Tatooine. Joel Edgerton somehow became more Owen Lars than the original actor, Phil Brown. Seriously.

Moses Ingram almost qualified for a handlebar mustache with her over-the-top Third Sister act, but her standing out amongst the choir doesn't sit well with Fifth Brother or the Grand Inquisitor. If you're counting Jedi killed, you'll have to ignore the opening scene on Coruscant, but we say hello there and goodbye there in this episode to just one on the run, Nari. We hardly knew ye.

Season One, Episode One of Obi-wan Kenobi didn't just arrive, it arrived early. Parts 1 (and 2) became available on the Disney Plus streaming platform shortly before midnight on March 26th, having been moved up a few hours in an executive decision announced from Star Wars Celebration. The early release was appreciated.

This is the Way Podcast immediately got to work and truth be told, notes have been taken and podcasts have been recorded for both episodes already, but a mountain of editing and effects collection and audio clean up awaits. The second episode "first thoughts" podcast will release AFTER the recap and discussion episode which will hopefully be ready on Friday the 27th, but the episode has already been recorded and is ready to go. It just might be confusing to have reactions back-to-back and then deeper dives back-to-back after that. We'll try and handle things one episode at a time.

Order 66 seems to have caught up to any and all co-hosts. Transmissions from the Jedi Temple revealed too many in hiding and now, Steve is going "solo" for the newest Disney Plus Star Wars series.

Obi-wan Kenobi debuts Friday, May 27th, 2022 with TWO episodes of the six episode limited run. Well, it's limited until Kathleen Kennedy and LucasFilm says it's not, right? This show could be a huge success and we've already heard Ewan McGregor say he'd love to give the 'ol space wizard another crack. What stories could they tell after this one? Who knows? Would it matter? It hasn't even started airing and I think fans would sign off on another story.

Speaking of fans, today, May 26th, 2022 is the start of Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim. This preview takes place BEFORE any news gets revealed on the main stage at "the con" so the podcast you'll listen to here is less speculation and news and more "what kinds of things do we think could happen?" and "will Disney screw this one up?" so set your expectations accordingly.

Are you excited? Your host Steve Loscalzo certainly is excited. This won't even be the last series set in the Star Wars galaxy this calendar year, but at six episodes, it feels like it has already gone too fast. Deborah Chow, we're counting on you to run this show right. We know writers have changed, plot points expanded, characters have been created, and friends have reunited, even if only in battle. We don't need Mandalorians to enjoy Star Wars, even if it has helped. Show us magic can still happen and show us a story that feels like it already is a part of the ones we have known and loved for 45 years.

Do not listen to this episode if you loved Akakiri. Yeah, sure we finally rank the nine episodes of Star Wars: Visions at the end, but it won't be worth hearing how much the host didn't like this episode if you enjoyed it.

Steve's issues with Akakiri almost left HIM in a "red haze" and if this had been episode one, there might not have been any coverage of the series beyond a single general thoughts episode. Maybe that would have been best, but so much time was invested in really giving this series a chance. You might have liked this episode, but this one, to This is the Way Podcast, was hard to watch.

Was it put in the last spot on purpose? Maybe the executive producers knew there might be a cold reception to it. Were they saving "the best for last" because if that's their idea of great storytelling, then this podcast is not looking forward to a possible season two.

This is the Way Podcast learned about two parts of anime culture through episode 8. Steve knew they existed, but didn't really understand the terminology. There's "kawaii" and there's "manga effects" and neither of them are important to storytelling, but are certainly a big part of anime.

If those things appeal to you, then "Lop and Ocho" might serve you a terrific Star Wars story. If those things pull you out of the suspension of disbelief you need to enjoy the story, the eighth episode of season one of Star Wars: Visions might be borderline watchable.

There's a humanoid rabbit not named Jaxxon (Lop) and a headstrong rebellious daughter not named Leia (Ocho). The rebel girl is actually an Imperial sympathizer. Well, worse than that actually. She sells out her family to join the Empire in spite of what it's doing to the natural wonders of her home world. Leave it to an off-worlder adopted by the leader of the clan to save the day. She embodies the suffering and the longing to belong that the "real" daughter of the boss doesn't want to accept. Parents just don't understand, I guess.

Only one episode remains in season one coverage. Wait and see if it's released before the Obi-wan Kenobi series starts next week!

Content waits for no one. When the Vanity Fair article hit the 'net on Tuesday, it threatened to make a relic of Steve's hard work. Should he have buckled down Sunday and released both his latest Visions review podcast AND the monthly (on the 15th) news update? Yeah, maybe. He also could have done the news update first and then released the Visions podcast on Tuesday. He didn't. Vanity Fair's article is out. There are SOME details, but you know what? There will be more at Star Wars Celebration. So scrapping the recording and the notes doesn't make sense. There's too much going on right now, so an "addendum" will do. You'll hear it if you listen to the whole podcast.

It makes more sense to accept imperfection here, but just know, it makes Steve cringe.

If you had to pick a project to retire after, it's hard for me to think of a better send-off than Star Wars.

Me? No, I'm speaking about Masahiko Ôtsuka, going out with a strong message for the young after many years as a creator of anime. The episode wasn't a long one, just 15 minutes from first shot to the start of credits (the Filmmaker's Focus episode that goes with it lasts less than 7 minutes). It felt even shorter because of the long pauses, the determined nature of the moral of the story, and a three act play that's direct and refreshing. Studio Trigger should be proud to have their name associated with it.

It's just the host's opinion, of course, but this was a fine example of how Star Wars can both entertain and serve a purpose. Was it Steve's favorite? You'll have to listen to find out, but there's no point in pretending this episode ranked anywhere NEAR the bottom of the seven seen so far.

Just two episodes remain in season one coverage that started way back in September. At the time, The Book of Boba Fett loomed in the coming months. In less than two weeks, we'll start covering the Obi-wan Kenobi series.

Steve's mom will have her own time to shine here on This is the Way Podcast. Today was a short interview about remembering Star Wars for the boys. Nevermind the head scratching you'll hear from time to time in the audio...Steve's dad's head isn't the loudest in the galaxy, the sound is just getting picked up by a really good microphone!

Star Wars: Visions? Visions. Now that's a show I've not podcasted about in a long time. A long time.

More than four months and 17 episodes since our discussion of episode 5 in season one, and rumors have discussed the release of season two. Originally, Steve thought he might wrap all the episodes into one podcast and gloss over the anime, because it's not his favorite medium for storytelling. After watching just one episode, Steve realized there were stories that can transcend the medium. Is TO-B1 one of them?

It depends on your point of view, of course. The story is a classic, think Pinocchio. That's not Disney's doing, but Science SARU, the studio behind episode 6. If you like the whimsical animation style and the fairytale, you may fall in love with Tobi. If not, you may have trouble without a childlike wonderment.

The soundtrack is not the star here. This is a brief, but uplifting look at a master's creation bringing life to more than itself and the journey to other worlds being less important than the journey inward.

Marching onward in 2022, we've got the Obi-wan Kenobi series teaser trailer to mention, a rumor we're kind of hoping isn't true about Grogu (but we don't spoil anything, just in case), and have some videos to recommend if you're thinking of spending a small fortune on a trip to the "stars" near Hollywood Studios in Orlando.

The Bad Batch will return a little older here in 2022 according to the composer for the show and Andor hires someone to handle scoring that isn't Ludwig Goransson. Go figure.

Boba Fett wrapped up last month. Obi-wan is walking up to bat. Clone Force 99 is probably going to bat third with Andor in the clean-up spot and Fulcrum, Mando, and an Acolyte in the line-up as well.

The 2022 Annual Disney Shareholders Webcast didn't hold much information for us about Obi-wan Kenobi, but the Entertainment Weekly article and teaser trailer appearing that same Wednesday, March 9th sure did! I'd like to mention that just for the sake of partiality, I do not own stock, even partial stocks, in Disney...though it probably is a silly restriction to put on myself since it stands to be a good investment with prices going up across the board for everything Disney.

As with The Book of Boba Fett first trailer, there are confirmations of rumors and implications of storylines, but we know the main character here MUCH more than we do with the last Disney Plus Star Wars show. Obi Wan Kenobi will still just be a limited series, though Kathleen Kennedy at least seems open to making more money...I mean...continuing the story if things work out well. We've heard Hayden and Ewan got along well and that everyone has been having a good time on the set, so kudos to Deborah Chow for avoiding at least that criticism. There is the matter of the shape of the Grand Inquisitor's head, but that can be fixed with CGI, if it even really needs it. I think waiting to see how Rupert Friend portrays the character is more important, but I also see the argument for making it more obvious that this isn't the "Sebastien Shaw Anakin" we saw at the end of Return of the Jedi. Maybe you didn't make that mistake, but some people have.

Filoni giveth Cad Bane and he taketh away.

Robert Rodriguez wrapped up the first (and only?) season of The Book of Boba Fett with some great action and some head scratching moments. Even casual fans of Star Wars continue to puzzle over the "mods" and their place in the show. The rancor should have been a show stopper, but Grogu is the money maker, let's not pretend we don't know it.\

Chain mail (obviously) won out over Yoda's lightsaber and Luke sent his potential first student on the first bus home. Fennec Shand continues to be the best assassin a life debt can buy. Taanti gives up his cycler. Cobb stews in bacta. Krrsantan's hide isn't for trade because he's still using it. This is the Way is more than a podcast, it's a battle cry of honor.

In the Name of Honor felt like an apt send off. Boba Fett remembered he was carrying the stick he made at the last moment. Din Djarin pulled out the Darksaber and actually used it. Grogu came back and used the Force TWICE. Garsa Fwip and her fantastic lekku are gone, man, just gone.

We had high hopes for the series, but the news about a short wait until Obi-wan Kenobi debuts on Disney Plus has us excited once again. Yes, it might feel too soon to jump off the Boba bandwagon, but--and it sounds awful to put it this way--the show is part of the past already.

It's a strange thing to decide you want to do a podcast to talk about your love for Star Wars and then feel like you have to apologize for your opinions just because some people can't handle opinions other than their own. It certainly feels limiting, but then you realize that those people aren't the ones you want to talk to in your everyday life anyway. It doesn't make great business sense, but calling it like you see it and not worrying about what others think certainly brings joy back into what's supposed to be entertaining in the first place.

Host Steve Loscalzo gives his filtered reactions to Chapter Seven and the series. They are filtered because he started taking notes Wednesday morning then scrapped them because they were mostly negative. After a second watch Wednesday afternoon, a great church service Wednesday night, then another rewatch Thursday morning, a new set of notes started to form. The negatives don't go away in the face of the positives, but it sure is more enjoyable to listen to someone talk about the bad AND the good. At least Steve hopes as much.

Last week, The Mandalorian makes an appearance. This week, the prospect of revisiting Grogu was on the table. Well, we didn't just get "baby Yoda" in Chapter Six. We got Master Luke, Ahsoka Tano, R2-D2, the debut of ant droids, Cobb Vanth...and we even got Cad Bane.

Steve has a soft spot for black outfit Luke. It's the Luke he emulated when playing with action figures. Everyone is free to choose their own hero. Even Grogu. I think his choice has already been made. I think he'll be wearing chain mail under his sackcloth and we'll get a Chamber of Mazarbul-like reveal. If you're a fan of The Lord of the Rings, you may know what I speak of, but I doubt it will be a spear.

Will Cad Bane walk away with the Darksaber somehow? Oh, I don't think he would use it, but I do think we could end up seeing Bane continue to be a thorn in Din Djarin's side into The Mandalorian season three. Will Luke come back to Tatooine? Will he stop by Ol' Ben's hutt to gather some more things and lead us into the Obi-wan Kenobi series? Will we get a series tag at all?

You can count This is the Way Podcast among the many that would gladly sing the praises of Bryce Dallas Howard this week after a fantastic installment of The Mandalorian, season 2.5 (though it masqueraded as The Book of Boba Fett season 1, episode 5). It's Mando heavy, like a lightsaber in the hands of a novice. There's callbacks to themes galore, even literally (like when Grogu's theme is heard on the star liner while Din Djarin is looking at the bindle bundle). Easter eggs? If you're looking for them, sure. Lore drops? Does the possibility of a mythosaur lurking in the waters below the mines of Mandalore appeal to you?

It turns out watching Star Wars: Rebels actually did pay off. Steve includes a string of clips in this one to show how Caleb Dume (aka Kanan Jarrus) explained the heft of the Darksaber to one Sabine Wren. You know, the young lady that gifted it to Bo-Katan Kryze and brought doom upon the planet? Just kidding. We don't believe in the curse. Unless there was one placed in the beskar hilt by Tarre Vizla through some Force imbuement. Hmmm...

Some might say the best episode of The Book of Boba Fett didn't even feature the namesake, but I have hope that all things will tie together in the end. This is the Way Podcast is pleased to tell you that the salty brine of disillusionment has been cleansed by the bacta of fewer anachronisms this week. Chapter 4 was an improvement in our book (of Boba Fett), but according to Steve, that wasn't a tall order.

How many bacta sessions are left? None if you take the dressing droid at its word. The emotional scarring may never heal, but the way Boba freely spreads his trust around makes me think he needs to fly to a planet with great psychologists and lay on their couch instead. Fennec Shand may owe him a debt for saving her life, but Fett sure did dangle himself and his ship on a rope, didn't he? He finally got to have all of the Mos Espa family over for dinner, though the rancor is still only eating ronto and Krrsantan seems to only like the wings.

This episode wasn't the best ever Star Wars entry, but it didn't have to be. The storm is gathering, after all. We have three more episodes to see what kind of disastrous cloud is approaching Tatooine. Maybe Boba can check is droid 401-K to see if he can use some credits to buy himself an army, maybe a group that lost a home on Nevarro a few months back. You know, the ones with jet-packs that like to call our podcast name out all the time.

Steve didn't care for this episode, not for one or two cosmetic issues, but for some real problems that even if fixed might only stick out more. The easter egg colored bikes might fit in the world George Lucas built, but they don't fit in on Tatooine. Neither does the poor fighting of a fearsome wookiee said to be a prized fighter. Nor do Hutts make sense slithering away without a threat. I'd bring up how slow the street chase was, but a certain film had one even worse.

If you liked the episode, please, continue to like it for whatever reason you choose. If, however, you choose to argue your point about how great it is to someone who doesn't, be prepared to lose that argument. If you try to bully or make fun of someone, even on the hellscape that is Twitter, you become the toxic fan you pretend you hate.

Podcasters are allowed to review and critique. So are you, but you can't claim that liking everything you see makes you the real fan. I'm quite sure my fandom runs very deep, so if you choose to listen, you have no choice but to accept that. You can still disagree and you might even make a great case. The Book of Boba Fett is two chapters in and some people say it's slow. It may end up being so, but maybe it's too early to expect all action. Favreau and Rodriguez clearly have an idea of where this show needs to go, but will we all be on board for Boba Fett's brand of rule or is the Tusken flashback stuff bogging down the real story? We dedicated ourselves to putting out a podcast as soon as possible and it turns out it took a new year to get it done. The Book of Boba Fett debuted on December 29th, 2021 and Steve was right there at 3 AM refreshing Disney Plus until the episode was available. The note taking began immediately and as usual, it's finding quiet time to record that holds up the process. All our observations are original and though we don't have co-hosts to bounce ideas off this season, we hope our listeners will join in and start conversations.

For example, what do you think about bacta's healing properties? Could it "heal" lost memories, but like a scar, alter them slightly secondhand? Is Fennec Shand the right person to rule from Jabba's throne and is that her destiny? Is Boba Fett better as a bounty hunter than a crime lord? Was there a more entertaining tribute than the mayor's heartfelt welcome?

Some people aren't fans of the flashbacks, but I'm not sure how else we can tell the story without them. I do hope the connection between the flashbacks and the lessons Boba is learning in "real time" become more obvious, because while we're all in on the first episode, we can't spend every single week with the traveling side show circus of sand folk.

Next week needs to answer the mystery of the Night Wind assassin attack and we should meet the mayor. Here's hoping Dokk Strassi meets an unceremonious end for his terrible tribute, Boba Fett spends some quality time flashing back to some flashdancing with Garsa Fwip, and we get treated to the majordomo apologizing to a Rancor.

It would seem that Steve's co-hosts are lost in the Great Pit of Carkoon and he'll have to take over Jabba's Palace on his own. December 29th, 2021 sees the addition of The Book of Boba Fett to Disney Plus and Star Wars lore and and there is nothing to concern us since Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have things under control. (What? Robert Rodriguez? That's fine, but...oh, blue motorcycle riding girl? Yeah. I see. Hmmm.) Well, almost nothing.

We reserve the right to love and hate anything we want and urge you to do the same. Will "R.R." ruin Star Wars for us? Not likely. Will he fall victim to hubris and tarnish the Beskar of Boba Fett? It's possible. Anything is possible. There are a few things we'd like to see in this show and if we're not given a look or an explanation for how Boba Fett survived the Sarlaac but ditched his armor, we're not going to be happy. Likewise we might need to see how Fennec Shand might be the black sheep of her crime family or at least why she's willing to dedicate her life to living on Tatooine. I mean, she was being hunted by a rookie bounty hunter in season one of The Mandalorian, am I right?

It has been a few weeks since we've been able to get you a podcast about Star Wars, but we've been busy with superhero stuff on the sister podcast, This is the Way Phase Four. There was a disturbance in the Force, however, and Steve wanted to get back to basics before The Book of Boba Fett became an all-consuming presence.

Steve has been taking his time watching one episode of Visions at a time and more often than not, he's been surprised by what he likes. Star Wars didn't seem like it would fit in the anime world, but The Ninth Jedi is another one of those positive experiences that dares you to dislike it. How interesting would it have been if the lightsaber just glowed with the Force affinity of the user and colorless when the Jedi wasn't ready? Forget those weird beaded braids and "bleeding" a crystal.

The soundtracks are really starting to prove to be one of the highlights and perhaps it shows just how important John Williams' score was to the original movie that started this all. The story and history and future of this created universe are "the complete package" and the executive producer and the writer/director for this installment show the proper reverence while taking Star Wars into new areas.

Episode Four is, in his opinion, a return to efficiency and efficacy in storytelling, much like his feelings on "The Duel." The new month brought a new trailer with it. Our first look at The Book of Boba Fett came across social media on Monday morning, November 1st, 2021.

Steve doesn't have perfect recall on everything he sees and saw the trailer for the first time on his phone. So he missed a few things that he had to catch at the computer. Disney Plus started off October with a Star Wars special. A holiday special. No, not that one.

In 2020 there was a Christmas themed LEGO special and now in 2021, it's Halloween's turn. Terrifying Tales "brick-or-treated" us with a trio of animated shorts wrapped together because Poe Dameron and BB-8 crash landed near Vader's castle on Mustafar.

A creepy caretaker, sneaky protocol droid, Jabba's cousin, zombie battle droids, and a tech savvy kid named Dean join the antics in the main story, while Ben Solo, Darth Maul, and Luke Skywalker serve as poor examples of using The Force in the morality tales (or cautionary ones, depending on your point of view). LEGO humor is on full display, so despite the horror vibes, Steve feels the TV-G rating is an appropriate one.

Are they really The Bad Batch? The show has billed the team as a bunch of misfits and mistakes, but it turns out they've been engineered by Nala Se. When the series started, it wasn't clear what direction Dave Filoni, Jennifer Corbett, and Brad Rau were taking the show, but now that a season two has been greenlit and a cloning scientist has been captured, it's starting to look like there really is a plan to tie things together with either The Mandalorian or perhaps the sequel trilogy.

Season Two's penultimate episode had some surprises, but not really with respect to Star Wars lore or long asked questions. So much content, so little time on screen! Robert Rodriguez made every moment count in The Tragedy and boy were there some tragic moments. We see legends come to live action, three ships explode, and a slew of Stormtroopers get blasted, clubbed, stabbed, blown up, rolled over, and thrown around a prison cell. The Mandalorian hitches a ride with a foundling's son, comes across a ghost, and can't seem to get his hands on the Child because of a Force phone call. Did we mention our favorite little green guy is in trouble? No, not Gore Koresh, he's neither our favorite, nor in trouble. He got eaten in the second season debut episode, remember?

Today's podcast episode is a bit different with Steve doing all the talking in this one, to combat the dreaded December scheduling curse. Hopefully, we can hear what Andy and Tim thought about...that one guy everyone used to love coming back from the dead or that kidnapping by...things.

This episode was amazing...ly hard to edit. A VERY loud hum pervaded every second of the podcast, but Steve, through trial and error, worked on every second of audio with editing software and handy dandy reddit suggestion posts to knock away the deafening roar of interference and leave the soft, dulcet tones of Tim and Andy.

This episode had it all--ear shattering hums, overmodulated audio, digitally corrupted...wait, wait, wait. Let's try this again.

This episode had it all--lightsabers, HK droids, legendary character actors, an appearance of a character so far only seen in cartoon form, a name drop of another character recently added to canon from legends material. Oh, and we found out an important part of The Child's backstory...AND HIS NAME! That's right folks! No more "baby Yoda"...unless you want to call him that, because hey, This is the Way!

One of these days, Steve will get the audio recording done right. He'll have to, if he doesn't want to sound like he's off to the side (he was) recording in a tile floor living room (he did) while Tim is sitting directly in front of the microphone (he was). It only serves to distract from the awesome (temporary?) mash-up of a couple of show themes to open and close the show. It was also a terrific episode directed by Bryce Dallas Howard.

Steve nerds out on animation-to-live action developments while Tim makes both great Star Wars observations and egregious 80s action movie trivia mistakes in a long, but off-the-cuff episode of This is the Way.

"Get to tha choppa!" There were apparently some Predator, Alien(s), and maybe even an Ant-man reference in this week's episode of The Mandalorian. Chapter 10 was unanimously disliked by the hosts. It just wasn't their cup of bone broth.

The series went "horror" and brought some Ralph McQuarrie illustrations back from the original trilogy discard pile...that perhaps should have stayed there? You'll get a brisk recap from the arachnophobes, sense the hosts searching for a way back from disappointment, and be reminded of all we still get to see according to the trailers.

Hey, we still love The Mandalorian here at This is the Way Podcast, but this was a definite "downer" of a week for Andy, Steve, and Tim.

Steve dared the depths of Jabba's Palace to rescue his podcasting friends Tim and Andy.
