The first Surgical Spirit multi-guest roundtable is here!
Welcome Dr. Shan Hussain, Dr. Suhail Hussain, and Dr. Paul Polyvios as they join The Third Eye Doctor for a hard-talkin', hard laughin' discussion of some of the most pressing topics in modern healthcare.
Prepare for frank and energetic discussion of topics ranging from racism in the NHS and medical education (MedEd) to the benefits and negatives of social media in healthcare, mental health and support for doctors (for example Doctors in Distress) and the looming threat of expansion in medical technology (MedTech).
But most importantly... who's going to lose their temper first?
There's only one way to find out - click play!
Dr. Suhail Hussain joins The Third Eye Doctor for a quietly incendiary discussion of matters of race, religion, culture and history in healthcare.
Can there be a stronger relationship with spirituality in healthcare? And what is the importance of religion in medicine across the UK and the wider world?
From implicit bias and lazy stereotyping of minority patients by doctors within (and outside of) the NHS, to experiences of outright racism, Dr. Hussain explains the need for decolonisation of medical practice and our own attitudes in an ever more culturally diverse world.
In this Yuletide episode of Surgical Spirit, the gloves are off as dangerous duo Dr. Haidar Al-Hakim and Dr. Shan Hussain unload about everything they love and hate about the state of NHS healthcare, their relationships with organisations such as the GMC, politically-bent patient perspectives, Shan's own recent experience of suffering a heart attack, the modern rise of scammy life coaches, trying not to swear on the radio, and loads more.
Frankly, it's not as negative as it sounds. Tune in and chill out!
We're getting controversial with Dr. Paul Polyvios in this episode of the Surgical Spirit podcast.

The value of professional hierarchies
How advances in medtech (medical technology) may negatively impact the human element of healthcare

In this episode, I'm joined by professional hypnotist, corporate entertainer, keynote speaker, and productivity and mindset consultant Serena Stone.
A stage magician and certified clinical hypnotherapist, Serena talks to me about the relationship between magic and hypnosis -- and how these quirks of the mind can be used in sales, business development, self-development, and so much more.
Drawing from her remarkable history and lived experience as a transgender woman, Serena offers up her top tips on ways to overcome personal hangups and the expectations of others, to create and promote your own free and truthful version of yourself.
In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Abdullah Albeyatti, CEO and Co-founder of MedicalChain and Discharge Summary.
A working GP, Dr. Albeyatti found himself stumbling upon a potential revolution in medical record-keeping -- one that could make use of blockchain technology to eradicate the common frustrations and misunderstandings that result from communication breakdown between patients and medical professionals.
Find out more about his work at https://medicalchain.com/ and https://ds.medicalchain.com/.
In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Mahibur Rahman of online medical training platform Emedica.
Disillusioned with the repetitive demands of his practice in medicine, Dr. Rahman considered leaving the industry behind – until a period of work at a hospice reconnected him with his love of caring for others.
A staunch supporter of doctors building a portfolio career, Dr. Rahman now runs the rapidly-growing online training platform Emedica, which connects budding GPs and medical students with the correct learning pathways for their chosen careers... and even those they'd never considered before.

In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Julian Nesbitt as we discuss why the future of therapy is online; why current mental health provisions are continually failing patients; the problems that exist in the current, unregulated online sphere of therapists and coaches; and the ups and downs of launching an innovative new business.
Dr. Nesbitt is the founder of www.dr-julian.com, an online psychotherapy and counselling platform that aims to set new standards and pave the way for a more efficient, cost-effective, and accessible approach to mental health support in conjunction with the NHS.
Dr. Fiona Day joins the show to talk about her ongoing work as a top-class Executive Coach and Mentor – helping doctors and healthcare professionals reach their full potential and understand the best possible paths for their careers.
At a time when Brexit looms and worries over the future of healthcare in the UK continue to mount, we chat about the importance of leadership and what it truly means, plus how changes in the modern economy mean it might be a bad idea to cling to ideas of a "traditional" career.
All that, plus much more!
