The stage musical adaptation of Moulin Rouge! officially opens at Broadway’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre July 25. The Alex Timbers-directed production began performances June 28.
Aaron Tveit and Tony Award winner Karen Olivo star as poet Christian and courtesan Satine, respectively, taking on the star-crossed roles played on screen by Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman in the 2001 Baz Luhrmann movie musical.
The Broadway cast also includes Tony nominee Danny Burstein as Harold Zidler, Tony and Olivier nominee Sahr Ngaujah as Toulouse-Lautrec, Tam Mutu as The Duke of Monroth, Ricky Rojas as Santiago, and Robyn Hurder as Nini.

Hal Prince, the Broadway royal and prodigious Tony winner who produced or directed (and sometimes both) many of the most enduring musicals in theater history, including “West Side Story,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Cabaret,” “Sweeney Todd” and “The Phantom of the Opera,” the longest-running show in Broadway history, died on Wednesday in Reykjavik, Iceland. He was 91.
A spokesman, Rick Miramontez, said Mr. Prince, who lived in Manhattan, had been on his way home from his residence in Switzerland when he died in Iceland after a brief illness.
Faye Dunaway fired from Broadway-bound ‘Tea at Five’ for slapping crew member
Oscar-winning actress Faye Dunaway has been fired from the Broadway-bound play “Tea at Five” for creating a “hostile” and “dangerous” environment backstage that left production members fearing for their safety, several sources told The Post.
Onstage at the Huntington Theater in Boston, where “Tea at Five” was trying out, Dunaway was playing Katharine Hepburn. Backstage she was channeling Joan Crawford, the deranged, abusive film star Dunaway played in the 1981 movie “Mommie Dearest.”
The July 10 performance was canceled moments before curtain because Dunaway slapped and threw things at crew members who were trying to put on her wig, sources say. Enraged at the cancellation, Dunaway began “verbally abusing” the crew. They were “fearful for their safety,” said one source.

Posting Letters To The Moon is a romantic, funny, and touching portrait of life during the early 1940s featuring readings of wartime letters between Oscar- nominated actress Celia Johnson (Brief Encounter) and her explorer and writer husband Peter Fleming (brother of James Bond creator Ian Fleming).
Their daughter, Lucy Fleming, alongside her own husband, Simon Williams, reads these touching and amusing letters that tell of Celia’s experiences during the war: coping with a large isolated house full of evacuated children, learning to drive a tractor, dealing with rationing, holidays in Cornwall where she took to surfing, and all the while accepting offers, when she could get away, to act — for David Lean, Noël Coward, wartime propaganda films, and ultimately starring in the classic film Brief Encounter.

The Price of Thomas Scott poses probing questions about prejudice, principles, pretense and progress. Whether you find Thomas Scott inspiring or enraging—you’re sure to find Elizabeth Baker’s drama entertaining and provocative.
Mr. Scott and his wife, son and daughter have long hoped to sell the declining family business so they can pursue dreams now out of reach. When a buyer finally appears and makes a rich offer—Scott hesitates. If he sells, the old shop will become a dance hall—and Thomas Scott believes that dancing is immoral.
The Price of Thomas Scott has had only one production (at the Gaiety Theatre in Manchester, 1913.) The Guardian praised Baker’s “very considerable merits as a dramatist,” and her “careful realism…a minute study of the surface detail of life, leaving the audience to draw what conclusions they liked from what was before them.” The Era agreed, describing the play as a “delightful piece of realistic drama…There is much interest and food for thought in the picture of Thomas Scott.”

The new musical This One's for the Girls, which officially opened October 27 following previews that began October 7 at St. Luke’s Theatre, has extended its run for a second time.

The stars sparkled last Friday in the premiere of the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles’ production of “Henry IV” in the Japanese Garden of the West Los Angeles VA campus.
Joe Morton, better known as the devious Papa Pope on ABC’s dearly departed “Scandal,” played the title role with the same verbal force and regal majesty. “The New Adventures of Old Christine” alum Hamish Linklater imbued prodigal son Prince Hal with a boyishly anxious charm. And Academy Award winner Tom Hanks — donning a fat suit and a Gandalfian gray hairpiece — shined as Sir John Falstaff, the loveable and rotund rogue of Shakespearean lore, in his L.A. stage debut directed by Tony Award-winning director Daniel Sullivan.
“For a lot of people, it wouldn’t be the role you would think of when you think of Tom Hanks,” Sullivan said over the phone on his way to an onstage rehearsal two weeks ago. “But he’s taken to it delightfully.”
L.A. critics agree. “A Falstaff for the ages” enthused Entertainment Weekly. “Worthy of applause all around,” wrote the Los Angeles Times, “… theatergoers seemed rapt by this Shakespearean vision, animated by acting royalty.”
Indeed, watching Hanks turn from bumbling drunkard to forlorn fatherly figure over the course of a star-studded evening was like watching a master class in Shakespearean acting. Henry IV may be king, but Hanks’ Falstaff is the ruler of this production.
Supporting his star power were a towering set of arches, a freshly manicured slope to serve as backdrop and a sturdy peninsula stage that was built, landscaped and assembled by 34 veterans in the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles’ Veterans in Art program.
