With everything that is happening in the world right now. A lot of people are battling depression silently. The rate of suicide rates have increased to an alarming level in 2020. It's good to speak out when depressed. Ask for help and most importantly remember never to give up.
Low self-esteem in children can affect them in so many ways. This can lead to poor body image, low motivation, alcohol and drug abus, early sexual activity and negative moods- feeling sad, anxious, ashamed air angry, relationship troubles or difficulty making friends. Parents can help their children by: setting up an example of having positive attitude when faced with challenges, showing their children lots of love and being positive about them as a person, acknowledge their children's feelings and help them in expressing their feelings in words etc.
The prevalence of bullying is a national crisis. One in every four students at school would experience bullying. Many workers experience bullying at their work place. Bullying can be perceived as being mean to someone over and over again. This is due to the other party's repeated misususe of power with the intention to cause deliberate psychological harm. This can happen anywhere at home, school, work or any other places. Seek for help if you feel bullied. Your mental health is very important. I was once a victim and the person who bullied me confessed that she was expecting me to quit. She wanted to know how I felt about her after that ordeal. She expected me to loose but I won. You can also overcome bullying. All the best.
Most young people from ages 15-29 are at risk of committing suicide, with the main risk factor being drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately, in Africa a large number of mental health problems remain undiagnosed and consequently unmanaged. This has been termed as a 'silent epidemic'. Early identification, treatment and care of people with emotional distress, mental and substance abuse disorders or individuals with chronic pain will prevent the occurrence of high suicide rates (Murunga, 2016)
