It’s pretty rare we get to see horror films at the cinema that we know almost nothing about and that was certainly the case this week. After Osgood Perkins’ last two films we knew we would be seated for whatever he made next so we were able to go see this film having only seen a teaser at the start of the year and it really added to the experience. We try to dance around spoiling this one during our discussion but Osgood is fast becoming one of the most intriguing directors out there. We also give our reactions to the Silent Hill trailer and whether it can continue the amazing resurgence the franchise is currently having.

One of the great auteurs of this generation is back with his latest work in the form of a new adaptation of the most classic of all creature stories. Del toro and Frankenstein truly is a match made in heaven and now via Netflix we finally get to see his take on Mary Shelley’s classic. Perhaps not the most ‘horror’ of films by modern standards but arguably it’s horror comes from a realer place and it is certainly an emotional watch. We end by discussing the latest physical release of the greatest French horror film ever made and why its impact is still so profound all these years later.

Happy Halloween! We sure have a wild one for you this week. Over 3 years ago we started ranking all of Wes Craven’s horror films. And now it’s finally over. Well this certainly wasn’t on our bingo card for 2023. A Spanish language spin off of Bird Box released 5 years after the last film. What a strange but actually very cool concept which is an interesting way to flesh out a world and setting. We dissect whether this sequel can deliver and also how much of Bird Box we actually remember at this point (very little). The cinema can give us some unbelievable highs when it comes to horror but it can also give us some of the most uninspired trash. Here’s hoping the 5th Insidious film can break the trend of the recent sequels and deliver a worthy successor to the original film. With a super interesting premise and returning cast members there is definitely a big reason why this film got made and we break down exactly where this movie worked and plenty of other areas that sadly didn’t work. Continuing from last week we are talking all about the magnificent return of Black Mirror. And this turned out to be a lot more horror focused than we expected. We have 3 episodes left to discuss and there sure is alot to get into. This season has completely broken the mould of what even is a Black Mirror episode anymore whilst still bringing the classic morality and ethics with a technology spin that we know and love so well. 4 years is a long time to wait for a new season but this sure was worth the wait. Making a welcome return to the cinema we are seeing pretty much the opposite of what we saw last week in Bones and All. Sold as a Romantic Cannibal Road film; we were pretty interested to see what the hell this film was. And boy were we not ready. This film is full of surprises and memorable moments that horror films need to be aware of. Art the Clown has already established himself firmly within the horror genre as a modern day horror icon and it’s about time he returns for more kills and good times. We were disappointed we couldn't watch this at FrightFest but are glad it’s finally time to see whether this follow up can deliver a sequel that feels like a long time in the making. The run time is a scary one though so we may need some good kills and laughs from Art to enjoy this one. Ending the show Mike gives his closing thoughts on the finale of The Walking Dead and that even in the end; this show will never truly die.

With our long overdue return to FrightFest just a mere few days away with just about find the time to squeeze in a streaming service film we’ve wanted to check out for a few weeks now. Prey is the 2nd Predator film we have now covered for the podcast and after really enjoying 2018’s The Predator; here’s hoping this latest entry can give us some more fun mindless action like the last entry did so well. Some thought it would never happen. The day has finally arrived. The UK finally gets blessed with the release of Jordan Peele’s 3rd film and we have actually seen Nope. Now comes the fun part where we actually get to talk about it. Surely after all the hype and waiting it was worth the wait? This podcast might shock you. After doing two episodes on Netflix tv shows recently which worked out fantastically well; we are back to the streaming service once again. However we are sadly not here to talk about Stranger Things again but actually the first ever live action tv series of one of our favourite horror franchises ever. We could talk about Resident Evil for days but we try to keep the conversation to this new adaptation and whether or not it does the name justice. After already seeing the return of such horror icons as Ghostface, Chucky and Michael Myers in recent months, now is the time for old boy Leatherface to make his glorious return; to the small screen. Netflix are forcing the big guy to come out of retirement and fight his classic arch nemesis of Sally even though a man of his age should just be chilling by the fireplace at this point. This franchise has been pretty unwatchable for at least a couple of decades now so can this finally turn the tide? Let’s find out! Taking a small detour away from horror this week to chat about the latest from one of the best directors in the world today. Guillermo Del Toro is of course no stranger to the horror crowd and his latest, Nightmare Alley, sees a noir style thriller that actually tackles some very dark themes with some brutal violence which is more than many horror films we cover actually do. We’ve already done 4 podcasts chatting about all the previous Scream films so it felt rude not to do this one. Of course we are here to chat about the biggest horror release of 2022 so far and the return of one of our all time favourite franchises in all of film. Scream (the fifth) looks to jel legacy with a new class and serve a mix of old and new while of course being as self referential as ever. We’re back! After taking a much needed break for the holidays we kick off 2022 with an absolute banger. Titane has been making waves everywhere since it’s debut at Cannes and has finally made it’s way over to the UK. Julia Ducournau’s follow up to Raw looks to be just as unsettling and visceral as it’s predecessor and we can’t wait to talk all about it. For our last cinema release of the year we have a pretty big one to discuss. Resident Evil is one of our favourite things across all media but sadly we’ve never had a film that remotely compares to the great heights of the many games over the years. However, with a director who clearly knows the source material and a pretty fun trailer; we really hoped we’d see Resident Evil done right on the big screen for the first time. After a fantastic run of new horror films (finally), we have decided to return to our ongoing Ranking Wes Craven series before getting back to business in a very busy looking July. What a film we have to talk about this week. Coming completely out of nowhere is a surprise sequel to one of our favourite films we’ve ever covered; One Cut of the Dead. This new bluray release comes with the new ‘in Hollywood’ sequel which sees the cast and crew return to recreate the magic of the original film. We go over everything from sleeping in coffins to authentic American diners and give our verdict on this stealth release that seems to have completely gone under the radar. Ending our current cinema run for a few weeks is another sequel in a franchise that has brought us many highs and many lows to date. We’re celebrating our 250th show in style. Finally. After all the months waiting. All the delays. All the times we’ve had to avoid the trailer in cinemas. We have finally seen A Quiet Place Part II. The big one has finally arrived! After waiting for over a year our return to the cinema just so happens to be with a film we’ve been dying to see from the moment the first trailer dropped. So many questions are about to be answered regarding Chris Rock as a serious actor, Darren Lynn Bousman returning to the franchise that made him, a Saw film without Jigsaw etc. But most importantly, is it any good? After we had so much fun talking about Wes Craven recently and having a bad experience with on demand horror last week we decided to continue our ongoing series as we work our way through the great man’s entire horror filmography, break down the good and the bad and ultimately rank all the films. This franchise was seminal for us as young horror fans (especially the sequel which we’ll get to at a later date) and we go over everything from amazing dog actors to the stunning finale that leaves us breathless every time. This is it. We send out the year in style. For our 5th annual end of year special we have so much to get through. Of course the main offering is our official top 10 horror films of 2020 as decided by the both of us. In a year sadly marred by delays we were somewhat surprised at how many great horror films we did actually see this year. Last year saw a battle between Midsommar and Us for the top spot; but who takes the crown this year? We also go over some listener picks of what you guys have been enjoying the most this year. Ending the show we give out our 8 special Best of awards including Best Death and Best Surprise which is always a fun time choosing a winner and two runners up. This is our longest episode to date so we really hope you guys enjoy it. Continuing the trend to end the year of actually seeing films we wanted to see at the beginning of this strange year is a sequel to one of our favourite foreign language films we have covered for the show to date. Kicking off spooky season is a film by Darren Lynn Bousman which sadly isn’t the new Saw film but instead is an intriguing story which we hope can deliver on it’s cool premise. This was a nice way for us to be reintroduced to Darren’s work before he hopefully delivers the best horror film of 2021. With just a couple of weeks before our momentous show we are back with a cinema release film which we sadly missed late last year. With Countdown now available on every platform possible, now was the perfect time to see if we missed a hidden gem from the amazing year that was 2019 or if this was one best forgotten. In the news this week we get a new release date for Edgar Wright’s upcoming flick. We get excited for the potential of Chucky on TV. Gretel and Hansel is a dark new take on an already very dark fairy tale so things are about to get really dark. Hopefully soon there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just when you thought we would run out of movies to watch for the show we come right back with yet another digital release that seemingly came out of nowhere. This week we discuss 1BR and whether suburbia truly is the place to be right now. Elsewhere this week; Spiral gets a new release date and I’m not sure how Matt is gonna cope for the next year waiting for this film. Antebellum also gets bumped to August and we hope we actually get to see this one at the cinema then. Ending the show this week; Mike once again tries to get Matt to watch Basket Case and 2019’s most talked about film gets brought up once again as we clearly are trapped in the Overlook hotel at this point, forced to talk about Doctor Sleep for all eternity.

I know we say it alot but FrightFest truly is the gift that keeps on giving. We are back to discuss another new horror release and this sees the 20th film we have reviewed that was featured at just last year’s festival alone. Truly staggering the amount of new horror we get from this festival every year. With this also being an Arrow Video release we were particularly excited to check out this crazy looking Russian film about meeting the parents gone the worst way possible. Elsewhere this week; Sam Raimi is officially directing Doctor Strange 2 which surely opens the door for Bruce Campbell to join the MCU. Overlook is a new show coming to HBO Max which makes sure that damn hotel isn’t going away anytime soon. And ending the show Matt discusses watching Devs; the brand new sci-fi show from Alex Garland that had completely gone under our radar under recently that’s definitely worth checking out.

What a crazy 7 days the last week has been. Amidst all the madness; we are here to discuss the latest horror release to hit cinemas and the last for the foreseeable future. After already causing controversy prior to release; The Hunt is now out for people to make up their own mind about and we give our verdict on a film which will certainly be remembered going forward. Elsewhere this week; the news section is unsurprisingly dominated by the effect the Coronavirus is having and going to have on both the horror world and this podcast going forward with films being postponed indefinitely and productions being shut down. Though we do have some more positive news also as one of our favorite directors has a film scheduled for release this year which we had no idea about and we get excited for his sophomore effort. 2020 starts here guys. After a pretty quiet start to the year so far in the horror world we are back to discuss the first big theatrical horror release of 2020. We kick things off by letting you know how you can win Cult of Chucky on bluray in our latest giveaway. The bulk of the show sees us run down the 10 best horror films of 2017 in ascending order. Not every film can make the cut and this year was a particularly strong one with the final list being all killer no filler. Next up is some listener questions before giving out some special awards including Best Death and Best TV Show. Finally rounding off this feature length show; we briefly go over our top 10 games of the year in what has also been a landmark year. 2017 has been a blast. See you in 2018!

Jigsaw is back to take back Halloween. Does he succeed in his mission? Hear our thoughts on what will surely be a monumental show for us as we give our verdict on if Saw is truly back where it belongs. In our childish anticipation of Jigsaw returning this Halloween; we thought now would be the perfect time to begin to look back on the franchise and give our thoughts on the highs and lows of Saw so far. This show will focus on the first three films as we cover everything from the original’s inception, how they successfully transitioned into a franchise with it’s sequel; and finally Jigsaw’s untimely demise in Saw III. This is also the last show before we attend Frightfest 2017 so we are full of excitement as this year’s festival begins once again.
