Next FONIA Radio Show (61): we see what happens... in 2022!

View Details

This surely was a heavy year for almost all of us—ups and downs, weirdness, and so much anger and emotion. After a longer hiatus, we decided to go back to the one thing that has always made us happy and filled us with sunshine: doing a live radio set at OKJ.This time, no interview, no special guest—just a collection of vinyl, some drinks, and a few peeps in the studio.Spinning records, sipping drinks, and laughing out loud while playing back to back.Maybe there’s a bit more soul in this one, with the hope that the new year will bring you all the warmth, peace, and love you’re longing for.We thank you for taking the time to listen in, and we wish you a Merry Christmas—or any other holiday you enjoy. And please don’t forget:be good to yourself.

Equipped with somewhat lower voices than usual (thanks to the aftermath of G&T’s and Gibsons) we met with Jonny aka LUSO (@lusomusica) on a crisp cold day somewhere in a Scottish Office building for a chat all around Jonny’s heritage his path from Texas to Europe and his main influences all from music over architecture and visual arts to ice cream and pizza. After our conversation, LUSO dished out a hand-curated collection of tracks. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy our special greetings from Caledonia, The Land of the Brave.Thank you all for listening. Be good to yourself!

Welcome y’all to our 61st instalment of the Fonia Radio Show and with that to our special mega package to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our show. We would have never thought that out of the one-off idea to just play our favourite jazz records in a radio station would become a regular show not to mention a show with so many guests!! When we prepared for this special anniversary show we, again, were amazed as so many times before how much care and fun our former guests would pack into small presents they sent our way by ways of sound and music. Thank you all for being part of this for such a long time and with that we look forward to more shows to come and now enjoy the show. Thank you all for listening! Be good to yourself!

Welcome to the 60th instalment of the Fonia Radio Show. We looked for this special number for a special guest and were happy and thrilled to meet with DJ, selector, collector, artist, traveller and teddy bear doctor Daniel W. Best(@bestworks) right in the center of Berlin. As this (second weird in a row) year turns slowly to an end it was our special pleasure to talk with Daniel about all those exciting, hilarious and annoying things past, present and future. As with a mix set in which you always find new things, you have not heard before and which push new doors open for you - we took a ton of insights, references and tracks from this session. So sit down, relax and enjoy two hours of crate digging filled with conversation and sounds. Again for me this all showed “Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common.”

Thank you all for listening, have a great, peaceful holiday season ahead and we hope to meet all of you again in 2022!

Our special thanks go out to Mr.Sperling, thanks for the magic number, this show would not have happened without it!

We welcomed in our radio show: ESO! from Berlin. The artist's name stands for „Das Elektronische Schwingkreis Orchester“. It is the project of composer, music producer, bass player, disc jockey and journalist Joerg Henning(@terribleinc) and sound engineer, vinyl cutter, and mastering specialist Frederic Stader(@djmaxximus). For Joerg Henning this project closes a circle back to his early childhood, being raised in a house dominated by classical music and having lived through youth culture from punk, reggae to techno this album means returning to the roots of his love for music considering all aspects of his own musical journey since then. Together we had a lot of fun and talked about water, the early Berlin Rave days, and his love for ambient music.

In our first session after the lockdown, we welcomed IN THE STUDIO (again) @Spindyrella from Leipzig! Friendly weather, friendly guests, friendly drinks and so we enjoyed a friendly chat all around mysterious record collectors, early days in zoos and many many other things! Enjoy the well-curated mix, this one pairs splendidly with this great summertime all around. This all would probably not have been possible without the gracious donation of vinyl by @don-the-disco-dude, so big shout outs go to Donald D. Thank you all for listening and be good to yourself!

From a small village in the thuringian forest @kAUBL conquers the world with a taste of dub and afro beats. In his youth he started listening to metal and then quickly discovered the deep bass. Numerous synonyms followed and all ended in a musical cooking pot, from which he made a label called Glenn Dancer (@glenn-dancer-records). Check his afro tunes and rare grooves directly from his vinyl collection.

We met Lucas Croon in April and from that moment on we decided to visit him in person. In the middle of this beautiful summer, we went to Düsseldorf to breathe in a breeze of music after 20 years. Voila, here comes a new FONIA radio show. Listen up, because we think there are very interesting musical developments to discover here since Kraftwerk, Rheingold and La Düsseldorf.

Stabil Elite (@stabileliteofficial), Bar - music projects that were created under the wings of Lucas Croon(@lucas-croon). Interesting constellations for the history-conscious renewal of Düsseldorf's musical scene - above all with a synthesizer sound in proper style, which does full credit to the city's name.

Drum roll!! For our 50th show, we welcomed Alex Pehlemann. Alex, born in Berlin-Lichtenberg switched a career as a ringer for the army club "Vorwärts" Frankfurt/Oder with the wild world of pop culture in the GDR.

Since 1993 he publishes the "Zonic", the magazine for "Kulturelle Randstandsblicke & Involvierungsmomente" and travels (very often eastwards) from Leipzig/Connewitz into the world, always checking for anything obscure and "schräg".

He told us what brought him from Greifswald to Leipzig and all the up and downs and turn arounds he experienced in growing into the author, curator, DJ and networker he is today.

If you make it to Leipzig, check the salon "Kulturny dom Lipsk/Salon Similde" where he spreads the word of "Neue Sorbische Kunst".

Check out Alex' selection of his favorite "Schräge Musik". This certainly goes well with a good old pilsener. Enjoy the show!

For the last show in the year 2017, the holidays just around the corner and so with a somewhat mellow mood and mind we welcomed in the radio show (@lutz-hartmann) for some smokey beers (yea, that Schlenkerla from Bamberg).

We talked with Lutz about his musical journey – starting with jazz played by his grandfather – via dji’ing and mixing to producing and running an own label (oldnew records - @oldnewrecords).

Enjoy some interesting insights into the world of music and some giggles and laughs (as always). After all this chitchat Lutz played a set which perfectly resembles the label motto of oldnewrecords “Fxxk Genres” (but keep it groovy).

Thanks for stopping by Lutz!

Now with the lunar year of the dog just out the door, we wish you all (wherever you are) the best of luck, fortune, big smiles, always a glass (or two), keep your headz up and be good to yourself!

The story starts with the fonia radio show 25 - that was the initial spark that lights the show you can hear here today. No fakes and as close to the original as possible, so basically the opposite what usually happens if @stachy takes on a track and grinds that one through the sound mincer ... It is a kind of proof of heritage for @stachy, as he has never really been a "jazz-dj" (but what does it mean to be a dj these days anyways?) This summer in cracow - the polish city kraków - THE cultural center of poland. Very close by the tourist routes there is a old jewish quarter - kazimierz. There it was, a shop transformed living room in a first floor appartment. And inside: vinyl!!! A person living there, a person with knowledge and a very fine selection of the last 40 years of pressed gold from poland. To make a long story short - that was the goldmine @stachy digged all the fine stuff in this show: polski jazz z winylu. for you.

On a cold afternoon close to christmas we met with Pete Onthecorner (@onthecornerrecords) in a noisy little asian restaurant in London for tea and looong chats all around his way from an anthropological music collector, over being a worker for a human rights organization in Africa to a founder of an own record label. We talked for hours, but had to squeeze all that into a small q&a to leave room for an exclusive Pete Onthecorner mix. So sit back,

relax and enjoy the journey!

Thank you all for listening! Be good to yourself!

Sometimes one is just not enough, right? Following our never-ending craving for stories told by sounds we invited for the last show in 2015 DJ Légères. Again (we had him in the studio about a year ago for the first time)we had the fun to spend an entire session with him in the radio studio as he took us to an acoustic travel around the world in 2 hours. We hope you will enjoy the ride! Thank you all for listening! And the best wishes to you and your loved ones for the coming 2016!!!

Welcome to the 35th installment of the fonia radio show. This time we turned once more to asia with the focus on ... Singapore! Since we knew only few things from earlier visits to Singapore like chili crabs and parks and stuff, so the more questions we had for our special guest: Dean, aka Funk Bast*rd (@funk-bast-rd)designer, architect and a founding member of the record label Darker Than Wax (@darkerthanwax)!

So sit back, relax and enjoy chit chats all around Singapore, Beats, Arts, Food and on top of that all an exclusive mix by Funk Bast*rd!

Thank you all for listening!

Sometimes all the things you like come together :-) That's how it was for us with the 34th session of the fonia radio show. As we both inannia and foolong LOVE sneakers and LOVE caps of all kinds and LOVE fat beats - what better choice could we have to invite a person uniting all three of those treats? Jan Hünniger aka SMFX is such a person, rooted in hiphop beats, all hands on the sowing machine to engineer outstanding und unique (yeah there is only 1 of each kind) 5panel caps AND collecting sneakers ... AND AND AND ... So we hope you will enjoy this session as much as we did !!! Thank you all for listening. Be good to to yourself!

Curious about the caps? -> http://www.smfx-skateboards.com/headwear.html - check it out

Sunny weather, a nice meadow in the local park, some beers and most of all a guest who likes to introduce his world of arts & beats! What more can one ask? Well there is of course the add on treat of a special mix by mr. 3ZOO (say @dreizoo). We really enjoyed this show a lot and we hope you will like it as well!

Thank you all for listening! Be good to yourself!

One of the first warm days this year in Thuringia! So what to do when everyone else is out in the parks and hills bbq'ing sausages and the empty city is all quiet? We packed up all the noisy vinyl we love to head-nod to and locked ourselves with some Augustiner Helles into the radio station. A happy, frolic first of may, 2015.

Thank you all for listening! Be good to yourself!
