Welcome to Thursday Thoughts at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let's think about this.
Mortals join the mighty chorus Which the morning stars began
Where were you When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Job 38:4a, 7 ESV
How cool is that? The writer invites us to join that song that the morning stars began. A couple episodes ago we contemplated that star song. Now we are being invited to join it! Mere mortals singing along with the mighty chorus of the stars. What are you waiting for?
Father love is reigning o’er us Brother love binds man to man
Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 1 Peter 1:22 ESV
Our souls are purified as we obey. The Father is love. Our obedience creates the possibility of loving from a pure heart. We surrender to His reign by loving each other. The mingling of obedience, purity and love is intriguing and seems to be self-perpetuating. Love and obey.
Ever singing march we onward Victors in the midst of strife
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?…No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:35, 37 ESV
Even in strife we continue to march onward, ever singing with joy. How are we able to do that? Because we conquer all those difficulties through Him who loved us. His love fuels our overcoming joy by keeping us ever connected to Him, the Source of love and joy.
Joyful music lifts us sunward In the triumph song of life
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! Psalm 95:1-2 ESV
And so we sing. Joyfully sing. We are filled with joy because His love saves us and lifts us into His presence and praise. Give Him thanks for all He has done, not the least of which is giving you a reason to sing and the capacity to do so. Joyful hallelujah!

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let's think about this.
Thou art giving and forgiving Ever blessing ever blest
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Psalm 103:8 ESV
Mercy is not getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we do not deserve. God is merciful and gracious because He is giving and forgiving. He is always blessing us and thus is worthy of blessing. When was the last time you blessed the Lord by giving Him praise?
Wellspring of the joy of living Ocean depth of happy rest
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13 ESV
We can attempt to stir up joy from within, or we can look for a source beyond ourselves. Rather than driving to conjure up joy, we would be well served to look to the wellspring, the source of true joy, God himself. Pursuing him brings rest and peace to our souls.
Thou our Father Christ our Brother All who live in love are Thine
In love He predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, Ephesians 1:4b-5 ESV
The last two words of verse four begin the translation of this complete sentence and thought. We are adopted by the Father because of what Christ has done. He does so in love and invites us to live that way. This is His will for us, to live in love. Nothing brings greater joy.
Teach us how to love each other Lift us to the joy divine
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:7-8 ESV
Living in His love, learning how to love one another, gives us a taste of heaven and lifts us to the joy divine. Certainly there are many who love well and have joy who do not know God, but the kind of love and joy we are speaking of can only be found in God.

All Thy works with joy surround Thee Earth and heav'n reflect Thy rays
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy! Psalm 96:11-12 ESV
Again, and again in the Psalms, we read how creation itself calls us to worship our Creator God. It reflects His glory and in so doing instructs our praise. When you imagine a scene like the one described here, does it make you want to join in the praise?
Stars and angels sing around Thee Center of unbroken praise
When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?Job 38:7 ESV
The Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and described the earliest worship as God began to lay the foundations of the earth and the stars and angels uttered praise. Since those first moments of worship they have never stopped continually offering adoration.
Field and forest vale and mountain Flowery meadow flashing sea
For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12 ESV
From the most profound creations to simpler ones, everything in creation is rejoicing and then invites us to join them. In this prophecy Isaiah gives hope to the people of God that even though we may face difficulty our Lord will have compassion on us and give us joy.
Chanting bird and flowing fountain Call us to rejoice in Thee
Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word! Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars! Beasts and all livestock, creeping things and flying birds!. Psalm 148:7-10 ESV
Birds and livestock, sea creatures and the watery home, fire, storms, mountains and trees all call us to rejoice in God. How? By their mere existence, variety, beauty and power. Everywhere we look the invitation can be seen if we have eyes to see. Do you?

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Psalm 100:1-2 ESV
We are commanded to offer our praise to God so to do so is simply responding and obedience. How do we make that praise, joyful? We consider the One to whom it is offered. He is the God of glory, the Lord of love and He alone is worthy of our joyful adoration.
Hearts unfold like flow'rs before Thee Opening to the sun above
…Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Matthew 6:28b-29 ESV
Our praise should come naturally. Our hearts should mirror the ease of flowers as they open themselves to the sun. They intrinsically know the value of what is shining down upon them and we can as well if we will simply open our hearts to it, to Him. Open your heart.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness Drive the dark of doubt away
But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. Malachi 4:2a ESV
Maybe some sin or sadness is making it difficult to receive the joy inducing warmth of God s love. He wants to melt those clouds and drive the dark of doubt away. Will you let him? If you will, you will be like those calves being released from a stall, free to leap with joy.
Giver of immortal gladness Fill us with the light of day
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17 ESV
This is not some fleeting happiness, but an eternal joy. It does not simply warm us on the outside, but from within our souls. Nothing changes God's desire to fill you with His light. What needs to change us. How can you position your heart to receive his light today? Podcast 58.5 Transcript, 6.5
Welcome to Thursday Thoughts at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let's think about this.
Teach me to love Thee as Thine angels love,
…I heard around the throne…the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing! Revelation 5:11-12 ESV
To love God with this kind of adoration we draw inspiration from His messengers who never cease to give Him the praises due His name. They are undivided in their affections toward the living God. Ask the Spirit to help you mimic them.
One holy passion filling all my frame;
My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. Psalm 84:2 ESV
In this verse the Psalmist seems to be mimicking the angels love, his soul, heart and flesh longing to be in God's presence and sing His praises. Can you with sincerity say you long for God's presence to the point of fainting? I can not, but I want to. Ask the Spirit to give you such a consuming passion.
The kindling of the heav'n-descended Dove,
And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:3-4 ESV
And what a beautiful picture these last lines create. Welcoming the flames of God's consuming fire into our lives. The Spirit is the kindling, the substance which makes getting the fire started much easier. Ask Him to reveal anything in your life that would hinder His kindling work.
My heart an altar, and Thy love the flame.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1 ESV
This confuses the imagery a bit making my life the sacrifice instead of my heart the altar, but it helps illustrate the point. God's love is what sets the kindling of the Spirit on fire, and this activity transpires on the altar of my heart. Ask the Spirit to light that fire in your heart today and every day!

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let's think about this.
Teach me to feel that Thou art always nigh;
Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord. Jeremiah 23:23-24 ESV
Rhetorical questions. Whether close at hand or far away, God is there, seeing us in what we think are secret places. He fills heaven and earth. Even when we might be inclined to run from Him we can not. Instead, ask Him to help you live with an ever-increasing awareness of His presence.
Teach me the struggles of the soul to bear,
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12 ESV
The Spirit is waiting to give us the power we need to bear the weight of every struggle our soul will face. And to what end, in so doing we demonstrate our love for God and receive the crown of life. Ask the Holy Spirit to bless you with the strength to remain steadfast under trial.
To check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh;
Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. Hebrews 3:12 ESV
Doubt and unbelief are so similar they can be mistaken for one another. Belief requires trust. Trust checks doubt and rebellion at the door, for you can exercise faith to submit to one you trust. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas where doubt or rebel may be standing at the door of your heart.
Teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 1 John 5:14 ESV
This kind of confidence gives us the patience to wait for the answer when we may be inclined to doubt if our prayer was even heard. It also gives us the opportunity to carefully examine our motives in the event we are asking something outside of God's will. Ask the Spirit to give you such confidence.

Hast Thou not bid me love Thee, God and King?
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:16 ESV
Rhetorical question. Of course He bids us to love. We know this because He loved us first, then invites us to abide or live in that love so He, and His love, may abide in us. If you know that love, are you living your life responding to it?
All, all Thine own, soul, heart and strength and mind.
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' Mark 12:30 ESV
The Great Commandment, or at least the first half of it. Love for God, demonstrated by a love for all the things associated with God, is the command. This is not as easy as it seems becuase other things compete with our affection for God. What is competing for yours?
I see Thy cross; there teach my heart to cling:
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 ESV
We cling to the cross because we not only see it, but understand what it represents to us. God first loved us by paying the penalty our sin required. When we truly see the cross, we learn to cling. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach your heart to cling to the cross.
Oh, let me seek Thee, and, oh, let me find!
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 ESV
How can I cling to someone or something I am still seeking to find? I purpose to cling to that which I have understood and known with the hope that this close proximity fosters a longing for even more, for there is always more of God's love than I have apprehended. Ask the Holy Spirit to call you deeper into that love.

Podcast 58.2 Transcript, 6.2 REPLAYED
Welcome to Thursday Thoughts at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let's think about this.
I ask no dream, no prophet ecstasies,
And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; Acts 2:17 ESV
This stanza contrasts the things for which we often long because they appear so desirable, with the thing for which we should truly long. The first three lines focused on the things we determine to not ask for, in this first line, dreams and visions. Determine to not seek them.
No sudden rending of the veil of clay,
For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away…For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:9-10-12 ESV
Our flesh impairs our ability to clearly see the things of the Spirit. Though it would be wonderful to experience an abrupt tearing of the curtain the flesh creates so we could discern the things of the Spirit, like we will one day, the hymn chooses not to ask for this either. Can you come to terms with having to deal with the weaknesses of the flesh?
No angel visitant, no opening skies,
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased! Luke 2:13-14 ESV
Angels are often mentioned in the Scriptures, and the skies opened to show something of God's purposes on more than one occasion, never quite like this moment over Bethlehem pastures. Even still, there is something we would prefer even more in regard to the Spirit's work. Can you imagine that?
But take the dimness of my soul away.
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14 ESV
And finally the writer gets to what he does want, clarity of soul, something that is impossible beyond the work of the Spirit. Our souls are dim, slow to grasp the surpassing greatness of our God. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand His work and ways.

Podcast 58.1 Transcript, 6.1 REPLAYED
Welcome to Thursday Thoughts at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let's think about this.
Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26 ESV
The heart is the seat of our intellect, will and emotions. When we ask the Holy Spirit to settle on our hearts, we are asking Him to teach us, and bring to remembrance everything Jesus said. Ask the Spirit to instruct your intellect, will and emotions.
Wean it from earth; through all its pulses move.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:16 ESV
One use of wean means to free from an unusually unwholesome habit or interest. The flesh is inclined to those very things and searches for them among the materials of earth. Walking in the Spirit, allowing Him to direct every pulse of our intellect, will and emotions, is the antidote for this malady. Ask Him to be that for you today.
Stoop to my weakness, mighty as Thou art,
All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. 1 Corinthians 12:11 ESV
The Spirit works in us to produce fruit that is beneficial for our lives and those around us, including the Church. We need His empowering because we are weak. He gives to each according to His will Ask Him to give you power from on high to engage in God's will and work.
And make me love Thee as I ought to love.
And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:5 ESV
What a beautiful image this evokes! God's love poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. We are incapable of loving God as we ought to without His help. We may approximate it but we will always fall short. Ask the Spirit to help you love Him.

No more we doubt Thee glorious Prince of life
Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this? John 11:25-26 ESV
We declare our faith in Jesus, even while we acknowledge there was a time when we doubted. Jesus asked us disciples plainly and He asks you today, do you believe? Answer Him in your own words.
Life is nought without Thee aid us in our strife
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 ESV
He provides comfort to us so we can provide comfort for others. What does that comfort avail us if we do not have life? So He starts by giving us life, then gives comfort.
Make us more than conquerors Through Thy deathless love
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:37 ESV
We endure many trials in life but can any of them separate us from the undying, unending love of God that is in Christ Jesus? The Scripture answers that question plainly. No. Jesus makes us more than conquerors.
Lead us in Thy triumph To Thy home above
And raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, Ephesians 2:6 ESV
Giving us everything we need to overcome our most difficult days is not all that Jesus has accomplished. He has not only raised us up to life, but also an eternal inheritance in heaven with Him. He has seated us, past tense, with Him. We wait for what already is.

Lo Jesus meets us Risen from the tomb
Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene After these things he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. Mark 16:9, 12 ESV
The resurrected Christ met many of His disciples face-to-face before his ascension. Here we read of Mary, and two others, and even though we do not see Him face-to-face, we know Jesus lives and meets us also.
Lovingly He greets us Scatters fear and gloom
And behold, Jesus met them and said, Greetings! And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, Do not be afraid . Matthew 28:9-10a ESV
It is hard to imagine what those disciples must have felt when they heard the familiar voice of Jesus greet them. They responded with affection and adoration. How I long to fall at His feet and worship Jesus!
Let the church with gladness Hymns of triumph sing
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16 ESV
We have a reason to celebrate, and one of the many ways we do that is by singing. We sing glad songs of triumph because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
For her Lord now liveth Death hath lost its sting
O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 ESV
No victory. No sting. Even though we may die we will be victorious over death and it will have no painful, burning effect on us, like the piercing fang of a venomous cobra.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Deuteronomy 6:5 ESV
It is love which motivates all of our offerings. We are to love God with heart, soul, mind and strength Jesus taught us in the Gospels quoting this verse. When we choose to love Him we do so in response to His love for us. Are you offering your love to God today?
At Thy feet its treasure store
And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. Luke 7:37-38 ESV
He who has been forgiven much loves much. That is what Jesus taught the Pharisees through this encounter. Offer your love to Jesus today.
Take myself and I will be
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1 ESV
Again, we offer ourselves to God in response to His offering Himself for us. This first part of the stanza recaps how we are to offer, love, and this part what, everything. This sums up all we have been considering these last six weeks. Offer yourself to God today.
Ever only all for Thee
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect Romans 12:2 ESV
Then as He transforms us we continually offer ourselves. Forever, our offering never ceases. Only, to no one else but God alone. All, holding nothing back but offering all to Him. This positions us to know and do His will which confirms we have truly given ourselves to Him.

Take my will and make it Thine
Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground! Psalm 143:10 ESV
Here is another challenging transaction. The Psalmist asks simply to be taught His God's will, but the hymn writer asks for an exchange. I suppose you could argue they have the same result but I like the surrender of the latter. Both lead to level ground though, so yield today.
It shall be no longer mine
Saying, Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done. Luke 22:42 ESV
Jesus prays and voices a slightly different approach. Where His will was not the Father's He surrendered. There is no exchanging of wills, simply surrender. However you choose to approach this today, being taught, or an exchange, determine to surrender your will to God's.
Take my heart it is Thine own
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:22 ESV
Draw near with a true heart. How do we make our hearts true? By having them sprinkled clean with the pure water of the Holy Spirit. This happens when we draw near in full assurance of faith, confident that God can and will do the work of making our hearts His. Offer yours today.
It shall be Thy royal throne
The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 1 Timothy 1:5 ESV
Here is the purpose of offering our hearts, love. Loving God and loving others. When we make our heart His throne He reigns and rules and helps us love with a pure heart, good conscience and sincere faith. Offer your heart to God today to make it His royal throne.

Take my silver and my gold
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV
The offering of our bodies now turns outward, yet not entirely. Though the measure is the use of our money, the underlying factor is our heart which we will look at more closely in the next stanza. So for here, ask yourself if you are willing to put all your resources at God's disposal.
Not a mite would I withhold
Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. And he said, Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on. Luke 21:1-4 ESV
The widow's mite. What a challenge! To give all we have to live on. That is a remarkable act of faith which is impossible without God's help. Giving not out of abundance but poverty. Lord show us how to mirror this in our lives.
Take my intellect and use
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…2 Corinthians 10:5 ESV
From our money to our minds, we are called to put our resources to use for Christ. Have you committed your intellect to God. Maybe you do not feel like you are wise, but the question remains. Will you commit your thought life to God bringing Him glory where no one else sees?
Ev'ry pow'r as Thou shalt choose
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16 ESV
Our thought life is reflected in our actions though, so there is a way in which it is revealed. Allow your wisdom to help you make the best use of your time with a constant awareness that the days we live in are evil so we must be careful how we walk. Commit your intellect to God.

Take my voice and let me sing
I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:2 ESV
We know what it is to be glad, but exult? It means to show triumphant elation or jubilation. That is a serious commitment, but God is certainly worthy of it. We should sing His praises because He deserves them. Have you made the decision to use your voice to sing praises to God?
Always only for my King
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. Psalm 104:33 ESV
The commitment to use our voice goes beyond the times we are gathered in church to offer our praise. The Psalmist says as long as I live and while I have being . Are you devoted to use your voice to sing to the Lord your God always and only? Maybe the latter is the toughest one.
Take my lips and let them be
Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Hebrews 13:15 ESV
Not only should we use our singing voice for God's glory but our speaking voice as well. We should continually offer Him the sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that acknowledge His name. We use our lips for other purposes often, so learn to be quick to ask His forgiveness.
Filled with messages from Thee
I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O Lord. Psalm 40:9 ESV
Hopefully we are all growing in our ability to fill our lips with His messages so we too can make such a bold statement. May the use of our lips extend beyond the great congregation and find expression in the wider world as we make known the glad news of deliverance.

Take my hands and let them move
Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun. Ecclesiastes 2:11 ESV
There is no shortage of things into which we can engage our hands, and many will leave us feeling like wise Solomon. Wiser still is the one who determines to offer their hands to God for His purposes. Will you offer your hands to God and His purposes today?
At the impulse of Thy love
If you love me, you will keep my commandments John 14:15 ESV
Guided by His love and our response of love. What does that look like? It may very closely resemble the hands that toil like Solomon's but there is no vanity in the work of hands consecrated to God's way of love. Commit your hands to move as His love directs.
Take my feet and let them be
You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip. Psalm 18:36 ESV
God wants to direct our steps so our story can echo this scripture, but that can only happen as we look to Him to direct us. That direction will lead us to places like that described here as contrasted to narrow places where our feet may slip. Will you let Him direct your feet?
Swift and beautiful for Thee
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns. Isaiah 52:7 ESV
If you allow Him to direct you He will make your feet beautiful. Beautiful not as much in form as in function. When you bring good news, peace, happiness and salvation to those who lack it your feet are beautiful indeed. Will you be swift about offering your feet to walk His path?

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1 ESV
All of the other expressions of this classic hymn are summed up in this opening line: take my life, all that I am. The other lines give us the chance to list out different parts of our lives but we start by offering it all, and all in response to God's mercy. Offer your life to Him today.
Consecrated Lord to Thee
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 ESV
Consecrated means to set apart. We are saying that we want our lives to be lived to accomplish His will. As we offer our lives as an act of worship our minds are transformed enabling us to discern His will. Commit today to set yourself apart for His glory.
Take my moments and my days
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16 ESV
A life lived accomplishing God's will is made up of moments which accumulate to form days spent in this grand pursuit. Living purposefully in the smallest increments prepares us for the larger ones. Are you willing to offer God your moments, minutes, hours and days?
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1 ESV
Moments and days filled with praise. Not just songs of worship, but worship as a way of life. This certainly includes giving glory to God with our mouths but ultimately involves everything we are, everywhere we do, everywhere we go. Ask God to help you fulfill that commitment.

Praise to the Lord O let all that is in me adore Him
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Psalm 103:1 ESV
In this last stanza, we consider the all inclusive nature of the praise of God. First, we acknowledge that all that is in us should be bent to this purpose. There should be no part of me, heart soul, mind or strength that does not engage in this pursuit.
All that hath life and breath Come now with praises before Him
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Psalm 150:6 ESV
Next, we agree with the Psalmist and declare that all that has life and breath should praise the Lord. Every living thing without exception, should give glory to God. Most of creation does this naturally. It is only mankind who struggles with this command.
Let the amen sound from His people again
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, Amen! Praise the Lord! Psalm 106:48 ESV
Then, a subset of mankind is encouraged to offer their praise again to God. Who is that subset? The People Of God, bought at a great price. Are you one of them, us? When was the last time you let your amen sound from your lips? Let it sound from your lips again today.
Gladly for aye we adore Him
I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Psalm 145:1-2 ESV
Finally, all time. Forever. That is the timeframe for our praise. It should begin the moment we realize he is worthy and should never stop. Every day? Absolutely. Every moment for the rest of eternity? Of course. Praise To The Lord The Almighty for He alone is worthy!

Praise to the Lord Who When darkness of sin is abounding
Righteous are you, O Lord, when I complain to you; yet I would plead my case before you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive? Jeremiah 12:1 ESV
Jeremiah starts off acknowledging the righteousness of God and then goes to the questions that many of us ask. Why do the wicked seem to prosper? Why do those who have no interest in the righteousness of God thrive? Do you share his curiosity?
Who when the godless do triumph All virtue confounding
You who are of purer eyes than to see evil and cannot look at wrong, why do you idly look at traitors and remain silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he? Habakkuk 1:13 ESV
Habakkuk joins the interrogation confounded by what he seems to see as well. He cannot understand why God seems to be idly standing by while the wicked do ill to the righteous. I am thankful these prophets have asked hard questions. Aren't you?
Sheddeth His light chaseth the horrors of night
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5 ESV
Here we see the beginning of the answer. Though darkness and wickedness may seem to prosper, God's light shines in the midst of those circumstances. The darkness will not overcome His light, even though at times it seems a worthy challenger. It is not.
Saints with His mercy surrounding
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. Psalm 33:18-19 ESV
God sees his saints and surrounds them with His mercy. He delivers them from death and keeps them alive and famine even in the midst of difficulty his mercy is with us. That is good news for today, and the next time the darkness encroaches.

Praise to the Lord Who When tempests their warfare are waging
The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring. Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty! Psalm 93:3-4 ESV
Now we contrast the obvious might of the stormy tempest with that of the Lord. There really is no comparison, but when you find yourself staring into hurricane force wind it can be easy to forget God is far mightier.
Who when the elements madly around thee are raging
And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. 1 Kings 19:11b-12a ESV
Elijah had an encounter with elements, madly, raging around him. Interestingly, the scripture makes very clear the Lord was not in those. Instead He revealed himself through a low whisper. Power on display through a still, small voice.
Biddeth them cease turneth their fury to peace
And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Peace! Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39 ESV
I wonder if the voice Elijah heard was similar to the one Jesus uttered here. There are exclamation marks, but I wonder if Jesus only spoke loudly so his disciples could hear amidst all the noise. Often quiet, but sometimes not, is the voice that calms the storms.
Whirlwinds and waters assuaging
He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Psalm 107:29 ESV
Assuaging means to make something less intense. Often we ask God to deliver us from the storms, but sometimes His will is to deliver us through them. In all cases, when we are listening for His voice, and continuing to give Him praise, He makes the storms less intense.

Praise to the Lord Who doth prosper Thy work and defend thee
But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 ESV
Either one of these demonstrations of God s power are worth their own stanza at the very least, but there is so much that could be said about him that they are simply used as demonstrations of His faithfulness. Which one of them are you more thankful for today?
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6 ESV
As we long forward to our eternal home with God, we are confident of his goodness and mercy every day. Are you careful to arrange your days so that you can have this confidence? What are you doing to develop your ability to see his goodness and mercy on display every day?
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do
But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; Lamentations 3:21-22a ESV
Do you set your mind on these things? Do you allow yourself to sit and ponder the demonstrations of God s steadfast love to you every single day? You would be well-served to set aside some time to ponder what God is doing in your life. Nothing will fill you with more hope than that exercise.
If with His love He befriend thee
his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22b-23 ESV
His mercies never come to an end. He wants to befriend us with his love. But we have to put ourselves in a blessable state. This requires us to remove some things from our lives and add other things. What needs to be removed or added for you to know the love of God?

Praise to the Lord Who over all things So wondrously reigneth
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. 1 Chronicles 29:11 ESV
We praise God because He is the sovereign, providential King reigning over all things. He owns them all and wondrously displays His authority and care as our benevolent Ruler. Give Him praise!
Shelters thee under His wings Yea so gently sustaineth
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. Psalm 57:1 ESV
The writer contrasts the powerful image of God ruling and reigning over all to a gentle one of incredible, intimate care. God shows His mercy to us by offering protection and sustenance when things are threatening to destroy. Recall the last time you snuggled in such a sweet spot.
Hast thou not seen how thy desires ever have been [Granted]
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 1 John 5:14 ESV
Here we find a rhetorical question. It is asked to make the point that God answers us when we ask in accordance with His will. The trouble we have is that we often ask God for things, we desire things that are not in His will. How do we experience this confidence? Learn His will.
[Granted] in what He ordaineth
And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 1 John 5:15 ESV
As an expression of His care for us, God will not give us things that will not help us to know, love and trust Him more. That is His will for us. When we ask for those things, we can have confidence that we already have them, even if they have not been delivered just yet.

Praise to the Lord the Almighty, The King of creation
Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Psalm 150:1-2 ESV
This entire hymn is a call to worship, or maybe more accurately a command to worship, supported by a careful and fairly comprehensive list of all the reasons why we should. We start with His position over all, having made all, Almighty King of Creation. Praise Him!
O my soul praise Him For He is thy health and salvation
Of David. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!…who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, Psalm 103:1, 3 ESV
This next line echoes the admonition of David to His soul in response to the twofold work of God in restoring health to it as well as the body. The soul needs to be reminded of the need to praise because it is so fickle, so here is the reminder. Praise God as Healer and Savior.
All ye who hear now to His temple draw near
A Song of Ascents. Of David. I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord! Psalm 122:1 ESV
The invitation that begins in the inner-working of the soul rings out to all who have ears to hear. It echoes across all time and space but not everyone will respond, only those who the Spirit gives ears to hear the invitation. Give thanks that you are hearing the invitation even now.
Praise Him in glad adoration
A Psalm for giving thanks. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Psalm 100:1-2 ESV
We praise Him in glad adoration, but just adoration. Joyful gladness should mark the praise that we bring. Do a quick self-assessment. Could that description be offered for the praise you regularly offer to God? If not, determine today to bring him that kind of praise.

All creation, join in praising
And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, Revelation 5:13 ESV
To him who sits on the throne and to the Lambbe blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!
We read these words from John in his heavenly vision. It will happen. All the creatures praising. And we also read in other passages where the creation itself is ever declaring His handiwork. Are you being intentional about playing your part?
God, the Father, Spirit, Son,
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 ESV
Here in this oft quoted Christmas prophecy, we see different representations of our Triune God, Son, Counselor (Spirit), and Everlasting Father. God is Father, Spirit, Son and we are invited to come and worship Him. Extend the invitation to join us to everyone with ears to hear.
Evermore your voices raising
Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Hebrews 13:15 ESV
There will be no end to the praise we offer around His glorious throne, but we must rehearse our eternal occupation here and now. We should always be lifting our voices to acknowledge His name. Use your lips to give Him glory today, then never stop!
To th'eternal Three in One.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19 ESV
And herein lies the purpose of our vocal praise, translating into our living the message which declares the worth of our eternal God. We will praise Him around the throne, but we must do so now in a way that allows others to see Him. Are you engaged in such winsome praise?

Though an Infant now we view Him,
And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2:7 ESV
Jesus came the first time as the baby in the manger, Emmanuel, God with us, but no room was made for Him at the inn in Bethlehem. When He returns the Father will inquire what we did with the gift of His Son. Are you ready with your answer? Does your life line up with your lips?
He shall fill His Father's throne,
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.” Matthew 25:31 ESV
When Jesus comes the second time He will not be seeking a place to sleep but establishing a kingdom to reign. He will fill His Father's throne and His reign will be without end. Many worship the Christ of the manger, but do you exalt King Jesus on His throne?
Gather all the nations to Him;
Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, Revelation 5:9b ESV
Here is the song sung by the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders around the throne. Because of His finished work on the cross Jesus is able to gather His blood-bought children from every nation. Have you any part in getting the gospel to them?
Every knee shall then bow down:
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 ESV
Every knee will bow. Still, the greatest treasure remains for those who gladly choose to worship Him now. Ask the Spirit to make such activity a regular part of your life.

Saints, before the altar bending,…to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours: 1 Corinthians 1:2 ESV
Simply put, saints are simply those who have decided to call on the Lord. When we do we have chosen to humble ourselves before Him. We approach His altar with reverence and set ourselves apart for His purposes. Will you, like Simeon, humble yourself before God.
Watching long in hope and fear;…so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. I Corinthians 1:7-8 ESV
Simeon was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and saw the salvation of God with His own eyes. He was able to depart in peace. There is an interesting mingling of hope and fear in our watching. Do you feel both those realities, fear of His righteousness and hope in His mercy?
Suddenly the Lord, descending, Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; Malachi 3:1a ESV
So we wait on Him and seek Him, as we hope to see His appearing. The prophet promises that God's appearing will be sudden. He will come to His temple. Anna was so fervent she never left the temple. She experienced His coming and gave thanks to God! Will you seek Him?
In His temple shall appear.and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts. Malachi 3:1b ESV
The messenger is coming, and he will announce the Lord's coming. Are you ready like Simeon and Anna. Do you like with an expectancy that GOd is going to show up in your life? Are you truly seeking Him, and determined enough to respond rightly when He does?

Sages, leave your contemplations,
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, Matthew 2:1-2 ESV
Wise men, or magi, came from the east. These learned men left their pursuit of knowledge to search for something even better. What might God be asking you to leave behind so you may know Him better this Christmas, or in the New Year? Will you follow His leading?
Brighter visions beam afar;
Saying, Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him. Matthew 2:2 ESV
Maybe God has already given you a vision of a better future in your relationship with Him but you need to leave something behind to pursue it. Do you have a sense of your brighter visions ? If not, ask God to open your eyes to them as He did for the wise men.
Seek the great Desire of nations;
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. John 8:12 ESV
So the magi used the star to lead them to the One who would later utter these words. They walked through darkness, but found the light of life, the light of the world. They were not Jewish so they demonstrate that the wisest among us from every nation desire Him. Will you?
Ye have seen His natal star.
And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. Matthew 2:9b-10 ESV
But just seeing the star is not enough. We must respond. The wise men journeyed long, and when they arrived at their destination rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. As you pursue Christ, expect the same kind of feeling. But make certain you are pursuing Him. Are you?

Shepherds, in the field abiding,
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, Luke 2:8a ESV
This story is continued from the previous passage where we are told of Jesus' birth in Bethlehem. These fields were outside Bethlehem. That is where these shepherds lived. God came to them where they lived. How kind of Him to do that! And He has been doing that ever since. Thank Him for meeting us where we live.
Watching o'er your flocks by night,
keeping watch over their flock by night. Luke 2:8b ESV
And they were just doing their job. Going about their normal activity. When suddenly God sent an unmistakable message to them. God still comes to us in our daily labors. He makes His presence known to us, but we must be ready to receive it. No doubt these shepherds were. Are you?
God with us is now residing;
Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:23 ESV
This verse quotes the words from Isaiah 7:14, and then adds the explanation, God with us . The news the shepherds heard was first revealed here to Joseph. He came to dwell with us so that He could live a perfect life, then offer it to save us from our sins. Give thanks to the Father for becoming Immanuel in His son.
Yonder shines the infant light:
The people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned. Matthew 4:16 ESV
Jesus at His birth was the light that dawned. We though walking in darkness have seen a great light because Jesus revealed it to us. The shepherds were the first to see it, and they told everyone what they had seen, so the light began to spread. Will you shine that Bethlehem Light?

Angels from the realms of glory,
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Luke 2:13 ESV
We will get to their song later but note that these angels have come from the heavens. The realms of glory left behind, they come to tell of the King's arrival. What kind of King gets such a royal, angelic proclamation? Only our King, Jesus Christ. Worship Him who alone is worthy.
Wing your flight o'er all the earth;
And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Luke 2:10 ESV
This glorious good news and the offer to receive it echoes to the whole earth, for all the people. The angels are God's messengers and they carry this invitation to worship everywhere there wings take them. Will you put your journey to the same use declaring this invitation.
Ye who sang creation's story
When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Job 38:7 ESV
Though there are several Scriptural allusions to the presence of angels during the creation of the world, this one is a good one. Taken from God's response to Job, God Himself acknowledges the presence of the sons of God, angels, shouting for joy with the morning stars. Can you hear the echo of their praises across eternity?
Now proclaim Messiah's birth.
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased! Luke 2:14 ESV
And here the host of angels sing glory to the newborn King! They join the first angel that started the proclamation of Messiah's birth in angelic chorus. Imagine what that must have been like, and determine to respond to the call to worship with them today.

All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. 1 Corinthians 12:11 ESV
The Spirit can fill us and graciously chooses to do so, according to His will. He imparts to us the very Presence of God when He fills us. This is such a remarkable and undeserved transaction, a grace we could never merit yet is freely bestowed. Thank Him for filling and empowering you.
Though I cannot tell Thee how
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Romans 8:26 ESV
We do not know how He fills us or why He chooses to do so the way He does, yet we marvel at the kindness. What we should pray for is more of Him, but we often get caught in smaller interests. Still He prays for us for what we truly need. Spirit, intercede for me today.
But I need Thee greatly need Thee
You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. Romans 8:9 ESV
We need the Spirit because He is the one who imparts Christ to us. It is imperative for our salvation that we have Christ and thanks be to God the Spirit makes Him ours and us His. Ask Him to help you live in the Spirit instead of the flesh, then make that choice again every day.
Come O come and fill me now
By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 1 John 4:13 ESV
He has given us of His Spirit so we abide in Him. We must make that choice every day, the choice to live in Him as He lives in us. It seems so simple and in many ways it is, but we make it difficult. Ask the Spirit to help you make abiding in Him simpler every day.

Hover o’er me Holy Spirit
And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. Acts 2:3 ESV
The Spirit came to the disciples on the Day of Pentecost. Like flames of fire He hovered over each one of them. He wants to come and hover over us as well, but we must position ourselves like the early disciples. Are you waiting on the Holy Spirit?
Bathe my trembling heart and brow
…God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:5b ESV
We wants to do more than hover over us, He wants to bathe us in His presence, cleansing and purifying us so we are prepared to serve Him. His Spirit ushers His transforming love into our hearts and changes us. Ask the Spirit to bathe your heart and mind.
Fill me with Thy hallow’d presence
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4 ESV
Your experience of the Holy Spirit may not be identical to these disciples who first received Him, but it need be no less real. The filling of the Spirit is a mark of God s presence with us. Do you long to be filled with the Holy Spirit not matter what that may look or sound like?
Come O come and fill me now
And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:31 ESV
When they prayed…they were all filled. Again, the place where you are gathered may not shake, but God will certainly stir some things in your soul. Prepare yourself to receive the Holy Spirit by simply praying for His holy presence to fill you.

Beautiful Saviour Lord of all the nations
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 1 Timothy 1:15 ESV
Here we see the quality above all others that makes Jesus the fairest. He is never more beautiful to us than when we see Him as our Savior. But He is not only our Savior, He is the Savior of the world, of people like us, and not like us, though we are all the same in needing a Savior.
Son of God and Son of Man
Who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:6-7 ESV
Here are the credentials that allow Him to serve as our Savior. He is fully God, and so has untold power. He is fully man, able to identify with our every weakness. He brings that power and weakness together by becoming our Savior. There is no one more fair.
Glory and honor praise adoration
To the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. Jude 1:25 ESV
Because He has become our savior, He is worthy of all the praise we could ever bring. Jesus deserves glory and honor, praise and adoration, majesty, dominion, and authority. He has the name that is above every name and one day every knee will bow before Him.
Now and forevermore be Thine
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8 ESV
There will come a time when every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Those who know Him will exalt Him accordingly for all eternity. We will never cease to praise Him because He will never cease to be the same. Get your praise started today if you have not already done so.

Fair is the sunshine fairer still the moonlight God made the two great lights the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night Genesis 1:16 ESV
God set the sun and the moon in place to rule the day and the night. They are marvelous to behold, very different in nature, and serve as incredible blessings to us who live on the earth. Fair is also very light in color or pigmentation, and they are variations of that as well.
And all the twinkling starry host
and the stars. And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:14-18 ESV
The stars are also fair. They are a part of the light that God has put in the sky to separate the light from the darkness. How kind of our Lord to give us a measure of light even in the dark.
Jesus shines brighter Jesus shines purer
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. John 8:12 ESV
But Jesus shines a light that is brighter and purer than those heavenly orbs. He is light in the spiritual realm as well as the physical. He gives us light to walk and live. Are you looking to the light that only Jesus can provide, or have you been looking elsewhere?
Than all the angels heav’n can boast
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, Having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. Hebrews 1:3 ESV
And here are his credentials. As if His reflection of the Father were not enough, He sealed His case for fairest with His finished work on the cross and His ascension into the heavenly, angelic realm.

Fair are the meadows fairer still the woodlands
For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12 ESV
God reveals His glory in creation. He reveals His glory in Jesus. Have you taken a walk through a meadow or a woodland lately? The beauty can be overwhelming, but be certain to let it lead you to praise the One who made it. We do not worship the creation, but the Creator.
Robed in the blooming garb of spring
The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and singing. Isaiah 35:1-2a ESV
A desert rejoicing and blossoming like a crocus. That sounds like such a beautiful, remarkable thing. The stark and barren land replaced with joy and a garment of flowers.That kind of transformation is something worth noticing. Meadows and woodlands alike revealing God.
Jesus is fairer Jesus is purer
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities all things were created through him and for him. Colossians 1:15-16 ESV
Beautiful as they are, they are simply trying to reflect the glory of the Uncreated One, the One who visualizes the invisible God. He made them all, so obviously He is more grand than they, more fair, more pure than everything visible and invisible. Nothing compares to Jesus.
Who makes the woeful heart to sing
And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:17 ESV
All things hold together, in Him. The heavens and the earth. Thrones, rulers and authorities. All things. You. And me. Physically, emotionally, relationally held together. We rejoice in His beauty, revealed in creation and our lives, but we rejoice even more for how He holds together.

Fairest Lord Jesus Ruler of all nature
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. Hebrews 1:3 ESV
This is who He is, the lovely Lord Jesus. This is His authority, the Ruler of all nature, not only earth, but the entire universe. Authority over all, Beauty above all. He has no equals in any way. Unmatched and unparalleled in dominion and majesty. Worship Him!
O Thou of God and man the Son
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, Galatians 4:4a ESV
He is both of God and man. The only begotten Son of the Father, and also born of woman. Jesus, the uncreated One humbled Himself to be born like us so He became familiar with our weaknesses without ever giving up a bit of His strength.
Thee will I cherish Thee will I honor
Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing! Revelation 5:12 ESV
The day is coming when the angels will cry out Jesus praise with a loud voice. I will not wait until then to offer Him the honor due His name. How about you? Will you commit to cherish Him AND give Him the honor that is due to His glorious name?
Thou my soul’s glory joy and crown
God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 ESV
Not only angels but every knee and every tongue. Do not wait until you have no choice but to praise. Make the choice and worship Him today!

At the cross at the cross where I first saw the light
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24 ESV
Jesus bled and died at the cross so that we could die to sin and live to righteousness. At the cross He opened our eyes and delivered us from the dominion of darkness. Give Him praise for opening your eyes at the cross.
And the burden of my heart rolled away
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 ESV
If you have placed your faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ at the cross, you know what it feels like to have the weight of your sin lifted. Thank Him. If you do not know, humble yourself before Him, confess your sin and need of a Savior, and feel the burden roll away today.
It was there by faith I received my sight
Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:8-9 ESV
Our faith allows us to see the wonder of the cross, Christ s finished work there and all that He accomplished. Thank Him for giving you spiritual eyes to see.
And now I am happy all the day
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57 ESV
We have victory over sin, death and the grave through our Lord Jesus Christ. We experience sadnesses in our lives, but we do so against the enduring joy He has given us. Thank Him one more time for applying His work at the cross to your life.

But drops of grief can ne’er repay
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 ESV
When we look at the cross and realize it was necessary because of our sin, it causes grief. That grief is the result of the awareness of our Savior s sacrifice to take the burden of sin. In this penitent season, look to the cross again, and feel that grief.
The debt of love I owe
In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 1 John 4:9 ESV
Our grief in the cross should not leave us wallowing in sadness, but responding with gratitude in the resurrection life of Christ. That gratitude is characterized by love for the One who laid down His life and took it up again so we too might live. Acknowledge your debt of love to Jesus.
Here Lord I give myself away
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1 ESV
Our response is expressed by giving our lives in worship to God, loving Him and loving others. In view of His mercies, and even by them, to give ourselves over to the purposes of God as modeled by Christ Himself. Will you give yourself entirely over to the Lord? What are you holding back?
‘Tis all that I can do
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8 ESV
Christ s work on the cross paid the penalty for all our sins, yet there is some way that our response of love to His great act of love also covers sins. All we can do is love one another seriously. It is easier said than done, but may Christ s example inspire and empower us today.

Thus might I hide my blushing face
Saying: O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift my face to you, my God, for our iniquities have risen higher than our heads, and our guilt has mounted up to the heavens. Ezra 9:6 ESV
Though these are the words Ezra spoke when he heard the sins of the returned exiles recounted, they might just as well be ours when the cross forces us to confront our sin. We should be ashamed of the lives we lived apart from the cross. Confess your shame.
While Calvary’s cross appears
And you…God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. Colossians 2:13a-14 ESV
The cross makes a way for all the wrong things to be made right, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us. We are ashamed that we are hopeless without Him, but it can lead us to the place of putting all our hope in the cross and Christ s finished work there. Embrace the glory of the cross.
Dissolve my heart in thankfulness
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Ephesians 5:20 ESV
Seeing ourselves clearly against the backdrop of the cross can have the effect of dissolving our heart in thankfulness, but we must welcome that work. We should be thankful for the work of the cross. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a heart overwhelmed with thankfulness.
And melt mine eyes to tears
For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret…2 Corinthians 7:10a ESV
Though thankful we are also grieved when we see our need for the cross. We repent and turn from our lives of self and sin and surrender to the work of repentance. Repentance leads to salvation, andin salvation there is no regret. Ask Jesus to melt your eyes to tears of repentance.

Well might the sun in darkness hide
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. Matthew 27:45 ESV
As Jesus hung on the cross a darkness covered the whole land. Though we do not know exactly what the gospel writers mean by this, it seems more than just poetic. A heaviness undoubtedly permeated those three hours while Jesus suffered on the cross. Think about that.
And shut His glories in
For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. Hebrews 2:10 ESV
It was fitting that this darkness would be paralleled by that which Jesus was battling. He was about to experience separation from the Father as He became sin for us. The suffering of the One who made all things would bring many to glory. Thank Him if you are one of them.
When Christ the mighty Maker died
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 1 Peter 3:18 ESV
Having initially made all things good, He suffered and died to remake everything good again. His work of creation flawed by our sin was set right in His work of re-creation and redemption. He was put to death in the flesh, to make us alive in the spirit. Hallelujah!
For man the creature’s sin
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23 ESV
We fell short, so God had to intervene to lift us to His glory again. We sinned, so God had to do something about it, The cross changes our temporal direction as well as our eternal destiny. Christ models for us the self-denial that ushers God s light into our lives. Embrace His path!

Was it for crimes that I have done
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. 1 Peter 2:24 ESV
Yes, Christ bore the punishment for our crimes, our sins, when He went to the cross. He had never sinned and was crucified without reason, which is why Pilate washed His hands of the matter. The sinless died for the sinful. Recall when you first realized you needed a Savior.
He groaned upon the tree
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani? which means, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Mark 15:34 ESV
Jesus said several things from the cross but this expression may have seemed that most like a groan. Again, in His humanity Christ felt forsaken as He died on the cross. He endured that shame and separation from the Father for our good. Thank Him for bearing the cross for you.
Amazing pity grace unknown
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, Ephesians 1:7 ESV
The riches of God s grace and the extravagance of His pity on are display at the cross better than anywhere else. Redemption and forgiveness are ours because of Christ s work there. God saw how our sin caused us to suffer and He intervened. Give Him praise!
And love beyond degree
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 ESV
He showed His love best on the cross, while we were still sinners. Love beyond degree. He did not wait until we were lovable, and good thing because we never would have been to a holy God. Instead, He made us lovable through the cross. Hallelujah! Thank you Jesus!

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, Ephesians 1:7 ESV
As we journey through this hymn during the season of Lent we will answer a lot of questions. Yes, the savior bled for us. And His blood purchased our redemption, our forgiveness. As we begin our journey, thank Him for the riches of His grace poured on your life.
And did my Sov’reign die
Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, Father, into your hands I commit my spirit! And having said this he breathed his last. Luke 23:46 ESV
Can you imagine what those moments must have been like for those first disciples? We have the benefit of history, but their hearts must have been breaking. Try to empathize with the pain they had to have felt. It will only intensify the joy of our resurrection celebrations.
Would He devote that sacred head
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 ESV
The Father gave His only Son to provide us the opportunity to move from death to life. What an astonishing and extravagant yet necessary gift it was! Consider for a moment your eternity if Jesus had not been willing to surrender to the Father s will. We would be doomed.
For sinners such as I

Doomed would we be because of our sin. It separated us eternally from the Father…and yet, He made a way. Christ died for us to show us the love of God. How will you respond to that love through this season of Lent? How will you offer yourself to God, responding to Jesus example?

When with the ransomed in glory
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, Revelation 7:9 ESV
How do you know they are ransomed? The white robes. How do you know they are in glory? The throne and the Lamb. Who are they? A great number from every nation, and tribe. What a gathering that will be!
His face I at last shall see
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12 ESV
Gathered around the throne with the ransomed we will finally see Jesus face to face. Now we know in part, then we will now fully. How marvelous to be fully known and still loved. How we long for the day when we will see His face.
‘Twill be my joy through the ages
And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever! Revelation 5:13 ESV
We will sing with all creation on that day, and with the redeemed for all eternity the praises of the Lamb. What joy is ours that we know will be a part of the eternal worship of the Savior. Hallelujah!
To sing of His love for me
Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. Revelation 7:15 ESV
This is our song now and will be our song forever, to sing of His love for us. We will serve Him day and night and He will be our shelter forever. This is our Savior s love. Make it your song now and always.

How marvelous how wonderful
The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. Psalm 118:22-23 ESV
Jesus quotes this verse prophesying His fulfillment of it. He would show His love for us by being rejected and then becoming the cornerstone of our salvation. He acknowledged it was God s doing and a marvelous thing. We must choose to respond to this marvelous love.
And my song shall ever be
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. Psalm 104:33 ESV
Here is our response. We will sing as long as we live. But what happens after this life? We will keep singing because our souls are eternal and they have been redeemed. Are you committed to singing God’s love eternally? When did you last do it? How will you do it today?
How marvelous how wonderful
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. Psalm 9:1 ESV
We are motivated to give thanks when we remember and recount all of our Lord s wonderful deeds. With my whole heart . There is no part of my heart that is not committed to this. Can you echo the Psalmist s dedication? If not, why? Commit today to all-encompassing praise.
Is my Saviour’s love for me
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 ESV
Here we find the inspiration for our continual praise and thanksgiving. We were still sinners when Christ offered His marvelous, wonderful love to us. That makes it even more so in every way. Take a few minutes on this day of love to marvel and wonder at His love anew.

He took my sins and my sorrows
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24 ESV
This is probably the greatest expression of His love for us. He died for sin so we might die to sin. Might because we have to choose every day to live to righteousness. There is no greater response to His love than to walk daily in the healing His wounds purchased. Are you?
He made them His very own
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us for it is written, Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree Galatians 3:13 ESV
When He bore our sins He became a curse for us. He who was without sin became sin for us by making our sins and their resultant sorrows His very own. He blessed us when He allowed Himself to be hanged on the cross, a tree, and became cursed. What marvelous love!
He bore the burden to Calvary
And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. Luke 23:33 ESV
Most translations say the place of the skull or Golgotha, but the KJV renders it Calvary. Whatever name it is called, it is a real place where our real Savior was crucified on a real cross between two real criminals. It is not just a song. It really happened. Do you believe it?
And suffered and died alone
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani? that is, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Matthew 27:46 ESV
For the first time in eternity the Father and the Son were separated as Jesus became sin for us and the Father turned His face away from Him. There were others standing by, but the isolation He must have felt as He cried out is impossible to fathom. He was alone so You never need be.

In pity angels beheld Him
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Psalm 34:7 ESV
This verse is a promise which tells us of the general activity of angels in the lives of those who fear God. They encamp around us and deliver us. Can you imagine how the angels must have wanted to intervene that night in the garden? They deliver, but not that night.
And came from the world of light
you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, Hebrews 12:22 ESV
This is speaking about the Kingdom to which we have been granted access through Jesus sacrifice. It is an eternal kingdom of light. Angels serve there as messengers of God, and extend that kingdom to us. They came to Jesus, not to deliver Him, but for another purpose.
To comfort Him in the sorrows
And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. Luke 22:43 ESV
Though they likely wanted to deliver Jesus from the battle being waged over sin, instead they strengthened Him. How do you imagine they did that? Probably not words or anything physical, even though His struggle had a physical dimension. It was a spiritual strengthening.
He bore for my soul that night
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. Isaiah 53:4 ESV
Griefs and sorrows, sins and sickness. Jesus bore it all for our souls that night. Aren t you glad? You could not have born your own, yet He willingly bore them for the whole world. What a marvelous, wonderful love our Savior displayed! Be certain to make it your song forever.

For me it was in the garden
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, Sit here, while I go over there and pray. Matthew 26:36 ESV
Jesus knew what was coming. Judgment, and the satisfaction of the price for sin. He had come in the flesh to pay that penalty, and had come to the garden to pray for the strength to endure it. He had no price of His own to pay for He was perfect, but willingly paid for ours.
He prayed not My will but Thine
And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will. Matthew 26:39 ESV
He went to the garden to pray for the cup to pass. What cup? The cup of judgment that had to be consumed for us to know the love of God. He asked His Father to let it pass from Him, but was willing to surrender to the Father s will if it could not. Of course it couldn t, so He drank it.
He had no tears for His own griefs
And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me. Matthew 26:37-38 ESV
Though He was filled with sorrow, even to the point of death, He shed no tears for his griefs. Instead He asked His disciples to stay with Him and pray. He would need divine strength as He prepared to carry the weight of humanity s sin to the cross. Marvelous love!
But sweat drops of blood for mine
And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Luke 22:44 ESV
So great was His grief that it produced a strain in His body forcing blood into His drops of sweat. He literally was sweating blood. This is a real physical condition and one certainly the humanity of God endured as He took on the sins of the world: our sin, His grief.

I stand amazed in the presence
And he said, Who are you, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do. Acts 9:5-6 ESV
Paul was on his way to persecute the church when Jesus revealed Himself and redirected Paul s life. Jesus has been redirecting lives for millennia and He wants to do it today. How might Jesus be revealing Himself and redirecting your life today?
Of Jesus the Nazarene
And he went and lived in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that he would be called a Nazarene. Matthew 2:23 ESV
From Paul s vision on the road to Damascus, to the angel redirecting Joseph out of Egypt to Nazareth in Galilee, God had a plan. God has a plan for your life as well. It may not involve heavenly visions or angel visitations but it still has divine purpose. How will you respond?
And wonder how He could love me
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us Ephesians 2:4-5 ESV
When we see Jesus for who He is, it makes His great love for us all the more amazing. He is without fault or blemish. His love is a rich expression of mercy because we deserve wrath. Instead we receive His love which should evoke amazement and awe. Does it?
A sinner condemned unclean
even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ by grace you have been saved Ephesians 2:4-5 ESV
Mercy is not getting what you do not deserve. Grace is getting what you do not deserve. Eternal life in exchange of eternal death, that is grace and mercy in the highest forms. That should leave us in awe and wonder singing His praise forevermore!

Pardon and the peace which flows from it. These belong to everyone who turns to the Lord and receives His compassion. He is willing to abundantly pardon. Is there anything you need to turn from today, even any thoughts, so you can find rest in Jesus?
Thy own dear presenceTo cheer and to guide
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. Zephaniah 3:17 ESV
Having received the pardon and peace of God we must learn to walk in it, in His presence. He encourages our hearts, quiets us with His love, and rejoices over us, but we must be willing to listen. Quiet yourself in His presence right now, and listen for His rejoicing.
Strength for todayAnd bright hope for tomorrow
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 ESV
All you need for whatever you are facing today, and hope that the same will be true tomorrow when it comes can be yours in Christ. What has you troubled? Look to God for the strength and help you need to overcome it.
Blessings all mineWith ten thousand beside
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, Deuteronomy 7:9 ESV
Love Him and keep His commandments. Easier said than done. But He is faithful and if we will surrender we will know the blessing of standing side by side with countless others who have made that same choice and trusted God to help them fulfill it as well.

I could not love Thee, so blind and unfeeling;
As it is written: None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. Romans 3:10-11 ESV
It is both painful and needful to acknowledge this reality. We were blind and cold toward God, so was our disposition in sin. We could not love Him, nor did we care to. We must acknowledge this in order to receive by grace His faithfulness to us. Have you done so?
Covenant promises fell not to me.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23 ESV
Our sin had separated us from God and accordingly all the promises that He offers to those who believe and place their faith in the substitutionary sacrifice of His Son. You too were once outside of this covenant, outside of HIs glory. Thank Him for revealing that to you.
Then without warning, desire, or deserving,
For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:28 ESV
Without warning, before we could even desire it, and absolutely before we could even begin to ponder what to do to deserve it, God poured out the blood of Christ to make forgiveness of sin available. Praise His name for making a way for us to draw near before we even tried.
I found my Treasure, my pleasure, in Thee.
By which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 2 Peter 1:4 ESV
Not only can we now draw near but we are changed at our very core to be characterized by the nature of God. That allows us to escape the corruption that plagues the world due to sinful desire. What an incredible promise! Ask Him to help you live it out today.

I have no merit to woo or delight Thee,
Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:8 ESV
Though we do not like to admit our utter depravity, we must remember that to do so makes even more of the faithfulness of God. There was nothing in us that deserved the grace He has poured out on us, and until He did we could not please Him, not in the least. Confess that.
I have no wisdomor pow rs to employ;
Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, Jeremiah 9:23 ESV
We do have some abilities, yet though they are God-given, they are still not enough to bridge the gap left by our sinfulness and selfishness. Thank God for those gifts, but also for the fact that He went even further to make a way for us to find favor in His eyes.
Yet in thy mercy, how pleasing thou find st me,
…but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9:24 ESV
He practices that steadfast love, justice and righteousness on us, and even delights to do so. This must be our boast. Not anything that we are or have done, but in the unmerited favor and delight of our Lord. Make that boast right now, then all day and forever.
This is Thy pleasure: that Thou art my joy.
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11 ESV
What is God s pleasure? That I find my joy in Him. How amazing is that? Our greatest joy, fullness of joy, is found only in His presence, at His right hand forever, and His pleasure is our discovering and living in that. Hallelujah! Give God praise for this incredible truth.

He rules the world with truth and grace
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:14, 17 ESV
Effectively grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. He is full of grace and truth and so He rules the world from that position. He came and dwelt among us and will return to complete the work of redemption that His work on the cross accomplished. Hallelujah!
And makes the nations prove
I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Lord God, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes. Ezekiel 36:23 ESV
Vindication is proving that something is right. This verse inspires this line by taking the words of the Lord and declaring what He will in fact do just that. He is holy and great. His rule will establish and prove those things among all the nations of the world.
The glories of His righteousness
Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness. Psalm 96:12b-13 ESV
The trees are going to help the nations prove the glories of His righteousness by singing for joy when He comes. Can you imagine what that is going to sound like? It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about it. I will sing now so I am ready when the trees do.
And wonders wonders of His love
Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand. Psalm 17:7 ESV
We have seen the wonders of His love, even in our fallen world, yet we still long for the people of every tribe and tongue to see them as well. One day the nations will sing with us. Let s do everything we can to help them understand that now and usher in the joy!

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let s think about this.
No more let sins and sorrows grow
And to Adam he said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, You shall not eat of it, cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; Genesis 3:17 ESV
It all started in a garden. Though given the freedom to live in God s presence, Adam and Eve were deceived into trying to be like God. Sin and sorrow were ushered in with that decision but the Father made a way to reverse the curse, sending His only Son to redeem us.
Nor thorns infest the ground
Thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. Genesis 3:18 ESV
We are all well aware of the futility of our labors. We sow with the hope of reaping, and weeds show up seemingly out of nowhere, but they are the result of the Fall. You may have done nothing to welcome them but there they are. What thorns are present in your life right now?
He comes to make His blessings flow
For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. Romans 8:19-21 ESV
The freedom of the glory of the children of God.How we long for that! We hope for the creation itself to be set free from its bondage to corruption. Jesus made all that possible. He came to start that work and will return to complete it. We long for His blessings to flow!
Far as far as the curse is found
For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. Romans 8:22-23 ESV
The redemption of our bodies. The curse brings death, but the blessing Jesus offers is life. The firstfruits of Spirit deposit that longing in us for our adoption as sons and daughters, when the curse is removed and all we know is the blessing of being with God eternally, like the garden.

Joy to the earth the Savior reigns
the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11 ESV
Joy has come to the earth, because the Savior has arrived. But not only has he arrived, He has established His rule and authority over all. That is good news, because it gives Him the authority to redeem us, making all our wrong things right. That s cause for joy!
Let men their songs employ
Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Psalm 96:2 ESV
We use songs to tell of His redeeming work. Scripture commands it, and it is a powerful way to engage the soul as well as the mind with the wonderful truths of God. Once you have embraced this reality, it honestly becomes difficult not to make it known through song.
While fields and floods, rocks hills and plains
Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it!Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together. Psalm 98:7-8 ESV
Our songs join those of every part of creation. This is not adding some new melody, as much as finding that which is woven into the very fiber of every created thing. Have you found that inmost melody? Look to God s creation for your inspiration and ask the Spirit to help you receive it.
Repeat repeat the sounding joy
before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth.He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. Psalm 98:9 ESV
What does joy have to do with the judgment of God? We know His judgment will be done with righteousness and equity. Because we personally trust in the righteousness of Christ, we have peace knowing He has saved us from the wrath we deserve. Hallelujah! What a joy!
