Catherine is a prolific, award-winning editor and the host of the CCE's French podcast L'Art du Montage. In Larry (they/them), she takes on the dual role of director and editor, following the vibrant and deeply personal journey of non-binary Montreal photographer Laurence Philomène. Their colourful and intimate photography not only shines throughout the film but also offers a poignant glimpse into the evolving experience of embracing a gender-nonconforming identity.

Charlene Rule - Editor
Charlene Rule has edited a diverse portfolio spanning museum installations, unscripted shows, music videos, and award-winning documentaries. Her first documentary, FRAMES premiered at Tribeca and also showed at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Recent work includes FOUR STRINGS GOOD, the documentary commemorating the British sessions bassist Mo Foster, which has just premiered at the DocNRoll festival in London. She has also contributed to notable projects like THE ALZHEIMER'S PROJECT, SAME SEX AMERICA, and LEVI: BECOMING HIMSELF. Charlene's work has appeared on networks including A&E, AMI, CBC, Discovery+, FoxSports1, HBO, Max, Showtime, Sundance Channel, and VICE.
Hans Olsen - Editor
Hans Olson is an editor with a passion for observational storytelling. He has worked on three films directed by Tasha Hubbard – SINGING BACK THE BUFFALO, NÎPAWISTAMÂSOWIN: WE WILL STAND UP and BIRTH OF A FAMILY. His documentary editing credits also include SIKSIKAKOWAN: THE BLACKFOOT MAN, ARAB WOMEN SAY WHAT?! and KÍMMAPIIYIPITSSINI: THE MEANING OF EMPATHY. Hans studied screenwriting at Langara College and is an alumnus of the Canadian Film Centre (Directors' Lab) and Berlinale Talents. He has volunteered with the Nordlys Film & Arts Festival since its inception in 2010.
John McMillan - Composer
John McMillan is an award-winning composer, producer, and educator. He is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Westminster in London, UK, and is currently serving as Head of Songwriting with the Department of Music at MacEwan University in Edmonton. From an early age, John has been interested in the art of storytelling through film. This fascination, coupled with a love of music composition, songwriting, music technology and recording, has led to his career in music for visual media. Select screen credits include SINGING BACK THE BUFFALO, CRACKED: THE PERPLEXING WORLD OF EGG DONATION, THE GOOD VIRUS, WOCHIIGII LO: END OF THE PEACE, BLIND AMBITION: THE WOP MAY STORY, IRONMAN III and ASSASSIN'S CREED BLACK FLAG. John is most passionate about his musical contributions to the Canadian documentary film industry.
Johnny Blerot - Sound Designer
Johnny began his sound recording education at the age of 16 and has been working with audio professionally for more than 35 years. With a diploma in Music and Recording Arts from MacEwan University, he is both a musician and audio engineer, with the unique ability to receive the world through sound. The recipient of thirteen Alberta Motion Picture Industry Awards, two Canadian Screen Award Nominations, his position as a premiere audio authority is well established. There is no project Johnny is not equipped to tackle. He has a strong understanding of the technical and creative elements involved in audio production, and he has the skill to balance both.
Sarah Taylor, CCE (Moderator)
A multi-award-winning editor with over twenty years of experience, Sarah has helped shape countless narratives that have been seen around the world. She has cut a wide range of documentaries, television programs, shorts, and feature films which have been screened at festivals including Tribeca, TIFF, and Sundance, and broadcast on networks like CBC, BBC, PBS, APTN, and AMI. Sarah's most recent work includes the feature length documentary The Lebanese Burger Mafia which premiered at HOT DOCS in 2023 and the feature film Hey Viktor! which premiered at Tribeca in 2023. Sarah has seamlessly transitioned into the world of podcasting and also hosts and edits interview-based shows such as BRAAAINS and THE EDITOR'S CUT, adding another dimension to her multifaceted storytelling expertise.

Academy Award nominee, Sandra Adair, ACE, has enjoyed an ongoing artistic collaboration with director Richard Linklater, having edited 24 films for him over the past 33 years. Some of their collaborative work includes the cult classic DAZED AND CONFUSED, BEFORE SUNRISE, BEFORE SUNSET AND BEFORE MIDNIGHT, and last year's HIT MAN. Their latest collaboration is this year's BLUE MOON. In 2014, Linklater's BOYHOOD earned 6 Academy Award nominations, including Best Editing for Sandra. Sandra is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, American Cinema Editors, and The Motion Picture Editor's Guild.
Today's episode is an interview with Myron Kerstein, ACE — the brilliant editor behind Wicked and Wicked: For Good. Myron has earned two Oscar nominations, won two ACE Eddie Awards for Wicked and tick, tick…BOOM!, and has edited numerous iconic musicals, including In the Heights.
We want to feature the editors of four Canadian films that are not only critically acclaimed in this year's festival circles but also reflect the great community spirit behind their creation. Whether it's the utterly independent visions of MATT AND MARA and UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE or the deeply necessary stories of the Indigenous community in ABERDEEN and THE STAND, this year's Canadian films, in all their shapes and forms, are not short of boldness and style.
Sara Bulloch is an editor and filmmaker in Winnipeg, Canada. She's edited films and series like ABERDEEN (premiered at TIFF2024), ALTER BOYS, SEEKING FIRE, ANCIENT BODIES, and many short films including I WOULD LIKE TO THANK MY BODY which won Audience Choice Award at Gimli Film Fest 2023. Short films she's written/directed have screened with Toronto Jewish Film Fest, the8fest, Gimli Film Fest, and more. Her films often explore mental health, identity, and relationships. Her short film, HOT DOG GUY won a People's Choice Award at Vox Popular Media Arts Fest 2022. She's also a motion graphics artist and community organizer. From 2019-2023 she organized OurToba Film Network & Fest, a community group for women, non-binary and gender diverse Manitobans in film.
Xi Feng is a film editor based in Montreal. Having lived in China, Canada, and France, she has cultivated a unique blend of cultural and artistic sensitivity. Feng has worked as an editor on award winning films including CETTE MAISON, CAITI BLUES and most recently UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE, which won the inaugural Audience Award at the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes and is Canada's 2025 submission for the Oscars. Her filmography includes films premiered at major festivals such as Berlinale, Cannes, Sundance, TIFF, Vision du Réel, HotDocs, etc.
Nathalie Massaroni is a Winnipeg-based editor and post production supervisor of more than 400 hours of television. Since graduating from the University of Winnipeg's film program, she has edited features and series including WINTERTIDE, ALTER BOYS, SEEKING FIRE, and ABERDEEN (which premiered at TIFF 2024). Nathalie has also edited other short form series and films such as D DOT H, TAILOR MADE, and I HURT MYSELF. If she's not working on a computer, you can find Nathalie at the dance studio or sipping coffee with a cat on her lap.
Ajla Odobasic is a Bosnian-Canadian film editor based in Toronto. Her credits include MATT AND MARA, THE WHITE FORTRESS, the TFCA Best Canadian Film Award-winning ANNE AT 13000 FT, A.W: A PORTRAIT OF APICHATPONG WEERASETHAKUL, and the CSA-nominated HELLO DESTROYER. Her work has screened at several festivals and platforms including Locarno, TIFF, the Berlinale, MoMA, CBC Gem, and the Criterion Channel. Ajla teaches editing in Humber College's Film and Television program.
Sarah Hedar is a Vancouver-based editor and story editor. Her patience and sense of humour keeps the challenges that so often bog down the creative process at bay. Sarah's award-winning work on provocative and original films spans both documentary and narrative projects, from features to shorts. Her keen eye for visual storytelling reflects her belief in the power of community, and the importance of continuously reassessing the status quo while building a world filled with empathy and hope for a brighter future. Her work has screened at festivals across the globe, but most notably, Sundance, TIFF, and VIFF.
Kelly Boutsalis is the International Programmer, Canada for the Toronto International Film Festival. She's also a freelance writer, and has written about film and television for the New York Times, NOW Magazine, Elle Canada, Flare, POV Magazine and more. She's also written about lifestyle, design, and culture for publications including Vogue, Toronto Star, Chatelaine, VICE and Toronto Life. Originally from the Six Nations reserve, she lives in Toronto. She is on the board of imagineNATIVE and a member of the Toronto Film Critics Association.

Autumn Dea is a film, television, and commercial editor from Los Angeles, CA. Originally hailing from the Philadelphia, PA area, Dea graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in film and a double minor in media studies and psychology.
Dea's unique editorial background has allowed her to work with various high-profile artists and actors, including Beyonce, Lizzo, Ewan McGregor, and Jay Duplass. Her most recent feature film BLEEDING LOVE, directed by Emma Westenberg and starring Ewan McGregor and Clara McGregor, world premiered at SXSW 2023. The film has already garnered industry praise and was chosen as one of the must-see films of the festival by Deadline's SXSW 2023 Hotlist.
Her most recent documentary feature film, LOVE, LIZZO (HBO Max), directed by Doug Pray and starring Grammy Award-winning musician and vocalist Lizzo, premiered on HBO Max in November 2022. Previously, her feature film, SHITHOUSE (IFC), directed by Cooper Raiff, won the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature at SXSW 2020 and was named Vanity Fair's 10 Best Movies of 2020. Her work in television has also received accolades including an Emmy award for THE FUTURE OF AMERICA'S PAST (PBS), and inclusion in the Tribeca Film Festival for the documentary feature THE DEATH OF MY TWO FATHERS (PBS), directed by Sol Guy.

Before arriving in Los Angeles, Joaquin worked in unscripted television for several years in New York City where he edited content for HBO Sports, NBC, Telemundo, and Bravo.
Joaquin majored in Film & Video Studies at the University of Michigan and grew up in the San Diego-Tijuana border region. As someone who has sought out and benefited from mentoring, Joaquin is now taking on the role of mentor by helping aspiring editors and assistants in navigating the path to achieving their career goals. He created the Hollywood Editing Mentor Program and Podcast to provide guidance and support for those trying to break into or advance their careers in post production.

It is an in depth conversation with award winning editors Dev Singh and Sandy Pereira, they discuss their work on the acclaimed CBC / BET+ historic drama series ‘The Porter’. Jeremy Cohen is an Emmy-nominated film and TV editor with over 20 years of industry experience. He is currently based in LA, where he has worked on shows such as FRESH OFF THE BOAT, CHILDRENS HOSPITAL, YOUNG ROCK, ALI WONG: DON WONG AND WHO IS AMERICA?, for which he was nominated for an Emmy.
Most recently, he worked on Amazon Prime's TOTALLY KILLER, which is his debut feature. He has a diverse range, having worked on a wide variety of genres, and his motto about what he wants to work on in the future is “cool stuff with cool people.”

Sarah Taylor, CCE sits down with Stephaine Filo, ACE to talk all things editing including her work on A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW, DAHMER – MONSTER: THE JEFFREY DAHMER STORY and WE GROWN NOW.
Stephanie Filo, ACE, is a 4-time Emmy winner, 7-time Emmy nominee, Peabody and ACE Eddie award winner who is celebrated for her work across film and television. Most recently, Stephanie made history as the first Picture Editor to be nominated for three editing Emmys in the same year across three different shows. Nominated for her work on Netflix’s Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, created by Ryan Murphy; Hulu’s History of the World Part II, a sequel to Mel Brooks’ iconic original film; and Robin Thede’s groundbreaking HBO series A Black Lady Sketch Show, Stephanie’s nominations also make her the first Black editor to be nominated 3 times for Picture Editing in a single year. Stephanie has also been a part of other prior history-making Emmy wins as well. In 2020, for the news documentary Separated, she and Nzinga Blake became the first Sierra Leonean women to win an Emmy award. In 2021 she was awarded for Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming, making herself and her team at the time the first all Women of Color editing team to win an Emmy. Just last year in 2022, Stephanie was awarded for her work once again, making herself and her colleagues the first all-Black editing team to win an Emmy, as well as the first all-Black editing team to win an ACE Eddie award.
Aside from editing television and film, Stephanie spends much of her spare time producing and editing social action campaigns and documentaries, primarily focused on the rights of women and girls worldwide. Some of her notable campaigns include her work with the United Nations, International Labour Organization, and the Obama White House Task Force's It's On Us campaign to combat campus sexual assault. Stephanie’s charitable work has been featured in Forbes Magazine, Entertainment Tonight, Telegraph UK, Yahoo, Al Jazeera, XWhy Magazine, and various others. Her work on the news documentary series Mental State earned her a news Emmy nomination for the episode "Aging Out" about youth aging out of the American foster care system. Stephanie also earned an Emmy win for her editing on the Mental State episode "Separated" which covered ICE deportations.
Stephanie serves on the board for Girls Empowerment Sierra Leone, a social impact and feminist-based organization for Sierra Leonean girls aged 11-16. She is also one of the co-founders of End Ebola Now, an organization created in 2014 to spread accurate information and awareness about the Ebola Virus and its impact through artistic community activism. Stephanie is based in Los Angeles, CA and Sierra Leone, West Africa.

Houy also won the Emmy Award in 2017 for editing the miniseries, THE NIGHT OF. He was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for editing MID90S in 2018, and in 2022 Houy edited the critically acclaimed Netflix documentary, STUTZ.

Throughout his career, Marc has worked on an impressive list of acclaimed productions, including Emmy and Eddie award-winning Hacks, NAACP-nominated Our Kind of People, Lee Daniels’ Star, the First Run Film Festival award-winner Oakland in Blue, and Fantasia Film Festival winner Bullshit.
Marc discovered his passion for editing while working on his first short film on a 16mm Steenbeck editing machine. While Marc pursued his MFA degree in Film & TV Production at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, he wrote and directed several short films, including award-winner My Avatar, which premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival. Originally from Montreal, Canada, Marc has lived in Italy, Scotland, Singapore, Vietnam and Japan. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter.

Nena Erb, ACE, is a picture editor based in Los Angeles. Raised in an Asian immigrant family, Nena's father wanted her to be a doctor and her mother wanted her to be a pianist with the LA Philharmonic. Nena wanted to be Andy Warhol.
Armed with an art degree, a friend brought her into the industry and she started working in various capacities in production. It was her stint as an associate producer that opened her eyes to the impact of editing. It combined her love of photography and storytelling into one and she was hooked. Since then, Nena has edited projects for Warner Brothers, Apple, HBO, and others.
In 2016, she received an Emmy award on HBO's documentary series PROJECT GREENLIGHT. In addition, she has received three ACE Eddie nominations; two for her work on HBO's comedy-drama series INSECURE and the third for CW's acclaimed series CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND. Nena received her second Emmy award in 2020 for her work on season 4 of INSECURE and a third Emmy nomination in 2022 for the final season. She recently finished JOY RIDE directed by Adele Lim for Lionsgate. Her parents no longer ask if she'd reconsider medical school.

He made the jump to Los Angeles in 2013 and kicked off a career in music videos with the DANIELS’ directed 'Turn Down For What’ and further collaborated with DANIELS on the short films ‘Interesting Ball’ and ‘Boat Dad’ as well as one half of the duo, Daniel Scheinert, on the A24 feature film 'The Death of Dick Long,' which premiered at Sundance in 2018. He dipped back into documentaries in 2020 with ‘You Cannot Kill David Arquette,’ an official SXSW selection and winner of the Adobe Editing Award. His next film is Isaiah Saxon's debut feature 'The Legend of Ochi.' Along with feature films, he has edited for the Eric Andre Show, Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Haim, and Thundercat among others. Paul has also collaborated extensively with director Kahlil Joseph on projects such as ‘Lemonade’ for Beyonce, ‘Process’ for Sampha, and Joseph's most recent work 'BLK NWS.’ Paul is a partner in the editorial company PARALLAX located in Los Angeles.

With millions of views around the globe, this mini-series received rave reviews and eight Primetime Emmy Award nominations, culminating in a win for director Maria Schrader (Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series). This talk focused on the collaboration between the series’ two editors, and their journey in making the project a success.

Dana E. Glauberman, ACE is an award-winning Film Editor known for her work on critically-acclaimed projects including JUNO, UP IN THE AIR, and THE MANDALORIAN. She has garnered recognition for her craft, receiving five ACE Eddie Award nominations, a BAFTA Award nomination, a Primetime Emmy Award nomination, and three “Editor of the Year'' accolades. GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE will be Glauberman’s seventh feature film partnership with director Jason Reitman. She is currently working on Disney+’s THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT.
Nathan Orloff is an editor who has worked in various positions in post production before cutting for Jason Reitman on TULLY. He’s been to a galaxy far, far away… and where no one has gone before. With his latest feature, he’s busted ghosts one frame at a time with GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE. Nathan recently finished PLAN B, a critically-acclaimed comedy for Hulu that championed diverse stories and voices, both on and off the screen.

In this episode Sarah Taylor sits down with Kim French the creator of Edit Girls. Edit Girls is a collection of career stories from women working in Post-Production. It began life as an Instagram page, which was founded by Kim French, and kept going with the support of Mathew White and now has a home on it’s webpage www.editgirls.org
Edit Girls was born out of frustration at a lack of seeing these stories being told when Kim knew they were out there. She started her career as an editor back in 2006 and would have loved to have had this kind of insight into how other women started their journeys as editors, VFX artists, colourists and sound engineers.
Kim started by reaching out to editors that she knew to share their stories but it didn’t take long for women to start approaching her wanting to share how they started their careers and give insight into their working life. It quickly became clear that this was a much-needed space and the response has been so heartwarming.
Kim and Sarah discuss her career journey and how platforms like edit girls are much needed in our society and industry!

Named one of Playback’s 2019 Five to Watch, Madison Thomas is a Writer, Director and Editor from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her work reflects her mixed cultural roots, Ojibwe, Saulteax, Russian and Ukrainian. Thomas draws inspiration from experiences growing up in the inner city and has committed herself to diverse representation in her work.
This episode offers a look at a unique and impressive career in which Thomas has often taken on multiple roles and frequently edits her own work. This experience includes being a Senior Editor- as well as Researcher and Director - on four seasons of the CSA-nominated CBC / APTN series Taken, which shares the true stories of Canada’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous women. Thomas also wrote, directed, and edited her feature film Ruthless Souls, which was selected as part of Telefilm’s inaugural Talent to Watch program, as well as her web series The Colour of Scar Tissue. Also a rising star in scripted television, Thomas was a writer on season 3 of the CBC/CW series Burden of Truth.

She holds a BFA in Music Theatre from the University of Windsor and is also a graduate of Etobicoke School of the Arts. It’s been one year since our worlds have changed and we thought it was a good time to check in on our mental health.
Sarah Taylor sits down with psychotherapist Rebecca Day to talk about our mental health as creatives in the midst of a pandemic.
Rebecca Day is a qualified psychotherapist and freelance documentary producer. She founded her company, Film In Mind in 2018 to address mental health in the film industry and has spoken at festivals such as Berlinale, IDFA, Getting Real Documentary Conference, WIFT and Sheffield DocFest on the issue. She offers therapeutic support and supervision to filmmakers working in difficult situations and with vulnerable people, as well as consultancies and workshops on mental health in the film industry.
Her previous feature, Becoming Animal, directed by Emma Davie & Peter Mettler was a Scottish/Swiss co-production and premiered at CPH Dox in 2018. She is currently working with the impact team on Evelyn, an intimate and poignant film about death by suicide, made by academy award-winning director Orlando Von Eisendel at Grain Media and is producing a documentary with first-time feature director, Duncan Cowles titled, Silent Men.

On its release in 2017, Black Cop garnered critical acclaim as an unapologetic challenge of race and police. Lisa has been editing for 20 years on a variety of television and film projects. She has been recognized for her work internationally. Lisa talks about her path on becoming an editor and her aspects of editing. Lisa entered the film industry in 1989, initially working as a camera assistant and in 1995 changed careers moving into post-production. She settled into her first editing job in 1998 and she has been editing ever since. Lisa is a highly regarded editor with movie and series credits for Lifetime, Disney, Sony, Showcase, Hallmark, USA, ABC, CBC, CTV, and Grenada. Her determination and work ethic as an editor has been recognized with many nominations and awards. Lisa has been nominated for three Daytime Emmys (Monsterville: Cabinet of Souls and two for R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour), she has 10 Awards and 14 nominations. Lisa is best known for her work on My Life Without Me, Loudermilk, Unspeakable, The L Word, You Me Her, R.L. Stine’s: The Haunting Hour and Continuum.

Ricardo came to Canada from his native Cuba in 1993, where he studied and worked at the world-renowned Cuban Film Institute in Havana. He has been a fellow of the Sundance Institute (as alumnus and adviser) for several years for the Documentary Editing and Story Lab and The Composer and Sound Design Lab. His film Sembene! (2015), premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and at the Cannes Film Festival. Marmato (2014) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

In this episode Sarah Taylor sits down with the 2019 career achievement recipient Doug Wilkinson. Doug is a post production supervisor based in Toronto and has worked on many Canadian classics like “My Secret Identity”, “Street Legal” and "The Kids in the Hall". Doug has also worked on films like “Requiem for a Dream.” and "The Shape of Water".
Over those years Doug has earned the respect and friendship of many in the editing department as well as producers. His leadership has put him at the forefront of in-demand Post Supervisors and is a model by which all in editing strive to achieve.

In today’s episode Sarah Taylor sit down with Kimberlee McTaggart, CCE. Kimberlee has been working in the Canadian film industry for over 30 years.
She graduated from York University with a BFA in film, where she won the Dean’s Prize for Excellence and a national prize from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and TV. More importantly, she met a bunch of cool people who inspired her then and continue to do so today. Despite spending her university years in Toronto, a city she loves, she was immediately drawn back to her home province of Nova Scotia where she has carved out a varied and successful career.
Kimberlee produced, directed, and/or edited several award-winning documentaries before beginning to work exclusively in post production in 1994. She also began to work exclusively on non-linear systems, glad to leave the Moviolas and Steenbecks behind! Kimberlee has edited several dramatic series such as Lexx, Gullages, Made in Canada, This Hour has 22 Minutes, Call Me Fitz, Studio Black, Seed, Pure and Diggstown. Her work on the Call Me Fitz pilot brought her one of the last Gemini Awards. She was also nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for her work on both Call Me Fitz and Seed, as well as the feature film Blackbird.
Kim took a break from editing for a few years to run a production company where she and her business partner produced several documentaries and two documentary series. She also worked as a business affairs consultant for other companies during this time, and executive produced several short dramatic films. And now, after being back in the editor’s chair for 10 years, she is dipping her toes back in to the producing waters, beginning with the award-winning short film Pearls. In addition to serving on the Board of the CCE, Kimberlee serves as the Chair of Women in Film and Television – Atlantic as well as the Editing Caucus Representative of the Atlantic Regional Council of the DGC.

Her work has been recognized with several editing awards for such films as the classic feature documentary Forbidden Love (1992 Atlantic Film Festival), The Four Seasons Mosaic (2005 Gemini nomination, Best Editing in a Performance Program), And We Knew How to Dance (1994 Columbus, Best Documentary) and Omar Khadr: Out of the Shadows which received a 2016 Emmy nomination and won 2016 DGC Award.

FAST HORSE follows the return of the Blackfoot bareback horse racing tradition in a new form: the Indian Relay. Siksika horseman Allison Red Crow struggles to build a team with second-hand horses and a new jockey, Cody Big Tobacco, to take on the best riders in the Blackfoot Confederacy at the Calgary Stampede.

Dean worked on the series The littlest Hobo, Night Heat and countless dramas, comedies, documentaries and factual programs. He was at the forefront of the evolution of editing from film to digital, working on the most advanced editing platforms of the day, including being an early user of Avid systems. Dean became acclaimed not only for his editing work, but also for his role as a friend and mentor to many in the industry.
