The "What's Your Revolution" show with Dr. Charles Corprew, is a show for men and the people who love them where we dialogue about how men can find and embrace the healthiest version of themselves.
In this powerful and reflective episode of the "What's Your Revolution?" show, host Dr. Charles Corprew invites the Honorable Shawn R. Lacey, the Third District Representative of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, to discuss the enduring legacy and impact of Omega men on their communities. Recorded as a special Founder's Day episode, this conversation navigates the deep ties of fraternity, leadership, and the essence of uplifting Black men in America.Dr. Corprew and Brother Lacey take listeners on an emotional journey through their shared love for New Orleans, highlighting the city's unique culture and the profound influence it has on its people. Brother Lacey’s stories of leadership and perseverance resonate deeply, emphasizing how the values instilled by Omega Psi Phi’s founders continue to guide modern-day leaders. For listeners unfamiliar with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, it was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. by three undergraduates – Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper, and Frank Coleman – along with their faculty advisor, Dr. Ernest Everett Just. These visionaries sought to build a brotherhood rooted in the principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. Omega Psi Phi was the first international fraternal organization founded on the campus of a historically Black college. Over the past century and change, the fraternity has cultivated a legacy of service, leadership, and activism, producing some of the most influential figures in the world. The episode delves into bridging generational gaps, fostering unity, and redefining leadership for the next era. With personal anecdotes, laughter, and heartfelt discussions, the two illuminate what it means to embody true manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. Whether reminiscing about pivotal moments in their upbringing or challenging contemporary narratives, this episode serves as a testament to the power of mentorship, brotherhood, and collective responsibility.Listeners are called to reflect on their own roles as leaders and change makers. This episode is a tribute to the revolutionary spirit that not only built Omega Psi Phi but continues to inspire generations to uphold and expand its mission. Dr. Corprew’s parting words, “Nothing great in life happens without a revolution,” echo as an enduring reminder that the legacy of humanity is only as strong as those committed to carrying it forward.

My dear friend and fraternity brother Frank Walton, CEO of Walton Funeral Home joins me on the show to talk about fatherhood, but more importantly generational wealth and generation legacy. We also discuss how to protect it from the legacy infrastructures attempting to take it awayTakeawaysFatherhood is a special and rewarding experience that shapes a person's life. The values and lessons instilled by fathers have a lasting impact on their children.Creating generational wealth involves passing down businesses and assets to future generations.Hard work and perseverance are key to building a successful business and achieving financial stability. Building a generational legacy and wealth requires hard work, dedication, and long-term relationships with customers.Small businesses, especially those owned by marginalized communities, face threats to their generational wealth, such as land loss due to infrastructure projects.Protecting and fighting for generational legacies is crucial to preserving the hard work and achievements of previous generations. The power imbalance between small businesses and large entities can make it challenging to protect generational wealth.
In this conversation, Travis and I discuss the importance of communication in building relationships and the impact of heart health on sexual performance. More specifically, we delve into the role of diet in maintaining heart health and how a plant-based diet can improve sexual function. Finally, we discuss closing the year and looking ahead to personal revolutions. We discuss the importance of expanding one's revolution, not staring at the finish line, and linking one's likes to their goals. We explore letting go and moving forward, reframing relationships, and giving one's talent to the world. The conversation emphasizes the need for progress rather than perfection and encourages listeners to take a chance on change. It's wonderful to end the year and begin the next with a revolution!Takeaways1. Effective communication is essential for building strong relationships.2. Heart health plays a significant role in sexual performance.3. A plant-based diet can improve heart health and sexual function.Blood viscosity affects sexual health, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help.4. Shame and misconceptions around erectile dysfunction should be addressed.5. Closing out the year is an opportunity to reflect on personal revolutions and set goals for the future. Expand your revolution by looking beyond your immediate surroundings and considering the broader impact you can make.6. Don't focus solely on the finish line; instead, look beyond it and keep running towards your next goal.7. Link the things you enjoy doing with your goals and aspirations to create a fulfilling and purposeful life.8. Let go of people and things that no longer align with your growth and surround yourself with a supportive community.9. Reframe relationships by introducing others to the new version of yourself and understanding their perspectives.10. Give your talent to the world and positively impact others' lives.11. Take a chance at change and embrace progress rather than striving for perfection.
I met Marcus in early 2019 and he changed my life. It was my first season at Camelback Ventures and I was drinking from a fire hose while l learned my new role. Marcus was one of the founders we invested in during that cycle. His revolution resonated with me because he was building a school for our most precious demographic, Black boys. Little did I know, I was changing his life too. With a negative balance in his checking account and only faith in his hand, the call one day in January to let him know he had been accepted into the fellowship proved that prayer, faith, and work could do wonders. Marcus' leadership during the fellowship and our most chaotic periods moved me, gave me resolve, and pushed all of us forward. This riveting and thoughtful conversation highlights the journey of a father, mentor, educator, and philanthropist who has given his life to uplifting the world. His revolution - to love unconditionally is a road map for us all.
Just me - Dr. Charles Corprew thinking about what revolution looks like personally, communally, and globally. In my musings, I talk about the power of community, camaraderie, growth, success, and challenges we all face and why answering the most thought-provoking of your life will help you move quicker and more fervently to be the most revolutionary version of yourself.
What's Good Revolutionaries?!"So I'm out here and my revolution is to help guys, like you mentioned earlier, embrace their natural evolution, right? Be who you are, and be authentic in doing so, because I believe life is so much easier to live when you're being authentic and you have a much powerful, much more powerful story when you're authentic. And that's been my superpower all my life, my authentic, being authentic."My guest is Kene Onuorah - founder and CEO of Comme Homme, a health and skincare brand for men and the people who love them as men go on their journey to embracing the power of their baldness.I met Kene at the illustrious Black Venture Summit put on by W.E Build Tulsa and rockstar thought leader and entrepreneur Ashli Simms. Kene journey to baldness was unlike mine, one day I shaved it, got positive affirmations, and kept it moving. For other men, Hair loss can be quite traumatic. There is anxiety, shame, and embarrassment. What do we do? We figure out how to embrace it. Kene discovered that once men embrace it, there are products men need to help them, thus Kene created "Comme Homme" - with the understanding that men need to come home, embrace their baldness. Kene's podcast - Bald to Bold is an opportunity for men to talk about their journey to embracing boldness/baldness. It is a much-needed conversation! To get his products make sure you go to CommeHomme.com - Revolutionaries make sure you go support this brother!
What's Good Revolutionaries? "I don't know if I've ever told this story on the show, Dr. Batts and I, you know, I figured it was, it was time. It was time for me to tell this story of my journey, my journey of getting to a better version of myself. And, you know, in 2015, I was, you know, I broke up with my ex-fiance who I think is one of the greatest humans on earth in January of 2015. And I didn't care about anybody. I mean, when I say that, I didn't care about anybody but myself. Literally, literally nobody. And I did things that represented my sole care for my pleasure, right? And my sole understanding that life revolved around me. And I didn't care about anybody else. I didn't care about my friends. I didn't care about the people that I was with. I cared about myself. And I did things that I regret. I did things back then, this version of me looks back and says, you know what, mm-mm, nah. But I remember late in 2015, walking into my therapist's office and saying to him, these words, Dr. Batz, I'm a piece of shit. Because I had known that I had done things under the sole understanding, the auspices, that it didn't matter. what anybody else thought, it was just about me. And I knew that I needed to change my life. I knew that I needed to turn around. I needed to care about something greater than myself. So I walked into the therapist's office and said, I'm a piece of shit and I don't wanna feel like this anymore. And so for the last eight years, I have worked on myself. I've worked on being a better human, being a better man, being a better son, being a better Godfather, being a better friend, being a better frat brother, being better, being better at showing up for myself, being very self-aware, understanding the frailties of who I am as a human, being also understanding that at some point I needed to give myself grace for the past versions of myself." - Dr. CharlesI have never talked about my past on the show. I always felt a sense of shame when referencing it, but at some point, the story needed to be told. This show started because I needed a way out, something to guide me as I moved through my journey. I went looking for the content and it wasn't there. Thus, WYR was born. It was needed because I didn't want to be that version of myself anymore, the one who only cared about himself, the one who made decisions solely for himself. I wanted to be different. Every guest on this show over the last 7 years has helped me and thousands of revolutionaries fulfill their answer to the most thought-provoking question of their life.In this episode, Dr. Batts and I discuss one of the greatest gifts we have in life, the power to forgive. It is funny that when you are looking for forgiveness for your past, life will present you with opportunities to forgive. it is up to you to work through your "ish" and hopefully revolutionize your existence. Be on the lookout for our new website and our course on how to answer the question, "What's Your Revolution?" but also what to do once you have the answer! - we love you and are here for you! Also - make sure you check out Dr. Batt's podcast - The "About that Life" podcast on Youtube!
At the show's recording, it would have been almost a year since my father passed. As I have talked at length about Charles S. Corprew Jr. and what he meant to me, what his light meant to me. And then I think about this, and I probably never said this on the show, Revolutionaries, that in my introspection about my relationship with my father, I realized that he was an only child and I wasn't only a child. And once we broke the barriers of being father and son, it was always there, that auspices of being father and son was always there. But I realized that my father and I were not only fraternal brothers but also brothers. We laughed and joked and played ever since I was a child. And it was the roughhousing and joking and laughter and going to basketball games and baseball games and track meets and everything. The reality of that was that my father was my brother and we enjoyed that camaraderie. But if you remember as I've talked so much at length here on this show that the last five years of his life, his light was stolen, and that I became his caregiver because of Alzheimer's and dementia. And so I think it is very, very important as I think about who listens to the show and think about being a caregiver. How do we think about Alzheimer's and dementia? How do we even take care of ourselves as we develop? How do we move through those spaces so we can not lose the last five years of our lives? And I began to think about who I want on the show to talk with me about this work, his work, and how we mitigate and deter some of the things that really exacerbate Alzheimer's. And I began to look and I found this wonderful, wonderful brother who not only is a JMU grad like myself but is one of the foremost gerontologists in the country. Dr. Robert Turner. Dr. Robert W. Turner II is an assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Research and Leadership with a secondary appointment in the Department of Neurology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is a health disparities researcher with ethnographic and mixed methods training, and you know that I love that because my dissertation was both. His current National Institute on Aging funded the K-1 Award examined psychosocial and neurocognitive risk and protective factors and accelerated cognitive aging. and mild traumatic brain injury among former NCAA Division I and former NFL athletes. His book, Not For Long, The Life and Career of the NFL Athlete is out for anyone to purchase, to really, really understand what's going on when it comes to brain health for our athletes. What is Alzheimer's Well, I'm going to do it in the simplest form. In the simplest form, we have brain cells and neurons, and they communicate with one another. And I'm learning in a lot of different ways. The human body is just the most amazing thing. But your brain communicates with your arm or your hand and tells it to move. Well, it has to have clear pathwaysthe electronic pulses, and the messaging to be sent that way. And so what you have is when you wind up having these damaged brain cells of which you have plaques and you have tangles. And so that winds up happening with the tangles is they glob up together and then they break off and then so, therefore, they cannot, the pathways are just broken. You know, you have clogged arteries from plaque in your arteries, right? And the messaging can't flow, the blood can't flow through that. And so essentially what winds up happening, and it's, and most people think it's all about losing your memory. It's not about just that at all. It's your ability to have, your memory, your executive functioning, your ability to control, you know, your body. What's good revolutionaries? Sometimes a chance meeting can lead to friendship and collaboration. I met Armond Davis, CEO and Managing Partner at the Paragon Group while working with the good folx at ACT House. Although he's a part of that other 1911 Fraternity, Brother Davis comes to show to talk about his journey from the bottom to now we're here. He was literally almost a tragedy of the 2008 recession, but God had another plan for him. Now he spends his time investing and pouring into rockstar founders who are creating products and services that will revolutionize how we live. This show, alongside a Masterclass in radical empathy, also showcases how all of us can build wealth by finding creative ways to invest in early-stage disruptive companies. It's an asset class that we need to talk more about! Enjoy. Please make sure that you subscribe, like, leave a comment, and share with all your friends and family!
What's Good Revolutionaries? I hope all is well with you. Relationship building is a key to success in life. The more extensive your network, the bigger the opportunities you have to support people, and the bigger the opportunities you have for people to support you. B. Keith Fulton is one of those people who I found by using my network. One day we just happened to be sitting in a room together because our next brought us together. BK, as he is affectionately known, is the CEO of Soulidifly, a former high-level exec at Verizon, an award-winning filmmaker, entrepreneur, rockstar investor, and loving brother. You may ask how he accomplished this by 56. Well the answer, in short, is that he planned it out while sitting in the "Stacks" at Virginia Tech while reading the varied stories of Black pioneers. It would be those stories that led him to craft a journey of success, one that brought him from the depths of almost flunking out of VT to now being one of its board of Rectors. His mantra is "Have faith, do the work, and believe in the outcome". Please make sure you subscribe, like, and share the podcast with all your friends.

What's Good Revolutionaries? - Have you ever thought about what your body would feel like if you imbibed good news every day? Research suggests that the consumption of the typical new cycle has deleterious effects on the psyche and body. It increases anxiety and depression. Yet, studies also show that when we see positive things happening in the world, we are more likely to see good in people. My dear brother and friend, Muhammad Lila - CEO of Goodable joins me on the show to detail his new disruptive venture and how we can "revolutionize" our lives one good story at a time.

What's good, Revolutionaries? In the ever-evolving tapestry of human history, there are individuals who rise above the rest, trailblazers whose brilliance and resilience shine through the darkest of times.
The question has always been, What does leadership look like for black men?
Leadership is more than just a title or a position of authority; it is a force that emanates from within, captivating hearts and minds, igniting the flames of change, and leaving an indelible mark on humanity. It is an intuitive art honed through experience, empathy, and a profound understanding of the human spirit.
Today, it's a pleasure to have Christopher Chatmon @babachris, The CEO of Kingmakers of Oakland (KOO) on the show, as we delve into the captivating world of leadership - a realm where Black men have emerged as true beacons of change and progress.
Chatmon founded KOO, served as the first Executive Director of the African American Male Achievement ("AAMA") for the Oakland Unified School District ("OUSD"), and was named a "Leader to Learn From" by Education Week magazine.

What's Good Revolutionaries? My spiritual teacher, childhood friend, Rapper, and Military Chaplin - Pastor Osaze Murray drops back in to continue our conversation on faith. In our last episode, "The Power of Faith In Unsettling Times, Pastor Oszae honed in on how our faith must be strong as we navigated an unprecedented pandemic and horrific divisions in our country. This time, Osaze and I discuss how to find stillness in unsettled times so that we can find our path to God, purpose, and the fulfillment of our revolution. Stillness is the moment in which life is quiet and we can peer inside to find the truest version of ourselves.
As usual, there are vulnerable moments on each side. One, in particular, is my revelation that I may not know how to pray. In one of the most riveting aspects of the show, Pastor Murray details what our prayers should entail. It was uplifting and motivating. His words are a practice I will continue to use for the rest of my life.

What are your non-negotiables? How are you showing up as the best version of yourself? What do you need to pull back on? How willing are you to be vulnerable? These are all things Kish and I discuss. What's Good Revolutionaries? What happens when you wake up and you see life from a different perspective? What happens when you begin to take full responsibility for your life? The result is, you become a conscious human, a conscious leader. Filmmaker, Former Head of Production at Meta (Yes, Meta), and now acclaimed leadership coach with Conscious Leadership Group, Joyce Chen joins me on the show to detail how we can revolt and evolve into the people we need to be. There are so many gems, but one that stands out is how Joyce details the value of a "whole body yes" when making decisions. This alone has shifted how I move through world and how I decide what my next revolution is going to be. JOYCE SAYS "A WHOLE BODY YES IS THE PATH TO GENIUS"?Joyce left a high-paying dream job at one of the most influential companies in the world to move at her own pace. This is a revolution! Who does this? Joyce did and she details how we all can find joy, peace, and happiness while creating a life that allows us to have the impact on the world that we desire. Please see Joyce's blog to discover her why and how you can unsubscribe from the toxic tenets that hold us back from experiencing our most exquisite life. https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/6962864009666580480/You can learn more about conscious leadership at consciousleadership.io and make sure that you go get the book, the 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership.
What's good revolutionaries? In the second installment of our recurring conversation, Dr. Travis Batts jumps back in with me to talk about freedom, whether or not we need Black History Month, and how we can figure a plan for righteous self-care. We also do a deep dive into the first two tenets of fulfilling your revolution, "Revolt and Evolve" and "Know Your Choice Points". During the show, Dr. Batts and I revel in life and find humor in the everyday things Black men go through, such as finding and embracing a barber regime. :)
Episode Note: This was recorded in October 2022, but we felt it would be good to partner it with friend of the podcast, Chris Matthews' episode. What's good Revolutionaries? As we continue to delve deeper into how to have relationships that uplift us and not deplete us, my dear brother and friend, Dr. Jude Austin, LMFT, and Assistant Professor, University of Mary Hardin - Baylor, joins me on the show to talk about how therapy can be the panacea we need to find and embrace a healthy relationship. Dr. Jude has an infectious spirit, a wealth of knowledge, and a grace that supplants him as one of the go-to sages in his field. What is powerful about this conversation is that Dr. Jude and I spend a considerable amount of time talking about what generational love looks like. This is formidable as we have to think about what our children view as giving and receiving love. It is our job that they see positive examples of love so that they can go out in the world free of trauma. As Romal Tune describes, what would it be like to walk in a world free of Trauma? Yet, Dr. Jude gives us a road map on how to mitigate that trauma, if experienced. This one will have you on the edge of your seat! Please check out Dr. Jude's Work, at https://drjudeaustincounseling.squarespace.com/Also, check out the show's sponsor, Scotch Porter. Revolutionaries can get 25% off any order of $40 or more with the code WYR 25, exclusively at ScotchPorter.com until March 31, 2023. You can also hear the great episode with Scotch Porter's Founder, Calvin Quallis.
Last year, the queen of relationship talk, Kishshana Palmer joined the show to talk about how to be healthy in a healthy relationship from a woman's perspective. This year, in one of the most informative and thought-provoking conversations I have had, Nationally renowned LMFT Chris Matthews joins me to talk about what it means to be healthy in a healthy relationship from a man's perspective. Our conversation traversed a host of topics from ghosting, attachment theory, direct communication, and what to say when you're done so you won't look like an a-hole. Chris is riveting, highly intellectual, and one of the best teachers you will find regarding how to get into and stay in a healthy relationship. This is a show that you will bookmark and come back to time and time again. Also, check out the show's sponsor, Scotch Porter. Revolutionaries can get 25% off any order of $40 or more with the code WYR 25, exclusively at ScotchPorter.com until March 31, 2023. You can also hear the great episode with Scotch Porter's Founder, Calvin Quallis.
The celebrate 6 years of the WYR show, friend of the podcast and CEO and founder of Scotch Porter, Calvin Quallis joins me talk about the ascension of the fastest growing hair and beard care brand in the country and ultimately how we build a legacy - one that allows folx to be revolutionary immediately and in the future. This is key because life if about leaving something behind so that others have a road map to live more fruitful. Calvin's story is indicative of Black Success - never letting obstacles stand in the way. By overcoming these obstacles, Calvin learned how to stand in gap all the while creating a brand representative of the values that were instilled in him from an early age.
It has been a wonderful journey. 6. year ago in a small room in at WBOK, the WYR show birthed. 6 Years later, there are 146 shows, over 50K listens, and we are a 10% percent Global podcast. Our goal, to keep providing our revolutionaries with great content from the pivotal men and women - the thought leaders who are revolutionizing their sectors, transforming their communities, and doing the hard work on themselves to show fully in the world. This episodes chronicles some of the best of Year 5, our most prolific to date. My guest run the gamut - teaching us how to show up, how to eat better, how to live longer, how to go from self-care to soul-care, and how to have better sex (shh) to name a few. This is the episode that will change your life and give your a road map for the next revolution!. Enjoy. We want to thank our sponsor for the show, Scotch Porter, the fastest Hair and bead care brand in the country. Scotch Porter was founded by my dude, Calvin Quallis. To celebrate our partnership, Scotch Porter is offering 25% of any order $40 dollars or more until March 31st, 2023, exclusively at ScotchPorter.com. With over 26,000 five star reviews, Scotch Porter gets it right. In fact, they just dropped a new line of body wash with Shea Butter, Marula Oil, and Botanicals. This will ensure that your drip is on point. Also, huge shout to VP of Brand, Aleesha Worthington for all the love.
To be a 1% podcast we can't continue to do the things we have always done. Thus, as we continue to birth this revolution out into the world, one of my midwives, Dr. Travis Batts joins me for a recurring, unscripted show. In this episode of the show, Dr. Batts and I go back and forth about a myriad of topics, but we find time to talk about what I have learned after doing this wonderful show for 6 years. These learnings will be the basis for our conversations over the next several months. As a teaser, one of the biggest learnings is that you can build a revolution by yourself. I hope you enjoy!
I met Will on a "humbug" walking to an event at Pharrell's Mighty Dream forum in the Fall of'22. He was a very unassuming brother, and yet the conversation was rich and intellectual. As we walked he told me his "Why", one that you will have to listen intently to capture, but it is one that symbolizes the entrepreneurial spirits of our people. Will, a man of strong faith and a belief in family discusses how our mindset about money has to change before we can build wealth. Once this change happens, you can then use the strategies he illuminates to create a path to freedom, a concept that is a part of my own revolution. Freedom to me is having the ability to ask myself "how can I do this?" without the worry of the financial consequences that may occur because of my decisions. Will gives us the path to make this happen. Enjoy!
To start 2023, my brother and lifelong friend Howard Price joins me on the show. Howard is otherworldly in his endurance pursuits having run some of the most grueling and intense endurance races in the country, sometimes on with aliments that mere mortals wouldn't attempt to face. Howard's premise is that having the right mindset will take your further than you think you can. One of the greatest pieces of our conversation is a story that Howard tells about a woman in a wheelchair who sat on the side of the road supporting racers during the intense Chattanooga Ironman. From a distance, Howard kept hearing a distinct statement from her "It's a privilege to be here". This was her revolution! She was giving her time, treasure, and talent to support the people who were doing something that she couldn't. We all have a talent, a revolution that we can give to the world. It is our mindset that allows us to make choices that will either lead us to be revolutionary or that will allow us to remain ordinary. Howard is the father of two amazing children Q and Milan and the husband to the most amazing godsister, Marquel. You can find Howard on all social media and on Strava where you can follow his endurance exploits.
What's Good Revolutionaries? Each of us walks around carrying experiences from our childhood that may impact how we show up in our varied relationships. It is our job to figure out how to leave those figurative bags on the street so that we can, as Dr. Brian Turner suggests, show up naked in the world. What he means is how can we be free? This is Dr. Turner's second episode on the show, he was one of our inaugural guests in 2017. In this episode, he drops by to talk about how trauma shows up in all our relationships, how we can mitigate the nefarious behaviors that develop to protect us when we are triggered, and what strategies we can use to have more fruitful, loving, and safe relationships. As usual, when I get someone on the show who's from New Orleans, you know we cut up as well. It is a thought-provoking episode!
This episode will have you on the edge of your seat. As we close out Prostates Awareness Month, my dear friend and Frat Brother Eddie Richardson joins me to discuss his journey to win his battle with Prostate Cancer. A man of faith and perseverance, Eddie walks me through his journey from his diagnosis to being a survivor. It is a story filled with brick walls, but Eddie took his sledgehammer with him to ensure that any challenge he faced was demolished. Riveting doesn't even begin to describe this story and the man that Eddie has become. Just so you understand, although Prostate cancer is curable, it is more aggressive and lethal to Black men, thus Eddie's story is a reminder to all men, don't take your health lightly. Please, go get checked often, if could be a matter of life and death. Enjoy this revolution!
We have talked at length about what it means to be free, freedom of time, freedom of place, and freedom of money. Yet, many of us don't know how to move out of the space that we are in to be free. Real Estate is one of the vehicles we can use to help achieve freedom. Brian Grimes, CEO of 24/7 Cashflow University joins me on the show to discuss his revolution, how to be free, how to overcome the mental blocks that inhibit us from taking the risks to be free, and then the steps he took to build a disruptive model in real estate. As we say all the time on this show, you must "Revolt and Evolve" into the revolutionary you want to be as well as "Your Revolution is not just for You". Brian Grimes embodies all of this and more. If you are looking for a show that will disrupt your thinking, this is it!

On September 16th, my father's physical light was extinguished. He was my utter, my guy, my best of the best friend. Charles S. Corprew, Jr. was a juggernaut of man. He was the penultimate father. To honor his legacy, author Romal Tune joins me on the show to discuss his forthcoming book, "I Wish My Dad: The Power of vulnerable conversations between fathers and sons. A wonderful primer, co-authored by 17 men as they discuss the things their fathers had done in their relationships. For me, I wish my dad was still here! Yet, for many, they detail how they wished their fathers were there more often or had been more vulnerable, or been more loving. Fathers are staples of our lives and this book and these authors highlight how some fathers need to step up. Yet for others, like myself, I wish my dad had seen me get married or coupled. I wish my dad had a grandson to love on as he loved on me for 50+ years. I wish my dad was still here!
The conversation between Romal and I weaves its way through overcoming trauma, showing up in a world trauma-free, to understanding the roles of our fathers in our lives and how these folx are pivotal to our ability to thrive in the world. I just have to say this! I have the dopest guest on this show!

We have talked at length about what self-care looks like on the show, but what happens when we take care of our souls? It looks like a more deliberate process of spirituality, mediation, promise, and practice. Dr. David Wallace, Founder of Dream House Lounge, joins the show to awaken us as he delves into how the practice of soul-care will lead us to our liberation (freedom). Freedom is a place where there are no barriers or restraints in the fulfillment of our revolutions. Freedom is bliss, Freedom is the revolution! During the show, David talks about the path to liberation, his journey toward soul-care, and how his dream manifested in the creation of the novel lounge that transforms you from top to bottom.
Make sure, if you are in New Orleans you stop by the Dream House Lounge, Dr. Wallace's alcohol-liberated spot that allows you to rejuvenate your mind and your soul. It literally is soul-care in a bottle!
Rockstar Venture Capitalist Drew Glover, Founder of Fiat Growth and Managing Director of Fiat Ventures drops by the show to talk about how to always become the next/best version of yourself. Growth is imminent but you have to be diligent in how you spec out what it looks like for yourself. Drew details how his path to success wasn't traditional but he embraced each version of himself as a chance to become greater. What is important to remember is that as we are becoming the best next version of ourselves we will need midwives to help us with our dreams. Fiat Ventures and Fiat Growth are the product of him and his partner seeing a space that could disrupt when they were able to come together to make their dreams come true. No matter the stage of life, we will always need partnership. There are also some nuggets on how to be a company, how to disrupt an industry and the joy of fatherhood.
When was the last time you belly laughed? Do you know what laughter can do for your body and mind? Laughter is the panacea for life. I remember going through my first recognized depression in college. It was laughter with Jeri Lynn in the hallways of Chandler Hall that got me through. Sensational and rising star, Comedian Syrok Foxx joins me on the show to discuss how laughter led him out of anger. Syrok is a kid from Cleveland, a veteran, and who found himself at the brink and needed a way out. Comedy was his medicine. The one gem that he drops is that you have be the person you want to be five years from on day 1. As Elijah Moses says, the beginning of your revolution begins when you "Revolt and Evolve". This is one both intellectual and comedic from the start. Enjoy!
What's good Revolutionaries? Learning to be free begins with the ability to let go of the external forces that attack us daily and to find the time and space for us to look inward. Former White House luminary and Political Operative, now CEO of Active Peace Yoga joins me on the show to talk about his journey out of the stressful political ranks that saw him as he says, "smoking cigarettes and drinking bourbon for breakfast" to leaning into a practice of yoga and meditation that have allowed him to be free. As Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley quips, "When Reggie Hubbard walks into a room, the collective heart rate decreases. Reggie is unapologetically Black and proud. He is a peaceful force that motivates you to think about how cultivating your own peace will allow you to fulfill your revolution. You will be excited by this episode. It will uplift you, push you, and make you want to learn how to implement the practices Reggie talks about right now.
Shout out to my production team - Seko Varner and Sarah Boyinde. A Special thank you to my dude, Mark Berger for setting this interview up.
What's good Revolutionaries? "if you're not waking up in the world to work on making an impact for someone else, then you are not living right" - Darius Baxter. Award-winning CEO of DC Based "Good Projects" joins me on the show to give a masterclass in how to answer our signature question and then go out in the world to make your revolution a reality.
At a young age (he is still young) Darrius saw the need to change the mindset and circumstances of the most precious demographic in DC, its impoverished. His goal is to help 500 families move out of the ills of poverty into spaces where they can thrive, but first Darrius helps to change the mindset.
In a riveting conversation, Darrius chronicles his ascendency, his spirituality, the need for rest, his relationship with his mother (Stephanie), his vulnerabiliy, and the importance of health and wellness. He believes like most of our guests that our revolutions are not just for us and that we must go out in the world and ensure that we are doing good, fulfilling work. It is that work, that will bring us joy and fulfillment.
Thank you to my engineer Seko Varner and my associate Sarah for making all of this happen!
What's good Revolutionaries? What makes you want to have sex time and time again?
Sex has always been a taboo subject, yet its objectification is in our faces every day. Some of us learn early what sex is, this may or not be good. For boys as they mature, and particularly in this era of easy access to images, sex and intimacy may not be married together. (e.g. Pornhub) Thus, some may wonder, what is good sex? How can sex be more intimate? How can I be safe during a sexual encounter? Is it ok to be with more than one partner? What will make me want to be with just one partner? How do I pleasure my partner and a host of other questions? Continuing our Relationship series and following up the mega-successful episode with Kishshana Palmer. Dr. Sonjia Kenya joins me on the show. She is America's sexologist, an associate professor of Medicine at the University of Miami, the author of Sex in South Beach, and the host of the podcast with the same name.
In this episode, we talk about the mind-body corollary when it comes to mind-blowing sex and how to create a safe space for sex to happen without worry. Dr. Sonjia remarks you can't have great sex if you are worried about the experience. For many men who experience erection problems, feeling psychologically unsafe may be the issue. We also discuss the steps men and the people who love them can take to have better sex tonight.
In the midst of the conversation, we talk about how to be an ally to our LGBTIA brothers and sistas. It is a wonderful thing when we can celebrate "Sex", not just cisgender, heterosexual sex. This is a riveting, informative, eye-opening, and humourous conversation about a topic that is critical to our longevity and health. Please enjoy it like you enjoy your sex life.
Please check out Dr. Sonjia on her podcast - Sex in South Beach and her book of the same name. You can find all of her materials at DrSonjia.com
Have you ever thought of yourself as a brand, You know like Nike, Target, Black Enterprise, etc? If you haven't, it is time that you begin to cultivate your brand and send it out to the world. In a world where everyone is on social media selling something, how will you stand out? The imagineer, CEO of the McKnight Image Lab joins me on the show to discuss how to shape your brand and how to inbound opportunities for you to excel personally and professionally. David has shaped the image of some of the most sought after personalities in the country. He drops some pearls of wisdom and concrete strategies on steps one needs to take to sharpen their image. Although, not a huge fan of Kevin Samuels, one thing the brother did do right was creating a brand and image that brought folx to him. How do you do the same and project a message that will empower people to grow and thrive? Brother McKnight shows us the way!
As we continue our journey on cognitive and heart health and longevity, my new friend and revolutionary, Dr. Travis Batts joins me to talk about what everyday things we can do to live forever. Heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes are the most prolific killers of men in our country, but we can mitigate these diseases by moving toward a more plant-based/plant-forward diet. Dr. Batts chronicles his journey, the insights he has learned from his family and patients, and how we need to take out "Meds" to ensure we live a healthy and fruitful life. Coupled with Turnip Vegan's "How To Save Your Life", this episode will revolutionize how you think about what you are putting in your mouth. One of my favorite comments from Dr. Batts is, "We have to think of food as we think about sex". "We must have a healthy, intimate relationship with it, only then will it fuel our longevity". What a great episode!
In one of the most powerful conversations I've had as a host, Todd Anderson AKA Turnip Vegan comes by the show to talk about how to save your life by going vegan. I have been curious about the impact of going plant-based or being more plant-based forward. Turnip describes in full detail how it has changed his life in more ways than he expected. He is living a fuller and more compelling life. Inside his story of change lies a sub-story that is compelling and is deeply rooted in choice points, those moments where we have to decide who we want to be, ordinary or revolutionary. Clearly, Turnip wanted to be revolutionary and his revolution is transforming lives across the nations, particularly those of people of color. Riveting doesn't even start to document how powerful this conversation is. It had me in tears.
You can check all of Turnip's social media - Turnip Vegan on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube!
Upcoming Author and New Orleans Warrior Patrick Young joins me on the show to promote his new book, "A Way Up". For so many of us, especially those who have had challenges that have led to incarceration, the road back can be pretty arduous. Although written about and for this population, the book is a road map for all of us as we journey through life's challenges financially, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Additionally, Patrick gives a masterclass on resilience, survival, moving up, and not out! It is a must-listen.

Author, Real Estate Mogul, Educator, and TED speaker, Jullien Gordon joins me on the show to discuss how to build a millionaire mindset. Many of us want the tools the become wealthy but fail at the beginning, understanding the mental facets that get you into the game. Jullien details his journey to financial freedom by building a giant real estate portfolio that began when he bought his first multifamily property in Brooklyn. Since then, he has been on the path to educating the masses about how to create a life that gets you free from the largest expense you will have, a house. Think about what you could do if you didn't have that cost every month. Yet, throughout the conversation, Jullien details why a mindset shift needs to occur before you can embark on this journey to freedom. You must embrace the millionaire mindset. I have learned a great deal from Jullien. This is a dope conversation!
Have you ever thought about what it meant to be so revolutionary that you could dismantle systems that hinder the people from living their fullest lives? Have you ever wanted to want to just say f-it and do the things that you wanted to do with your life? Dr. David Robinson-Morris joins me on the show to help us blow up our lives and those aforementioned shackles. Intersperesed with some prose from the legendary James Baldwin, a revolutionary spirit, and the strategies we need to move the world, DRM shakes up the status quo all the while detailing how we are better together than apart. In a world were DEI and CRT have become battlegrounds for contention among our people, DRM highlights why loving and understanding thy neighbor creates a better place for us to live, work, and play.
DRM is the CEO of the Reimaginelution Lab, former Chief DEI officer at Xavier, and a beacon of light for all us.
Lord knows this topic is necessary for me and I am sure for many of my revolutionaries who are looking to be healthy in a healthy relationship. Powerhouse CEO and consultant Kishshana Palmer joins me on the show to have a powerful conversation about our relationship journey, the trials, tribulations, joys, triumphs, and everything in between. Kishshana is a thought leader, author, podcaster, and so much more. She is the CEO of Kishshana & Co,
For me, I don't know if I have ever been in a healthy relationship, and I not saying everyone I have met has been unhealthy (it was me), but at this stage of my life, I want to be. Thus, Kishshana and I spend time talking about what needs to be learned to be a supportive partner and what it means to allow a supportive partner into your life. (Either you have a supportive partner or you have no partner at all). We discuss love languages, safety, toxicity, how to show up for yourself and your partner, intimacy, and what men need to do to create the relationship they want to have now and in the future. This conversation is full of laughter and joy between two folx who are open about their dating lives and experiences. Relationships are a wonderful aspect of life and can move you into in space that allows you to revolutionize yourself, however, it takes time and effort to crash into someone who is going to uplift your life.
High-Risk CEO of Brothers Empowered to Teach, Larry Irvin joins me on the inaugural What's Your Revolution? TV show to talk about his journey from the streets of New Orleans to prolific non-profit CEO to the International TED Talk Stage. Larry chronicles what it takes to overcome the limiting beliefs that can encapsulate our being and hold us captive from achieving our universal purpose. Larry prescribes the strategies he took to move past those beliefs, giving examples of how he once left a pitch stage because he thought he wasn't enough and how that moment was the catalyst for him to level up. Now Larry's TED Talk has over 1.4 million views and he can't be stopped. What you will find from this conversation is the power to let go of what you think you are and become what you know you can be in this world, that is the #revolution!
Five years ago today, January 17, 2017, I sat in a room nervous about interviewing the great New Orleanian, Oliver Thomas. It was the first episode of the What's Your Revolution? show. We had a powerful conversation and the show was born. It has been a wonderful ride and has become the ultimate passion of my life - uplifting the voices of men( and some women) who have found their calling and are spreading it to the world. These people are the revolutionaries we seek to be. They are compassionate, flawed, self-aware, inspirational leaders who seek better communities, better people. Through 128 shows with authors, activists, actors, athletes, politicians, and the like we have woven a tapestry of transformation for our listeners. My only hope is that this show has touched your life as much as it has revolutionized mine.
To celebrate 5 years, my team and I have pulled together some of the most inspiring passages from an amazing fourth year of the show. Although we could not get something from all of our amazing guests, there are transformational messages in every excerpt that we present. We hope you enjoy it and we look forward to the next year with you #revolutionaries. Thank you for all your support and love, I send it right back to you 100 fold.
Please make sure that if you like or love it, please leave a review on your favorite podcast medium!
Excerpts:
Phil Echols - How to Create Peak Moments Rashib Thomas - Path to Self Actualization Elijah Moses - How to Revolt and Evolve Shawn Dove - Reinventing Leadership Dr. Anthony Perdue - Purpose to Power Gary McCallum - Servant Leadership Thomas Drew - Compound Interest
Hands down one of the best shows of the year. Thomas Drew, the co-founder of 1and1Life, a digital mental health and wellness platform for the culture, joins me for the most riveting topic, how to be 1% percent every day, thus by the time you end your revolution you can be 365 percent better. Thomas details his journey to entrepreneurship, the struggles he faced, the successes he has achieved, and what putting life's compound interest to work looks like. THIS IS A MUST LISTEN as Thomas drops pearls on becoming the best version of yourself all the while answering the most thought-provoking question of your life!
What's the most intimate thing you put in your mouth? Food! Yet, for many of us, we don't put the same scrutiny on our food that we do with sex. In an upfront conversation, Internationally acclaimed chef and CEO of BCA Global, Alex Askew joins me to talk about the intersection of food, race, and health. Our greatest resource is our ability to think through and have access to quality nurturing food, but there is a fight raging and barriers in place that hamper folx from achieving optimal health, particularly Black and Brown folx. Alex details how we can arm ourselves for this fight of our lives by using radical responsiveness and how we must think critically at every turn when eating so that we can live a long fruitful live. To learn more, see Alex's article, Don't treat food like casual sex".
Ever wonder how that brother got his beard looking so smooth? Ever wonder what it takes to follow your dreams and never work for anyone but yourself? CEO of Rugged Evolution, Arrington Gavin, joins me to talk about his revolution, beard care for Black Men! Starting as an opportunity to create a product that fit his growing beard, like many entrepreneurs, his dream started when he went looking for something and what he wanted was not there. Gavin began experimenting with oils, scents, and butter, finding the right mix to fit his taste. Then came his friends. The rest is history. At 26, this brother's products can be found across the country or at ruggedevolution.com. What stands out in the conversation is the courage it takes to start and scale a venture, never working for someone else. You can also learn more about Arrington on his acclaimed podcast, the R Smooth Club, which is in its 3rd Season.
"Saying Yes to the things in your life that get you closer to your mission and purpose" is LA State Rep's Royce Duplessis' revolution. It is so poignant in these times where we are looking for the right track, the right station, the right place in life. Royce and I believe that right now we need to say yes to "Voting Rights". In a time where the ability to vote for many Americans is being eroded, we have to fight even harder to exercise our rights as Americans. I keep saying that, "As Americans". As Black folx, we need to uphold that belief that we are Americans and our experience in this country matters. Having policies and people who enact those policies that believe in what we believe in are important. To do that we must vote and we must push our legislators to fight for the right for all Americans to vote. Royce is doing just that in LA and is working with great folx across the country to say "Yes" to things that matter to us as American Black folx. This is a must-listen! What are you saying Yes to? What do you need to say no to that will get you where you want to go?
Dr. Anthony Perdue joins us for his yearly visit to the show. This time to discuss his new literary offering, "Purpose to Power". Anthony is a nationally recognized leadership coach and author focusing his work on helping others find their journey to authentic leadership in every context. There are so many gems in this episode, but one that offers a great deal of thought is the three questions that ask, Who's Your Master?, What's Your Motivation?, and Who's Your Mate? Dr. Perdue notes that fully understanding the answer to the questions will help guide individuals in finding their purpose. One thing to note, having the wrong answer to these questions may hinder you. Like all of our guests, Dr. Perdue drops a ton of gems for us to ponder and to incorporate into our repertoire. Enjoy this listen!

What it takes be a Champion in Life and Cycling with Charon Smith by Dr. Charles Corprew
Vibrant, Reflective, Thought-provoking, and inspirational. Pastor Victor Johnson joins the show to discuss a host of topics but the overarching theme of this episode is to understand that we can be perfect and a work in progress all at the same time This episode, filled with prose and oration, provides us with strategies on how to find your lane, find your purpose, find your community, and find your life in the midst of the drama and trauma that the world offers up to us. This is a must-listen as Pastor Vic, a wonderful leader, with an infectious story shows us that we can find peace and solace and create ourselves in a light that allows us to be our most authentic version.
Pastor Vic helps to answer: 1. How to overcome being a drug addict? (Being drug to church for everything when you were a child) 2. How to build a community that uplifts your spirit 3. How to find a spiritual lane that supports and uplifts your goals 4. What is the importance of religion and spirituality in 2021.
Pastor Vic is a leader among leaders. I hope you enjoy this episode and that it brings your peace and joy and that you find it as fascinating as I did.
W.K. Kellog Fellow, Culture of Health Leader, Program Director, Notah Begay III Foundation, father and husband, joins us on the podcast to discuss Health, Wellness, and to give us a necessary history lesson on the lived experiences of our Indigenous brothers and sisters. Too often the stories of Indigenous men and their communities are not told or told incorrectly (See Rick Santorum's comments). Gratefully there are leaders like Busta that are ensuring the narrative for Indigenous men is being told with passion and vigor. As we look for ways to be greater allies to all people of color, Busta drops a number of strategies on how to show for yourself and for those whose stories have been marginalized throughout history.
At the recording of this show, we were marking the first anniversary of George Floyd's light being stolen from the world. I've been wondering how could someone subject another human to such a horrific death. We are at the top of the chart. We have a frontal lobe that gives us the ability to think rationally about behavior, and yet in those moments, Derek Chauvin reminded me of one of the predators I watch on my Instagram feed. You know, the ones lurking in the dark ready to pounce on their prey. However, they are not human. I wanted to unpack this. My guest for this conversation is Dr. Lasana Harris, a social neuropsychologist from the University College of London. This is a riveting conversation on dehumanization and its impact on our everyday lives. The interesting thing about this conversation was that no matter how good you think you are, you dehumanize someone every day. This floored me! What Dr. Harris does in this conversation is show us the path to dehumanization and a way out. Basically, he gives a strategy on how to be a better human. That is something that we should all aspire to be. This is another must listen.
As we honor the legacy of George Floyd as well determine the practices necessary to heal from a global event such as his murder, Revolutionary of the Year, Liberate CEO, Julio Rivera joins me for a riveting conversation on burnout, finding your purpose, healing from trauma, and how to balance entrepreneurship and life. This conversation crosses a number of topics but serves as a masterclass on how to use meditation to work through trauma and to find the peace you need to live a thriving life. Julio actually shows us how to meditate successfully during the show. Please make sure you go download the Liberate app and practice, practice, practice.
"A man is what he thinketh". Joining me on the podcast is the man I call the survivalist. Nick Shucet, CEO of Roman's Tide, a multimillion-dollar reselling venture on Amazon has seen it all. Addicted to drugs and the glamorous life at an early age, Nick found himself trapped in an arduous life of crime and self-degradation, but deep down he knew there was something more for him, something better, but as we know about life, it does give us what we want when want it, it gives us what we need to prepare for our greatness. Nick needed to learn how to survive so that he could thrive. That survival began when started loving himself and allowing himself to be loved. Through it all his story is a reflection of the power of manifestation, believing in oneself, finding the right tribe, and finding that one person who loves you unconditionally. When those things are in place, you can achieve monumental goals. Nick is a true survivor and his story is a testament to finding and embracing your revolution!

I met this young brother, Andrew Albert, as he strolled across the yard at Loyola. There was something about that wreaked of greatness. He will cool, confident, humble, and entrepreneurial. We became fast friends. I have marveled at his ascension, London School of Economics, Director of VFA New Orleans, and now CEO Exclave Whiskeys. Yes, you heard that, he is a whiskey distiller at the mere age of 28. Yet, his wisdom far surpasses his years and this episode is filled with nuggets. One I won't forget is, "We must create that tables that we want to sit at." For too long we have waited for the power brokers to play nice in the sandbox, to invite us in. Andrew Albert quips, don't wait, create, and make sure that you are bringing along everyone you can for the ride. As well, what's so cool about his whiskey is not only is it good, but it is for the "culture" - To understand more, check out the entire episode as it is super dope, and this brotha, super amazing. I can't wait to see all of the amazing things he does and what revolutions he creates!
You can find out more about Andrew Albert and his amazing brand of whiskey at https://www.exclavespirits.com/spirits. Please make sure you go out and buy a few bottles for the whiskey lovers in your life.
As we continue to celebrate our 4 year anniversary, Author C. Erskine Brown returns to the show to detail the fury and fervor about his acclaimed book, "A Cry Among Men". Although published in 2016, the book's contents and themes remain relevant in our current landscape. Brown also illuminates the power of words and why we should figure out multiple ways to use those words to influence thought and positive change in the world. The OP-ED project is one way you can get those words out into the ethos. At one point, Brown asks me what do I think James Baldwin would say if asked, "What's Your Revolution?" Needless to say it is a preachable moment. Make sure you listen to the end as Brown talks about his revolution!

Returning to the show for her fourth appearance, my dear sister Rita Bautista returns to the show to continue our conversation on relationships. She is best known for her groundbreaking work creating a platform for LatinX women to share their voices. Over the course of four years, this conversation has shifted as we have grown as people and people in relationships with others. The big takeaway from this conversation is that we have to unlearn behaviors that have been socialized and ingrained in us since childhood. Simply, how do we unlearn our poor approaches to communication, learn how to stop texting our feelings and just dial, be uncomfortable, and say the thing. This is only one aspect of our growth as people as we both continue our search and embrace better versions of ourselves. This is a riveting and comical conversation as they always are between Rita and me. As someone who is fighting every day to show up better, to communicate better for the people in my life, this conversation is a critical look at two people who have been to the bottom and are rising up!
Dr. Kensa Gunther, Atlanta based sports psychologist joins the show to talk about how every day people can enhance their athletic mental health and performance. One key takeaway, "You wouldn't just pour some tussin on a broken arm and go about your business, you would run to the hospital. Why do we do this with our mental health?" The second key takeaway is that greatness exists when you learn how to navigate failure and disappointment. We must unlearn the traditional definitions of greatness, and learn to do "Hard Things". Dr. Kensa, drops the hammer, giving a lesson in growth and challenge and how to perform better not only sport but in life. Side note: Celebrate each step of the journey!
There is so much opportunity to be in our own world, but there is a greater purpose for us all. In this riveting conversation, Dr. Shaun Woodly drops in to talk about how even in the midst of a pandemic, teaching our kids requires an enormous amount of hustle and an everyday dose of inspiration. This is a moment in time for us all, teachers are one of the most critical pieces holding together a fledgling democracy. Their ability to reach students and families, giving them the ability to survive and thrive, is paramount. Dr. Woodly gives us a road map on how to ensure that we all can motivate the next generation of revolutionaries to value education and themselves!
The Lifestyle Brothers Goon and Smallz join me to talk about their escapades around the world. They are the unlikely travelers, two Black men from the Bronx who collectively have been to 120 countries around the world. Side story, I bet you can't guess which one is Goon and the other Smallz, and Goon is short for "Goonies". You will have to listen to the show to find out. What their stories tell us is that it doesn't take much to just get up and go, but you must make sure that it is an adventure. Lord knows I couldn't keep up with their schedule while traveling. I need to lay on the beach for a while. :) Please make sure to listen to the end as they give the tools needed to break the limiting beliefs around travel.

4 years ago, the consciousness of New Orleans blessed my show as its first guest. Over the years, Oliver Thomas and I have remained friends. I am a huge fan of his story of transformation. This conversation, different from the first, discusses how men of color have the tools to build the lives they wish, the key to understanding that is to believe that we are not mired in the muck of life, we are sitting in the soil taking in the necessary nutrients that will catalyze our successes. The consummate politician, orator, provocateur, Oliver spins a beautiful narrative about his revolution 4 years later. It is a wonderful show. As we celebrate 4 years of WYR, we will continue to have more of my favorite guests on to mark this journey. Please make sure you subscribe, listen, and comment. Our goal is to get this show into the top ten in the next month. The more likes and comments we getwill support the success of the show. Thank you so much to all our supporters. We love you!
Redemption - the ability to come back from the brink and then to live out your purpose. This typifies the existence of Dr. Jack Monell, criminal justice reform activist, and professor. Dr. Monell's story is quite compelling. He was incarcerated at a young age only to have some good men see his light and provide him with his north star. You know these were men of Omega. As I mention in the show, contrary to popular belief, We are legendary in every way. Dr. Monell proves that no matter your life circumstance you can find a different path, you can find redemption. This is evident as he and his team worked fervently to secure the release of Ronnie Long, a man wrongfully convicted of a crime and who spent 44 years in prison. Can you believe that revolutionaries, 44 years? This is a must listen with Dr. Jack.
My sis, Carol's Daughter alum, and Director of Strategic Partnerships at Camelback Ventures, Kelli Saluny joins me to discuss her revolution. To be clear the first half this conversation is a masterclass in entrepreneurship and leadership as she chronicles her time at one of the most prolific Black women led startups in history. The second half is just as weighty as Kelli details her Generational Inheritance Initiative and the #NextinLineMovement she is dropping on February 9th. (camelbackventures.org/inheritance). The simple question she poses is what are you passing down to the next generation to ensure that there are successful and they can continue to dismantle the barriers placed in front of them. I know I am passing down this revolution, Black men are dope and their stories of influence should be passed down. Please make sure you join Kelli and Camelback Ventures in this movement. To Learn more, please go to camelbackventures.org/inheritance
Elijah Moses, affectionately known as Moses, CEO of Wise Young Builders and 2019 Camelback Fellow joins me on the show for a riveting conversation about how to get out of the rat and race. His revolution is to revolt and evolve. Revolt from the status quo, craft a life that you want to have, and evolve into the person that will allow to live your life to fullest. The consummate wanderlust, Moses chronicles his love of travel and his aspirations to commune in various locals around the world, something we all should aspire to. Moses is captivating in his conjecture and provides a road map for all of us to create the best version of ourselves. He is a true revolutionary.

We look forward to celebrating out 4 year anniversary with my first guest, Oliver Thomas in an upcoming episode!
Did you know that only 2% of the world self-actualizes according to Maslow? For some reason, most of us get stuck at one of the lower rungs of the hierarchy of needs, most likely at love and belonging or self-esteem. Those who do self-actualize are some of the most prolific people in the world. What if you could be one of those persons, one of those people of getting to the top of the mountain. Leadership coach, Rashib Thomas joins me on the show to discuss his headliner book, 'Bout That Life", which is a guide to finding your purpose and self-actualizing. Like most of my guests on the show, Rashib drops nugget after nugget on how to get out of your way, detailing how to show up fully for yourself and the people around you. What are the ‘choice points, beliefs, and ways of being’ to manifest change!

In today's world, family and community mean everything. It is one of those aspects that can propel us to greatness and stardom. That is the case with this group of stellar men. I grew up with Max, Jason, and Jarvis. They are my play "cousins", but they are more like family than I know. Who knew that we would grow up to make moves on so many levels. Jason and Jarvis are both very accomplished actors and the "Brain", Max continues to set the bar in tech.
This conversation is a mix of intellect and family sitting at the table jonning about the mischief we got into as children. It is fun, enlightening, and a wonderful reward to understand how each of their revolutions is shifting the landscapes for generations to come. Shout out to Aunt Shirley - who has been the force of nature for all us. Without Bertha/Charles/Shirley who knows where this foursome might have ended up.

100 shows seems to be a sign of longevity. Well if that is the case, then by those standards, we are doing alright. I have been trying to decide who I would interview for the special episode. I realized it had to be my friend, Phil Echols, soon to be Dr. Phil Echols. Phil is the creator the "Become Better" movement. You can check him out at Phil Echols on Twitter, IG, Facebook, and Linkedin. Phil's short clips inspire everyone young and old to find ways to be better every day, especially those in leadership. The affable one in every space, Phil has become my rock, my confidant, and one of my closest friends as we continue this journey to revolutionize the world. What is relevant about this show is that Phil and I spend most of the show talking about Peak Moments in our journey. That is the key revolutionaries. How do you create and relish in the Peak Moments of your life? Comical at times, endearing and vulnerable at others, this show is a reminder to enjoy the communities that you build and cultivate friendships that make your life and help you enjoy the peak moments of your life.
Brookings Fellow, Dr. Andre Perry, joins me on the podcast to discuss his new book, "Know Your Price". The book is a wonderful autobiography of Dr. Dre wrapped in a narrative around how America's housing policies have handcuffed a majority of people of color from maximizing their wealth. Think about this, 156 billion dollars of lost revenue because of redlining. Let that sink in for second. Dr. Dre also opens up about his struggles as young man and how he took those knocks and turned them into an unshakeable resolve to be better. He doesn't attack people anymore, he attacks ideas. That alone is a revolution! If anyone knows Dre, when he walks into a room his confidence is palpable yet infectious. We end our conversation talking about how to make the most of a crisis. Dre is a master of this. His first book made him a King in the New Orleans Education Space. His latest literature expedition has him well on his way to this same status in a much bigger pond. Make sure you go out and get it, Know Your Price!
I have spent the last three years working on being a better man, especially how I show up in my relationships with women. I am still a work in progress but hopefully I have made significant strides. Hip Hop Pastor and childhood comrade, Osaze Murray joins me in a riveting conversation about his life's journey and how faith has uplifted him and allowed him to bring his message to the masses. Make sure you check out his youtube videos.
One key quote that resonates, "I want to spend more hours of integrity than more hours of dishonesty". For most of my life there was an imbalance, where I leaned heavily to the latter. 8/23/2017, I made a vow to change my life. Each day we have a choice, to show integrity or to fail. Pastor Murray gives us the roadmap on how to make this apart of your revolution.
Carefree Blackness and the Politics of Black Men with Westley Bayas by Dr. Charles Corprew

He frequents the national lecture circuit speaking to youth, students, social organizations, and professionals about issues including cultural identity and history, diversity, self-empowerment, community building, economic development, and the uniting power of art. Brother Jeff drops by the show to talk about the state of all things in Black America and how his revolution is empowering people of color to revitalize their own. Jeff begins the show by detailing the solution to being in 3 foot pool with 2 foot man on your back and you're 12 feet tall. I will let you listen to the show to find the answer. I definitely can tell I am back in one of William Cross stages of racial identity, although I can't remember the name. I am fully immersed in my Blackness! Make sure you listen to the end as Brother Jeff drops the tenants of Kwanzaa into how we take back our lives and livelihoods. #FireShow
My good friend and fellow namesake, Charles Divins, joins the podcast. Charles is a former actor (Passions), model (GQ, Cosmopolitan, etc)and now award winning journalist. I met Charles as we ran the streets during our time in New Orleans. (I can't believe I don't live in New Orleans anymore. What an amazing episode with President of Prosperity Wealth Group and former JMU and NFL standout, Delvin Joyce. I met him last year at the famous BMXCL put on by Black Enterprise. This brother works a room, but that is not the full story. What is underneath this humble confidence is a man grounded by the words of his father - never let anyone tell you that you can't do something. This father/son story of success is riveting and captures why we must all formulate answer to the most thought provoking question of your life, "What's Your Revolution?" - One key piece of information Delvin offers is this, "if you are ever in the fight of your life, make sure you're prepared to fight" - Shout out to DJ Seko for the remix of the show. Would love to hear your feedback about the intro and outro. Please leave a comment.
The incomparable Cornell Belcher drops by the show. Yes, you heard me, Cornell Belcher! In a riveting conversation between two old friends, Cornell highlights the collective power we have as a nation to turn back the horrific consequences of this presidency. As he terms it, this presidency is an existential threat to our livelihood and that we me must not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. This conversation will rock you to your core, leaving you questioning are you activist enough, and are you doing enough to protect yourself, your family, and your community.
My friend and esteemed colleague Dr. Christian Bolden joins the show to detail his forthcoming book "Out of the Red". A former gang member in Texas and jailed at 17, talks about how he made it out of mass incarceration to become a prolific researcher and professor. This beautiful conversation weaves together a number of narratives, second chances, school to prison pipeline, gangs, fatherhood, and redemption. As I listen as a fan of the show, Dr. Bolden's story lifts me up and gives me life. One key, find the way to be courageously kind! Make sure that you check out his book that comes out August 14th. It is a must read.
Poet Laureate and author, Jamaal Crowder graces the show with his Maryland breaux and his infectious nature. I met J as your burley offensive lineman at JMU in the early 2000s. Behind the grizzly exterior was a man ready to engulf the world with his literary genius. Since that time he has published 5 books that encapsulate his journey as Black man. The one thing that stands out about this interview is how he details his ability to stand still and the lessons it taught him. In this crazy world, standing still is more an anomaly than the status quo. Get ready to do the deep work with this episode and make sure you go out and check any of his books of poetry. Jamaal is a saint and a juggernaut wrapped in a behemoth of man.
Dr. Anthony Perdue! joins the show to talk about "Leading with Purpose" - The key statement Ant illuminates is that the fruits of your work should not be seen just in the moment but should be felt for generations to come. Anthony's story is one of resilience and it shows us when we find our purpose life will open up for your. If you are trying to find your way, give your talent to someone else. Shout out to my childhood friend Gerta Gall Bledsoe for being my north star!

Coupled with the everyday stressors we face, the current landscape can exacerbate mental health maladies. Don Francis, New Orleans based award winning trauma clinician joins me to talk about anxiety and depression and how we cope with these trying times. He offers hope and concrete strategies to work through this together. One tip: find ways to maintain your community. They will keep you lifted!
One of the most powerful and insightful conversations I have had as a host. Dr. Maurice Sholas, Harvard trained, MD(Ph.D.), CEO of Sholas consulting group, and practicing physician joins me to talk about his journey to medical "stardom", how we all need to build our empathy "muscles", and what we need to do to move through the current times we are living as collective group of humans. This is a riveting and thought-provoking conversation that will leave you inspired and will hopefully have you thinking about how you can fulfill your revolution.
Special Episode- With all of the negative news and information presented each day about Covid-19, I wanted to produce an episode that discusses how we can protect ourselves. One of the greatest defenders of the virus is exercise and our intake of certain foods (e.g pomegrante, pineapple). My guest, Mwangi Eric Kwesi joins me to talk about his new book and what steps we can take to help fight the Pandemic both on a persona and global level. This is truly a must listen.
My guest and fellow JMU Duke, Dr. Melvin J Brown, superintendent of Reynoldsville, Ohio, joins the WYR show to start the new season. Melvin's journey to one of the highest positions in education is quite remarkable and somewhat unparalleled. Handpicked by his Superintendent to lead an elementary school without any prior educational leadership, Melvin skyrocketed to stardom. His journey is one steeped in the belief that no matter what you are faced with a strong belief in yourself will carry you through anything. In a place where the landscape has changed dramatically and the clientele looks drastically different than they did 50 years ago, Melvin is ensuring that every child gets what they need every day. That's his revolution.
This riveting episode finds me talking to one of the young revolutionaries in the world, Victor Jones, Senior Supervising Attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center in New Orleans. What surprises me from the start is his answer to the "question". He says his revolution is to be more selfish. WTF! Listen closely though, his elaboration of the answer will make you consider doing just that. This episode is also a must listen for all the people who don't have relationships with their fathers. Vic tells a compelling story of why he pours so much life into his little girls. Listening to the episode will make you realize why he is one of my favorite people in the world.

One of the most influential figures in my life joins me on the #WYR show to talk about fatherhood and the responsibility we have as men to pass on knowledge and wealth to our children. If you are looking to understand how to build wealth and create lasting financial leverage for your family. This is the show for you.
Don Francis, the acclaimed Trauma Clinician, gives the best answer ever on this episode of the WYR show. Hint: His revolution is fueled by the force of his 3000 ancestors. In this riveting conversation, Don and I talk about what our young boys need to heal from their experiences. One tip, positive visualization. Our boys should image a life that is they can strive for. We also talk about why it is important to provide therapy not only to our young men, but also those that water them, their families. We conclude our conversation by detailing how he takes care of himself and how his wife allows him to fulfill his revolution. The most poignant comment of the show other than his detailing of his revolution was that the support his wife gives him allows him to bring the full brigade to his revolution. We all need that type of love.

At the end of lives, I think we all want to something synonymous with our name. Prince, Micheal (X2), Barack, Martin, Malcolm all have legacies that will stand the test of time. Each of them in their own way shaped the fabric of country. Will Snowden shaped how people in Louisiana will be judge by the their peers. At the time, LA was one of the only states where an unanimous jury wasn't the standard to convict. Will singlehandedly changed that! This conversation talks about his life's work and why revolutions are not just singular acts.
Phillip Roundtree joins the show to discuss the impact of the #YouGoodMan hashtag, his line of clothing that highlights "This is what mental illness looks like", and the importance of men of color together in space to discuss what ails them so that they can find and embrace the healthiest version of themselves. Also, make sure you check out his #YouGoodMan Podcast on Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts.
One of my favorite people in the world dropped by the show to provide the pearls of wisdom we all need to ensure we can answer the most thought-provoking question of our lives. This is a fire show with New Orleans Activist Happy Johnson. There aren't enough words to describe this brotha, but I will try. Author and Activist are probably the two best. In this 45 min show, Happy discusses his Journey to NOla and the reasons why he fights so hard for its survival. This millennial is at work.
As we culminate the end of Movember, Khalilah Collins and Ayo Scott of Making Connections Nola come through the studio to talk about how men work through and bring awareness to critical topics such as prostate and testicular cancer and mental health and well-being and suicide prevention. On the B side, the guests discuss hot topics in masculinity, particularly the Dwight Howard and Ruben Foster's sagas.
PK Kersey, CEO of That Suits You, and best selling author, "Suited for Success" drops the show to talk about why a suit can change the trajectory of a man's life, particularly if they are reentering the world after incarceration. PK's story is amazing, and his revolution is even more remarkable. The last 7 min are the best part as he drops his 5 S's for success. You don't want to miss that. Enjoy.
Two of my great friends from New Orleans drop by the show to discuss their revolutions and that state of politics at the local, state, and national level. With the impending mid-term elections (they already happened), the discussions were informative and necessary. As well, both of their journeys to find and embrace the healthiest version of themselves is remarkable. Hint: Ethan started undergrad at Howard 16, graduated Law School at 22, and became a school board member at 28. Royce is one of the youngest elected officials in the State of Louisiana.
In one of my favorites episodes, Brandon Anderson, founder of Raheem AI, drops by the show to discuss his powerful story of loss and redemption. Brandon's partner was killed by police, a heartbreaking end to a beautiful love affair. However, Brandon has been able to use this fuel his revolution. Raheem AI is a crowdsourcing tool that helps community members chronicle their interactions with police. As Natalie Burke says, Big Data will show us the way. Brandon hopes his platform can shift policy initiatives that can ensure police and communities can work together to thrive. This show is riveting. A must listen. At one point, I had my hand over my heart because I could feel the brotha's story.
I have been waiting for this episode. New Orleans native Dennis Bagneris stops by the show to share his journey of pain and triumph. For some men of color, the story ends at the latter. Dennis details struggles and the support he needed to make it to his mountaintop. On the B side, Antwon Brinson joins us for a lively discussion on how he is shifting the narrative in Charlottesville post-August 12, 2017. One key takeaway, just because you have one skill doesn't mean you can run the house. Dimensionality is key.
For men of color, the job market can be arduous to navigate regardless of how many letters are behind your name. So, how to find, apply, interview, and receive the job of your dreams. On the B side, my girl Nia Weeks steps into the booth with me to discuss her revolution, Citizen She United, an empowerment movement that works to get more women into positions of power. Joining Jake and myself on the show were some of the great men has mentored over the course of his career, Vaugh Kelly and Amir Sharif- both US Naval Academy Graduates and highly successful men as well as his good friend Jumanne King. He chronicles his relationship with his mother, the good, bad, and the ugly, but through it all he describes that there is no greater love than that of a mother.

Dr. Stevenson has devoted his career as an educator to helping boys and men of color find the resilient and successful pathways. His current work focuses on racial literacy, a tactic we can all use to diffuse the stress of our current racial and political climate. The conversation was riveting.
Wouldn't you want a decision about your fate to be unanimous? Well, in Louisiana that is not the case. If 2 people disagree and 10 others say yes, you are going to do time. Too many of us are sitting behind bars and failing to find and embrace the healthiest version of ourselves because of policies that hamper our existence.

Why? Because it takes embracing discomfort, hypothesizing a revolution, and finding ways to build relationships that will improve opportunities for access to capital. It's a great show.
Only 4% of companies of color have employees. Less than 1% of small businesses are led by men of color. 70% of all small businesses fail within the first 3 years. We can't grow unless we see that which we have not seen. In this episode I chat with Travel Bloggers Kim and Val from 2GirlsWhoTravel.com and my travel buddy Dr. Derek Greenfield. Kim and Val chronicle the importance of traveling abroad but also find places in you hometown that take your out of your comfort zone. Derek and I joke each other while chronicling our journeys over the last year to Europe, Montreal, the Grand Canyon, and Sedona. After those trips we fear nothing and have a deep appreciate for each other's lived experiences.
In this episode I discuss the power of sitting in discomfort. There is so much literature that talks about there is no growth without struggle. I detail my experiences with struggle and give some tips on how to sit with discomfort to find the healthiest version of yourself.
