Hi, I’m Mike James and I love interacting with people. I am fascinated by sharing stories of successful online creators who have built their brand from nothing, I find creators who are honest about their struggles, strategies, and shortcomings to be inspiring. I invite you to join me as I share the ideas, techniques, and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and success. I will attempt to discover and share the “secrets” to modern-day content creation success without any data collection, surveys or ‘how to’ videos. All of this in hopes of helping us both learn to succeed as a creator!
Ever heard of a stream coach? I was one, for a year, I also streamed full-time for 3 years. I met some amazing people and became obsessed with the idea of building an exciting new business in a space that could have seen some amazing things happen! However, I quickly became attracted to the idea of working towards creating a better experience but with that came the price of Twitter, a platform I grew to hate, more so in the streaming circles.
I've broken the episode down so that I can discuss this chapter of my life and keep it structured! I'll begin with what got me into streaming and how meeting one pivotal individual changed my life for the better and how it got me onto the path of helping other streamers develop their mindset and work towards a more successful strategy for their own content!
I also wanted to talk about a previous guest and good friend Ashnichrist who was a big inspiration for discovering the world of online business and how she's also helped shape who I have become. Discussing also the attacks she's faced in trying to grow a business from the ground up and a space that has never seen something like it, therefore, it is ridiculed and misunderstood in a world where they're so much free information, how can we apply it in a structured manner? How we get people to interpret their own value as an individual and how they can wrap it up in a fantastic show for their consumers!
My journey as a streamer is over, yet another begins! I'm still on a road of content creation, facing different platforms, pushing myself beyond my comfort zone and simply sharing it all over on YouTube, Podcasts & maybe soon to be Tik-Tok (maaaybe). I want to show the world an average-joe kinda guy can achieve any level of success and live a life worth living!
Welcome back to yet another episode of the content experience podcats. This week I'm bringing you the journey and experience of a widely loved artist and creator, aka, my boss and future sister-in-law Katnipp illustrations (Catherine Kay).
She's always had the vision to work for herself, coming out of university she began a clothing business before moving onto to becoming a social media marketing agent at a friends business. This is when she founded Katnipp.
Now Katnipp wasn't always pins & banners with YouTube content, it began as commission-based portrait business, operating locally at events, selling portraits and her services. In fact, she started out without even having an Instagram account!
When Katnipp started her Instagram journey it was agonizing, hours and hours of going through posts and hashtags to comment and like things and attempt to build genuine connections with those around her, which is surprisingly the only growth tactic that really still works on the platform...
It was then in 2018 a cold December when Catherine began her YouTube channel and in a year has been lucky enough to hit 100k subscribers! To this day she's bringing home over 30k a year for a paycheck and investing thousands more into products and a team to help expand Katnipp into an empire. Which is where I come in... She opted to take me on as a freelancer to help package orders and develop the business. I've been there almost 6 months and it's one hell of a journey!

Well Introducing Stopstop, a streamer on Twitch who began his TikTok journey a few months ago. He has been consistently trying to make people laugh and posting weekly. He's had hundreds of thousands likes and views across his tik tok videos and we couldn't be happier! But he goes in depth to discuss if its helpful to use for growing your other channels such as Twitch or YouTube.
The answer seems more difficult than it does simple. There's a lot of bits to consider when talking about how helpful it is such as your value you provide, seems tik tok has a main audience for comedy and how confident you are at portraying things on camera.

Firstly, Ashleigh my Fiancée lost both her job and a family member towards the end of 2019 and I wanted to make sure she was ok, she's not been in the best frame of mind since and I always prioritize her in my life. After all she is becoming my wife in 2021... She now has a new job and is on the mend.
I also wanted to just share my views and ideas on what you guys should be doing in 2020 to make sure you're maxamising income from streaming and/or content creation.

It's been a short heckin' time since we've uploaded an episode. In today's episode, we're looking at someone who goes against the social 'norms' and has become a successful streamer by streaming everyday for over 2 years! Focusing on the Final Fantasy game series, Sofie, our guest, has built a following which expects her to be live every day. She even told us of a story in which she streamed the same day she has surgery! (and I thought me canceling due to a headache was bad?!).
Streaming every day is a sure way to burn out for most, it is not a tactic I recommend for most, however, if you're a streamer of habit and like routine in your life it could be something worth trying.

Hitting 1 million views is a worthy celebration no matter what platform you're on. However, in this episode, we sit down with Mark who created The Emergence a website built for streamers hosting a range of guides.

welcome back to another episode. We're sitting down with MaidMama a Australian streamer who is in the same Twitch stream team as myself and many other great streamers. Like me, she focuses on channel branding, reviews along-side playing some great games.
Setting up your channel is hard, there's no guides & there's technically no right or wrong way to do it. However, there are certain bits of information and panels that you could have missed which could be holding you back! Some of the main panels include 'About Me' 'Schedule' & 'Donation'. Some wouldn't deem these to be 'difficult' however, you'd be surprised at how many people have generic panels that all sound the same.
MaidMama suggests taking a look at your panels and attempting to add some unique characteristics to them to make them more personable. It could help take the panels to that next level! Try avoid Twitch panel makers, we agree that not everyone has a budget for a designer, however if you can just make something simple yourself in the Photoshop tiral, is all you'd need to begin having a unique look to your brand.
Ultimately, you want to stand out in your content, even down to the panels. It's all about brand brand brand!

Shiabun is a fantastic entertainer & streamer. However, what makes him truly unique in this episode is his attitude towards working full-time & streaming full-time.
When pressed, he claimed that he never wishes to persue streaming as a full-time sole income. I believed this may have taken a toll on his mental health as this amount of work can be difficult to maintain especially for a Twitch partner. Not wasn't the case.
Going back we're looking at how he got into streaming onto how he got partnered, discussing his take on 'Partner pushing' a term used for pushing your community to band together to help the streamer achieve partnership.

Today we're joined by a long time friend of mine, TinkTv, who is a Twitch affiliate streaming full time for just over a year.
Tink describes how full time streaming isn't easy, of course the obvious implies that you need to make sure you're going to be financially stable. However, the secret to building an income as a full-time streamer lies within the content.
You HAVE to make your streams an experience for your viewer. Something that makes them want to return for the unique experience each time. We had a very similar discussion back with streamer 'ImStallion' in episode no. 0004. The trick is creating an experience.
So you may ask "how can I go full time?"
The answer is simple, somewhat....
You need to reflect on your content, going live and streaming a game won't cut it in 2019. You need to step things up in your streams. Enjoy cosplay? then cosplay once a week. Don't mind playing with people? Create an in-house tournament or play with viewers. All of these suggestions require hard work... but it's doable. As these guests can confirm.

In this episode we're featuring partnered streamer Gooperatives (Goop for short). This episode hits close to home while Goop has had a different path, we share a similar origin story. Being we both were skaters who moved into the gaming scene, after years of creating content on YouTube we both switched to Twitch.
This episode focuses again on mental health and how Goop struggled with his, however, without letting it get the better of him, has become incredibly determined to create a platform where people can learn and feel safe in an environment while building an income. Of course Goop hasn't been without his failures and this episode will cover them.

Is Dlive better than Twitch, Mixer or YouTube? Obviously a vague question isn't easy to answer. This episode we are interviewing comedic duo Shannon & Jade whom together makes Shayde. They are Twitch streamers, however, they began streaming on Dlive occasionally to test the platform. This episode is to focus on their own experiences and how they feel the two platforms compare.

Welcome back, Are you visiting Twitch con this year? if so, Doodybeard's journey could be an amazing episode to listen to and take notes! Doody used to play in a band. This taught him lessons about expressing himself and building his brand.
When you attend a con the go-to easy handout is a business card, yet, like streaming, everyone else is already handing them out! This just turns into a competition to make sure you not only give each and every meeting your best personality but also design your cards to 'stand out'
Doody explains how you can simply remove the cards and utilize other hand-outs such as stickers, pins and other freebies that will give the receiver a little bit more.
They'll go home and stick the sticker somewhere and when people question it "oh that's from someone named Doodybeard, just gave me it at a con". Doesn't that sound better than "I got all these business cards, I'll put them in the cupboard for now...".
doody also goes on to tell us about the mistakes hes made growing his stream such as the common 'follow 4 follow' or otherwise known as 'f4f' or 's4s' which relies on two people lurking each others streams and not becoming invested into the content. Since usually the individuals are off playing games, or not actually on their pc at all?!

He received partnership on Twitch prior to the 75 concurrent viewer minimum requirement. Twitch used to be a completely different platform prior to this and in this episode we discuss how this change has affected the platform.

Having a degree in marketing Ceddy is a fantastic individual for exposing his streams to the right audience alongside having built a personality that many have fallen in love with.
Ceddy has an outspoken personality and he uses it to discuss drama and entertain hundreds of individuals daily.
As a streamer it is important to develop a personality, this does not mean you have to be so outspoken, even if your 'personality' means being 'laid back' It's still important to develop it and make it work alongside the value you bring your audience. In this episode we are finding out Ceddy's journey on Twitch and how he ended up where he is today!

The episode discusses her experience as a streamer suffering with chronic pain, which causes a huge loss of energy on tasks which most of us would deem easy. I discuss with her how she builds up her energy to present herself as a high-energy streamer. Other elements include her lack of experience with Twitter and how she's still learning how to utilize the platform in the correct way.
We also heavily discussed becoming a Partner on Twitch and discussed how this offers no solutions to financial stability, as NewOwlHooDis now has gotten a part-time job in order to sustain both her and her partners life-style.

I discovered early on in my own streaming journey that the game Fortnite was too over-saturated, with the top 5% owning most of the viewer base, it's one of the most difficult areas to grow on Twitch. This is where I'd like to introduce Stallion, a Biritish variety streamer who founded an amazing community full of amazing people and in less than one year went full-time and became partnered, averaging almost 100 views.
Stallion talks about 'support communities' and how they are not always the answer to finding quick success as many believe them to be. We discuss heavily the element of utilizing community to hold retention and keep people coming back to your stream on Twitch, Mixer, YouTube or which platform you may stream on.
