The frequently invisible nature of illness and pain may lead to disbelief about that illness or pain by those surrounding the person who lives daily with invisible disabilities. This disbelief can lead to misunderstandings, rejection by friends, family and heath care providers. It may also lead to accusations of laziness or faking an illness. We are passionate about providing awareness that invisible illness, pain and disabilities are very real! I have two year-old twins named Maxwell & Riley.  Like any parent, they are my world.  About a year ago, Maxwell, was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called SLC6A1.  The disease is too rare to even have a formal name and is known only by the genetic location.  We were told nothing could be done and I chose not to accept that answer.  I called 200 scientists over the course of a month and found the disease can be cured via gene replacement therapy.  A world renowned scientist and I are working away to create this live saving therapy and we are hoping to advance a clinical trial next year that will cure every child with this disease.  I have raised $1,000,000 in 10 months to advance this therapy.

Historic Denver preserving history while making way for the Future

The state of Colorado has a rich history of western exploration and social innovation. There are just under 300 sites listed as historical properties. Denver specifically has always been both a hub for modernization and the last staple of the wild west. How is the balance maintained? Who is leading the way? How to they maneuver the challenges? It is a mixture of government entities, private citizens, and nonprofit organization. One such nonprofit agency is Historic Denver. This week we sit down with Historic Denver executive director, Annie Levinsky.
