Well, here you are folks; another edition of the BtB Podcast. In this episode, which ran 44:18 minutes, Dave and Matt ranted about Jose Reyes, mid-season trades, and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Dave, who occasionally covers the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A), also discussed some of their best prospects and a few problems surrounding them.
Exciting, huh? Well, if that sounds fun, you're likely in for an even bigger treat. Jesse Litsch, yes, Jesse Litsch joined Dave and Matt for an interview and discussed his upcoming start (the interview was recorded Monday while his upcoming start was the next day), his season high points, and expectations for the rest of the year. It's a short but rather hearty interview. And hey, any time you get Jesse Litsch on a Podcast, you're likely doing something the right way, amirite?
Lastly, Dave and Matt talked to one of baseball's most prestigous sabermetricians. You may know him as "Pizza Cutter" from his Stat Speak days, but his real name is Russel Carleton. Russel discussed a famous, and arguably one of the most valuable and well-produced saber articles in recent memory that talks about how to judge a player in a season. In addition, he discussed how he got started, his love for sabermetrics, as well as some other general baseball topics.
Dave Rutt, a good friend of the Podcast, created a fantastic tune and theme song for the Podcast. However, we weren't able to play it due to technical difficulties. Still, we're going to get Dave to help us out with that and you'll hear how awesome it is the next time you listen to the Podcast. We trashed Bear Neccessities (and the song is sitting under Darowski and St. John's name in the retired section) in order to use "You don't know what love is, you just do what you're told," by the White Stripes. The Podcast has returned. This time, with a much more energetic Dave Gershman and Matt Klaassen. We didn't have any guests this week, mostly because we were both just getting back to the swing of podcasts, but we can assure you they will continue to be produced on an weekly basis.
This week's topics include the Marlins management situation, Albert Pujols, Alcides Escobar and the Kansas City Royals, J.J. Hardy and the Orioles, and lastly, Sigmund Freud.
So yeah, we had a smashing time recording the 'cast this week. Moreso than other weeks, for sure, as the two of us were energized thanks to our G2 energy drinks. In all seriousness, Jose Reyes and the trade situation were discussed as well as Milton Bradley's legacy and where he might be playing from here on out.
To go along with that, we discussed Baseball Tonight, ESPN's statistic database, and the life and career of our first guest WITH our first guest, Mark Simon. We also discussed the Royals past and present, along with prospects and the next five months of the Kansas City Royals with Baseball Prospectus founder Rany Jazayerli.
This week Matt and Dave were happily joined by two of baseball's most prominent figures. Alejandro (can not say his last name due to his preference), the Houston Astros Beat Writer en espanol not only writes for a living but lately he's devoted almost all of his time and work to improve the state of the Mexican Baseball League. In it's worst conditions in years, Alejandro, who has tons of authority and respect in his native city, discusses the Astros, his work and goals that go in to improving the ugly state of the Mexican League whether it be on the field or off, as well as his fantastic television and broadcasting work.
Alejandro wasn't our only fantastic guest. Craig Calcaterra formerly of Shyster Ball fame and now the Blogger-in-chief of NBC's Hardball Talk took the time to talk Braves, his career, DUI's, and other awesome baseball topics with Dave and Matt.
This week Matt was unable to join us but thankfully Peter Hjort was willing and kind enough to do the Podcast with me. We discusses some teams current states and minor league systems as well as the past week's storylines. Oh, and we were joined by Baseball America's Ben Badler. Enjoy!
