Let's start by not spreading misinformation in our podcasts. Since we're recording, there's no reason NOT to stop, look up the facts, and start recording again. And if you DO spread misinformation, own up to it.

Watch the documentary Behind the Curve. It's about flat earthers. and it doesn't mock them. This is an important object lesson for us podcasters on how to respect people who believe something we think is insane. Because all of us have our own flat earth we believe in! It could be that we think wearing our lucky socks will cause our favorite sports team to win, that antibiotics will work on a virus, or Walt Disney cryogenically froze himself.
There are simple things you could be doing to help you make better podcasts. The problem is, they're hard.
I don't often do gear reviews, but this is one piece of gear that I can't recommend highly enough. 4 mic channels, a bluetooth channel, a phone channel, hot keys, built in effects and processing, an SD card for computerless recording... it's seriously the best piece of podcasting gear to come out in over a decade.
What are you willing to give up to make your podcast happen? Money? Time? TV shows you like? Sleep? Family activities? Friends? Yeah, podcasts don't just happen, other stuff has to go away. What will you give up?
You've probably heard the unending chorus shouting that more people are listening to podcasts than ever. This is true. The side effect is that fewer people are listening to music. This WILL affect podcasts in strange ways, which I talk about in today's episode!

I'm not telling you not to tell stories about your family on your podcast. I'm just strongly recommending you don't and providing a list of reasons why.

Don't go overboard. Don't research forever. Don't get decision paralysis. Just get what you need and get started! Today I give three levels of podcast gear: low cost, mid grade, high cost.
Don't blindside guests, don't keep them waiting, don't lie to them... it's pretty simple advice. Just listen!

I wanted to set the Wayback Machine to 2014 to take you to the first podcast I'd ever done! Except that one has a copyright strike against it despite getting permission from the artist himself to use the music. So I'm taking you to the second podcast I've ever done!
I interviewed blues artist Wayne Sharp for the Blues Society of Northwest Florida in this particular episode. Ya see, I used to be their MC and offered to do this podcast as part of my duties. It was a lot of fun and well worth it for those that dug the blues in Pensacola. But duties grew and grew at the radio station and eventually I dropped off from doing it, but I wanted to give you this rare listen into my early days podcasting. Enjoy!

Your favorite artist has "sold out"? Let's unpack why that makes us angry and why we shouldn't be.
Everyone who has a baby has gotten frustrated with their baby. And a lot of us have even had the feeling that we dislike or even hate our baby. It's a common thought and it doesn't mean the person who has that thought actually hates their baby or would ever harm them. But it is tough to think you're the only one who has those thoughts or that they're shameful. On the contrary, it's only once those feelings are faced that you can really deal with them and show your child how to handle anger, depression, and hate.
Yeah, this episode gets deep.
So I went to Napa Valley with my wife, daughter, and my parents. On the second day I got food poisoning. I think I threw up so much I was puking food other people had eaten. I cried. I moaned in pain while lying on the floor. And I still managed to record a few minutes of material and upload it for you. You're welcome.
Pop quiz, hot shot, you're on the road or just lazy and you have to do your podcast with nothing more than your cell phone. What do you do?

This week's episode was recorded entirely on my phone. I even used my phone to post it. Yes, it's possible.

The more you tell people that you're going to start a podcast the less likely you'll actually do it. I go into the principles behind this in the podcast, of course. Here is the advice I go over:

Not EVERY podcast can be serious. This is a fun one because I hang out with my buddy Jeremy over at Movies Are Terrible and People Are Terrible. We talk about why people like podcasts, why it's just fine that anyone can do it, and why lots of ads you hear are terrible. That last one doesn't have anything to do with podcasting, but it's more of a general observation since we both write ads for a living.
