Daniel says 'the solution is as simple as the sun. How can you see the sun when your vision is clouded by fear, by doubt? and even though we know these clouds pass, we trudge and move through the haze, alternating somewhere between surrender and self-sabotage, until we catch a little glimmer of the sun. We are no different to this Sun, we rise we set even when it's clouded, we should trust this, it's been there the whole time.'
Artist Daniel of 'This is Color me Crazy' is an extremely talented creator and a very funny spiritual guy who takes his precious life and being aligned so seriously, he left his life in New York to back to his homeland Porta Rico and now runs daily mediation meetups and he has the most amazing in retreat in Costa Rica coming up in March 2023!
Daniel’s Takeaways
Feeling abundant is not about being super rich
If you fail at something, try something else
Well come here wanting something, when the light is outs it’s probably because you don’t have that purpose
The truest conversation you will always have with yourself is the delta brain waves are – the subconscious rewire programming that happens when we are in between a dream and an awake mindset
Sitting and enjoying the quiet is a calm powerful feeling you’ve set first for yourself

Sandra Gale left her really cool ‘safe’ job as a stationery designer in Brisbane Australia to fully back herself with her stunning brand.
Sandra created vibrant whimsy females to ‘celebrate the amazing, perfectly imperfect women we know and love
Sandra’s art & gifts have taken off, in just 12 months, her prints, T-shirts and candles are sold in many stores across Australia!
Sandra shows up at many markets plus she’s created a life with the perfect mix of running art workshops and lecturing at a university too.
Oh, and did I mention she started all of this in lockdown?
Sandra’s Takeaways
Mature students and graduates offer great value to a studio, they have lots of skills and established life practices.
There’s no straight path, just follow the breadcrumbs
If you have a dream that scares you, set a date, tell others don’t wait to be ready, you won’t ever feel sorted.
Your business is yours but, it will impact the whole family, deadlines, and trade shows, so make sure you’re intentional with sharing the downtime
Doesn’t matter what creative path you’re on, we all have the same imposter syndrome, and insecurities we were shamed at a young age for being sensitive and those ideas that an artist is a loner or
14 . If you can’t get a coach, make sure you have a mentor in some way, you will find if you send the right questions many will love to give advice for free to help in some way. Passion is infectious – All humans from all communities and tribes go to an elder or master, and we are no different.

Steph Thannhauser has been a freelance designer for over 25 years. She’s known for creating designs for many different products, illustrating kids’ books, creating art for magazines and creating patterns for sewing fabrics.
She loves her job and feels so lucky to be doing what she loves but four years ago she was getting sick of her own company.
Yes, she loved designing but was fed up of sitting by herself every day so started to think of what she could do to change things up. She didn’t want to stop working on creative projects with clients but she wanted her working life to have a more sociable component.
Steph says ‘Have you heard the expression “ask the universe for what you want and make your wishes come true”?
Well, she did ask and she started to get messages requesting beginners’ sewing classes so she thought that’s what she’ll do. It’s sociable plus there is the added bonus that she can use her own fabric designs in class and share those and she got paid for her skill and experience too.
She’s now taught 65 people to sew in face-to-face classes but wants to reach more people so is taking her classes online.
If you want to start your sewing journey with Steph you can join her free Beginners Sewing Sew and Grow with Steph Bootcamp which is running on the 28th and 29th September.

The extremely talented Jacqueline Wild is absolute proof that we can manifest a life with what we are really after … freedom
time to play, surf, wild sea swimming, explore kelp forest cycle and sleep under the stars in Cornwall where she left her capital city life in London to sleeping under the stars in Cornwall.
Jacqueline and her childhood sweetheart Dal followed the whispers and spent their 20’s and 30’s travelling the country in their campervan working the festivals.
Both have created a life that is full of freedom and joy and working with the Laws of the Universe around their toddler in their life in Cornwall
Dal has a cacao business ‘Food of the Gods’
you can find him at Sennen Cove market and many Cornish farmer markets.
Jacqueline’s degree is in English, labelled the writer out of the two sisters growing up and not the artist.
This trust and working with the universe meant that she knew she could try her hand at illustration and boy has it worked!
She now has two tiers to her business, selling her prints as products physically at markets and Etsy and designing for an agent.

Not only is Gee Scales writing his 3rd book planned to be printed this September, Gee is proof that following the whispers, and surrendering is the absolute only path to the creative life within you.
Gee has always loved wood and creating and designing 3d materials but he didn't know how or where to best carve out life using his talents. Growing up in inner-city Nottingham, Gee became a father at 19 which meant their many memories of himself and his then-wife, despite feeling like kids themselves, pushing through regardless.
Of course, they both have fantastic careers, and Gee tells us their children are out studying them by far! But as it often is on this creative oath, that’s just one thread but that’s just one thread...
Gee got made redundant 3 times – finally, he took the nudge from the universe that he’s got so much more to offer the world!
At 36 Gee studied to be a Teacher!
12 years on, Gees now carved a life which consists of designing 3D prints at home, extreme sports 'Avid gamer, movie and TV buff and self-professed geek. I'm a lover of all things technology-related and he refuses to grow up. Fast Forward is his second novel. Yes, you read that correctly.
Gee is constantly following his passions, tweaking, and learning along the way. I can’t wait for you to hear his story!

Every piece is artwork made from a collection of curated gemstones/crystals; carefully sourced, arranged, photographed and post treated, bringing you completely vivid designs and unique GEMetic Code patterns you won’t find anywhere else.
Like a snowflake or fingerprint, all stones have identifying markers which make them unique.
These inclusions and blemishes are the original gemstone signatures which intrigue me the most. It is their GEMetic code! The images they created not only showed their inclusions but their genetic/lab make-up and raw patterning.

Have you been convinced that the Law of Attraction works for everyone but YOU?
You know what you SHOULD be doing, but feel like you're lying or worse still you feel shame because you're not thinking happy thoughts ALL OF THE TIME?
There's an extremely toxic materialistic trend around manifestation at the minute.
It can get frustrating when we can’t manifest what we want, we try vision boards, visualisation technics, journaling and much more but don’t realise that we can be actively blocking and worse - harming the attraction of our desires.
So of course I thought its time to explain to you the real reason why...
There is much more than ONE law of the universe.
These 12 laws are based on quantum.
When it comes to manifesting through the law of attraction people are unsuccessful because they completely abandon the 11 other universal laws!
Check out my 4-week live interactive programme
'Sell with heart and Soul'
Module one is a complete immersive deep dive into the 12 universal laws.

Micheal Clements has followed that feeling down the winding road as an artist, he’s been a magazine editor in Washington DC, an actor which lead him to work on films with Jackie Chan in Hong Kong, all the while trusting the hear and now and not questioning the outcome.
Micheal is not only the owner and founder of ArtJamz but he is also an outsider artist who has exhibited in a number of solo and group exhibitions in Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Washington DC
We go deep in this conversation about artist sensitive intuition and nurturing this superpower. its ok to have lots of different creative paths you've tried, it will fall into play later in life when you work out what you want to try with ease, not with struggle.
Micheal Clements Takeaways
What did you make as a kid
What did you instinctively do? Make films? Fashion books – that’s what you’re inner creative child Is
The layers are hiding your true path
You won’t always see where it’s going straight away -
The business ideas percolate over years – can be 10 years later,
The answer, who you are is within you, only you can rediscover it
That amazing feeling that lights you up – is so rare in our lives, we have to follow that thing! That’s the thing – now watch the serendipity that follows
The power of serendipity is when you follow the ha-ha moments and watch the dots connect.
We are so big on the outcome and not the feelings – the flow
Art and intuition was around before words
Keep on creating - We need more art in the world

Ilana Lorraine used to work for Sony Records, she curated successful tribute events for Michael Jackson on the MTV EMA’s, for Amy Winehouse and Prince; Kimbereley Kris wrote
'She's brought together seasoned and fresh musicians from around the world at Sessions58 and Tea n’ Jam, including performances by Eartha Kitt, Beverley Knight, Jessie J, Roachford and Nneka.
She’s been a Guardian of Bespoke, Historic Homes; a Promoter of Iconic, Global Music Careers; a Curator of the Fairytale in Hampstead Heath during Lockdown Times, and now she is back to make yet another dream a reality.
Ilana’s music is hauntingly beautiful. It stirs the soul, the mind, and plucks ever so gently at the heartstrings. Her transformative lyrics and soulful voice awaken the senses, provide hope and evoke courage.
Harmon Audio and the British Arts Council have recognised her as an authentic guiding light as her work, her support, her guidance - has touched so many over the years. Ilana is more than a producer, a promoter, a songwriter, a vocalist and an artist. She's a curator of dreams, a magical creator of communities an architect of making anything possible!'
This Is a true story about a public outdoor space became a wonderland, overlooking the lake in HampsteadHeath, for each passerby to find the freedom to escape the fear, isolation, loneliness and disconnect that occurred during lockdown.
Strangers and locals alike stumbled upon lit trees, crystals and angelic music where each note Ilana Lorraine sang hit the water creating a truly harmonic enchanting space both Ilana and then new friend Freya created for passersby to feel at home and sit together to play - connect and heal through music, circus skills, yoga and breath and more.
This chapter of how art lifts humans through a pandemic features as a full chapter in Hunter Davis lasted book (Author/biographer of The Beatles Official Biography) … so of course, the story now lives on Happily ever after.
It’s a true story about two girls who met passersby whilst doing what they love with Ilana's music and performance, Fraya's circus skills and therapies and many other creatives later joined offering Yoga, meditations Tom with his telescope and tales of adventures and many became the tribe of light, all to celebrate life in lockdown….The chapters called ‘Hippies on the Heath’

This week is a very special one. its our 100th episode! And guess who got to chat too? Sophie Miller!
Sophie is an extremely talented textile artist who has fully stepped back into her practice. You will understand why when I tell you she is a wife and a huge part of Andy J Pizza's creative Pep Talk goodness and of course an amazing mum to their 3 children.
So, of course, I got to ask what inspires Sophie and how important Yorkshire was growing up, what it's like in their home; having two talented successful creatives as parents.
Sophie is so giving and shares her venerable experience this year as she stepped into a studio with other artists for the first time and produced her first exhibition since university.
Sophie has given the last 10 years to their children, while running a successful Etsy shop ‘The Thread House’ making costumes. But of course, being the rock behind Andy's practice too.
Sophie shares how she kept her creative practice going throughout the different seasons in her life since becoming a mum straight after leaving university In Huddersfield in the U.K to moving over to Andy's home town in America.
Sophie Takeaways
2.French Notts are an example of a creative practice that can hypnotise, slow time and the gifts that Can be seen framed and treasured – the validation – your creativity can be the gift that binds relationships.
Express yourself and get lost in the process
Honour where you are in your life and art –the seasons change, so our practice will too.
5.We can’t create when we are stressed, our art changes through the chapters we are at. Sometimes we need a clear start, middle and end like gardening, other times we can invest in a longer more detailed project
Try the 5 am club -getting up at that time means you’re starting the day putting yourself first instead of waiting until the end to see if you’re not too tired.
The garden and outside have the perfect and unperfect in all of its tapestry, how the seeds and greenery turn out.
Where feels magical to you? Where do you get that playful feeling? The element of surprise Is the woods? Where do you escape from wandering?
What’s your go-to landscape for your senses? Is it a secret garden in the woods? Or an open mountain or ocean cape?
Covid has taught us to notice when we need the quiet – to go under the bridge?
Art college is more than finding and learning your art – you find your people at a time when you’re finding yourself
It’s a huge relief to be in a safe environment where you can express yourself – you are the art, your style
Us creatives are sensitive beings, this is why we feel it all, the invisible parts as Andy illustrates, after a life of shame and embarrassment, trying to fit in, we can now honour it and own it as our superpower.
Meet your kids where they’re at. Let them see your messy middle phase in your art.
An exhibition or an in-person event gives you that extra urge to finish your art, so the viewer can get close and see touch and taste it almost
Creative community is vital for an artist.
Letting your children see you the week of a big launch or deadline is good for them

Charlie India is a lawyer turned artist based in London. She documents her life as a creative building her art practice online. Charlie now works part time whist following her vunerable creative path openly to give others permmsion to a more forfilled and aligned lifestyle.
Charlie started posting about her creative journey - opening up about feeling like an imposter after so many years of denying her creativity. She quickly realised that she was not alone. Creatives from all over the world were messaging her saying 'oh thank goodness, I feel that way too'. And in that connection sparked an idea - what if there was a community where we could inspire people to prioritise their creativity, talk openly about the ups and downs of their creative journeys and support each other in the process?
And so began The Creatives' Coffee Club!
Charlie’s Takeaways
1.Your creative journey sounds abstract but it’s an inner feeling not logical thought process.
2.You may have suppressed your inner artist unknowingly, there might not anyone in your circles and always felt an outsider.
3.Find your inner artist.
4.None of us are masters.
5.You can design a varied life if you’re multi passionate, be true to yourself.
Allow the space to be messy and a learner.
The two brains fight at exactly that moment when we need it most, the lizard brain wants to keep us safe, it’s not evolved yet – hence the panic attacks in a shop when we really know we are safe. It gets us when we are least expecting it.
We could draw before we could write, we danced before we could sing.
The fear of feeling judged and the fear of people in your past and life seeing you on your new more aligned path doesn’t go away, you just get used to it.
If you have a day job – own it, it doesn’t make you less of an artists.

London based mural artists Eloisa Henderson Fills the world with happiness, she brings excitement to many lucky people’s walls! Of course we know how brave she must be to paint huge murals but what I love about her is that she explains in our conversation that’s she feels the fear each time! She explains here how she pushes through and her childhood growing up with her mum who works with children who are maybe vulnerable and neurodiverse, which of course has helped shape Elosia's art to this current day.
What I also love is that this was all born through lock down! To help keep a float last year, Eloisa Henderson ran workshops in her garden. Eloisa spins lots of plates, she paints on film sets too!
Eloisa’s Takeaways
1.Just because you didn’t enjoy the project, the teaching, or whatever the thing is the first time, it doesn’t mean you won’t again, try it a second time and see!
2.Put out what you want more of. It’s that simple
3.Worrying about a project is common, it’s what keeps us at our best, we have to look for ways to keep this healthy and not overtake us.
5.If you don’t get the project you pitched for remember, you’re successful to even be in this position to apply.
7.Some projects can just feel way too big because it is right now, and that’s ok, if you feel it will impact you negatively. Listen to that. Of course, we need to push ourself out of our comfort zone, however, there is a difference, don’t confuse the two.
8.When children play up, we know it’s for attention, use your art to play! This will ease them into a safer, calmer mental space. Art is a super power.
9.You can make people smile through your art that’s the true magic!
10.It is possible to spin lots of plates If you’re interested in a variety of different creative areas, it’s important to do if you know you need the mix
When working on a job its expected for you to work out what you need to do to get that job done, so don’t worry if it’s new to you, just say ‘Yes thankyou let me get on with that’ and research later. Your manager just wats it done, they don’t mind if you’ve done it or not.
You don’t always know more the longer you’re in a studio, don’t worry, just learn on the job. That’s what we all do!
It’s ok to be anxious when you’re putting yourself out there creatively, we can reconise that nasty voice and say internally ‘thank you, I’m doing it anyway! ‘I’m doing the best I can and that will lead to more great art’ This kind of narrative is far more inviting, progressive and helps us move past in the moment than letting all of the nasty mean words paralyse us.
14.Spread your art outside or hang in your windows for passer by’s to enjoy, your art will brighten their day, it’s a gift.
Victoria Tojeiro founder of ‘Happy Stuff Studio’ is a self taught illustrator, designer and now has her own jewellery too
Victoria gave up her teaching career to follow her pull to a creative life that suits her vibrant personality, not only does Victoria create colourful fun characters, she also literally wears her joy too! Victoria gave up her wardrobe of beige, grey and blacks for a fully pattern on pattern fun retro galore she says ‘everyday is literally dress up day!
Nothing makes her happier than knowing she's been able to spread a bit of 'daftness and joy to the world'
Victoria’s Takeaways
1.Question anyone who tells you there isn’t any work for the arts
2.Step into your children's world rather than expect them to embrace
3.Step fully into your originality
4.We need to stop limiting children need to teach us
5.The younger generation keep design industry
6.Wear your joy, it’s all connected
8.Don’t force it

Take Aways
1.The print room is more than the printing, it’s the mixing
2.Doing local fairs helps you grow as much as trade fairs, don’t underestimate them

5.Raising your bar and up levelling means outsourcing, this is generous, you’re giving others business and
6.Schedule in some time to percolate creative ideas and new technique’s
7.It’s ok to want to slow down and go against the grain, as designers we have that inner intuition follow your unique take on your craft
8.If being with people, working with others ie lecturing at uni, running workshops or helping your local community is important to you, make sure you schedule this is into your business now, don’t wait until you’ve achieved X or Y or, you’re ready now, you will find it will help your business more in terms of inspiration and motivation too!
9.Working sustainably as a small studio is complex and tough to work out what’s ok with you, sometimes that will mean the local business you’re using will outsource too, but remember you’re doing your bit.
11.Remember Brands are a person, this can get forgotten in the noise of the internet so it's important to stick to your core values as a business and it will be noticed further down the line. Treating everyone

Artist Matthew Burrows MBE started the #Artist Support Pledge initiative when the pandemic first hit in March 2020, he and his family hoped it would reach 1,000 participants, he didn’t imagine it would generate 70 million pounds! Matthew has won lots of awards last year but I’m sure his proudest moment was receiving an MBE at the Queens Honours.
The concept of the artists pledge is straightforward: artist are invited to post pictures of their work for sale for £200 or less on Instagram using hashtag #artistsupportpledge. Every time an artist makes £1,000 in sales, they in turn pledge to spend £200 on work by another participating artist. There are no third parties, payments are made directly from artists to artists.
Listen in to hear Matthews true core values, motivations and beliefs on philosophy's and community's.
Mathews Takeaways
1.Everyone should feel they have access to creativity and the arts.
2.Intellect, Feelings and spirit shouldn’t be taken apart and seen as separate entities.
3.It’s about how we live our lives and what kind of world we create as individuals, it’s no one else’s job, take ownership of how you’re showing up each day and if it matches your core values.
4.Write down what you can offer and bring to the table and refer to it daily
5.Give yourself permission to do it messy and make mistakes
6.Having a mentor group, a safe space to sound out your ideas is vital for your creative business
7.A supportive community helps feed and develop your creative business. Give people the opportunity to support each other and the means and system they will use it. As humans we thrive in villages.
8.It's a good sign if you feel slightly nervous about putting your art out into the World- it means it’s a new uncertain territory new! Trust that uncomfortable feeling
9.you need to change your money mindset to one that’s more comfortable asking for money, get your art, shift it by saying it’s not an exchange for time, it’s a gift you’re putting out into the world which then gives back and the energy goes on!

Bam-Bam is a visual storyteller whose work draws on image, shape, colour and narrative to create visionary expressions in paint. She loves how painting can transform the stuff of everyday life into vibrant and imaginative visual languages. At the heart of Bam-Bam’s aesthetic is a desire to revitalise the spaces and surfaces of the everyday world with vivid patterns and designs.
Whether she’s working on a mural, street art, a commission or collaboration, Bam-Bam embraces each project with an open mind and an appreciation of flow. For Bam-Bam, art-making is an intimate choreography with the movements and rhythms of the world and its inhabitants. Bam-Bam’s process is meditative and carefully conceived at the same time as it is highly adaptable and intuitive. She fuses traditional and contemporary styles, frequently employing bold geometric patterns. She works across a variety of materials and surfaces, using spray paints, stencils, prints, and pigments, leaving marks and brush-strokes on bodies, abandoned buildings, paper, textiles, and other canvases.
For Bam-Bam, painting is public performance. There is a robust theatricality to Bam-Bam’s painting practice, which involves characters and costumes in the development of each work. Often, these fantastic and fictional personas liberate Bam-Bam from the usual constraints of art-making and allow her imagination to run wild. As a result, many of Bam-Bam’s paintings express vivid psychedelic imagery that evokes a sense of fantasy, wonder, and euphoria.
Bam-Bam has developed many of her designs into wearable art and décor. Now, not only can you look at the paintings… you can become part of them.
Bam-Bams Takeaways
1.We can manifest anything but we have to put the work in
2.Know one is going to do this for you, You’ve got to give yourself a word sometimes and try!
3.It may not go the way you want, it will then be a real lesson
4.You can’t control how you’re going to be received, you can only create
5.Confidence grows it’s practiced
6.Collaborations help bring out a different creative energy it can inspire you into a new found direction
7.Stepping into an Alta ego/ character can really help step into confidence
8.There is no right or wrong decision we make the best we can at either moment, it’s either a moment that elevates you or a lesson.

Jessica Swift is a surface pattern designer, an artist and a successful online teacher, I get asked all the time if it’s possible to design for many different markets a d Jessica certainly manages too. Her work is colourful, whimsical and intuitive, Jessica created these magical oracle cards when she became a new mum.

Graham Cullis only discovered art in May 2020 during the pandemic whilst living in Bali, Indonesia. It appears he has a natural talent and he is now a full time oil paint artist with a 6 month waiting list for his unique "Surprise Commission" concept.
Art helped him through a very dark time when he experienced an intense bout of depression and now he wants to give back and help people discover ways of managing their own demons. Graham now has a fantastic much needed mental health campaign this project is now going global, it’s called the #karmacardproject. He sends packs of six gift cards of his art prints around the world to people pledging a small amount monthly amount on patreon.com/grahamcullisart
They can use these gift cards to spread love and positivity around the world to people who may need it as random acts of kindness.
Supporters in 23 different countries are receiving packs and it is growing fast!
This is very exciting and very encouraging as he believes soon he will have financial freedom to run all these wellness projects and produce his vlog to more of a professional level.
Graham makes regular vlogs in which he spreads the message about art therapy and wellness in general. I am collaborating with all kinds of artists and advocates for mental health.
He has just set up and piloted an art therapy youth club in Newquay Cornwall called Youth Art Connect their first event was on 24th April 2021 it was a massive success and very well received.
All that aside, you’re going to learn some new marketing tricks that have got Graham surf board sponsorship deals, lecturing and many tv and podcast gigs all from an extremely personable trick he does daily for his followers! listen to find out what it is
Graham's Take aways
1.Say yes, follow the yes's and keep being curious, even if you’re in your dark.
.
2.Say yes to workshops that’s a sign to what your inner interests are, you will never know what you’re good at if you say no to everything.
.
3.Work out what is your zone of genius? Yes you’re a creative, but are a good facilitator? A good talker? Great with people? Really Good at writing or good with children, this is normally the lowest hanging fruit this will be the thing that catapults you.
.
4.If you see the clown kid at school, take the time to see their strengths. Subconsciously They will always choose the clown role over letting others know they are struggling in class.
.
5.When charging, you can tell them your base rate - next mention what people have paid up too and let them decide?
.
6.Self development- There’s curve balls everywhere but as long as you’re working on you, we are never finished we are constantly learning and evolving as long as we remain humble this is a beautiful process.
.
7.You can make your own opportunities, if you believe in what you’re building- that energy turns into a passion and that’s infectious people want to be part of that.
.
8.When Marketing be genuine, and put your own personal spin on it, send a voice note people want to feel seen in the noisy world or of course even better send a song!
.
9.If you’ve got a message that you know would be a great campaign that will change lives even, then let others know get them involved people like to be part of something meaningful.

Writer and all round creative, Juliet Thomas gave up her corporate life after 2 decades of excelling her finance roles, but this path didn’t ever light her up, finally, Juliet jumped ship and yes you guessed, it she has found her purpose and her life’s true work.
Juliet did it messy and said yes to every new opportunity. Being humble paid off as within months Juliet was running a writing group which is now known as the Curious Creative Club!
However, through this time Juliet found out she had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a rare type of blood cancer which was a surprise to say the least. She’s now through chemo treatment and on the road to recovery, Juliet talks about what it was like going through all of this and in the pandemic too. And even through all of that she still found time to give weekly live workshops for psychologies magazine!
Juliet’s Take aways
1) If you can and are just starting out, have a year of play and experimentation and see what you fall in love with
2) Working on your own, and especially long term projects is hard, if you can find a group where you can share ideas and be accountable, as you would with colleagues in an office, and if there isn't one, create one yourself like we did.
3) Perfectionism is the death of moving forwards with your big dream, just start, you can tweak and improve later, nothing terrible will happen.
4) Don't let your own self-image / perception insecurities put you off being visible, sometimes not having those hang-ups about what you look like can be quite freeing, and the strength and focus instead becomes your message and that you were brave enough to show up - people will relate to that and be rooting for you.
5) Think yes first, no second, don't discount things out of lack of confidence - think what is the very worst that can happen, and then realise how unlikely that is
6) Follow the opportunity, not the money (as John Hegarty says) -you never know where it might lead and it can lead to some great collaborations and learnings
7) Spend time in nature, walking and noticing your surroundings - it's the ultimate top up for creative energy and we need that head space for idea generation and problem solving
8) Find your tribe and check in with them regularly, whether that be fellow creative friends or connections on Instagram - much as I love my family, half the time they 'don’t' get it, so you need that inspiration, advice, support and mentorship from like-minded people.
9) Don't beat yourself up if you have more than one creative passion, and have a multi-creative project portfolio of work, if it's what keeps you interested and motivated, who cares? But do try to find systems and techniques to put in place that work for you, so you don't feel completely overwhelmed and disorganised
10) Finally, don’t put off your creative dream and think I'll get around to it 'one day', if this last few years has taught us anything, it's that life is unpredictable - just do it, no regrets, and whilst you have the energy!

This week we are joined by artist Andy Greenacre creator of unruly print .He used to be a photographer teacher too but when he was told he won't be able to stand up for very long all day for the rest of your life, he of course questioned what was truly important and what creative path he really wanted to take, live and breath for work, as we know there is a big difference.
Andy ran the successful Makers Market From Home throughout lockdown, plus he broadcasts for Radio, which you might think nothing of until you hear Andy had a huge fear over public speaking!
Andy’s Takeaways
1.Project your energy
2.Remove people from your socials who make you feel negative
3.If you want more structure or accountability, ask another creative to collaborate with you, you will naturally level up and that energy together is huge
4.What are your boundaries? Know those when you want to work with others.
5.Keep being curious it’s what feeds us, if we get too busy we can forget to do try new art.
6.Champion yourself. People go to the theatres to see someone perform, they don’t go to see someone hiding In The corner!
7.Not everything has to be monetised, trust the creative road
8.Chase the play not the pay
9.Treat your creative business as work it’s not a side line when if you’ve got a day job for now, this is your life’s work what you’ve always wanted to start, go all in, if you haven’t the money, give your time on the side it won’t grow without your full respect. Your langue and the way you talk about his matters
10.What positives are you going to hold onto through lockdown that you will keep moving forward? Hold onto it. Write it down and set reminders on your phone to keep you from straying

Nadina Ali Is a graphic designer who creates stunning typography art and clothing with important messaging. Her website and bio reads ‘creating for the people!’ Nadina also designed the cover of Fredrick Joseph’s book ‘The Black Friend on Being a Better White Person!’
Nadina is an activist too, you will hear very quicken what a strong worrier she is! Nadine grow up in France, a 2nd generation Muslim immigrant from the tiny African country Comoros. Nadina put herself through university and left France to study and work in the U.K. Nadina relocated a few times, up and done the country to complete a second degree and work in Fashion for 8 years. As you will learn, Nadina makes her life circumstances work for her, she chooses how to get back up.
We do raise the question and dive deep into the question ‘how diverse is the design industry?
We talk about possible mindsets of brave immigrant families. This week is an extremely important conversation and we hope you will join in on it! Let us know your favourite takeaway!
Nadina’s Take always
1.You can’t control redundancy or bad circumstances, but you can control how you react to it.
2.No part of your journey is wasted, there’s no dead ends it’s all part of who you are today. You 6 years ago may not of taken this opportunity for example.
3.Nadina had only been to a museum once by the time she reached adult life because she felt it was for the elite! Check in your circles and see if this mindset is the case. Remember we all have power to educate and help with future generations
4.The traumatised mindset can take up to 6 generations to change if not worked on and questioned
5.To change a mindset and teach ourselves to be confident is hard enough, and that’s with evidence that works, let alone sending your children to a career you or your family have no experience in.
6.The mindset of not being qualified even with 2 degrees is an imposter syndrome, there are many extremely talented white humans who have self-sabotaged because they thought they didn’t deserve their success, now imagine how many ethnic talented souls wasted there must be?
7.The kill Bill fight effects everyone in the U.K it’s our human right as a democratic society to be able to protest. Find out how you can help in your area of online. I’ll put a link in the show notes.
8.If you have that racists uncle or cousin remind him or her that that footballer is a human and someone’s son. Have that uncomfortable conversation.
9.Stepping into your purpose takes courage, stepping into a world where you don’t feel represented in this day and age is not ok. If you’re a buyer or a design manager ask your manager, store account teams, where are the Hanukkah and Eid cards why aren’t there more LBGTQ wedding cards, adoption parent cards etc. Keep questioning nothing changes from comfort. Or if you’ve not got anyone, you can use linked in, Twitter, you all have power! Question it.
10.You are so much more powerful than you think. Share the uncomfortable posts on social media, start following new accounts from other countries even, watch the news from across the world on a big topic and see how different the perspective can be.
11.Don't be nervous if your white, say ‘I’m aware I’m white, help me use my power to help others to educate me’! People will see your hearts there. Having these conversations in this time is ludicrous isn’t it?!

Graffiti Life was co-founded by David Speed, Iona Thomas and Adam Brazier to create murals on company walls, advertising and even corporate workshops. Today, the leading graffiti and street art collective work for the likes of Disney, L’Oréal , YouTube and Microsoft.
Adam and business partner David Speed started their wildly successful podcast Creative Rebels 2 years ago working with Apple, Adobe and D&AD.
But all of that clearly isn’t enough him, Adam is also a fashion photographer. Adam works with London’s top models agencies, celebrities, influencers and shot covers internationally for Women’s Health and Beast magazines.
Adam’s Takeaways
1.Stay curious, it’s key to growth and longevity
2.If you feel triggered, for whatever reason- that other artist or your reactions to their amazing work, if it’s going to slow down your work and journey, it’s ok to switch off any distractions. Be honest with yourself. You can go back to it when you’re more confident with your work.
3.There’s always a beans and noodles stage, it’s normally the most brave fun and fancy free stage!
4.Does this excite you? If so, you have to double down on that
5.When you’re spending too much time on social media, ask yourself, am I a creator or a consumer?
6.Ask yourself this ‘am I spending way too much time on social media and less time on developing my craft?
7.Only consume content that will inspire you!
8.It’s ok to be an introvert, start looking at the gifts you’re creating for the world, it’s a game changer when you get out of your own head and start to feel it’s not about you and it’s about them.
9.Design a life that you don’t need to go on holiday away from!
10.Try all of your interests, if it doesn’t work it doesn’t work! How will you know you’re purpose of you didn’t try that thing?
11.Things will fail! Are you going to learn from it or let it stop you forever?
12.You no doubt learnt a new skill or met new contacts through that ‘failed’ project. Think of failure as re-direction!

Working at paramount pictures in old Hollywood was a dream come true for Lisa, working on block buster films such as Transformers and Iron Man, but it took cancer for Lisa to realise that yes she was working on huge films but was it actually what was calling her or like so many of us, very nearly the dream but not quite? Lisa thought I’m actually sat in an office watching someone else live their dream!
That was the moment Lisa made the award winning film ‘Free Hugs in Hollywood’ which also got printed in the book ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul!’

Denise Gasser is a mixed media artist, born and raised near the mountains of Utah.

Denise founded the ‘Art After’ project. Reconciling art and motherhood. A series of small paintings that occur in one sitting and must be finished once interrupted. When that happens, Denise writes on the back the date the time she started the time she finished and what the interruption was.

Denise’s Takeaways
1.Having honest conversation with other women is vital
2.Being a mum is lonely, being an artist is lonely! Make sure you reach out to creative communities online.
3.Finding time to create is vital to being a better Mum, because you’re being the better you!
4.Feeling burnt out isn’t ok! We are told its path and we need to juggle, spin those plates. Talk to your family and work out scheduling times for you!
5.We don’t have an adult telling us to take care of ourselves! It’s our job to think about what patterns and examples we are setting to our kids.
6.It’s ok to say being at home with the kids isn’t working out for us all. That doesn’t make you a bad parent! You’re an honest human.
7.Giving yourself permission is vital, not just for yourself but for others.
8.Take a good look at where your time is spent each day, which chunks are being spent on what areas and write it all down so you can see in detail how many people and jobs are taking you away from what you really want.
9.Stop asking why you should do it. What's the reason? Sometimes our bodies want to move and dance just because!
11.Chipping away is such a powerful mantra. Start telling yourself this each day.
12.If alarm bells are ringing for you or a family member regarding ADHD take an online test and have a look at the show notes for some of our favourite books.

Anything by Russel Barkley. I learned a lot from this talk I listened to on YouTube : https://youtu.be/YSfCdBBqNXY
We all used to meet on zoom back in the days when I didn’t know how it worked and hadn't ever used it! And then we moved onto the Voxer app which is a walkie talkie app. So for those of you who don’t know! My mentor group is Nicole Rivera, Kim Flodin, Claire Oldham West, Joanna and Lisa who will be on the podcast later this month. We all met on a course 2 years ago and we’ve been in each other’s lives ever since! By that I mean daily chats not just once a week. I thought now you are used to the concept of the Club House app you will realise that people are getting why conversation is so much more powerful than a blog or a pretty picture. I felt I needed to share with you what I feel has carried me through launching and continuing to chip away and grow my dream this through a pandemic.
There’s something about it not being your childhood friends or your family, we agree, when you’re evolving you need people who are on that same learning path at that time.
Here are our Takeaways
1.You being you will always attract the right community
2.In Order to be yourself you have to be vulnerable and open
3.Stop Your own story being on reply, by talking about it, that act alone makes your negative thoughts less powerful.
4.If you’re an empath and a career you, can use this trait in your business, there’s no reason why you can’t do an annual Charity project or Collaboration with a grassroots project that means something to you. This is what makes you you! Don't ignore it or think I'll do that one day.
5.There’s no greater therapy than starting your own business
6.Be open to talking to new people, they don’t have to be from your area I’m fact we think that it works better that way.
7.Feminine energy to us is not necessarily women, it’s more the ethos of Building community not competition.
8.Business is a pull of push feeling and no two days are the same!
9.Don’t pull away when life gets in the way, your business is all of you, your family issues of course are important. Ok you’re not going to show fully if you’ve had a bad week. This is where having the right tribe matters. As sometimes just one email or one post is still moving forward and if you’ve got your pals they show up to carry you.
You can. Connect with Nicole at stop writing alone and Joanna at Latino Living Keto, Claire at Slimming Stories podcast and Kim Flodin at Wise Women of the Woods! I’ll put all of the links in the show notes where you can listen to their podcast and see their offers. Plus you can find all of us on club house every Wednesday at 21:00 GMT at Stop Dreaming Alone.
Claire Hill is the founder of the successful brand Vivid Wire. Claire is a super human on so many levels. We could chat all day about her stunning wire art, but what I love even more about Claire is her story.
Claire Hill became a carer aged 8 when her dad died and her mum was pregnant with their 4th baby. Claire literally put down her sewing box on that day and grafted. Claire will never forget the kind stranger who paid for her buses across town when she passed her 11 plus exams. If her bus fare hadn’t of been sorted through those years, going to Grammar school would not have been an option.
Claire left her career as a high school deputy head last year. If that isn’t enough, Claire is also writing a hugely important book and studying her MA on Trauma in children.
Claire started her working life working with homeless families too. I think you will agree this woman is special warrior.
If you’re after an example of a modest, humble human who has succeeded in all 3 careers through sheer grit and optimism then listen in!
(When I meet a hustler like this not that I’ve met anyone like Claire we are going to go deep) Enjoy!
Claire’s Takeaways
1.If a child has shut down on their passion, look for the why? Are they on survival mode?
2.Their creative talent will keep bobbing back up though like a floating cork.
3.Remember, when a child has been through trauma, they need their basic needs to be met first. Sleep and food is a huge part of this.
4.If you’ve got a child who’s coming to you a lot, remember, you might be their only shining star.
5.If you’re in a profession so far away from your inner core, don’t worry it will come back, just put one foot in front of the other and keep following that feeling.
6.The scarcity mindset can kill businesses, there’s room for everyone, there’s no two businesses the same!
8.Ask yourself daily, does this make my heart sing? If it does you have to keep going on it.
9.Be hopeful, not positive.
10.People don’t wake up each day hopeful and positive, they do the inner work daily until it becomes a habit!

Emma uses her creative flare and years of professional experience to create stunning time capsules for families.
Emma talks about being honoured to create theses heirloom tributes, she taps into the energy she felt and has carried on feeling each day since she found out she had breast cancer in her mid 20's.
Emma talks about this as being ‘very lucky’ she says it was a gift that woke her up from sleep walking each day.
On the outside landing a job painting on the set design teams for channel 4’s tv show Hollyoaks and many kids programmes, her life couldn’t be better, right? Emma had no idea how much weight she carried from anxiety and imposter syndrome until this wakeup call shifted her whole life.
This is a huge conversation and I can’t wait for you to hear Emma’s Story.
Emma’s Takeaways
1.If you’ve got a nudge to do something more then follow it.
2.You may have the perfect creative job in the eyes of society, but you know feelings in your core and if it's not truly you.
3.Being creative Is within you, not the job, you can make money doing anything these days, go follow it.
4.Cancer or any hardship can be a blessing in disguise.
5.Imposter syndrome is huge and most people have experienced it, bring it out into the light and talk about it.
6.Life’s so short, it can change in a heartbeat, try the damn thing that’s whispering in your ear, there isn’t a bad ending to creating art for this beautiful planet. And what’s the alternative? You’re listening and honouring yourself.
7.It’s ok to feel a rubbish mum at times, we all do. Sometimes we snap even when we’ve done all of the reading and mental work. it takes a lot to shake off habits you might have grown up believing it even not agreeing with.
9.Shredding the beliefs that are put on us as kids takes a lot of work to unlearn, give it time and trust you’re on the right path.
10.Our parents only know what they know.

Elizabeth Silver is a Surface Pattern designer and a course creator. Elizabeth started her career 18 years ago in New York designing bedding in house, and next the apparel industry. Elizabeth of course absolutely loved her job designing for Baby Gap too.
8 years ago Elizabeth moved to her suburban dream and dove head first into running her own business. She ranched out from textile design and now spends her days creating art for all kinds of industries, including stationery, dinnerware, stamps and socks. Working with clients to come up with trend forward illustrations and prints.
We discuss all of nitty gritty details about freelance life- agency’s, trade shows, client work and the biggest subject - contacts and money!
We also cover self-care, Elizabeth says ‘having a great boss can make all the difference in your career, and even though designers often dream of being their own boss- when we do make the jump to being self-employed, we're often far too demanding on our favourite employee (ourselves)’
We talk about freelance life, the pros and cons to having an agent.

Elizabeth’s Takeaways
1.When you’re juggling a lot as a freelancer, client work, personal and agency work remember they all have a function work hand in hand did you helping each part grow. However, it is important to be organised and to keep re assisting though and Maintain a balance as much as you can.
.
2.Just sticking to one of these paths, client work for example will be good to grow but you might feel uninspired, and maybe not developing new styles. If this is the case, maybe set a personal project or a collaboration this will help push you through and keep you motivated
.
3.Check with your agent and your clients to see if they offer any other contracts they might offer different ones now.
.
4.Remember if you don’t hear back from a studio don’t worry they could just be in the kiddie of a huge deadline, send out a newsletter the following month. Also be mindful of trade shoes and hooray seasons.
.
5.Don’t be the bad boss to yourself, no one expects you to work 19 hour days.
.
6.Set your boundaries, turn off your notifications.
.
7.Celebrate your wins! Buy yourself a gift!
.
8.Remind your clients a few weeks before if you’re taking a break, this organisation goes a long way.
.
9.Don’t get overwhelmed when forecasting next year’s trends, remember big looks stay around for many seasons. Look at unicorns and Cacti’s, if you think an icon is still going to be big, look at what moves it in? Is the colour way or the technique, are rainbows now painterly or tonal this season for example?
.
10.Creatives are a lot more in tune with trends and forecasts than the general public, so don’t overthink it, go on what you feel is coming through, start noting what you've seen a few times you won’t be wrong.
.
11.Just because you’ve seen a new fresh trend this year it will still be coming through next year on the high street it will go from couture high end to further down. Cards and stationary are normally season behind homeware for example.
Leona Baker is a business mentor and coach in the creative industries, Leona is also the founder of Indie Roller.
Indie roller is a huge subscription hub for creatives who to be honest are the tightest gang I’ve known since high school days. Leona encourages entrepreneurs to play by their own rules to create the life they truly want.
Leona has been a real hustler through the 90’s cutting her teeth in the magazine world in London as a stylist then she spent years on her hugely popular jewellery and vintage stall in Portobello Market (these were the days when it wasn’t even called ‘vintage’ – more just ‘cool as’ in London)
Leona then created the hugely successful subscription box Lucky dip club, which looked like the dream business, she hired staff and saw large Revenue, only to find that it made Leona feel like a massive fraud. Yep that pesky imposter syndrome you hear many of us have gone through and sabotaged. This is when Leona dived deep into mindset work with both a therapist and a coach. Listen in to this hugely inspiring conversation.
Leonia takeaways -
1.If you’re curious in nature follow allow that fun side to you and trust yourself and follow that feeling.
3.Always try to laugh at yourself, it makes the tough days lighter
4.Press pause and share your wins each week
5.Let go of shiny perfection if it’s not you, it’s not serving you or helping others
6.However we emerge from this time, things will have shifted for the better
7.Humans are resourceful
8.What change are you seeking for your business right now? Try to clarify that.
9.Share your knowledge, there’s room for everyone
10.Simplify - So you can deliver the quality of work you want
11.You don’t have to say something 7 times in your business before people remember you did it, it’s more like 70 times in this noisy arena, keep saying it louder and louder for the people at the back. That email you spent all day writing, may not have even been opened!
12.I say this most weeks because it’s true and its why we all keep telling you; Your business is 95% mentality. You have to sort out your mindset and you will see your business fly

Ebony Newton left the job she loved as a senior designer for Hallmark Ltd to go back to Northumberland to start freelancing after becoming a mother. The flexibility freelance life gave Ebony’s family, became more important as their son’s complex needs grew, especially as her husband works away 90% of the time.
After her second son was born, Ebony set up a second business, Dotty Black. An online paper based gorgeous gift shop for little people. Dotty Black brought products to the customer which couldn’t be found previously. After designing for In house studios and clients brands for so many years, Dotty Black became Ebony’s creative outlet, not only to explore her own personal style, but also the brand started to feel like it had a bigger purpose - offering gifts with empowering messages for little and also big humans too who may be battling each day.
As time went on Ebony’s brand grew as she decided to work less on her client work due to the new chapter of being a parent to a child with complex disabilities
Ebony’s Takeaways
2.If you’ve made good connections and relationships throughout your career, contact them when you’re available for work, the word will get around.
3.You will get more work, you didn’t see the opportunity before, because you weren’t looking for it!
4.If you’re doing 90% of the parenting, make sure you do something for yourself in the 10% ‘time off’ because it’s all too easy to get other chores done.
5.If you want to create your own product brand, see what problems and gaps arise in your everyday life that you want solving? Maybe you could design that product
6.When you say no to work that doesn’t fit, you are actually making room for more yes projects.
7.Boundaries are huge and as we know currently through this pandemic, they change with time, so keep analysing where you’re at.
8.There’s always something to do with your business, so learn to schedule in all of the self-care as well as family admin.
9.If you have that feeling of empowerment, or a big nudge feeling, that’s the thing, there it is, that's the magic, double down on that. Remember a message straight from the heart goes straight to the heart.
10.When you’re on Instagram or Etsy and you have that horrid comparisonitis feeling, that monster on your shoulder, remember everyone is fighting a battle you have no idea about. Just know that, and know that you can keep going too! Not in spite of what’s going on in your life, but because if what’s going on!

Simone is the founder of successful monthly sticker brand Bowler Bear Designs. A monthly subscription sticker box beautifully designed with daily positivity messages and charming encouraging illustrations for mindfulness and keeping uplifted during these times.
Simone shines a light on mental health, demystifying anxiety and our negative emotions that can be a constant inner voice.
Showing up for this much needed service through the first Lock down whist home schooling 2 children was tough, Simone stepped up during this time regardless and of course the business actually thrived which can come with guilt!
We talk about coping strategies and how she juggled home-schooling with her non-negotiable running group, Simone started it years back now with 30 plus members! Plus juggling all of that with Indie Roller Fairs too and little did we know just 2 weeks ago that all of this would be actual useful strategies for us all now!
Simone's Take aways
1.Look for your people on Instagram and only people who uplift and inspire.
2.Being a worrier is ok if you shine a light on it, it makes it all much smaller and knowing that, telling your truth gives permission to others and to own their own parts of themselves
If you need a deep conversation with your children or whoever, go on a walk or a car drive.
Running is great for your mental health with a friend. It is a great for lockdown right now, maybe on your phones through lock down? Have ‘Corona coaster!’ Chat about your day, let off all of your steam
virtual races - great north run are doing a January one!
It’s so easy right now to put your business or passion to the side and say I’ll pick it up when this is all over. Don't that! Keep showing up for yourself! Use it or loose it! Because whats the alternative? You not having something for you right now? It doesn’t have to be as much as last year, just keep chipping away for your own piece of mind. No one is going to pick it up for you.
Everyone is at a different part of their journey and you will get there.
When you’re experiencing a creative block, move onto your admin or mocking up, or packaging, as you’re still moving through your lists.
At the end of the week, focus only on all the things that went well and write it down as ‘ I am proud of myself because...

Kat Williams is a writer, editor and of course the face behind the successful wedding blog and magazine Rock N Roll Bride.
Started In 2007 Kat noticed a gap in the market for advice on how to plan and create a wedding that wasn’t the big white day, but in fact the small alternative, colourful, accepting and more importantly unique party!
Rock N Roll Bride is one of the biggest wedding blogs in the world! When Kat launched her bi-monthly Rock N Roll Bride magazine in 2015 it was reported as being the fastest debut selling issue of a magazine ever! It sold out within 72 hours and sold over 1,000 copies within the first day alone.
In 2019 Kat published her book, Rock N Roll Bride: The Ultimate Guide for Rock N Roll Brides, which instantly went to #1 in Amazon’s wedding category.
Kat took the world and the wedding industry by storm which of course comes with a lot of negativity to deal with. Kat talks about how she navigates all of the things, how she deals with the haters, and how she stays confident and true to her voice and vision.
Kat’s Takeaways
Having a large online following means you will get a few people who don’t like what you’re doing and that can be hard to deal with sometimes, especially when people feel like they know you. That can be difficult, but understand it’s them not you.
Wanting to help people Is one of the best ways to run a business and run your life!
Getting married is more than a wedding, it’s many loved one’s feelings, family traditions and beliefs and hang ups you didn’t even know you all had, but there’s always a different way to do it and actually do it your way and enjoy it all!
Happy people don’t spread hate and lies, so if that’s something you’re dealing with, just remember, it’s actually impossible for the brain to physically be nasty and be grateful or love at the same time. They are clearly in a miserable space in their life.
If you’ve had struggles around food, dieting and all of that body image, don’t worry if you stray off your path and struggle a few years later, it’s a constant journey and takes re grouping often. It’s like gardening, if we don’t keep pruning daily, the weeds will show up! Be kind to yourself!
Owning your business is a mental game, morning routines can really help you feel in control, especially in this world right now where it feels there isn’t much of that.
7.Exercising actually changes your thoughts, also try tapping!
Confidence is a skill; you can practice and cultivate.
You can be bubbly and not confident.
If you have self-belief you can be so powerful!
You can be fearful and do the thing anyway! In fact, every successful entrepreneur is, they just make friends with their fear!
We don’t know what the world is going to throw at us next, but remember this, you have the power to make your life the way you want it to be and you are more capable than you give yourself credit for.

So, imagine getting featured in Vogue when you’re just graduating your MA! Straight after this, your next collection is also showed at London Fashion week.
This week’s guest Helen Kirkum. Helen is a footwear artist and designer based in London. Helens studio creates bespoke handmade sneakers by reworking discarded components. Helen is so conscious about the cost of fashion in terms of carbon footprint She won’t even take a pair of used discarded trainers from the recycle centre! Nope she will only take that one dumped shoe, creating wearable couture collages from discarded sneakers. Helen is a pioneer of the hacking, re-worn and patchwork aesthetic within the sneaker Industry.
So of course, after graduating in 2016 Helen got snapped up to work in house for Adidas, but after a while the artist within Helen had to go back to London to pursue her vision further!
Helens clients include Nike, Ellese, Lacoste, Timberland, Murakami Takeshi to name a few! Helens exhibited all over the world, her MA collection of course started at RCA London Helen then went on to exhibit in Minnesota, Philadelphia, China, Bordeaux.
Helens Takeaways
Creating a path that no one else has built before you is scary, but remember this; the worlds needs what you have to offer, so keep on going!
You don’t have to know the end destination, in fact most entrepreneurs and artists don’t! You just have to follow that feeling and know the next few steps.
Get a mentor or coach to keep you accountable or start an accountability group so you know you will keep on the path.
When pitching to companies or new clients, write a quirky or funny subject to grab their attention!
If you believe in your project, don’t be swayed by another people’s vision.
It’s ok to not know what to email or say, keep drafting. We all get uncomfortable and we should feel uncomfortable we that’s where we truly grow.
Get to know other designers in your space, collaborations are a great way to help push each other.
If projects had been cancelled or works quieter use this time, to work on the parts of your business you’ve been putting off, do you can start next year strong!

Mati Rose is a successful intuitive artist, she listened to her inner voice before this though, Mati studied at art college later than her peers, aged 29 and started her painting career in her early 30’s after trying different paths, finally she listened to her gut and took the big leap of faith. Thank goodness for us she did!
Mati was one of the first creative bloggers 16 years ago. During this time, the fantastic world renowned art agent Lilla Rodgers became Mati’s agent.
Mati Rose is an adventure, a seeker, not just in self-discovery but her bravery shows through being one of the few artists to start online courses 12 years ago, not just painting but intuitive painting courses!
Matie has illustrated for brands Patagonia, Upsey Daisy, illustrated children’s books, written books, created online courses, and leads sell out retreats around the world.
Mati is an intuitive painter so we talk about how she’s navigated this during this pandemic.

2.Listen to your gut, if you want to redirect, your life can be wildly different!
3.Follow that feeling
4.Signing the contract with that famous agent or getting that book deal isn’t one big break, it’s many small actions - amending or sending more refined emails, reminding people about yourself.

Ben Pechey is a fashion stylist, writer, award winning content creator and a huge LGBTQ activist
Ben identifies as non- binary- not exclusive male or female- ‘They/them’ are their preferred pronouns. Ben's mission is to live in a world where kindness educates.
Ben was relentlessly bullied growing up in a quiet rural Yorkshire town. Ben says It’s very common for LGBTQ people to miss out on their teenage years.
It wasn’t until Ben went to university they could fully step into Ben's true self.
Ben was lucky enough to become a fashion editor whilst still studying at university, which of course meant Ben could hit the London fashion catwalk running.
Of course, like many, 2020 meant everything got cancelled and cuts were made. This could of broke Ben. Going back to a tiny rural village in York meant Ben hasn’t been out mixing at all since March, Bens mental health of course suffered deeply, but what did Ben do with this?
Well they started talking about it all!
Fully, no pussy footing. What did this mean for Ben? Well Ben’s never been busier! Appearing for brands such as high streets Matalan, writing for cosmopolitan, Women’s Health’ plus Minus magazine restless magazine, The Guardian, Goldie magazine to name a few. Plus, Bens just announced that Ben is writing a book! Oh, and have I mentioned Bens amazing podcast ‘the happy place?! ‘Ben covers some of the tricky aspects of being human
We chat about all of this, but more importantly I wanted Ben to talk to me like I was his grandma as I’m fully aware many people don’t know what to say or fully understand the terminology for LGBTQ so I asked for Ben to explain it all to me for you guys too!
Bens Takeaways
1.Respect and value each business opportunity. Remember how you conduct yourself throughout is important. As they will come back again with a bigger budget.
2.If you don’t know the correct terminology or are nervous, don’t want to offend, just say that, address it straight away, they will be pleased it’s talked about rather than avoided.
3.If you’re finding your community to be toxic, speak out, you’ll find it isn’t just you who's thinking that.
4.As long as you’re coming from a calm genuine place people won’t feel offended. Your views are always valid!
5.Don’t forget to remind people, Fashion has power, don’t be told otherwise. Think how women felt wearing trousers in the 20’s now thinks how liberated people feel expressing themselves in makeup, dresses or heels.
6.You can love fashion right now in this climate, being more of a conscious buyer is actually quite fun, it makes us think more and actually experiment more.
7.Remember, it’s common for many LGBTQ people to miss out on their teenage years. So, the 20’s are so important! Give them room to explore and express at any age.
8.The best teachers and counsellors in life have been through struggle too, empathy is truly a super power. If you use your struggle and pain to help others it might help you heal, and switch hurt into purpose.
9.If you’re feeling like Ben with not wanting to go out into the world since the beginning of lock down, go easy on yourself and know you’re not alone. Remember how brains and bodies have muscle memory, if you take small steps each day and slowly increase it you will gain confidence. Do reach out to others though as this is not necessary you don’t need to be alone. There’s Millions feeling like you right now.
10.If you’re a writer a creator or I. The public eye and you’re wanting to change your voice to be more in line with who you really are, try one or two articles out of 7 and see how you feel. Send it to a close trusted friend first if that helps. As you’ll know what you hate the minute you hit send to them first.
11.Your bravery and strength will not come without pain and setbacks. But the other side is worth it!

Podcast - Queer Talk, Finding your Fabulous
Richard Tillotson successful brand Mungo and Shoddy Cards is reaching 7 years and has published nearly 900 different design offerings!
You will recognise his fantastic ranges on Amazon, Paperchase, Card Factory and Moonpig to name a few. Richards designs won two prestigious Henries awards for Tigerprint plus he came 2nd last year with his Mungo and Shoddy brand.
Before this, Richard used to write and manage the editorial team in Hallmarks Tigerprint studio. To be able to offer your natural humours voice is one thing, but to switch to a sympathy sentiment message on the same morning whilst writing an uplifting verse for another Marks and Spencer’s demographic is pure talent!
Richards designs won two prestigious Henries awards for Tigerprint plus he came 2nd last year with his Mungo and Shoddy brand.
We chat about how the business is now working with Mungo and Shoddy’s collaboration with artist Yvonne Robson. These ranges are top sellers reaching no 3 and top 5 on Amazon! Having your own brand is of course great, but having to brief another very different artist's style is a completely different skill, we talk about this and how Yvonne felt working with such an established brand.
Richards wife left her job for the NHS to run the business full time alongside parenting two tween daughters a few years ago which of course is huge plus of course this year navigating all of this through lock down!
I also want to mention which I think is so inspiring, and very apt for creatives right now is that Richards navigated all of his career without a university degree.
Richard's Takeaways-
1.You don’t need a degree! Make sure your portfolio has a strong and varied body of designs. Remember Studios are looking for what they don’t already offer.
2.Sentiment is so important to a card. Make sure it’s given as much thought as the imagery.
3.The freelance world is tough and it’s ok to feel this! It’s a mind game. Confidence is key but it doesn’t define your creativity, it takes inner work. If you’re feeling this too, there’s other ways to freelance. You don’t have to be in a studio waiting to be briefed.
4.Finding your own rhythm is key, you can factor in times for creative thinking and times when you know it will be best for the admin to fit around busy holidays for example.
5.Allow enough creative time when briefing other artists!!
6.Trade shows are another world, reach out to stall holders you admire for advice and tips. You will find most creatives love sharing what’s worked or not for them.
7.Don’t expect instant results at shows or events they are a great place to network. Remember you don’t sow the seed and harvest at the same time. Trade shows are a big investment so research which ones are best fit for your brand. And keep going!
8.Know your customer! Is it the end customer you need to reach or is it the buyer for a store? They are different!
9.If you are feeling overwhelmed or struggling with creativity, Why not Have device detox for a week!!
You can find all of Mungo and Shoddy’s designs at-

This week is part 1 of a 2 part series! I had a wonderful chat with Richard Tillotson the creator of Mungo and Shoddy cards and Artist Yvonne Robson.
Yvonne Robson is an artist. Yvonne’s also been a designer, creative category manager and ran the main design studio for Marks and Spencers design studio Tigerprint. Yvonne has also been studio design manager and most recently she has managed the Ideating team for Hallmark. Yvonne has nurtured designers and design graduates from all over the U.K and each year straight from New Designers ND Awards.
After over two decades thoroughly loving all of the roles she had at Hallmark, Yvonne has now dared to jump into a whole new life; she's Created for herself. Not only is Yvonne freelancing, facilitating workshops, she's also gone back to college to studio counselling, taking this leap is huge, Yvonne’s is the sole parent in a house for her three extremely proud teenagers!
Yvonne now holds painting workshops which sell out fast. She also offers private mentoring for artists of all abilities. Many are accomplished designers who might need a new direction or some concentrated time on a subject matter or new style.
Yvonne has recently painted a few stunning ranges for Mungo and Shoddy cards 'sun follows rain’ and ‘With the Beatles’ as you can imagine they are selling well on Amazon.
We talk about this and Yvonne’s transition, and I think you will see how her caring personality suits counselling too.
Yvonne’s Takeaways
1.Nurturing your students is vital. We create our best if we feel it’s safe to explore.
2.Floral workshops are about the energy to your brush strokes as well as the movement.
3.Going back to College in your 40’s with 3 children to support single handed is brave. But that’s where the magic lies.
4.It’s not about getting messy it’s about getting confident
5.Dare to jump and trust that inner pull.
6.You absolutely can build your career and life around multi passions
7.Make peace with what am I?
It’s ok to not know what your Identity is at this moment, you can be multi passionate and your talents will feed into each other.

Kaityln Bullen is brand manager, fashion designer and stylist for the successful vintage fashion label Blue Rinse.
The no 1 voted UK fashion store Blue Rinse is 24 years old! They now have a second store in Leeds, Manchester, ASOS, plus their label can be found in many Topshop and Topman stores around the U.K
Kaityln talks about all parts that her role requires, including the hard graft and the pure love Kaityln and her team have for this ethical up cycling brand, offering unique garments for fashion lovers. We even chat about the stories regarding the journey these pieces have been on prior to being reworked in Blue Rinse.
Kaitlyn is also multi passionate, she creates stunning bespoke resin homeware using hand-picked wild flowers, we chat about how she juggles all of this too.
Kaitlyn’s takeaways
1.Own not Being ‘on trend and show your natural flare of pattern and fabric clashing or unusual garment cuts.
2.If you have a story about the original garment or fabric then tell it!! In a world of mass produced and cheap fast clothing, customers want more individual garments that have a story to them.
3.As a creative we should always be thinking about sustainability.
4.Hire local or if you’re not at that stage, shop local! It’s all good energy to you and your work
5.Feeling overwhelmed and spinning plates is not good for our health, listen to your body and work with your intuition.
6.Take a step back and think ‘what can I put my energy into?’ Rather than forcing it!
7.Don’t be ashamed of being a seeker, it’s a growth mindset!
8.Looking for beauty wherever you are during these strange times Is a super power us creatives have. Use it!
9.Success is having a job that doesn’t feel like work. Or also being grateful for where you are now!

Ben is a Manchester based award winning Illustrator, author of Champagne And Wax Crayons and host of the original thinking and creative innovation podcast 'Arrest All Mimics'
Ben's unique energetic brush style illustrations have been used by the Guardian, Channel 4, World Wrestling, The Premier League, UNICEF, Penguin Books, among many others. He hosts a great podcast ‘Arrest All Mimics’ he's given many talks and lectures at Universities, been featured in Design Week, Creative Review and of courses his latest book ‘Ya Mum’ which is out this week!
‘Ya Mum’ is a rancid collection of short stories, moments and embarrassments from Britain’s cultural underbelly. And guess who narrated it? The happy Mondays Shaun Ryder!
Ben's Takeaways
1.Only put out what you want more of
2.Doing a side project takes belief and bravery and because it’s not making money at this point it needs the respect the paid work gets too, as this be the reason we leave the project unfinished. Keep chipping away at it as there is always a win win ending you will Always gain from it in some way!
3.The drive Is not about the prestige or gloss, it’s about fulfilment and satisfaction
5.Creativity can lift us of depression
6.The opposite of depression is purpose
8.If you are painfully shy, own it! Own your personality!
9.Paying the bills of course is important but if you aren’t happy about the direction in which your work is at then you have to keep going with your side projects. It’s side projects that keep us inspired at those times and work often comes from them!
10.You don’t need a book deal any more, spend your time and money on an editor and the right designers and creatives of course but self publishing is the game now!

If you think the work place isn't equal today, imagine what it would have felt like presenting to all male board rooms and working 100-hour weeks then having to party straight after to fit in at the office? We aren't talking the 1970's, Julie talks about working with just one other female in the agency world in the 90's!
Jules has since headed the huge artwork team for Tigerprint and Hallmark for years, lead contracts in the large UKG studio and many more whilst her time living in the Caribbean.
Alongside all of this Jules has a successful stunning digital design brand which has given her the most glamorous life, working with Chanel, and an haute Couture fashion brand she's contracted to keep top secret! Jules also works with lots of TV celebs Premier league and international footballers and influencers from Towie, Real housewives of Cheshire, Katie Daley, Leanne Brown, Tanya Beardsley on all of their beauty brands plus exciting brands like Mister Sister and Drammock International where Jules gets to go in the lab and be part of the testing stage coming up with formulas and combination ideas!
However, at this time Jules got told she had cancer. It was terminal and she literally had a year to live! 3 years on and she's keeping its ass at bay! You will hear Jules talk about how this has led her to charity work in Africa called ‘One Woman at a Time’ charity and how differently she looks at her life now.
Jules Takeaways
1.If you put your fees up for certain projects it means you can afford to do more for your local clients who are at a different pay level.
2.Being a full time Creative isn’t a hobby, price that job with the respect it deserves!
3.When pricing, remember, people are paying for your years of knowledge and experience. If that job doesn’t take as long, that’s your prerogative, and your years of storing materials and tools to make it a quicker job!
4.Passing on work feels good, if you can’t do the whole brief, don’t worry, this is what tradesmen do, and its definitely what large companies do! Get that website designer or videographer or social media expert on the project, it feels great and adds a different energy to the brief you were once stuck on.
5.Remember when you earn more, you are taking the pressure off yourself so you can do some other maybe meaningful activities with your life?
6.Celebrate your achievements!
7.You can be the best designer in the world but if people don’t see it what’s the point, that’s actually selfish!
8.Celebrate being a commercial designer your work is actually viewed more than most!

2.It’s what’s going on in the inside that really counts.
3.The treasure you seek is in the dark side of yourself.
4.When you’re looking for what’s different about you, just look at what you’re insecure about.
5.We don’t remember the compliments, only the insults and those insults you've had is what makes you you!
6.The school system wasn’t for different thinking it was designed for the industrial revolution.
7.You are unique in all of the universe; you contain the most complex machinery device in the world.
9.We as humans don’t even know the full brain yet!
10.Diversity within our species allowed humans to survive!
11.Passing as normal is exhausting, stop trying! Stop holding back. You be you!
12.If you’re wondering about a family member, remember girls hide it well. Hence why more buys are diagnosed as children.

14.As a creative try not to over plan too much, the special sauce is in the middle bit.
15.ADHD is a freaking superpower! Please make sure you tell all children and adults this!

How do you switch from designing for your clients brand and trends to finding your own true creative voice and being briefed to design more of that? Finding your own style is where the real magic happens. Andy J. Pizza, illustrator and host of the ultra-inspiring Creative Pep Talk Podcast talks about it all.
For those of you who don’t know Andy he’s designed for Sony, YouTube, The New York Times, The Guardian, Washington post, Amazon, Google, Smart Car, Urban outfitters, Wired magazine, Nickelodeon. Andy has a couple of really cool Skill-share classes out, he's a speaker too plus he’s got a stunning book out ‘Creative Pep Talk Inspiration from 50 Artists’
Which I have a copy I will be giving away to a lucky winner! I’ll talk about details at the end of this episode so stay tuned!
Andy’s Takeaways
1.Your creative voice doesn’t find you. You have to do the work.
The magic lies in not knowing where you’re going in your work. In the playing part the bit where you're in your intuition and you’re simply trusting your own good taste!
It’s never been more important to find your creative voice as it is right now, in this time in history. The world needs your art more than ever!
We all need stories! You the creative are the storytellers
Do you love your art enough to risk not winning?
Ask yourself this, what’s the thing you’re so passionate about and you’re willing to be bad at?
7.Vulnerability is the not knowing if you’re going to be successful!
Survive as a creative you had to find your hiding mechanisms! They helped you cope in the past! However there comes a time when they aren’t serving you anymore!
The resilience of an adult artist is unbelievable. Don’t forget this! What it takes to be a creative throughout your life is brave!
10.Split your working week into paid work with what you can make the most about of instant money from and then look at how you can free up the rest for your own business project.
11.You can’t create whilst you’re stressing about money, so put the time and respect into making that dollar or pound doing what you know you can do! Don’t complain about that Mundane job you wish was more creative, has more Freedom etc, instead look at the positives and really remind yourself it's paying your bills whilst you work out your steps and transition. Trust the process!

Creative Pep Talk: Inspiration form 50 Artist
Ben Haynes is a professional music producer, he dared to take the leap from his safe job in the NHS 11 years ago and hasn’t looked back!
Haynes Music production does two things, Music Production for Solo Artists & Composition for Media.
Ben has produced songs for a large huge range of genres, including global giant Formula 1, award winning Country singer Kezia Gill and the critical acclaimed musical ‘Poppy Fields’
Ben openly talks about the fear of leaving a safe job in the NHS when his daughter was only 12 months old and the transition of what setting up a business really looked like in those first few years.
What it was like as a teenage boy at school and the importance of teachers in those formative years of growing up.
Ben also talks openly about his battle with depression and what he’s done in his business to help with this going forward.
Bens Takeaways-
1.If people tell you not to do the thing you want to dive into, it’s their fear they're projecting!
2.Putting yourself out there is being vulnerable.
3.The real magic in producing music is how you make people feel with the finished track!
4.Don’t labour too long over a piece, remember you lose the intuitive feelings and the initial creative vision in the piece.
5.Learn which part of the day you are most productive.
6.SEO is so important for your website, invest in the time.
7.If this is a side hustle or your main business, remember no one went with that builder or joiner who said he just likes doing it as a hobby! Go all in with both feet, that energy works. People appreciate it! Enthusiasm is attractive.
8.Depression or dark thought patterns can happen at any stage in life, seek it out with a doctor or professional but even if you feel ‘better’ note the times of year, circumstances etc as it’s important to seek patterns that can be a trigger. However also understand that if you do ‘the work’ meaning reading great books, seeking support, changing areas like stressful jobs, giving up bad habits maybe or changing to healthier practices, then this ‘dark dog’ as many name it, may not come back at all.
9.There’s no two depressions the same as there’s no two people the same, log and note what it looks like for you.
10.We aren’t going to be for everyone, you might experience a time where you work with an artist and you don’t gel, that’s fine it’s not about you, we have no idea where that other person is in their head or indeed life or it could just be a personality clash.

Gillian Flint is a children's books illustrator, this hasn't always been the case though, Gill has been a successful illustrator for 17 years now but after 10, Gillian felt slightly, very almost, nearly ready, to reach out to book agents. We talk about this and what persistence and determination really look like for a mum of two.
Her clients include CBeebies, Rodale Kids, Penguin Random House, Charlesbridge, Alfred A Knopf, Penguin Random House, Hardie Grant Egmont, Little Bee Books, Worthy Kids, Five Mile Press, Bonnier, Oxford University Press, Highlights Magazine, Highlights High Five, UK Greetings, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Tesco, Clintons, and many more.
Gills takeaways
1.If you're freelancing for a come company you’ve got relationship with offer to go in and help if they aren’t too far away, those connects and relationships go along way!
2.If you’re wanting to get into another area of illustration like books, then trade shows are great way to connect with the right agents. Of course, Covid changed this but there is still linked in or twitter!
3.Make sure you plan in enough research time for big briefs
4.You don’t need a fancy studio to start, create a corner with a portable trolley with your materials in or hide away in your tv cabinet. Don’t wait for all the gear to start the thing
5.Getting up earlier each morning to work is far more productive than staying too late. You are giving yourself the freshest awake empty part of your new day rather than the tired end of the day part.
6.Having a side project helps with your creative flow when you have to be creative for your day work
7.Remember, this isn’t to sell or show just for your own joy
8.It doesn't have to be creative, a hobby could be learning a language, fishing, dissent matter what it helps feel. It can put Control if your life rather than work life and family juggles

What does Black Lives Matter actually stand for in the UK?
Spoken word artist and fashion label True colours explains what it's really like growing up in U.K as a second-generation Nigerian.
Prior to Nigeria's independence from Britain, gained in 1960, many Nigerians studied in the UK. This doesn't mean everything has been rosy. True Colours dives deep into the mindsets and ignorance he and of course most has had to endure all of his life.
We of course talk about True colours poetry and fashion labels but I also wanted him to come on and tell us his experiences and point of view at this time in history here In the U.K.
True Colours Takeaways
1.You Could be the inspiration or huge influence to a young person, that might be a neighbour or your child’s friend, never underestimate the power of your words of actions.
2.Its about being different and celebrating this not being the same!
3.BLM is about respect to every human not one community!
4.Get uncomfortable, watch those documentaries or tackle that Acquaintance who’s rolling her eyes about another protest during a pandemic.
5.Writing is freedom. We have a responsibility to keep this going if it’s within us and we have the freedom to express it.
6.Don’t be afraid of asking your friends and love ones their views and feelings at this time. These conversations need to be kept going; we can’t let them be swept away again.
7.Step into your individuality and show your uniqueness.
8.You be you and be the best version you can be!

Biafra's Struggle for Survival by Christopher Chukwuemeka Ejiofor

One of the biggest struggles many creative entrepreneurs face is pricing. Many find it difficult to reach their desired income because they haven’t got an idea of how much is needed to earn each week to get to their end of year goal.
This week I chat to business coach Debbiedoodah.
In this episode Debbie shares a simple tool she created for her clients to help them make more money!
Debbie is a 6 times award winning business coach, strategist, and all things supportive for creative entrepreneurs.
As well as coaching, she lectures digital marketing at universities, she also runs a fantastic group ‘The blue stockings society’ which is a weekly meet-up in Nottingham for inspiring business owners wanting to connect! Debbie also has a Membership group called ‘Freedom Seekers’.
If that’s not enough, Debbie has a fantastic weekly podcast with her friend Amy called ‘Women Who Create’ which was named top 5 in the U.K for women in business!
Debbie’s been named ‘U.K’s digital Woman of this Year’, and ‘MarketEd Live top 30 marketers that Inspire’ plus Top 50 Twitter Influencer for Gender Inequality to name but a few!
So of course, Debbie has been published in Forbes, the Guardian, f: Entrepreneur, NatWest business, the ecologist, and so much more including radio and local Television
Debbie's story is a big one, she talks about being a young single mum and finding out just months into motherhood that she had Cancer. We talk about Debbies experience and how important she thinks a positive and resourceful mindset is key.
I know you’re going to love her is she’s so much fun and generous you will instantly feel inspired creatively, which I know many artists don’t feel like in conversations around business strategies.

My guest this week is Australian artist Tracy Verdugo.
Tracy is a teacher, online course creator and best-selling author.
Tracy’s work has been exhibited internationally and she has built a business around teaching others to connect with their creative side, she’s held amazing art retreats all over the world!
What I love mostly about Tracy’s courses and style, is her intuitive mixed media painting which of course requires the students to truly let go and loosen up and break down pre conceptions and maybe bad habits that we can all be guilty of it we don’t mindfully notice our creative perfections.
We chat about the fact that Tracy didn’t think of herself as an artist until late 30’s, in fact her first art class wasn’t until this decade! Which I love, as this must inspire so many people who are frankly in their own way!
I mean guys Elizabeth Gilbert has read this book and been one of her students!
So of course, we talk about their friendship over the years and the retreat Elizabeth ran in Bali this February which Tracy got asked to be part of! Of course, Elizabeth then took her classes at this retreat!
Tracy's takeaways
1.Tracy didn’t start this creative chapter until after a career in teaching and raising a family. She didn’t try an art class until she was in her 30’s so there’s always a good time to try something and if you’re in love with it can grow into a whole new life for you!
2.Being strong in your craft is the same as any skill; it’s not a mythical talent you are born with, it takes hours and hours of practise. And the want and need to develop!
3.Holding a creative space is sacred.
4.Doing the inner work is so important, successful business owners have to have the right healthy mindset.
5.Running on a high inspired place without switching off is damaging! Stress can happen from being in an excited elevated joyful space too. Just because you’re living your best life you still need to practice self care and healthy habits. Boundaries need to be marked.
6.Keep up with your Monograms and her second opinions and as Tracy advises to be your own advocate.
8.If you’re a seeker and an explorer you can absolutely carve this into your creative journey so the two passions go hand in hand.
9.We really don’t know anything beyond this moment.
Tracy also has a new fantastic course out this week actually with an early bird offer about how to tell your story through your art, it looks amazing so check it out!!

Tiff Manuell paints her bright edgy bright edgy abstract pieces onto large canvases sourced from India which then they get cut up sent off to a talented team who make them Into the most amazing one off bags!!
The way Tiff runs her business is equally as magical, her shop is also her huge studio which means customers can go and see her paint and create her latest pieces, and actually speak to her and tell her which bit you would like her to cut or just have a real intimate experience seeing where these pieces were created!
So of course it makes sense Tate Modern London would approach and stock these stunning pieces of art!
Tiff’s takeaways 💥✨
1.If a studio or shop isn’t speaking to you what about a warehouse or a large space where your customers can visit👌
2.Show your children your day to day work, get them involved. It's great for them to see how hard we have to work and how serious we have to be. Plus they will see the wins and highs💪
3.Giving college pupils work experience is a great way for them to meet possibly their first successful creative and it’s rewarding for you too! 💚
4.If your business is just reacting or treading water or feeling stuck, schedule in a few days for playing and creating again. ✨
5.If you’re spinning all of the plates and you’re feeling it’s not working as you could have spread yourself too thinly with wholesalers, customers or licences follow your gut, you know really if it’s not working and it’s ok to move from that to make an even wilder business! 💥
6.Having your studio as your shop means customers feel they’ve got something more intimate and there’s a story now with each piece💫
7.Meditation doesn’t have to be in the morning, or a quite building, being consistent is more important, find 15 minutes in bed or another room in the house in the evenings even🌙
8.If you're a curious soul and travel is important try and combine this with your business. It can be a blast! 🌍

"Being In between” is an acclaimed photographic series of portraits with recorded interviews of girls aged between ten and twelve, exploring the complex transition between childhood and young adulthood. Carolyn Mendelsohn has been working on the evolving project for over six years and it arises from her own memories of being this age and the desire to give a voice and faces to the young women who inevitably must pass through these mysterious hinterlands on their journey towards adulthood. During this time Carolyn has completed over ninety portraits and interviews to produce a legacy project that is representative portrait of our time.
One of the awards Carolyn won for this exhibition was a gold medal of her picture of 11 year old Alice Ackroyd in royal photographic society’s international print exhibition! This one out of 57 countries and 5,500 entries and is one of 100 selected to tour and two of her other portraits from this collection were shortlisted too!
That’s not the only reason Carolyn spoke to us though.
‘Through Our Lens’ is Carolyn’s latest project with is amazing! Carolyn has been mentoring groups of young people aged 13-18 documenting Covid 19 in the Bradford area.

Neil Clark is a children’s book illustrator, he’s just this month completed his 12th book! Neil used to be a designer at Hallmark's Tigerprint studio, but when his first book which was a passion project for his friend's app took off, he got approached by an agent and it sold thousands internationally!
Neil decided to ask to drop a day in his full time day job, which led to two days and now he and his illustrator wife both took the leap to go freelance with a small baby in tow!
We talk about his character designs process, his need for side hustles and the importance of this.
His clients include Crayola publishes, Quartoe publishing, Oxford university press, Usbourne publishing, Walker books igloo publishing and Marks and Spencer
Neil’s Takeaways -
1.If you have a strong desire for change, asking your day job if you can drop one day a week is a great first step.
If you learn Better from people and end your freelance maybe a shared studio space would help.
It’s great to take on work that you like but it’s important to keep on with self directed briefs to show your agent of boss what other styles, you can do
Setting the time for an art date each week which isn’t your working day to try new skills and styles
Doodling random ideas in your sketchbook each day really does
your ideas come from the doing and keeping on sketching, creating each day.
If you have a side project at home you can handle a knock at work if you’ve have another creative outlet. It’s a great coping mechanism. It can give you confidence that you aren’t just relaying on
Childhood Stories stay with us forever, so remember the magic and power you have as an illustrator you’re needing motivation

We talk about the steep learning curve for Pete leaving a full time job in media as a producer for the BBC to working at home with his partner and then of course Covid happened. This was recorded in week 3 so at a really scary time. So it’s interesting to hear how we were at that time too!
But even at the worst time of lock down we talking about the way the business was already set up to work remotely and what their plans are for future.

Holly and Pete’s takeaways -
1.Going from one man band to working with your partner is a massive change so it’s important to tap into each other’s strengths and to have those clear separations

4.It’s important to keep trying new ways and not be afraid, if it doesn’t work you move on.
5.Downtime helps to get inspired again
6.Whatever you’re feeling this time is not insignificant, it's worth paying attention.

Sheree joins us this week to talk about her brand Whimsy Kaleidoscope.
You will love to see her colourful, fun and sparkly brand, but you will also love to hear Sheree's story too, not only is her wonderful brand just under 4 years old, but she also has a day job too. Students and creatives I coach often say they don’t feel successful or like they can make it work at all fully if they keep their day job for another year. So I know you’re going to love hearing how Sheree navigates it all.
Sheree is Australian too so we talk about how strong the design market is over there and why that is. We talk about licensing and collaborations, and how to not feel overwhelmed and how to keep in your lane, free from the evil comparison gods!
Sheree's takeaways -
1.Having a day job alongside your business can work really well, there are so many benefits to this!
2.Collaborations are brilliant, try to approach product labels or makers to work with. Especially local!
3.Stop worrying about what others are doing!
4.Things don’t happen overnight.
5.Run your own race and stay focus and in your lane
6.Imposter syndrome is something we should be feeling
7.We don’t have a lot of time here so make it count
8.Be ethical and be proud of what you’re doing.

7.Connection and community’s are so important.
8.Keep editing and mastering your pieces to be published, they take time and it's a competitively different process and art form to it bring performed.

Chris Chinnock specialises in Social enterprise, he goes across the U.K supporting and advising new businesses, community startups and organisations.
Chris has worked for over 20 years both for the public sector and the last few years presenting strategies and support with his own success business.
So initially - literally a couple of weeks before Covid 19 I wanted Chris on because he’s multi passionate!
Chris thrives in this game, and you can tell it’s his passion, he’s a wealth of knowledge and inspiration however, like many creatives he also has another passion which is his photography business.
So I wanted him initially to speak about that and what that can mean as a multi passionate.
But of course then all of this Covid hit and credit to how much of a pro Chris is, he intimately connected me and said creatives will want advice on long term strategies with diversifying business offers going forward for the next 18 months which is brilliant! And of course so needed for us all.
Chris’s Takeaways
1.Treat covid 19 as a permanent change for your business
2.There are so many positives for our communities going forward.
3.Diversify your business offers.
4.Building trust, building relationships, building connections is key.
6.Use your creativity to see ways to diversify.
7.Inspiration doesn’t just stick, you have to create it!
8.Be intentional!
9.Look at this as a business owner and think what could be more meaningful with how I show up for my audience for a permanent business.
10.There will be times when it’s just not fun!
11.Treat it as work, show up on every level, or hire people to do it.
12.What would be meaningfully long term with your offer, and make that permanent.

Beverly Hopwood was head of print design for George (Wallmart UK) for along time, before creating a life of freelance designing from her beautiful home studio. Bev designs directly with the retailer rather than selling her own work through online shop’s or agents. Bev’s designs range across homeware, fashion and greetings so her 25 years experience is invaluable.
Her designs can be found in Waitrose, Marks & Spencer’s, Tesco’s, George, Sainsbury’s, Matalan, Peacocks, lilly & Sid, Card Factory, Hallmark, Paperchase.
So here are Bev’s takeaways -
2.Have an ‘It will be alright attitude!’ this might need practice for some of us so keep trying.
3.Don’t let on to clients you don’t know how to do the thing, you learn as you go. That’s not fake it tell you make it. It’s confidence! And a can do attitude.
5.End product is surplus to some extent so, concentrate on your ranges, and looks rather than the end product. Scale and colour tweaks can be made later. Illustrations can be put on to anything!
Learn to be flexible. It’s a muscle so keep trying!
Adapt and set yourself new styles
Frankenstein it! I won’t forget that term ha!
If you love variety in briefs, then strive to work for different markets, tailor designs for those companies to keep you inspired.

Sarah Ward (GingerBred)shares her valuable experience of how to pivot into a new design market, the world of Children’s Books.
Sarah’s been a successful illustrator for over 15 years, but even with an impressive portfolio of designs published for Hallmark, Ukgreetings, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Clinton’s, Pigment, Partisan Products & Philips AVENT to name a few, Sarah still felt nervous approaching a new industry. Sarah shares with us the steps she took to become a successful children’s book illustrator.
Sarah's Takeaways:
1.If you’re giving up your day job or trying pivot, take a part time job or job that’s not too taxing so you can transition as smoothly as possible.
3 Try to have a creative support network, this can be virtual or a meet up. It’s important to be with like minded people.
5.If there’s a part of your business you’re struggling with, it’s ok to outsource!
If you’re pitching to a new industry, send a variety of styles tailored to this market.
Do your research with book agencies to see if your style would fit.
Self doubt is normal!

Kim is a healer, Reiki but also a colouring book healing coach.
Kim has been through so much in her years, she had asthma since a toddler, having 3 inhalers a day. She also had a huge 5 hour operation for endometriosis finding a huge tumour, a few years later aged 40, Kim had an extreme case of bacterial phenomena, she was hospitalised and off work for months.
This was all nearly 20 years ago and she hasn’t had a single pill inhaler or any medication since!
Kim's drastically changed her fast lane high powered life to one that’s calm and centred and free from medication for extreme life long asthma & allergies! Kim has aligned her health in body, mind and spirit and she started that through art with her own healing journey and created a colouring book business when it all was so new!
She now amongst reiki healing, teaches how to fall in love with yourself and a big one, how to say no!
Kim just took the next step at the time when she had no idea if it was right, trusting the process, she had literally nothing at one point, in a new state no where near family, she had to start over with no idea what to do! Kim just knew colouring was helping her for that moment, that minute that day, not thinking too big, just what felt good at that time. Listening to her inner thoughts, intuition, and her gut, what felt good and nourishing!
Kim’s Takeaways
1.Seeking counselling or any professional help is another form of being healthy and growing
2.Listen to your inner body it, your gut doesn’t lie.
3.Colouring books are great for healing you don’t you don't have to overthink it! It’s just for you!
4.You just need to know the next step
5.Fall in love with yourself, your body and health will thank you for it!
Learn to say no if it’s not serving you, you’re not going to help others if your cup isn't filled up.
You can’t think a negative of someone that’s not already in yourself!
Shift negative thoughts to compassion
Stories and laughter always get you through.
