With Sam's move to broadcasting pro ball, we're hanging up the microphones -- at least for a while. To send us off into the extended hiatus sunset, we sat down with some of our favorite friends and guests in a jam-packed final episode. This is easily the longest episode we've done, so get ready for nearly three hours of mostly remembering guys.

There's been almost dead silence about it over the holidays, and this week we dive into what we know and try to make sense out of it.

Kodai Senga is officially a Met. He seems very fun. We're thrilled.
And the Mets just don't stop. Although they didn't land Carlos Correa, Steve Cohen's 11th-hour bid to bring yet another star to Queens had us feeling some type of way. He just doesn't stop.
That now includes Omar Narvaez. We chatted about how he fits into the Mets' catching plans and if this indicates something about Francisco Alvarez to us. We go galaxy brain. Perhaps even a little Shohei Ohtani forecasting as a result of our galaxy brains.

Mike is a very smart dude. He chatted with us about a variety of topics. We broke down the Mets decision to not make any 40-man roster adds (no, not even "prospect" Jake Mangum) ahead of Tuesday's Rule V protection deadline. We also talked about the addition of righty Stephen Ridings on waivers from the Yankees and the lack of trades the Mets made despite rumors they were engaged with the Rays ahead of that deadline.

What Mets doing?
Good wins in Milwaukee and Oakland led the Mets to a 4-2 week despite the Worst Start Jacob deGrom Has Ever* Had. That's ok. We're not worried about our lanky legend just yet. We talked about it.

The Mets still lead the NL East. As of recording the lead stood at 1.5 games. It will either be 1 or 2 depending on how the Braves fair on Monday while the Mets are off to return home from Oakland. The Magic Number stands at 8 with 8 to play. Just keep winning, boys. Friday, the Mets start that big series in Atlanta. That might decide the division. We're nervous.
Pete Alonso broke a longstanding Mets' record. It was cool. We also broke down the Aaron Judge-AppleTV hooplah. It's a fun listen this week.

The Mets are good. They won four of six this week and took series from both the Pirates and Marlins. They did (briefly) fall out of first place, but the Braves coughed two games up in the standings immediately thanks to some friends in the Pacific Northwest. While Starling Marte is hurt, the offense is clicking again and the pitching has been alright outside of some questionable bullpen usage by Buck. Also Mark Vientos is here and Darin Ruf is bad still, so, sure.
About 55 minutes into this episode, we literally just start reacting to the end of Sunday's wild Braves/Mariners game. It's a lot of fun and even though you probably know what happened in that game, we hope you find entertainment value in our reactions.

The Astros are good, and so are the Mets. However, this week, the Astros made the Mets look bad. Round two in New York this week with Justin Verlander due Wednesday!
Also, the Mets could've swept the Marlins if not for literally any timely hitting on Sunday. A series win is a series win is a series win, so shrug emoji.
Despite a down week, things are looking fine in Metsland. Max Scherzer is set for (hopefully) one more rehab start before rejoining the staff.
We track the Mets' offense. It struggled a bit this week. Pete Alonso is still really, really good, providing hope for dad-bod havers everywhere. Jeff McNeil should probably be on the IL with his hamstring deal, but we'll believe the Mets in saying that it's minor (for now, until he's inevitably IL'd too late).
We also talk about that pesky catcher's position. It's been a black hole offensively, but can the Mets survive that thanks to good defense? Are there any replacements they can trade for? Is there a viable replacement hitting the crap out of the baseball in Binghamton right now? All questions we provide answers to.
We also take a look at the trade market in general and the directions the Mets can go in at the deadline.
Plus, as usual we remember some guys. This week: a once-heralded Met youth with a timely Houston connection and an outfielder's who's very mention infuriated Sam.

We are back! After a week off to selfishly celebrate finishing our undergraduate studies, your favorite angsty baseball post-grads are back to chat about the ever-changing landscape of those New York Mets.
Listen, they're still a good baseball team. Perhaps, even a great one. Though they lost their first series of the year since last we spoke (damn you, Mariners, for sending down Jarred Kelenic to prevent the Brodie Bowl from happening and then beating us two-of-three while we celebrated with our families), but still went 5-2 this week to the Cardinals and Rockies. They head to San Fran next to kick off a potentially-harrowing 22-game stretch that also includes the Phillies, Dodgers, Padres, Angels, and Brewers.
Even with a good week on-field there's some dreck to wade through off it. Max Scherzer needs a fresh oblique. He's out for 6-8 weeks or more. We're bummed. Michael Kay made some real dumb comments about Gary, Keith, and Ron. Josh Donaldson made some real dumb racist comments directly to Tim Anderson's face.
Praise be to Luis Guillorme, Bench Goat.
And, on this week's Guy Remembering: an unlikely hero who sacrificed life and limb in the "bigged gimme at bat" of all time and a pitcher with an affinity for putting his hand in a place it doesn't belong.

The Mets STILL haven't lost a series after splitting with Atlanta and taking 2/3 in a rain-shortened Philly series this weekend. That's nine straight series, no series losses. They've won 20 games in their first 30, are the first 20-win team in MLB, and the seventh team in franchise history to start with 20 or more wins in 30 games. It's been a hell of a ride.
Also, they came back and won a game on Friday that they trailed by six runs entering the ninth inning. That absolutely rocked.

Speaking of those Giants, they come to town for four games this week. They'll face a Mets team that leads the World in starting pitching ERA (1.07 through 10 games is a record since earned runs became a tracked stat in 1913, thanks friend of the pod Michael Mayer for that nugget). They'll face a Mets team that is without Mark Canha and Brandon Nimmo, who both have Covid, but is hitting nonetheless. Lindor, Marte, Alonso, McNeil, and Escobar have all been fabulous of late.

Welcome to 2022! To ring in the new year, we have brought on our first repeating guest: the incomparable Dylan Hornik!
Despite the beefy runtime (similar to last week's pod with Abigail Noy, go check it out if you haven't), this episode with Dylan is pretty straightforward. Given that it's 2022, we stepped into the time machine and traveled a decade back by unpacking the wild 2012 Mets' season, which is now a whole ten years old!

In this game, we take a player ripe for remembering and each of us guess if his OPS+ (a stat weighing offensive production above the league average, valued at 100; 110 is 10% above league average) is higher or lower than Omar Vizquel career mark of 82, a paltry 18% below average. We've got a point system and everything, and at the end, Sam, Dylan, or Jack is crowned a champion. Don't miss it.

We're thrilled to welcome Nick Davis onto the podcast. Davis is the director and producer of Once Upon a Time in Queens, the recent four-part ESPN 30-for-30 documentary on the 1986 Mets.
Davis joins us around the 21-minute mark and talks about the series with us. He discusses his film background and how he's previously crossed the intersection between documentaries and sports. He also talks about his vision for the project, how his own Mets fandom occasionally clouded his judgement during production, and shares some of the stories that were left on the cutting room floor. Nearly half of the series' original rough cut was cut due to runtime restrictions! There's lots more stories to share.
Before he joined us, we talked about the Mets' elimination from postseason contention, Noah Syndergaard's brief return, Jacob deGrom's official shutdown, and catch up on the playoff races around the league.

The Mets won a series. After the Giants swept them at home to start the week, the Mets finished out with two straight to take a series from the lowly Nationals. There was offense! Timely hitting! Dingers! It was good.
However, it seems to be the last thing on Mets fans' minds heading into the new week. The team's new thumbs down celebration appears to be directed at the fans who have booed the Mets' underperforming players all season. Javy Báez' postgame comments lit a flaming discourse that burned deep into the night. It sucked. We talked about it.

To celebrate, we have an absolutely loaded episode for you. The front half is fairly normal PGE stuff. We talk about the roadtrip out west - and it's not all negative this time. There's some positives to break down. Specifically, coming home off a win, having Javy back with Lindor following in short order, and Marcus Stroman continuing to shove every fifth day.
And let's not get too hopeful yet, but after the Giants series this week, the Mets play four consecutive series against the Nationals and Marlins. 7 back in both the division and wild card races isn't an impossible task with over a month of play left. Let's get weird with the toughest stretch nearly behind us.

The fun part of the week was when the Mets swept the Nationals. Pete Alonso hit a walk-off homer! It was fun!
Then they got swept by the (much better) Dodgers at home. It was rough. We've been feeling a little pessimistic about the way the team is feeling again, and we feel like we're justified. We break down what turned out to be a pretty ugly series, especially on the results-side.
The offense still isn't clicking. They can't hit for power. They can't hit with guys on.
The pitching staff has been pretty good, but without deGrom at the top, it feels much more hollow.
It's make-or-break time. 10 more games against the Giants and Dodgers including a week-long stay on the west coast. By this time next week, we may be ready to eulogize the season.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

The Mets have lost six of seven and fallen to third place in the division. While we do care about that, things around the Mets have been really, really depressing lately. So, after a brief, 20-minute conversation about some of the baseball stuff, we welcome Mets minor league reliever Tom Hackimer onto the pod!
Tom is in Triple-A Syracuse right now slinging filth from the side. The Mets originally drafted him out of St. John's in 2015, and though he didn't sign, he made his way to the Mets earlier this season after being cut from the Twins organization. He's become a friend to us over the last couple of months, so it was a natural fit to get him onto PGE.
With him, we talk about his origin story in becoming a sidearmer (something we also asked the other two sidearmers we've had on the pod). We talk about how awful a city Binghamton is in his eyes, how to manage a workload when so many arms are moving between 'Cuse and the Big Leagues, and how he feels about potentially being on the doorstep to the Majors.

The Mets are good. Many people are saying it. You're hearing it more and more. The Yankees....not so great...and that makes us happy.
In keeping with July 4th traditions, the Mets lit some fireworks against Gerrit Cole and Aroldis Chapman and took a series from the Yankees. After dropping three of four in Washington and Atlanta to start the week, it was very much needed. We recap the week and revel in laughing at our cross-town rivals.
We also look ahead. Three against a hot Brewers club and four against a very bad Pirates club lead into the All-Star break. The pitching is in bad shape without David Peterson, but we think they can survive until the break.
We also took our first real look at the trade market and pondered the age old baseball question: which of these good baseball dudes do we want on our team on August 1st.
Then, we talked about Trevor Bauer. We'll leave it at that.

The Mets started by taking three straight from the Cubs, but ended the week losing four of five, including three of four to the Nationals. No more Kyle Schwarber, ever again please.

The Mets took two of three from the Padres to win the season series, and yet it doesn't really feel that way. A winnable game got away from Luis Rojas and the Mets on Sunday while looking for a sweep. Rojas mismanaged his taxed bullpen and went to his worst arm in a tied game with the bases loaded and Fernando Tatis batting. It went about as poorly as you might expect. It's the big storyline of the week, and we break it down.
David Peterson starts tonight against the Cubs looking to rebound after back-to-back awful outings in Arizona and Baltimore. After a brutal loss on Sunday, the Mets need Dave Pete to play stopper and turn his skid around.
But it's not all negatives for the Mets. James McCann is Good now. Francisco Lindor looks like himself. Pete Alonso is back to hitting nukes. Jacob deGrom, despite his injury concerns, is still superhuman. Listen to us break it all down, from the good to the bad to the ugly. And of course, as always, we remember some guys to close it out.

We can call one game a sweep, right?
Well, the Mets were supposed to play more baseball this week, but three rainouts cut into the week's schedule. Regardless, they took three of four from the Rockies and demolished the Braves in the lone weekend game to end the homestand on a nice four-game win streak. They've got the D-Backs and Padres on the road this week, and it looks like some reinforcements are on the way.

We took a week off to focus on finishing school, but we are BACK! The Mets on the other hand...they need some more time. Everyone is hurt and the active team looks a little more like the Syracuse Mets. But they're staying afloat, so that's all we can really ask...for now.
Beyond the Mets, their injuries, and their injury replacements, we also talk about the White Sox and Tony La Russa. We're upset about that. Tune in and listen.

Then, Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil possibly fought and Patrick Mazeika played hero on Friday. But there were also rodents involved, or so we were told. Then the team swept Arizona but deGrom is still hurt. There is a lot going on.

What a difference a week makes, Mets fans! The team is looking so, so much better than when last we spoke to you. In a week that included three more postponements, the Mets rattled off five wins in six tries including three out of four wins in doubleheader games. We break down why this team has started to turn it around. Spoiler alert: it's the pitching.
But before we jump into that, we have to talk about the Athletic article that shed some light on the Mets' front office. We give you guys are nuanced take on Sandy Alderson's role with the front office given his involvement in the rehiring of someone multiple women asked him not to rehire.
Once we deal with that, we get to talk baseball, and it was a fun week in Mets baseball. Jacob deGrom is on another planet right now and we may be witnessing a historic season as a result.
Marcus Stroman has also been fantastic, just like he was on Sunday in Denver.
Taijuan Walker and David Peterson have each flashes excellence as well. Oh, and by the way, reinforcements are on their way soon with Carlos Carrasco coming back soon and Noah Syndergaard not terribly far behind him.

It seems hard to believe, but the Mets did actually play baseball this week. Your favorite youthful podcasters are here to break down the first official week of Mets baseball in 2021...and it was a doozy.
The Mets won twice and they lost thrice. It was a frustrating week for a variety of reasons. One such reason was the lack of support, both offensively and in the bullpen, for Jacob deGrom. We're used to it, but for some reason we hoped it would be different this year. It's not.
We're also frustrated because no one seems to be able to hit, especially with men on base. We talk about our worries regarding the offense and specifically Michael Conforto. Spoiler: we're not very worried.
But we are kind of worried about Luis Rojas. We're not fans of his managerial style so far this year. You're going to want to stick around for our conversation about the Mets manager.

We start by breaking down the Francisco Lindor extension and the wide range of emotions we felt by going from the high of the extension to the low of Opening Day getting canceled for our boys in blue and orange.

Pleasant Good Evening is back! This time it's episode nine with MetsMerized's very own Tim Ryder! Jack (@jackhendon_) and I (@SamLebo14) welcome Tim to the party as we discuss Dodgers v. Rays and Mets playoff memories.
