Message one in a study of Titus. Pastor Robert Rohlin takes the four verses before Paul even says hello and shows how the gospel frames both a life and a letter. Four movements carry it: the Messenger (a servant of God and apostle of Jesus Christ), the Mission (the faith of God's elect and the acknowledging of the truth), the Message (eternal life promised before the world began), and the Mentee (Titus, mine own son after the common faith). A small letter with a large agenda, and a call to sound doctrine.

Part two on the spiritual role of the father, from Genesis 19. Pastor Robert Rohlin walks the anatomy of backsliding through Lot: it begins with the eyes, follows a gradual decline, takes hold when we tolerate wrong, masks itself with outward piety, costs us spiritual awareness and a servant's heart, persuades us we can separate private morality from public life, puts our children in harm's way, and breeds a judgmental spirit. Lot lost his discernment, his family, and his usefulness to God. The cure is Jeremiah 3:22 - return to Me, you backsliders, and I will heal your backsliding. NOTE: the camera was started late, so this recording begins a few minutes into the message.

A Mother's Day message from 2 Kings 4:8-37 on the Shunammite woman - a mother the Bible never names, whose character is unforgettable. Pastor Robert Rohlin traces a godly mother's love as discerning, serving, tender, persistent, and anchored in the God who gives life. She made room for God's work, she served without being asked, and when her son died she would not let go until she had laid hold of the prophet and of God.

Pastor Robert Rohlin opens Genesis 18-19 and asks how much the spiritual leadership of a father actually matters. Three visitors appear to Abraham - one recognized as the LORD - and Sarah is promised a son within the year. Then the men turn toward Sodom, and Abraham intercedes, a prayer he is often criticized for but which bears a closer look. Set against Abraham stands Lot, the backslidden father whose choices cost him his family. The Hebrew shacah appears here for the first time in Scripture.

Part two of Keeping the Big Picture. Pastor Robert Rohlin picks up the theme - trade the immediate for the eternal - and works back through the people who narrowed their focus and paid for it: Eve, persuaded by a half-truth that never delivered what it promised; David, who protected Nabal's shepherds and then wanted payment, and who saw Bathsheba from the palace roof. Woven through are 45 years of marriage, a firehouse chaplaincy, and the plain point that every blessing you have was given, not earned. The close asks what distraction is keeping you from what God wanted.

Part one of a two-part message on focus. Pastor Robert Rohlin argues that sin works by narrowing our vision - Satan helps us zoom in on one thing to the exclusion of eternity, and a consequential life is traded for a momentary desire. Nine biblical examples carry the point: Peter guarding his reputation at Antioch, Martha stressed over being the perfect hostess, David wanting Bathsheba, Achan burying gold beneath his tent, Hezekiah trusting treaties, and the prodigal son of Luke 15 who wanted his things and wanted them now.

Resurrection Day 2026. Pastor Robert Rohlin walks the hours of the crucifixion - Gethsemane, the trials, the scourging, the medical reality of what killed Jesus - and then turns the corner on S. M. Lockridge's refrain: it's Friday, Pilate is washing his hands and Satan is dancing a jig, but it's only Friday, and Sunday's coming. The angel rolls the stone away and says He is not here, He is risen. The message closes on John 1:12 and the difference between believing about Jesus and receiving Him.

A Good Friday message from Hebrews 2. Pastor Robert Rohlin traces the necessity of the cross through three movements - the suffering that secured salvation, the humiliation and substitution of Christ, and His exaltation. Christ was not concerned with angels but with the descendants of Abraham, and so He took on flesh to taste death for every man. Set against the Passover lamb in Exodus and the veil torn from top to bottom, the message closes where the hymn does: the cross demands a response.

Part one of Your Faith on Trial. Pastor Robert Rohlin opens Numbers 13-14, where twelve men scout the land God had already promised and ten come back convinced the giants are bigger than God. Borrowing Dave Ramsey's line - when you do stupid, you reap desperate - the message anatomizes little faith: a limited perspective that makes obstacles look decisive, murmuring and inaction, a longing for the good old days of slavery, and a retreat into mediocrity. It closes on Mark 11:22 and the better reading of that verse - have the faith of God, not merely faith in God.

Part one of a two-part message on perfect peace. Pastor Robert Rohlin walks through Genesis 14 - the first recorded war in Scripture - where four eastern kings sweep down the King's Highway, the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fall into the slimepits of the Valley of Siddim, and Lot is carried off. Abram arms his household, rescues his nephew, is blessed by Melchizedek, and then refuses every reward Sodom offers him. Set against Psalm 46 and Isaiah 26, the question is where a believer's peace actually comes from when armies are on the move.

A fresh treatment of 2 Peter 3, preached in 2026 - the same ground as the 2020 series message, revisited. Pastor Robert Rohlin reads all thirteen verses and works through Peter's answer to the scoffers who ask where the promise of His coming is. Believers remember the Lord's return, scoffers laugh at it, God guarantees it, and our behavior is changed by it. The world that once perished by water is now reserved for fire, and the delay is not slackness but patience, because God is not willing that any should perish.

Part one of a two-part study in Psalm 32. Pastor Robert Rohlin traces David's psalm of confession back to the rooftop of the palace and asks what guilt is actually for - not a weight to be carried, but a mercy that drives a believer to confession. Drawing on Bill Crowder, Psalm 1 and Proverbs 28:13, the message distinguishes happiness built on temporal things from the blessedness of the man whose transgression is forgiven, and closes on God as our hiding place.

The turkey isn't necessary, but Thanksgiving is! We all meet for food, fellowship, feasting, and football on Thanksgiving Day. But if that is all we do, we miss the real benefit. Maybe it is because we do not understand that when we thank God, it brings six distinct benefits to us. You might call this sermon, "Thanksgiving: What's in it for me?" Pastor Robert Rohlin covers the benefits of Thanksgiving and shows that it is, in reality, a practical spiritual weapon we cannot live without. We often do not feel like thanking God, and that is the exact time that we need Thanksgiving the most!

Years ago the Shell Oil Company published inserts that came inside the Reader's Digest magazine and provided useful tips to drivers. Pastor Robert Rohlin reads each of these insights to show how their spiritual application comes directly from David's prayer in Psalm 51

Pastor Robert Rohlin examines Daniel's dream in Daniel 7 and shows what will be happening in Europe during the end times and how you can see Europe's recent history carrying out Daniel's prophecy. In one respect, it is frightening to see how Europe and other parts of our world are being set up to make way for the reign of the antichrist. But in another way, we can take comfort that God has already told us the future and is preparing our hearts to share Christ with others while we still have time.

In this sermon, he uncovers a mathematical difference about the age of a patriarch between Old and New Testament accounts and how it reveals to us that we can lose our spiritual legacy when we fail to obey God or take a detour from His revealed will. It is critical in this era that fathers take seriously their responsibility to lead their families to follow the Lord without detour or compromise.

This sermon concludes with the powerful story of Edith -Easter- Burns -- a godly woman from San Antonio TX who is now in the presence of Christ. Paul really loves the Tessalonians. So, with fatherly concern, he encourages them repeatedly to hold on to the truth and stand firm. One of the problems today though is that so few church members are skilled at identifying truth. They get deluded by religions that incorporate human tradition and trust that equally or even more than the Word of God. But only the written revelation of Scripture can be our inerrant, infallible, inspired, and imperative rule of faith and practices. Cults and groups that believe human tradition continues to add to revelation -like Catholicism and Greek Orthodoxy- lead to dangerous conclusions on a foundation of shifting sand. Only the Word of God is the bedrock on which we should base our lives. Pastor Robert Rohlin takes a careful look at what Paul means when he encourages the Thessalonian Christians to stand firm in the traditions that they were taught. It clearly is a reference to apostolic teaching before the written Word was available. But he cautions them against the -traditions- of others because false teachers had already tried to pervert the faith of the Thessalonians. This message is preached in a spirit of love to plead with others to only accept a church or teachings that base all doctrines SOLELY on the Word of God with no mixture of church tradition or human philosophy.

One of the most often-argued theological concepts is the role of God's election and man's free will in determining who will go to heaven. Some people go to one extreme of claiming that man's free will has no role and that if God choosed you to be saved, you will be saved. Another group claims it is all about the free will of man and that God's calling has nothing to do with it. However, the fact is that Scripture teaches both the choice or election of God and the free will of man have a part in salvation. Pastor Robert Rohlin explains how marriage reflects this mutual choice where God chooses us but we must also choose Jesus Christ. This sermon is not a comprehensive treatment of these issues, because Pastor Robert Rohlin confines the focus to this passage in 2 Thessalonians 2-13-17. Someone once said, -Man proposes, but God disposes.- Another has said, -The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.- We make lots of plans, and most of them fail. One of the reasons is that our plans fail to include God's perspective. So how do we plan as Christians- After all, to fail to plan is to plan to fail. We have to keep God as part of the decision-making process. Pastor Robert Rohlin discusses this important concept as he continues our study of the book of James. Pastor Robert Rohlin is the teaching pastor at First Baptist Church Las Colinas, a family-integrated church in the Baptist Missionary Association. It is somewhat odd that a sermon on marriage should be preached on October 31 -- the day that shares 2 important connotations. The world celebrates Halloween which in its most innocent form has children wearing masks and begging for candy. But in marriage, we often wear masks to either manipulate a spouse or to fool those outside the marriage into thinking everything is OK when our spouse knows better. And we tend to want to be -treat-ed- in just a certain way and in our self-centeredness, we focus our actions and words on getting that treatment. October 31 is also known as Reformation Day by many Christians to celebrate Martin Luther's nailing of his 95 points of disagreement with Catholic theology. Many historians point to this act as the start of the Protestant Reformation. And if anything needs a reformation today, it is our society's sit-com idea of marriage and how that viewe is now pervasive even among God's people. In this message, Pastor Rohlin discusses what it means to be the right spouse for your marriage to succeed.

Every marriage has challenges as 2 people with different personalities, key words, attitudes, backgrounds, and a plethora of other differences try to live together. For Christians who have entered a marriage vow, we can really struggle if we think that marriage should always be roses and candlelight dinners and then the reality of living slaps us in the face. We need to understand the real reason that marriage exists and what its purpose is. Marriage is NOT an institution made by man, but a gift from the Lord. Pastor Robert Rohlin discusses some fresh insights inspired by his recent reading of John Piper's book -This Momentary Marriage.-

Pastor Robert Rohlin on the Sunday before Thanksgiving preaches a somewhat-unorthodox sermon on Thanksgiving. He focuses in on the meaning in Numbers 11-1 where God judges the sin of complaining. There are a lot of words for that sin- murmuring, whining, griping, belly-aching, being a sore-head. Basically complaining is a sin for 3 reasons which Pastor Rohlin explains. Complaining prevents Thanksgiving. In the next sermon, he covers reasons for which we should thank God. But in this sermon, it turns out that perhaps we are all guilty of complaining from time to time. But do you know just how seriously God reacts to this sin- Prayerfully listen to determine if this is an attitude - action that you need to eliminate from your life.

James poses a rhetorical challenge. -You say you have faith. Fine, show me your faith without showing me your works. But I'll show you my faith by my works.- God can see our hearts. But men can only see the difference that Christ makes in our lives as He affects a change in our behavior and demeanor. Our actions become the barometer that shows whether our faith is real. To illustrate this, two people are put on trial for their faith -- Abraham and Rahab. One is the patriarch of the Jews who demonstrates amazing obedience while the other is a Canaanite prostitute who responds imperfectly but sincerely to her faith in Jehovah. When your actions are weighed, does the evidence convict you of being a Christian- Pastor Robert Rohlin is the executive pastor at First Baptist Church Las Colinas, a family-integrated church in the Baptist Missionary Association. James makes it clear in his epistle that real faith cannot coexist with favoritism or racism. Both are contradictory to the very nature of the Gospel message. James chides his readers for sometimes showing favor to a rich person over a poor person. The reality is that Jesus didn't even have a place to lay his head at night. He would have identified better with the poor person in his earthly ministry. Today, racism is ever more rampant and is promoted by the very people who should have willingly embraced the meaning of the -I Have a Dream- speech by Dr. Martin Luther King. These people use racism to promote a political agenda. But the Kingdom of God is promoted by showing love to all without respect of persons. Pastor Robert Rohlin explains why Martin Luther was mistaken in his view that James should not be in the Scriptural canon. Paul and James both refer to works but refer to 2 different things. Paul refers to -works of the law- meaning the keeping of Jewish laws. Paul and James are not in conflict at all, but looking at 2 different aspects of our faith. In the New Testament, -crowns- are often used to refer to our eternal rewards that in heaven become the offerings the saints lay down before the throne of God as an act of worship. In this passage, James mentiones one of the 4 crowns defined in the New Testament -- the crown of life. That crown is related to our response to trials and testings. There are 3 essential requirements for us to past the tests of our trials. We must ask for wisdom with unwavering faith -the subject of the preceding message-. Then we must maintain steadfast hope on our eternal assets and position with Christ. Pastor Robert Rohlin begins a new verse-by-verse exposition series of the epistle of James. The author was the half-brother of Jesus Christ and the head of the Jerusalem church. This book was written between A.D. 45-48 and is the earliest book of the New Testament. While Paul taught that before God, salvation is by faith in Christ alone, James taught that before men, our salvation is only evident by our behavior. God sees the heart, but men see our works. This is the most imperative book of the New Testament with 54 imperative verbs in 108 verses -- an average of 1 command every 2 verses- We have much to learn from this short epistle. In this fifth and final message from the book of Habakkuk, the prophet gives reasons why he will choose to praise the Lord regardless of how bad things get for his nation or his personal life. He resolves to praise God because God is always worthy of praise even when we do not understand why He allows certain things to come into our lives. Why did a loved one die- Why is one of your children autistic- Why is another child straying from the faith- These are questions impossible to answer without an eternal perspective. - But Habakkuk remembering the great works of God in the past resolves to praise Him in the future no matter what happens. In spite of all circumstances testifying to the contrary, God is always worthy of praise. After God answers Habakkuk's first question by telling Habakkuk that the wicked Babylonians were coming to judge Judah, the prophet is left confused. How can a holy God use a wicked foreign nation to judge the people of God- Many Christians are left wondering today how politicians that have committed corruption and fraud are left unpunished. Recent events also so massive fraud by hedge funds in shorting AMC and Game Stop. How are hedge funds able to get away with things that should be illegal and are definitely unethical- And yet, they received no real consequences. Habakkuk first praises God for being eternal, holy, and righteous. But then he asks God to explain how a holy God could use a wicked people to accomplish his will. In the wake of a hotly contested election fraught with fraud, Pastor Robert Rohlin searches the Scriptures for a biblical perspective on Christians living in a corrupt society. The search leads to Habakkuk. The prophet asks God a series of questions. In this introductory message, Habakkuk asks God, -Why aren't you doing something about all the evil corruption around me-- God answers this question by affirming that He will judge and chasiste Judah for their corruption and that He will use the ungodly and cruel Chaldeans -Babylonians- to do so. This answer will prompt the other questions that spark a dialoge between Habakkuk and his God throughout the rest of the book. In 2 Peter 2-17-22, Peter talks about the wake of destruction left by false teachers. There are different types of false teachers and the results are different on believers and unbelievers. This message helps us understand a key truth -- that every thought of man should be tested against the Word of God. Men are fallible- God's Word is not. Even noted Christian writers such as C.S. Lewis had major theological flaws refuted by the Word of God. So spiritual discernment is needed to sort the good from the bad. Peter also gives us 2 examples of God saving out His own people even in the midst of judgment. These stories also demonstrate that God saves imperfect people and keeps them secure even when they truly fail God. Dr. Steven Woodworth teaches a family Bible study on 1 Corinthians 14 and discusses the difficult subject of tongues. It was a gift of speaking in a known language used to confirm to the Jews that they had rejected the Messiah and that the Holy Spirit of God fell upon believers. Then it seems to have devolved into an unknown language and Paul said he would rather speak 1 word of God's truth in a known language than 10,000 in an unknown language. Paul gives guidelines in 1 Corinthians 14 on the use of tongues -- and if believers who claim to have that gift today followed the guidelines, then they would remain silent. In 2 Peter 1-12-17, Peter ties together how the Incarnate Word -- Jesus Christ -- is tied to the Word of God that we have in the Bible. All 66 books of the Bible were written by those who were eyewitnesses of Jesus Christ and His work in the New Testament or eyewitnesses of Jehovah in His dealings with people in the Old Testament. The Scripture canon was closed when the last of the eyewitnesses passed from the scene. Also, Peter knew that he was dying soon, but in this passage is one of the greatest comforts for any funeral service anywhere -- because our exit from this world facilitates a far more glorious entrance into the next phase of our life -- our eternal life -- if we have received Christ. Peter also recounts what he saw on the Mount of Transfiguration. There is a reason that he wanted to build 3 tabernacles that day -- the right idea but with the wrong timing. -That experience made Peter passionate about the subject of the Second Coming of Christ. And it made him passionate to keep on reminding people of the majesty of God's Word. Even more than what Peter saw that day, what he heard made a lasting impression upon him.
