Football Heartbalm ....MY CONCITA by the Four Diegos #footballpassion #Diegos23years @Making_Media
Many people debate whether great players from other eras could emulate their great feats in today's game.
One player who pundits and fans alike all universally agree could be an international star of this era is Argentine-born, former Socceroo Oscar Crino.
Technically gifted with a streak of mongrel, Crino was a shining light of the Socceroos in the Frank Arok Mad Dog era of the 80's.
A player before his time, he could dribble, pass and tackle as well as anyone in the game. His vision was world class and his combativeness was as good as any player who has ever worn the green and gold.
The Diegos caught up with Oscar in 2010 to chat about his life in football.
Knowing that Crino could have been anything in today game, his respect and passion for his former teammates and his modest appraisal of his own achievements playing for Australia, made this our most humbling interview in 23 years of football radio.
This week the Diegos catch up with Socceroo Jason Davidson in Holland and football journo fo rTHE SUN UK, Mike McGrath.

In 1998 Vinnie Grella departed Australia to embark on his football dream in Italy's renowned SERIE A.
Few had faith he had the talent and ability to make it and many joked that he would be back within a week with his tail between his legs.
Within three weeks though he was man marking the best player on the planet, Zinedine Zidane, in a man of the match performance for Italian football minnows Empoli against the mighty Juventus.
It was a tough initiation for the 19-year-old Grella but one that would set him up for a brilliant 15-year career in Italy matching it against some of the best players in the world.
When the Diegos caught with Vinnie after his 'Zidane experience', we found an Aussie who couldn't quite believe what just happened.

One of our proudest moments ...DIEGOS FLASHBACK Brazil World Club Championships 2000 with Paul Trimboli & Michael Lynch #Diegos23years
In 2000 South Melbourne FC as Oceania Champions earned the right to play in the FIFA World Club Championships. They were drawn against world-renowned Manchester United, plucky and clever Mexican champions Club Necaxa and beloved hometown champions Vasco De Gama featuring world stars Romario and Edmundo.
South Melbourne was tipped for a thrashing in the opener against Vasco by the local media but in a performance that shocked the world only lost 2-0 in a result that flattered the Brazilians.
We caught up with South Melbourne and talisman for the club Paul Trimboli and THE AGE football writer MICHAEL LYNCH in the aftermath of the opening game.
To have one of own clubs from the much-criticised and under-estimated NSL put up such a courageous and competitive showing on the world stage was a proud moment for football lovers in Australia and a great memory for the Diegos.
Enjoy amigos!
Four Diegos Final Whistle post game @SENNEWS show @gomvfc V @PerthGloryFC @Making_Media December 2, 2016
In 1996 things were going well for Frank Farina. He had just arrived home from a stellar overseas career and had been appointed player-coach of Brisbane Strikers, a team he was to lead to an NSL championship in front of a record hometown crowd of over 42,000 people in Brisbane.
When the Diegos spoke to Frank there was no media training or politically correct way of handling radio interviews. Frank was a straight shooter who called a spade a spade and the Four Diegos dagos.
It was the most brutally honest interview the Diegos had conducted in its 23 years of football radio.
Hope you enjoy it amigos.

Johnny Warren never knocked back an invite to speak to the Diegos. In fact within weeks of us starting community radio in 1993 Johnny was happy to speak about the game he loved even though it was to four guys who had no idea about radio and certainly had no clue about the craft of interviewing.
Johnny was to pass away only months after we conducted this interview. He wasn't well when he accepted our invitation to speak to us but that wasn't going to stop him advocating for the game he cherished. It was the last time we spoke to the great man but it was a conversation that Diegos will always keep close to our hearts.
This is Johnny's last chat to the Diegos.

Football Heartbalm ....DON'T TOUCH ME THERE by the FOUR DIEGOS #Diegos23years @Making_Media
In 1997 the Diegos interviewed the most controversial Soccer Australia/FFA boss of our generation, David Hill.
During his reign Hill fought to de-ethnicise the local game in Australia, for Australia to be admitted into the AFC Confederation and to make the game mainstream in this country.
With so much hinging on the Socceroos qualifying for the World Cup in France in 1998, it was an all or nothing strategy for the ultimate change agent who football supporters and NSL club brokers of the time either loved or hated.
For the Diegos it was a big moment ....it's a little-known fact but we were offered the Socceroos' job by Hill and Soccer Australia before Terry Venables was appointed ...here's proof.
Enjoy this Diegos' flashback to 1997 amigos.

DIEGOS FLASHBACK this week takes us to 2009 when we interviewed the enigmatic and enormously talented footballer Ljubo Milicevic live in the studio. Ljubo had just mutually agreed a parting of ways with Melbourne Victory - an acrimonious split that had courted widespread media coverage.
We weren't quite sure how the interview was going to pan out once Ljubo had arrived to the studio barechested carrying a garbage bag full of candy after a day at the beach.
The interview ended up being the most raw, edgy and tense in our over two decades of football radio.
