Weekends On The Water, Official Podcast of the Waterfront Capital Of Texas, returned to the JetSurf Houston Studio this week (4/8/21) to visit of a brew or two with Charlie Carey of Oasis Dock Supply and Oasis Marine Construction. We dove deep into #docklife and discussed a number of brands including Salts Gone, RedtailRepublic, Gotfishexpo, Aqua Lily Products, Sabine Skiffs, Sea Lake Yachts, Wave Armor, Legacy Lifts, Underwater Green Fishing Lights and much more. We pulled a double as the conversation with Charlie came so naturally. Discussed the various boat, fishing and outdoors shows. Special thanks to our last two guests that double as hosts by allowing us to broadcast live from their fabulous facilities. Make sure to catch out last two remote shows at the South Shore Harbour Resort & Conference Center last week (4/2/21) and Texas’ largest Crystal Lagoon at the center of the beautiful 2,000+ acre master planned Lago Mar community the previous week (3/24/21).
Weekends On The Water is pumped to visit with Texas, actually American, Alcohol Pioneer Kelly Railean. Railean, an avid sailor, is a Master Distiller who opened not only the first women-owned, certified "Made in USA" distillery, but the first to produce Handcrafted American Rum and Agave Products to be certified as Made In USA no matter the owner’s gender. In 2005 she launched the only distillery in the Houston/Galveston region and basically re-ignited the American rum industry in the USA and spear-headed the concept of manufacturing specialty, small, handcrafted batches utilizing Grade-A ingredients to compete with the mass-produced spirits companies monopolizing the market. But in addition to leading the American Run Revolution, she pioneered a new category of American spirit made from 100% Blue Agave which rival Mexico's finest tequilas. But the Railean Distillery is not limited to Rum nor Agave and we will dive deep into the growing Railean product line that now covers almost every segment of the liquor business. As a pioneer, Railean was a regular in Austin fighting, lobbying and eventually helping rewrite the Texas liquor laws and regulations. As a result she was able to open the impressive Buccaneer Bar at the distillery, which includes a craft cocktail bar, tasting room, retail store, gift shop and live music venue which only very recently was allowed to re-open following a long shutdown because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Not only will we be able to visit with a guest we have wanted on the show since Day 1, but we will be broadcasting LIVE from the Distillery on the San Leon Peninsula just off the coast of Galveston Bay.
LIVE from Bonez Draught House & Sports Grill above Scout Bar, "Weekends On The Water" was joined by Punkstar RADIO's Khris Harding, Slick Punk Productions' Glen Autrey and singer/songwriter Joe Serrato (Ojos Rojos & Indaskies) for the official Halloween Party & Concert Preview to the Waterfront Capital Of Texas powered by Barge 295! The show dived deep with these veteran promoters/performers to discuss not only all the events happening this special holiday weekend, but how the local Live Music SCENE is bouncing back from a very challenging year to date. Because remember, we at The SCENE Magazine believe music is best consumed LIVE and In Person.
We took the show on the road to the region's only floating tavern (Barge295) and the coolest open-air, waterfront live music venue we've ever seen (The Yard at Barge 295) prominently located on the North Shore of Clear Lake in the heart of the Waterfront Capital of Texas.

Great show with Saltwater-Recon.com President/CEO Urs Schmid as we went almost an hour long and covered everything from a deep dive into the brand behind "Know Before You Go!" offering real-time coastal conditions with a mighty impressive array of live, high definition, interactive web cameras along with expert boating, fishing and weather content aimed at giving visitors the information needed to plan a safe and successful day on the water. We hit on the origin of Saltwater-Recon.com and what the future holds for the state’s largest provider of coastal web cameras. We talked boat shows, boat races, fishing, sailing, Galveston Island and even went off topic into craft beer and liquor laws (while sampling Galveston Island Brewing and Jameson). But possibly the most interesting part off the show was an informative conversation about Galveston’s very underrated Seawolf Park and specifically the Galveston Naval Museum. The museum features one of only three destroyer escorts in the world, the USS Stewart, the remains of the tanker S.S. Selma, the largest concrete ship ever constructed and the a WWII submarine, USS Cavalla, best known for sinking the 30,000 ton Japanese aircraft carrier Shokaku (veteran of Pearl Harbor and Battle of Coral Sea) on her maiden patrol which earned her the Presidential Unit Citation. Schmidt, a board member at the Galveston Naval Museum, even invited us to do a future episode of 'Weekends On the Water' LIVE from the historic Gato class submarine which we look forward to.
Talented touring singer/songwriter/story teller/recording artist, book author and competitive sailor/surfer Marc Borde joined Discovery Channel Galactic Guy & SCENE Magazine Publisher John Ennis and Army veteran, Extreme Watersport Competitor and JET SURF HOUSTON Founder Jordan Davlin in the JetSurf Houston studio along the north shore of Clear Lake in the heart of the Waterfront Capital of Texas for the second Episode of Weekends On The Water. "The Ocean is my Playground. Music is my Passion,” according to the Trinidad & Tobago-born Borde’ whose interest in sailing was sparked after a two-week Caribbean island-hopping adventure at age 13. He quickly picked up as much sailing knowledge and experience as possible and before long was winning regattas, took first place in his Texas youth racing circuit, and was competing nationally on various single-handed racing dinghies. But his plans of one day sailing in the Olympics shifted toward a career in music as he reached young-adulthood. Most recently, Borde toured the country many times over as the front man and namesake of his Reggae/Folk group “That Captain” creating fun, original, dance music with a signature style that “blends reggae, bluegrass and jammy flavors.” Borde has been writing and performing music for years with super popular bands such as “Shark Attack” and “Cassette Tape.” In 2011, he formed a three-person all-star band appropriately named “The Crew” which recorded an album on a 26-foot sailboat before touring 300-miles off the Texas coast on that same boat playing 33 shows in 38 days. Borde authored a special-edition book (CD included) about this one-of-a-kind tour by only boat and bicycles named “Guitar Strings & Sailboat Things” which sold out three press runs. There is a rumor a collector's edition coffee table book version is in the works. Most recently, Borde has been based along the Northern California coast in Humboldt Bay where he has been completing construction of a 55-year-old, 50-foot trimaran that until last year had never touched water for an even more ambitious music tour of the entire planet Earth by boat. Plans for another book and to have this tour televised worldwide are already in motion. Borde is full of experiences from one day hearing his song prominently in a Hollywood movie without his knowledge, to completing a musical tour by sailboat, to being given a basically abandoned unfinished 50-foot trimaran from a French singer following a chance encounter and getting it seaworthy.
For Episode 1 of WEEKENDS ON THE WATER we broadcast on location from the very impressive Jetsurf Houston triple booth smack dab in the middle of the country’s largest indoor boat and travel show, 65th annual Houston International Boat, Sport & Travel Show at Houston’s NRG Center. We started off visiting with Houston International Boat, Sport & Travel Show president Kenny Lovell and previewed what guests could look forward among 700,000 square feet of exhibit space and 1,500 boats and RV’s on site at the show ranging from access to hundreds of industry experts, special deals, family activities and returning favorites including the Fish-O-Rama kids fishing experience, the 4,000-gallon Bass Tub and the Kid’s Build-A-Boat attraction. This year’s show also features plenty of new activities including a craft beer garden, kid’s casting clinics and even special visits from Houston Astros mascot Orbit from 1-2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Then we dove into the next generation of extreme watersports that has arrived in Texas bringing an option for those looking to surf but un-able to find any waves to catch, JetSurf. JetSurf is a lightweight, carbon-fiber, motorized surfboard capable of attaining speeds of 37 miles per hour. Think personal watercraft crossed with a wakeboard, a skate board, add a hint of dirt-slinging, engine-buzzing motorbike, and then multiply it with the understanding you can carry it on your back and take onto a plane to use on vacation.
