Church is so much more than just being in the building on Sunday morning to hear the pastor preach. One of the great parts of being a member of the local body of believers is the opportunity to gather together throughout the week for continued growth and fellowship. It is also a great way to get out into the community. This week Dusty and Elizabeth discuss launching small group studies throughout the week as a way for the members of the church to fellowship and grow together. They also discuss ways to be reaching out to the community to fill needs on little to no budget.
Grab a cup of coffee or tea, and join us as we discuss ways to launch small group ministries and how to reach out to the community with the resources you have.

Evangelism often triggers nervousness, fear, and anxiety in people. This week Dusty and Elizabeth share some thoughts on how they have worked to create a culture of evangelism in their home and family as well as how they are working to lead the congregation they serve in to be more evangelistic. They share some ideas on making it a family affair and some ideas for providing tools to those around you to better share the gospel message.

Serving in vocational ministry is a challenge no matter where God may have led you. I can be an even bigger challenge with God leads your family to be members of your congregation as well. When your in-laws or your parents are active members of your congregation there is a fine like that has to be walked and sometimes knowing where that particular line is can be difficult. This week Dusty and Elizabeth are joined by Elizabeth's parents, John and Sharon Holmes, to discuss what this dynamic looks like and share some of the things they have learned when it comes to how to support their children who have been called into the ministry.

It's no secret that people are always busy. This is no exception for ministry life. Sometimes in order to ensure that everything is handled the way it needs to be handled a little bit of planning ahead is necessary. When it comes to making sure your family is eating healthy, well balanced meals in a timely manner planning ahead is imperative. This week Elizabeth shares her meal planning method that helps to ensure the family is eating well and the budget is staying in check.
On the other side of the microphone Dusty shares some resources he has used to help make his job in ministry more manageable. Dusty shares how he uses e-books and audiobooks to get his daily does of reading done. He also shares how he finds time to be poured into through the use of sermon podcasts throughout the week so he isn't trying to pour into his congregation from an empty vessel.

Distractions are all around us. We live in a world where we are instantly connected to so many things around us and sometimes it is hard to take our eyes off the social media news feeds, the instant messages, and the funny or heartwarming videos right at our finger tips. But sometimes we have to stop, evaluate, and refocus in order to accomplish the tasks set out before us. This week Dusty and Elizabeth talk about some of the things they are distracted by (hello Facebook) and how they work to combat that in order to ensure they are living out a life that is glorifying to God. Refocusing isn't always easy but with a bit of help and some intentionality it can be done.

"Bigger is better." "You have to have that Wow factor."
These are phrases that are heard a lot but sometimes that is just not the case at all. Sometimes, especially in a church replant, trying to do the job God has called you to do requires a "less is more" kind of attitude. Same goes for finding ways and time to connect with your spouse in meaningful and significant ways. This week Dusty and Elizabeth talk about some of the simple things that they have done to stay connected with church members, move the ministry forward, and stay connected with one another. Sometimes the big, extravagant, fancy, and expensive methods aren't always the best used to get the job done.

People are relational. That is how we are created, but sometimes it is necessary to set boundaries in order to ensure safe, healthy interactions. The problem is sometimes it can be really difficult to know when and where to set those healthy boundaries. This week Dusty and Elizabeth talk about the importance of setting boundaries both in your marriage and in the ministry. They talk about some of the pitfalls to avoid while doing so also. Setting boundaries isn't always the easiest thing to do but when it is done well and with a loving heart and mind set everyone benefits in the long run.

We are only 2 weeks into 2021 and it has already been a year for the history books. The pandemic still rages on and now what lawmakers and news outlets can only describe as an attempted coup has taken place right here in America. To say that emotions have run high over the last few days would be and understatement. Far to often in ministry and in marriage we like to pretend that everything is just fine and we hide or bottle up our emotions and feelings. But the truth is that is neither helpful nor healthy. This week Dusty and Elizabeth talk about being real and authentic with ourselves, with our family, and with our congregations as we attempt to navigate the confusion, frustration, hurt, and fears that we are all experiencing while remembering that God is still on the throne and God is still in control.

Happy 2021! The new year is officially here. This week Dusty and Elizabeth dive in to the difficult topic of Spiritual Drought. Let's be honest, we all long to be as close to God as we can possibly get. We want to know we are walking hand in hand with the Lord, but the truth is at some point everyone goes through a season of spiritual dryness. These are the moments that we just don't really feel God's presence. We don't hear God's voice. We have little to no motivation to read the Word, pray, or even attend church or other gatherings with our brothers and sisters in Christ. These seasons are hard but when you make the conscious choice to continue on, one step at a time, day by day in time the season will end. This week Dusty and Elizabeth talk about some times in their lives they have dealt with spiritual dryness and how they found themselves coming out on the other side.

Happy New Year. After the year that has been 2020 it is almost hard to believe that the end is drawing near. Last week Dusty and Elizabeth discussed the importance and the process of goal setting for the new year for personal, marriage, and family growth and development. This week they turn their focus to the church. They discuss the importance of setting goals for the local church body as well as how to incorporate the other leaders and members of the congregation. Though there is no one size fits all, cookie cutter mold for how to go about goal setting the one thing that is most important when planning ahead, both short and long term, is ensuring that the decisions that are being made are wholly glorifying to God.

The year is quickly coming to an end and with that comes the time for planning and preparing for the year ahead. If there was ever a year for setting new goals and looking toward a new and productive year this would be it. This week Dusty and Elizabeth take time to discuss the importance of setting goals for the home and family. They break down why they feel it is important to set small, easily achievable goals together rather than focus on a big overarching hard to attain goal. Elizabeth shares the S.M.A.R.T method of goal planning that is widely known and used while Dusty chooses to take the less conventional route coined by professional wrestler turned yoga master, Diamond Dallas Paige. He uses the acronym S.M.A.C.K.D.O.W.N. No matter what method of goal setting is used it's important that the whole family is on the same page.

Let's be honest, 2020 was not the year anyone expected it to be. Things started off strong but man did we all get hit with a curveball in March. When making plans and goals no one thinks to include something like a global health crisis or stay at home orders. Things like that can make it hard to really see the good that has come out of the last 12 months, but the truth is there are bright spots if you look hard enough. This week Dusty and Elizabeth recap some of the things that have happened both at home and in the church over the last 12 months. It may not have been the most fantastic year but that doesn't mean there isn't a reason to celebrate. In fact, this year is probably the year to cheer all the small stuff!

'Tis the season for holiday parties, family gatherings, and large get togethers....if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic that is requiring us to stay home and limit gathering sizes. One of the things many of those gatherings and get togethers usually have in common are fun games that allow the groups of people to get to know each other better. Elizabeth loves those silly ice breaker games so this week Dusty and Elizabeth play a random question generator game to get to know each other a little bit better (even though they have been married for 12 years.) Listen in to learn a little bit more about the hosts of the Married and Replanting Podcast. Oh, and share some of your thoughts about the questions they answer together in the comments.

Tradition is defined as "the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way." Some of these traditions are fun and have a wonderful meaning attached. Others happen simply out of circumstances years before and no one really knows why they take place. It is no secret that when new people are integrated into our lives it is hard to navigate how to honor the history while determining if the traditions that are passed on are healthy, effective, or necessary. This is true in ministry just as much as in marriage. This week Dusty and Elizabeth discuss some of the challenges to navigating how to handle old well loved traditions as well as attempt to establish new ones within a church replant/revitalization situation and when it comes to merging families in marriage, especially around the holiday season.
Grab a cup of coffee and join us as we discuss some of the traditions we have taken part in within a church or ministry setting as well as with our family and how we have navigated fitting it all into the puzzle together. (Spoiler alert: We are still figuring it all out!)

This week Mark Clifton, on his weekly Facebook Live show or church replanters, discussed the importance of developing a thick skin when it comes to being in ministry, especially when you have made the decision to embark on a replant/revitalization journey and Dusty and Elizabeth couldn't agree more. This week Dusty and Elizabeth carry that conversation further by discussing the need to develop thick skin early on not only in ministry but also as a married couple. Comments, unsolicited advice, thoughts shared that are going to be deemed as constructive criticism are all things everyone faces at some point when it comes to marriage, parenting, and just how to live life in general. Its how you choose to respond that is important.

It's no secret that God created rest for humanity and He fully expects us to take the time we need to recharge in order to be the best we can be for the people we are called to serve. The unfortunate problem that we often run into in ministry, and especially in a replant and revitalization situation, is that we find ourselves burning the candle at both ends. This week Dusty and Elizabeth talk about the importance of scheduling in time to rest and recharge not only for the sake of the ministry but also for the sake of the marriage.
