When most people face a stage 4 cancer diagnosis, they might feel like their life is over. But not our guest, Chuck Keels. He took this dire prognosis as an opportunity to change his life, his mindset, and most surprisingly, his faith. In an awe-inspiring twist on a classic heart-rending tale, Chuck recounts his journey of being diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer and how his encounter with Jesus during a hospital visit changed him. This profound experience not only sparked a miraculous recovery that left his doctors astounded but also inspired him to push past limitations and take an active part in his healing process.

Chuck's journey didn't stop at his personal healing. Armed with renewed faith and unyielding determination, he and his wife used their experiences to fuel a movement called "Get Up and Live". This initiative aims to help others navigating the treacherous waters of cancer and other severe medical conditions. Through this platform, they provide resources, strategies for managing treatment side effects, and most importantly, they teach people how to use the power of their mind to fight their physical battles.

But their fight against cancer doesn't stop there. Chuck and his wife have also established the Living Hope Cancer Foundation, a haven that offers cancer coaching, support, and resources to patients and their families. In a world often overwhelmed by the dark cloud of cancer, the Kiehls stand as a beacon of hope, proving that even in the face of terminal disease, one can find happiness, make a difference, and yes, even live a fulfilled life. Listen in as they share their empowering journey and inspire you to "Get Up and Live", no matter what life throws your way.

This was my Facebook post for today and I thought it was better than show notes. (Let's Connect on Facebook

5 years ago today you introduced yourself to me, my family, and friends.

I just wanted to say Thank You for stopping by and impacting my life the way you did!

I know you thought you were sneaky creeping into our lives without showing signs of a lump but what you didn’t know is that I was (still am) in tune with my body and I knew something was wrong after having 6 days of anxiety and high blood pressure and knowing my hormones were out of whack which is what got me to the doctor in the first place. After a routine women’s wellness exam & mammogram, as well as an MRI & biopsy you were discovered!

You also didn’t know who you were messing with because I don’t play games but what I DO do is wake up every day on a mission of Changing The World, One S.M.I.L.E. At A Time

You allowed me to find my Purpose at the intersection of Passion and Pain, which has allowed me to make an impact on others on so many levels and also help others navigate their journey as well!

You introduced me to so many important lessons like:

  1. Listen to your body

  2. How to slow down and enjoy the moments in life

  3. How there is a HUGE gap between the medical and fitness industries

  4. That other women and families don’t need to fight this alone

  5. How to say NO to people and things

  6. I have a gift that wasn’t being used to its fullest potential

  7. And SOOO MUCH MORE!

So what I’ve done with those amazing lessons in the last 5 years is:

  1. Had the Policies & Procedures changed at the hospital that lost my Lymph node which has never given me total clearance that cancer has not spread

  2. Raised & donated over $15,000 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer & Bluewater Babes

  3. I’ve been an advocate and a voice for others to know it’s OK to fire your medical team if they aren’t a good fit for you

  4. I’ve launched a podcast (Bustin' Out of Breast Cancer) to have a platform to share my story and the stories of so many amazing Thrivers

  5. Became a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist to be able to help others navigate their recovery from surgery and treatment

  6. Met so many amazing women that have been diagnosed and have become friends

  7. Found so much confidence & clarity in my life

  8. Took back control of my life

  9. Incorporated into my Real Estate business plan that every transaction I close, a portion of my commission will go back to a breast cancer organization to help others

  10. And the list goes on!

Because I will find the silver lining in everything!

Hitting the 5 year cancer free milestone is a big deal and it seemed like it would be forever until I got here and trust me when I tell you the wind has been taken out of my sails on many occasions. I have even felt like a weeble wobble many times but as we know, weebles wobble, but they don’t fall down!

Rest assured my comeback is much greater than my setback!

Thank you breast cancer, I’ll take it from here!

EP 159-Straight Talk with Dr. Edo McGee-Pharmacist, Mindset Coach, Thriver, and Founder of S.E.W. WellnessDr. Edo McGee is a 5-year breast cancer Thriver and the CEO/Founder of S.E.W. Wellness. They serve breast cancer patients from the start of diagnosis and beyond through survivorship to support, and empower them to prioritize their mental health as a critical part of overall wellness during their recovery journey.

Dr. McGee talks about how she went from a high achieving pharmacist/educator to diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 at 33 with a 3 yr old. She followed her treatment from starting chemo to surgery but the whole time after hearing her diagnosis she had become depressed, anxious, and hopeless. While unpacking the mental aftermath of the diagnosis with a licensed therapist, she discovered that the missing link to her recovery was mental wellness. The transformation came when she discovered the role of a certified peer mental health specialist that used a wellness recovery framework. She realized how much it helped her so she became certified herself. Now she can help young high achievers, diagnosed with breast cancer, to identify their goals, hopes, and dreams with the help of a mindset breast cancer coach.

There are several options to choose from at SEW Wellness including group coaching virtually by partnering with cancer institutions to serve as a wellness program for patients receiving treatment and beyond, cancer care packages for family members and friends looking to support a survivor during treatment; and FREE 10-day mental health wellness challenges.

Important topics in this episode:

EP 141-Straight Talk About Suicide & Self-ImprovementSeptember is Suicide Prevention & Self-Improvement Month and I want to bring awareness to them both because I feel they go hand in hand.

No one should have to battle depression or their breast cancer journey alone.

I have heard far too many breast cancer survivors talk about having depression and even thoughts of suicide and it breaks my heart.

I focus on The S.M.I.L.E. Method because it helps. Simply Making Individual Lifestyle Enhancements is about Self-Improvement. Becoming a better version of yourself each and every day is work, which turns into a reward because you feel better, look better, and show up each day better!

You deserve that! Start today by taking the first step...literally, get your body moving!

Important topics in this episode:
● 3 tips to get started with self-improvement

● The importance of checking in with friends and family. You never know if they need it.

**● Know you're not alone

● A reminder of episode 128 with Teresa Alesch and she talks about her suicide attempt during her breast cancer journey**

EP 122-Emotions Beyond Breast Cancer

I was driving the struggle bus last week and super emotional. I had to realize it's ok to stop and feel my feelings.

I had to tell myself it's ok to still get emotional and have moments of sadness along the way.

I also need to realize that my heart wasn't completely filled by not serving the many other women out there that could benefit from my coaching to PREVENT a cancer diagnosis or other chronic disease.

EP 121-Infertility and Breast Cancer

All I wanted was a family. I didn't think that process would have me receiving a breast cancer diagnosis later in life.

Cancer strips us of everything, so at least that's how we feel.

Imagine being an avid athlete, or even just someone that wants to take care of themselves by exercising regularly to stay healthy, and now you've been diagnosed with cancer and you have to go through surgeries and treatments that alter not only physically, but emotionally and psychology as well.

Many cancer patients experience depression, anxiety, feeling hopeless and if exercise was a way of releasing any type of emotion before and you are stripped of that, it can lead to a recipe for depression.

It is so important to become resourceful when you are going through your cancer journey. Be your own advocate. Find a support group.

I want to be that person for you. Your resource and support.

If you are newly diagnosed with breast cancer, please DOWNLOAD THIS FREE RESOURCE GUIDE to help you.
