Melanie McDaniel, Founder of Freestyle Capital Group, is a lifestyle design enthusiast and location independent traveler. Melanie was raised in a blue-collar home in suburbia, America. She was taught, like many American kids, to go to school, get good grades, go to college, then get a job, preferably one with a pension, work for 20-40 years and retire in her 60s–she also had a serious case of wanderlust for as long as she could remember, a frustrating conflict. Often losing sleep dreaming about the curiosities she had of the world, Melanie’s soul was yearning to travel, discover, and be out in the world. It is no wonder that Melanie ended up with a lifestyle that allows her to travel and live abroad for months at a time, it was who she was all along. To learn more about her journey, watch the video. Melanie spends most of her time building relationships with strategic partners who are the best operators in the business in their investment specialty. She attends conferences, training, and networking events to stay abreast of who’s who in the business, to learn what changes are happening in the industry, and to continue to grow her professional network. She spends a significant amount of time conducting due diligence on sponsors, projects, market economics, and she negotiates, structures, and presents only the best opportunities to her investor-partners. Melanie found her purpose, which is to inspire others to join the lifestyle design movement and to help them find their path to financial freedom and grow their wealth through real estate. How do you go from pro soccer player to VP of one of the largest mortgage companies in America – more importantly what did he learn along the way, the answer is A LOT!
Once an Olympic USA Soccer Player, Brian quickly learned how to get “cut” and literally… get cut. Fitness and mindset became masteries for Brian very early as his career was affected by the 2007 market crash just years after his soccer team days came to an end, right when he was raising toddlers with his wife Nicole.
Brian has mastered the art of a growth mindset, the art of winning, and the art of staying fit. He believes in integration and health over all things. Brian is an executive at loanDepot, a proud father, an influencer, a top rated podcaster and, just simply, a fabulous soccer dad. He throws the suit down and coaches his daughters league with joy several times a week. It’s Brian’s mission with his new book, “Conversations with Covey”, to highlight some of the most incredible stories he’s gotten to share on his podcast, the Brian Covey Show.
Its all about balance!
Ever since Brian was a child he has had this instinctive urge for expansion and growth. “To me, the function and duty of a quality human being is the sincere and honest development of one’s potential.”
Growing up in Memphis, TN his love for the sport of soccer led him to travel the world, compete at the highest levels & experience so much that has shaped him into the husband, dad & leader he is today.
Today, Brian is a VP in the mortgage industry with loanDepot, one of the top 5 lenders in the country. He is still very passionate about being part of a championship team and equipping his team with the tools to excel, leadership development & leading change in the mortgage industry.

Handi Capable Fitness (HCF), was born from the inspiration of founder James Norris and his trainer, Joe. Joe realized that the journey James was on—from enthusiastic, but not-so physically fit to hosting the annual HCF Walk—had the potential to encourage others to take on the same challenge. James created an Instagram account to share both his successes and failures with other Handi Capable athletes. After just the first few video posts of James working out, the positive feedback was overwhelming. There was clearly a need for an organization like HCF.
HCF is a platform designed to help folks achieve their goals—whatever they may be. We want others to experience the huge satisfaction that comes from overcoming challenges of all forms. When that’s a physical challenge, that means actively willing your body to be stronger, better and capable of pushing harder.
From James:
I was born three months premature. I weighed 2.5 pounds and measured 11.75” from head to toe; that’s shorter than a Velveeta box. I stayed in the hospital for three months, and my Mom would tell me years later she would wear the same perfume everyday so I would know she was there. About a month after being released, I was rushed to the hospital to undergo an emergency hernia surgery. During the procedure, the tube that was to deliver my oxygen was not taped to my mouth; I moved during surgery and was deprived of oxygen for five minutes. At the time, it was unclear if I was going to survive. By the grace of God, I did.
Before my second birthday, I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP). There are many different types and severities of CP; my type affects my legs and left arm, leaving me with poor balance and limited use of my arm. As a child, I had many surgeries on my back, ankles, hips, and hamstrings, each with the goal of loosening the muscles to increase range of motion and flexibility. This, of course, was followed by years of physical therapy . . . and let me tell you, I HATED IT! That being said, my parents, teachers, and physical therapist didn’t let me off the hook that easy, and thanks to them, I was able to use braces and a walker.
I’d always been a huge sports fan, so my parents got me involved in Challenger baseball and basketball. I immediately fell in love. Every Friday night, I became either Mo Vaughn or Michael Jordan.
My whole fitness journey has inspired me to learn more so I can help other adaptive athletes (which I call handi-capable athletes) achieve their goals. HCF has become a platform for me to do this as effectively as I possibly can. Through HCF, I now communicate with folks from Boston, from all corners of the US, and from all around the world. I’ve participated in and assisted others through Spartan Races, lost more than 50 pounds, climbed 40-foot rock walls, and am in the gym 1-2 times a day. I push my own physical limits to show myself and the HCF community that with the right mindset, the right community, and the right motivations, there is literally nothing that can hold us back.
Handi Capable Fitness exists to help, inspire, and highlight others who are faced with challenges. No challenge should stop someone from doing amazing things.

After 13 years of teaching, he decided it was time to change the way people feel about insurance. Jeremy carried the heart of an educator over and he's been making insurance simple for first time home buyers and real estate investors even since.
Most days Jeremy can be found helping real estate investors by shooting them ball parks, reviewing their policies, and making insurance work for their bottom line. Andrew Myers began in sales and marketing at 16 years old selling toys door to door and eventually stumbled into the world of selling cars at staffed event sales all over the country. Both jobs required a keen understanding of short, succinct, powerful sales language that worked more often than not! In 2008, he explored a passion for making videos and successfully started a nationally recognized custom video studio with his brother in the heart of Seattle that was focused on the Automotive Industry and creating strong sales-optimized videos. What’s Next Media was later purchased by an automotive advertising company.
His second venture was systematically built to address all the problems he encountered in the large agency setting and doubled down to be an even more video-centric organization. He focused on using a series of video ads in concert with each other to digitally mimic the naturally more conversational sales process, rather than just producing “one-off” offer announcement type ads. The new idea helps small business owners build a system for their brand’s prospects where they are consistently seeing the right ad, served at the right time, with the right messaging to influence and engage anywhere in the purchase journey.
While training clients and their staff, Andrew began teaching across the country the skills needed for business people to create their own ad content he uses in-house to populate the ads his agency creates. Providing quality training and removing this large barrier for both salespeople and organizations to create or obtain quality video content was key to finding success.
Combining his extensive knowledge of selling people, not products and a videographer's storytelling ability he has compiled an extensive library of tips, tricks and examples to help anyone with a cell phone make “videos that don’t suck” that influence prospects and provide a more engaging experience.

Before becoming a real estate entrepreneur, KeePon Cashflow’s founder Billy Keels worked in the corporate world. In fact, he was one of the best “corporate soldiers” you’d ever want to meet.
During his corporate career Billy put his leadership and relationship-building skills to good use to help clients get to the root of issues that were holding them back from full success. Billy earned his stripes as a true problem-solver, a skill he carried into his new entrepreneurial life.
What made him popular with employers who sent him across the globe to meet with Fortune 500-level clients is the same thing that makes him popular with investors, buyers and sellers in real estate today… his skills in coming up with real solutions that work in the real world for real people!
Billy says that he was happy enough in his J.O.B., but something was missing. An emptiness and longing for a different life chewed on him, pulling him to what he knew he wanted to do more than anything else. Billy wanted to be an entrepreneur who brought two worlds together. He wanted to give individuals where he lives the chance to invest in properties on U.S. soil.
So he took steps and kept on the path to his goals. KeePon Cashflow is the result of his efforts.
Today Billy is an international real estate entrepreneur, problem-solver, author, coach and mentor. He sees opportunities where others often don’t in real estate.
No “overnight success,” Billy continues to work toward his vision and goals. Topmost on his list? Building a bridge between investors and buyers in Europe with sellers in the U.S.

In a world loaded with self-described “motivational gurus” who are far, far more interested in your cash than they are in your consciousness, Steve Sims refuses to compromise his principles, which include:
What You See IS What You Get Many speakers who claim to be “onions” – i.e. wrapped in mystical and magical layers of enigmatic meaning – have their metaphors mixed up, because they’re typically nothing but smoke and mirrors; get too close, and it’s all style and no substance.
Steve ain’t no onion.
What you see IS what you get. And what you see and get is a man who you’d probably avoid making eye contact with in an alley — or anywhere else for that matter. After all, a shaved head, Harley Davidson garb and body piercings on a 5’ 11”, 240 lb. frame don’t scream “let’s be friends!”
But that’s the irony of it all, because despite his gruff exterior, Steve is remarkably open, engaging, generous, intuitive, insightful and competent – and he’s leveraged all of this to build a remarkably successful entrepreneurial career.
Steve is the visionary founder of the world’s first luxury concierge that delivers the highest level of personalized travel, transportation, and cutting-edge entertainment services to corporate executives, celebrities, professional athletes, and other discerning individuals interested in living life to its fullest.
Just some of the extraordinary experiences that Steve and his team have made possible for his A-list clientele include:

Dan Burkard left the corporate world in 2019 and moved to Nashville with his partner Michelle Carilli to taste their way through the city and document their journey on their Instagram page @wickedtasty, to give well-deserved local restaurants exposure. With the professional photography and the lively personality they portrayed, the page has grown in popularity to over 10K followers and the couple has embraced the community in the Nashville hospitality scene who helped them along the way. When COVID-19 hit, it left their new community struggling to stay afloat. Dan and Michelle wanted to do everything in their power to be there for the community who helped them build @wickedtasty, and MENU was the way to do that.
MENU is a digital menu platform for restaurants that uses photos to sell food and connect restaurants with their customers. By integrating photos with digital menus, MENU gives customers a better dining experience elevating the way you order food. As opposed to traditional paper menus, QR codes and other touch-free versions, MENU’s interactive platform allows restaurants to customize their offerings in real-time so guests have an easy-to-view and visually appealing way to see what is available at that very time. MENU’s mission is to not only help businesses survive during this tough time, but thrive.

Josh Cary spent 40 years in hiding! That’s right. He was hiding every aspect of himself and showing up with a ‘mask’ on in all areas of life trying to gain the approval of everyone else.
At 19, he changed his name and entered into, what would become, a 15-year career as a professional actor and filmmaker. The applause and external accolades didn’t completely heal his feelings of anxiety and insecurities and he found himself more isolated than ever.
Today, Josh is the co-founder of PodMAX a podcast production and media company that provides training and events catered to entrepreneurs who have a meaningful message to share.
Josh is also an accomplished podcast host of two shows with over 300 combined episodes and he’s a business coach to entrepreneurs who are ready, willing, and able to say “F That NOISE!”

Alex Sanfilippo started his first business at the age of twelve; selling used golf balls. From there, he went on to real estate investing and a technology start up which he sold years later. For the past decade, Alex has been an executive in the aerospace industry. During his time in corporate America, he stayed active with his side hustles; which mainly consisted of conference speaking and business coaching.
Many of us waste time and money while growing our brands. Alex is in the same boat even though he was trying to do the opposite. He spent money that he didn’t need to spend and wasted time that he didn’t need to waste. All because he wasn’t sure where, or even how to start or what to do next. As you can tell, he was confused and felt alone on his journey.
Over time, he was able to learn, gain traction and grow his businesses. Alex became a success. (Certainly not overnight.) At this point, Alex became passionate to help others. He didn’t want people to struggle as he did. He began a business coaching agency and was able to help many people. However, it still didn’t feel right. He couldn’t help as many people as he wanted (there is only so many hours in the day) and other people who needed his help the most couldn’t afford it.
Then one day, he had an idea! It was an idea that he knew would help a lot of people succeed.
Alex launched the Creating a Brand Network! He launched this podcast and masterclass community because he wants you to succeed quicker than he did.
Whether you’re just getting started or have an established brand, the Creating a Brand Masterclasses are full of like-minded entrepreneurs. It is a community that is passionate about helping you succeed on your journey.
The heart behind Creating a Brand is to become your primary resource for growing your business. At the same time, they want it to feel like a family/tribe. You’re not alone in what you’re creating, and you should never feel that way. This masterclasses will help you focus on what matters, expanding your reach and create a more profitable brand. Your brand succeeding is our ultimate goal.

As a Nashville native with deep-seated roots in the West Tennessee food and beverage culture, Pitmaster Carey Bringle was born into Barbeque, his appreciation for smoke, fire and, of course, flavor is second-to-none. Bringle was raised on iconic West Tennessee barbecue where thick smoke, a spicy rub and a trusty smoker is “the secret sauce.” For the Bringle family, barbecue is more than eating; barbecue is about bonding and bringing people together as a community.
Being mentored in competitive barbecuing by his uncle, Bruce Bringle, who competed in the very first Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest in 1976, made quite an impact on Carey, who at the time was a budding BBQ enthusiast. Today, Bringle has demonstrated his talents in the “Super Bowl of Swine” for more than 26 years. Winning various awards including several top ten finishes, 2nd place on three separate occasions and 3rd place on “Whole Hog” is worth its weight in bragging rights.
On a personal note, at the age of 17, Carey was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer. After months of intensive chemotherapy, Carey lost his right leg. Instead of letting this tragedy set him back, he emerged from that experience with a new perspective and outlook on life. He realized that every day brings new adventures, new experiences, and another chance to enjoy great food, especially barbecue. It was then he vowed to place fun, food, friends and family at the very center of his life.
Today Carey’s zest for life and sense of humor is reflected in his signature “Peg Leg Porker” brand. Peg Leg Porker BBQ opened in 2013 to offer Peg Leg Porker sauces and rubs, a new line of professional-grade home smokers, and Peg Leg Porker Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey. And, of course, Carey still offers his award-winning barbecue at his restaurant located in Nashville’s Gulch neighborhood at 903 Gleaves Street.
Peg Leg Porker has more accolades than most and has been featured on television and in magazines since its doors opened. Peg Leg Porker’s glossy print features include GQ, Bon Appétit Magazine, Southern Living, Texas Monthly and National Geographic. Digital outlets like Eater National have named Peg Leg Porker as one of the nations “16 Hottest BBQ Joints” in the country while Cooking with Paula Dean Magazine named Peg Leg Porker one of the “Top 10 BBQ Joints in the U.S.”
While his press highlights keeps coming in, Carey hasn’t been resting on his success. He continues to push himself to be his best. In 2016, he founded another nationally acclaimed brand, Peg Leg Porker Bourbon, which has already won many medals in the competitive bourbon industry. And just when the masses thought Carey had done it all, he and his wife most recently undertook a huge 3-story renovation and redesign of the Peg Leg Porker brick and mortar building in Nashville, Tennessee, which includes a half a million dollar kitchen in collaboration with Viking brand kitchen appliances, known as the “Peg Leg Porker Loft.” The space is set to house some of the nation’s top-shelf chefs who will offer cooking classes and special invite dinners and host visiting musicians in Music City.

Every once in a while, in the ever competitive entertainment industry, a presence enters the scene that turns heads, opens eyes and ears, touches hearts and makes a lasting impact on everyone they encounter: Such is the case with the multifaceted, arts-embracing, Manny Cabo. From Elizabeth New Jersey, to Manhattan, to L.A., to Nashville, with stops in between, Cabo has been leaving his creative mark everywhere he goes. Whether he’s acting, hosting, photographing or singing, his compelling focus and his artistry shines through.
What set Cabo apart on the show even more than his undeniable God-given gift, however, was his ability to encourage, connect and leave a lasting impact on those around him. His fellow contestants thought of him as a mentor and a brotherly figure as he taught them to spread positivity, to live in the moment and to continue the journey after they return home. Cabo’s life beyond “The Voice” has consisted of the same passion, helpfulness and desire to fight for what he loves. As a result, his fan base has also exploded. Though he receives countless e-mails daily, he makes the effort to respond to each and every one. He knows art is his platform to make a difference in the world, and he doesn’t take it lightly. Cabo’s positive disposition on the voice is what ultimately makes him a force to be reckoned with no matter where he goes. As he excels in his career, his main priority remains to those around him. While striving to better himself, he takes everyone he can find along with him. As he walks through crowds slowly, he lives with the mindset, of “Who can I help today?”
Surprisingly, Manny was late to the singing world. He was a drummer, and he had honed his other creative crafts before being the man behind the mic. After directing his first school play in the fifth grade, he realized his passion for directing and the silver screen. Then came photography and acting. Prior to belting out tunes, he even came close to having a career as a professional baseball player, but it wasn’t to be. Though he even once worked as a head trainer for Apple computers, it was clear that art would ultimately be his path. Cabo continues to make a splash in fashion/commercial photography today. His photos have been featured in a plethora of major magazines including Maxim, Muscle Fitness Playboy, Inked, Musician, NYC Resident, Industry among others. As an award-winning photographer, he delivers a fashion/editorial/edgy appearance. He has received honors for Wedding photography, Editorial, Music, Glamour and Fine Art photography.
Cabo’s servant heart extends to doing charity work for a number of good causes, including ones involving military and police officers. He works with the “Last Salute,” “National Night Out,” and “Musicians on Call.” Whether it’s going into schools and speaking against bullying, working with children with autism or singing the national anthem at a children’s hospital, Cabo remains dependable in spreading support.
As he brings a Powerful Pop Rock sound to the stage, he delivers an individuality which has an impossibility of going unnoticed. Manny Cabo continues to utilize his microphone for both unparalleled music and influential words of encouragement, and with that, it is certain that his best years in the entertainment scene are still ahead.

Hannah Rose Huntley and James Jericho met one fateful night at Saddle Ranch, a Western Bar on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. The duo quickly developed their own distinct writing style, and hit the studio with RIAA certified Platinum producer, Jordan Richman. The two then created their first band, The SLVR Tongues, and after being discovered by Nashville based manager, Preston Sullivan of Global Eyes Entertainment, the pair decided to take the opportunity to pursue their music at a new level, and moved to Music City. Home is Where the Neon Is: The two quickly found a haven in the Downtown Nashville scene, performing at the hottest country bars, and soaking up the neon lights of Broadway. With the release of their first EP, "Rough Around the Edges," the group began finding success on streaming platforms, Nashville band circuits, and even on an international tour. Their growth attracted more support from the Nashville music industry, and along with Global Eyes Entertainment, Hannah and James extended their management team to include The Holland Group. As the duo’s sound and image began to reflect the Nashville nights that had come to shape the two as artists, Hannah and James felt the need for a new name that embodied all that they’d grown to become. Enter. Jericho Rose. A natural pairing of two best friends, with clever storytelling lyrics and a dynamic mix up of new country sounds, James Jericho and Hannah “Rose” Huntley are both at their best when singing together in perfect harmony.

Currently, Bennie is a member of New Orleans Saints. Bennie earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Michigan State University in 2014. At Michigan State, he was a member of the 2014 100th Rose Bowl Championship Team, ending a twenty-six year Big Ten and Rose Bowl appearance drought for the Spartans. He is a fervent advocate of the neuroscience technique of brain-mapping, which assists him in localizing the immediate recall skills associated with multifaceted play structure in an intense and fast-paced aggressive environment. This mindfulness platform gave rise to his performance coaching business. Bennie has been trained by CTI Co-Active training institute. Authentic. Aware. Influential. Innovative. Present. Grateful. Why: Reality is nothing more than applied meaning. OG philosophy. In a digital world, our current world, many of our realities are defined by what we consume digitally. Social media influence is not going anywhere and people are consuming it younger and younger each year- thus the digital impact starts sooner. Rather than fight what is, we are here to disrupt the noise with a platform to highlight powerful voices alongside powerful missions, communities, and companies. We can't stop the social machine, so we are working to highlight great humans questioning a better way and showcase how they do it. In one single day of work, Bee Evans has worn a hard hat, a cheerleading costume, and high heels. Beginning with a career in oil and gas, Bee found early success as the co-owner of her company. As a professional cheerleader for The Phoenix Suns, she'd leave the work boots behind and bring her playful, spirited side onto the court. No stranger to living in different worlds, Bee could seamlessly slide between the two but she wasn't happy. Successful business? Check. Creative pursuit of dance? Check. Two amazing kids? Check. But there was something missing. She was living out the script that someone else had written for her. This disconnect began to nag at her. One day, as the tag on her blazer literally scratched at her neck, she realized that we all live with labels that are often uncomfortable and do not fit who we are or who we wish to be. So began her next chapter: the act of tearing out her own tags and coming to live in alignment with her passions and her work. As a professional speaker, coach and thought leader, Bee helps people break out of the boxes they have been living in, tear out their own tags, and create vision for the life they want. Kerry Barrett used to have a fear of public speaking. Not a rational fear, like so many have. No, this fear was crippling—to the point where the very thought of it would send her into the proverbial fetal position, paralyzed by anxiety and insecurity. So, how did she end up with a 20+ year career in the news business speaking to an audience of millions every day? She followed her passion. Kerry loves a good story—a passion that was born out of a childhood spent overseas. She was always interested in learning about other people—their cultures, how they lived and their personal stories. This influenced not only her career path in communications, but also her innate ability to recognize interesting stories in others. She pursued a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Communication Studies in Journalism from Clemson University, where she had no choice but to face her public-speaking phobia, head-on. She was not willing to let anxiety and self-doubt stand in the way of following a career that fueled her life’s true passion. Over time, with hard work and a splash of self-confidence, she didn’t just kick that once crippling fear to the curb, she turned it into one of her core strengths. Kerry Barrett spent the next two decades in front of the camera as a broadcast news anchor, reporter and producer for a number of reputable outlets, including NBC, ABC and Fox, to name a few. In those roles, she earned several notable accolades, including a first-place award with the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), an Emmy Award in Breaking News, an RTNDA Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence and a Utah Broadcasters Association award. In early 2019, she decided to take her passion in a new direction. With that she founded Kerry Barrett Consulting, a full-service public speaking and media training boutique. Today, she helps others bring their stories to life with confidence and personality. https://kerrybarrettconsulting.com/ Instagram: @kerbarrett Twitter: @TheReelKerryB Follow us on Instagram: @TheMorningSpotlight Email us at: themorningspotlight@gmail.com www.themorningspotlight.com For title insurance inquiries contact Mike at michael.ham@ctt.com

Amber's road to becoming a coach began in 2016 when she dug into personal development. Since 2016, Amber has pushed the boundaries of her self-imposed physical and mental limitations, living outside her comfort zone as much as possible and learning about how the mind works and how our limiting beliefs affect our success. Reggie Walker is a retired NFL linebacker. Spending parts of 7 years in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals, San Diego Chargers, and Denver Broncos, Reggie seemingly had it all but there was much more bubbling under the surface that was desperately trying to get out.
Reggie is a survivor of and advocate against mental, physical, and sexual abuse. His journey through life eventually led him to football which gave him an outlet to be as physical and violent as possible. Reggie had so much anger, so much rage he was lucky to find football. He described having a hard time feeling and was constantly living life to the extreme, describing it like "hanging off the edge of a cliff by your pinky toe."
Eventually, this way of life became exhausting. The lines between his persona in the NFL and the Reggie who was a captain on the field, a leader off the field, and someone who continually provided support for those around him were starting to blur. After his daughter told him she did not feel comfortable around him, he knew it was time to make a change. Through rehab centers and therapy, Reggie eventually brought himself out of the depths to be the man you hear on this episode. Marty Ray is an indie artist that will always be an indie artist. He has amassed a fan base of over 1.2 million fans and 200+ million views across all social media platforms. “I’m just a guy that God out here to sing and write songs, some people seem to like em”. He became a viral sensation with his cover of Vanilla Ice's "Ice, Ice, Baby" but his original songs show the true essence of Marty. Personally, Mike's favorites are Bleed, Haunted, and Outlaw.
Marty is also an actor that has co starred in TV shows like: The Detour on TBS, ZOO on CBS, and Preacher on AMC. He has acted in various films as well.
Before he accomplishes anything in music or acting though, he had a podcast. Back when podcast received barely any attention and few people knew what they were, he was podcasting. His podcast, Marty Ray Project Chats, which he co-hosts with songwriter Chris Wallin, is excellent. They have had great guests like Bert Kreischer and Diamond Dallas Page.
He is now writing an article for a publication that highlights indie artists, like himself, on top of everything else. Needless to say, anything in entertainment, he is up for it.

Mitzi Perdue knows that every family business has a culture. The question is, does this culture come about by design or by default? The ones that come about by default rarely support keeping the family business in the family across the generations. So, what can a family do to develop and strengthen a culture that will support their deepest goals and values? Mitzi Perdue draws on the experience of her family of origin, the Henderson Estate Company which dates back to 1840 and was the forerunner of the Sheraton Hotels (her father was co-founder of the chain). She also looks to her marital family (she’s the widow of Frank Perdue from Perdue Farms) that began in 1920. In both cases, family members in each generation put enormous effort into creating and maintaining strong, values-based cultures. Her talks stem from her lifelong observations not only of how her two families have kept together over a combined total of 280 years, but she’s also closely observed how other high net worth families, often ones she’s known since childhood, created and continuously strengthen positive cultures. She’s also observed almost countless cases where families that lacked a supportive culture failed spectacularly. Mitzi’s talks contain practical tips for embedding a positive culture. She’s been a part of carrying out all of them, and in some cases, creating them. These are tips that work, they’re practical, and they can make a spectacular difference in whether the family continues across the generations, or becomes one of the 70% that fails to pass on their legacy to the next generation. Mitzi is a businesswoman, author, and a master story teller. She holds degrees from Harvard University and George Washington University, is a past president of the 40,000 member American Agri-Women and was one of the U.S. Delegates to the United Nations Conference on Women in Nairobi. She currently writes for the Academy of Women’s Health, and GEN, Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News. Most recently, she’s authored Tough Man, Tender Chicken: Business and Life Lessons from Frank Perdue. The book made #5 on Amazon’s Business Biographies, out of a field of 20,000. She’s also the author of, I Didn’t Bargain for This, her story of growing up as a hotel heiress. A woman of many talents, she also programmed a computer app, B Healthy U, designed to help people track the interactions of lifestyle factors that influence their energy, sleep, hunger, mood, and ability to handle stress. In addition to being a programmer and software developer, Mitzi is also an artist and designer of EveningEggs™ handbags. In addition, Mitzi the author of more than 1800 newspaper and magazine articles on family businesses, food, agriculture, the environment, philanthropy, biotechnology, genetic engineering, and women’s health. She was a syndicated columnist for 22 years, and her weekly environmental columns were distributed first by California’s Capitol News and later, by Scripps Howard News Service, to roughly 420 newspapers. For two years she was a Commissioner on the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science. Mitzi also produced and hosted more than 400 half hour interview shows, Mitzi’s Country Magazine on KXTV, the CBS affiliate in Sacramento, California. In addition, she hosted and produced more than 300 editions of Mitzi’s Country Comments, which was syndicated to 76 stations. Her radio series, Tips from the Farmer to You, was broadcast weekly for two years on the Coast to Coast Radio Network. To celebrate the holiday season, we decided to bring back a few familiar guests to discuss foundations they have either founded or help run. We hope the holiday spirit moves our Spotlight listeners into a giving mood to support these great causes! Note: All of these foundations can be found under the "Support Our Friends" tab at www.themorningspotlight.com! Start Day One Foundation - Ricardo Zulueta, Jr. (Founder) The founders of Start Day One, Ricardo & Kristen Zulueta, have been supporting suicide prevention awareness with their apparel brand, which has the mission to inspire and motivate people to live life without regret and accept challenges worth the risk. Ricardo has personally experienced the loss of his oldest brother from suicide, which is why they are genuinely passionate about their mission. According to their philosophy, true prevention is not waiting for someone to reach out or show symptoms of suicidal tendencies. It is more effective to proactively help people stop complaining and taking life for granted in the first place. People don't need help because they are depressed or suicidal. They need help that's WHY they're depressed or suicidal. Depression is not the cause, it is merely the result. https://startdayone.org/ founder@fukittclothing.com Keep on Pushing Foundation - Devon Harris, OLY (Founder) The Keep On Pushing Foundation is a federally recognized 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 2006 by former Jamaican bobsled team captain, Devon Harris. The foundation was started as a result of Devon’s commitment to do whatever it takes to nourish the bodies and minds of the children in his old neighborhood-the Olympic Gardens area of Kingston, and elsewhere around the world, as Devon firmly believes they have the same potential for success as he did. The majority of the children in Olympic Gardens qualify for assistance from the Keep on Pushing Foundation. Our client-base is primarily underemployed or unemployed residents who live in a community which is prone to politically motivated and gang related outbreaks of violence. Generally speaking, students are performing well below the required standard. Some display traits of short attention span, listlessness, aggression, fatigue, irregular attendance and unpunctuality. It was discovered that their under-achievement and poor behavior was as a result of the lack of a proper meal to start the day.
Hope is the life-blood of possibilities. In nourishing the minds and bodies of these “at risk” youths, the Keep on Pushing Foundation is assisting them in getting a good education and therefore giving them hope and the ability to explore and take advantage of opportunities that would otherwise pass them by. https://keeponpushing.org/ devon@keeponpushing.org Project Kind - Monica Dema (Advisory Board Member) From its inception, Jenny DePaul—founder and CEO of Project Kind—set out to help those that are less fortunate. Bringing peanutbutter jelly sandwiches to Newark, NJ, was just the start. Creating Kindness Notes and packing that into each sandwich bag let her new friends know that they are worthy of love and reminded them of it long after the sandwich was eaten. With the help of sponsors and affiliates around the world, Project Kind reaches more people in need than ever—and will not stop. https://www.projectkind123.org/ projectkind123@projectkind123.org Follow us on Instagram: @TheMorningSpotlight Email us at: themorningspotlight@gmail.com www.themorningspotlight.com
