Nova 104 Internet Radio
Nova 104 was an AOR FM Station that broadcast out of Lake Charles, La from 1976-1981. It was referred to as "The Album Station" playing album cuts from a wide variety of music such as Rock, Folk, New Wave, Progressive Country, Jazz, Art Rock, Blues, Heavy Metal, etc. This is our attempt to bring back Nova 104 via the internet at www.nova104.net and www.nova104.com.
This was recorded before we took Nova 104 to KBYS...it is a show idea that was suggested by a listener to pay tribute to all the artists that performed at the Lake Charles Civic Center back when we actually had great bands appearing there...these are not the actual live recordings from their performances there but live cuts of each artist that appeared there during the Civic Center's heyday...I hope you enjoy the show.
This is the Nova 104 420 Salute originally aired on kbys in 2017 featuring the history of the 420 holiday as well as 420 related songs about Ganja, Marijuana, Grass, Weed, Reefer...whatever you call it including our Original/Classic: Joe Cocker's "Lets Go Get Stoned" along with a "mellow" Cat Stevens Mini-Concert and our Album Spotlight: Eagles - Hotel California.

So I got this Buddy Miles Live double LP off of ebay...three sides played VG+ but Record 2 Side A had a film on it...I cleaned it with my vpi 16.5 but the film was still there and could be heard (that's the 1st part of the audio clip) So I tried Ammonia Free Windex...scrubbed it with my VPI brush and then cleaned it with my VPI solution...the results are amazing...just listen and of course I wanted to share...

This concert was recorded as a farewell appearance by The Band on Thanksgiving Day 1976...40 Years Ago... at The Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, California featuring guests appearances by Eric Clapton, Van Morrison (Official), Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Neil Young, Dr. John, Ronnie Hawkins, Bobby Charles, Neil Diamond, Emmy Lou Harris, Paul Butterfield, Ringo Starr, Ronnie Wood and The Staple Singers! I have added a THANKSGIVING Tradition to the end of the show...Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant in it's entirety...

Sent to us courtesy of Carly J Dubois whose friend Jeff had taped some of the songs and air personalities and commercials off the air of the original Nova 104 in 1979. The quality is not the best but for a tape that is 40 years old...it's not bad. Voices you might recognize...Janel Dolan, Eric Neilsen, R.L. Ruth and me...Robyn Daniels...a VERY young me. Enjoy!!

Recorded from my Technics SL1200 Turntable with a Stanton 680 EL Cartridge and Stylus through my Pioneer SA-6800 Stereo Amplifier to my HP computer to NCH Wavepad...this is the entire album side from the moment the needle hits the grove until the deadwax. The WAVE file was too large to upload here so I converted it to MP3 but you'll get to hear some still great sound quality.

One year ago today Jacob Ross Conner and KBYS did something that no other Program Director or Radio Station has ever done (at least not in this area)...brought back Radio DJ Air Personalities from the :"Golden Days of Radio" and put them all on the air for an April Fool's Promotion. The end result (Other than a great day of music and memories) spawned three new shows for KBYS Rockin' Saturday Night on KBYS 5-10pm with John Bridges, Wes Guidry & Friends Rockin Oldies Show on Sunday from 5-9pm and Nova 104 on KBYS with Robyn Daniels Sunday Nights 9pm-1am playing Album Cuts off of actual Records...not to mention Lake Charles' Legendary Weatherman Rob Robin back on the air doing weather info and filling in on an air shift here and there...so Happy Anniversary to all who participated in the promotion and thanks to visionary Jacob Ross Conner and KBYS for making radio worth listening to again!!

He was the president of D.J. Of Lake Charles which owned Nova 104. This episode also contains Jimi Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner" which was used in the sign on and The Outlaws "Green Grass And High Tides which was the first actual song played on Nova 104.
