Women in leadership positions talk about their story and decision-making process as they build their careers amid various life choices.
We have always been curious about Nordics, not just for its pretty landscapes but also a culture that lacks hierarchy and citizens who are the earliest adopters of tech. Today, we dive into Anna's life as a CEO in Sweden and how she built an ecosystem of support around herself to do the things she does.
“Insights, Ideation, Implementation”
Lulu Raghavan, MD, Landor Associates India has broken down the Branding Process for us into a very digestible format, because “If you’re not a brand you are a commodity” as Philip Kotler has pertinently pronounced.
She has been with Landor Associates for 20 years now having done it all for the firm; From traveling to Kuwait for 3 days every week only 2 months after her first child was born to having setup the India office all by herself- she has generously given us an up-close of her very interesting journey.
We also learn about how we can unshackle our minds to inspire creativity willfully (Beginners Guide to Creativity!), the power of compounding and how handy heterogeneity is (Lulu is a polyglot and that is how she landed her first job as a Naming strategist).
In conversation with a PE old timer, Ratna Mehta, lead of the Wadhwani Catalyst Fund. Hena Mehta was working with a start-up in Bengaluru when she decided to pursue her MBA from Wharton. Along with the opportunity, came the financial burden which she was unprepared for at that time. This pain point became the idea behind Basis, a fintech start- up on the quest of making personal-finance accessible to women. Email your feedback to Hena at thefemale50@gmail.com
What is it about running marathons that so many high performers right from Wall Street to start-up founders are attracted to it?
"Running marathons is hard. When you run that much, there are always those last few minutes where you know you can't do it. A sane body wouldn't do it. But you do it anyway. And then you feel emotional because your body could achieve more than you realized...the feeling is so strong that you end up living with it even after. As an entrepreneur, having that feeling of "keep going" is even more important, you and your team are trying so many things for the first time, it's a new idea and the answers don't exist."
You'd be surprised that so many answers for women's health don't exist. 20% of Indian women suffer from PCOS, while 50%* are anemic! For decades, clinical results of research done largely on men were extrapolated to women. But women have a different hormonal cycle and their specific problems haven't been a research priority.
In this episode of The Other 50%, we discuss Sheta Mittal's flying journey from aerospace engineering to a Harvard MBA, why she took the leap of faith to work in China, and how &me innovates and designs products for a globally non-existent category.
