In 1938, Gary’s grandfather opened the original Peerless Restaurant in downtown Johnson City. In 2022, Gary opened Burg’r & Barrel, offering a unique dining scene with a fun & relaxing environment accompanied by the newly designed outdoor area, GATHER JC Depot hosts an innovative beer garden & outdoor bar + an array of different games & activities for a true Johnson City hospitality experience. They have extensive local craft beers, specialty cocktails, assortments of wine, and a wide array of bourbon and whiskey to enjoy.
Burg’r & Barrel Chefs buy local & regional food when possible to support the menu. There is no doubt, these specialty burgers, and smoked meats reign supreme in every bite!
During the interview, we discussed how Burg’r & Barrel came to be and the processes involved to open a state-of-the-art dining experience. We also discussed running a small business in Johnson City, TN, and how the business evolved during the pandemic of 2020. Gary and his family and team undertook to open the restaurant. It helped that the Kalogeros family has 4 generations of experience running a restaurant business in Johnson City, TN.
Gary also discussed Peerless Properties & Development and the role their company played in growing North Johnson City.
