Ash is an emerging fashion designer based in Perth, Australia. She was born in Zimbabwe and grew up in Ipswich, UK, where she developed a love for fashion design. Ash's inspiration comes from her mother, who studied textile design at university, and she modeled her mother's final year designs as a child. This sparked her interest in fashion design and she pursued it seriously at college in the UK, where she graduated in 2018. In late 2019, Ash applied to Tafe and recently graduated with an advanced diploma in Fashion Design and Merchandising.  Ash's fashion line, Ashley Maria fashion, is focused on diversity and re-representation and aims to spread awareness about worldwide social issues. The collection showcases a high-end streetwear look and uses recycled and reworked denim patterns, as well as bold stencil fonts.  Ash has lived in three different countries, and each has had a significant impact on her and her work. She credits Tafe with helping her to gain the skills and experience she needed to succeed in the fashion industry, and believes that she would not be doing fashion if she had not moved to Perth.

Scarcity cultivates Creativity... so Perth's abundant economy (thanks to our luck with mineral resources) has created a culture that doesn't see a value in creativity. Why would Perth value creativity if we already have an abundant economy? Why should we think for ourselves when we can easily get a high-earning job in mining? Why fund the arts when I can already fund my new Landrover and Jetski thanks to Woodside?~ Well it shows in our terrible urban planning, urban sprawl, architectural residential design codes, taste in public art, and Individualistic culture. What's the solution? Cultivate creative community, culture and awareness around these topics.

In this epsiode I chat to Atle Edgar, a Boorloo (Perth) based mixed medium artist and founder of A.I.P Shit (Perth Artists Initiative). Predominately a sculptor, he works in recycled materials, blu-tac. Stylistically, his work is gritty in form, figure, and texture yet colourful, playful and humorous. His work comments on contrasting life perspectives. In this episode we talk about the Perth creative landscape, monetizing art, A.I Art, The psychology of creativity, The Value of Art in Communities, Perth's urban planning, global warming activism, the FIFO bubble economy, Cultural Syncretism, crypto, NFTs, and more!

Sophie Contrusceri is a multidisciplinary artist and creative who is known for her distinct sense of style. This is what drew my interest to Sophie (as she’s also known to model). I was shown her sketch book she was using for her fashion degree and I was blown away. Not only because I’m so used to using and seeing digital devices to plan creative projects, (and her book was completely analogue) but because of the Immense detail and passion for defining the art direction of her projects. Within this book she showcases cuttings, paintings, textures, words it’s pretty incredible. This detail then follows into her garment designs where she may have unique one off cuts that use multiple recycled fabrics with different textures throughout the piece. She also writes, plays music and is keen on photography as well. Yeah it’s safe to say there is a lot to Sophie.

We had an amazing 2.5 hour plus in depth conversation on her, her background her creative direction, influences and projects but we also talk about the many topics affect the art and creative world including;

  • What makes good art?
  • Current state of fashion/ sustainability
  • What defines an artists style
  • Why we are drawn to certain things as creatives
  • Can you seperate the art from the artist?
  • Ethics of cancel/ call out culture
  • Future of fashion

I hope this was enough time for you to somewhat get a grasp of who she is and hopefully learn some things along the way.

Hope you enjoy.

Sev is not only one of the funniest people I have the pleasure of knowing but is also an inspiration to many. He's an example of how if you just keep on following your gut, enjoying the process and trying things, you'll eventually get to the place you want to be. He was a Tradesman, then a semi-pro football player, then a personal trainer, then a teacher and now he works as a wedding photographer, but more importantly he is now a TikTok celebrity where he posts funny, informative and educational videos about the things in his life, that he enjoys. People love it and so does he. Whether you're interested in promoting your business online, learning content strategy hacks or want to know how to deal with the haters, this one is for you.

It’s rare you find a creative with no formal photography training, someone who barely knows the settings of their own camera and yet within 3 years of photography they have already developed their own unique photographic style and the ability to capture loud, eye-catching images that scream out of its two-dimensional-format. Milky Hyde is a Perth based creative photographer and artist. In this episode, we chat about how the context of her upbringing, being out of the school system, self-taught, and surrounding herself with other creatives has influenced her out-of-the-box thinking and freedom to express herself through her work in an unhindered and unrestricted way. Milky doesn’t follow trends, she barely looks at other photographers works, and couldn’t care less about the latest camera gear. Her creative process comes from in the moment observation, diving into mediums without judgement, collaboration and play. Stay tuned to learn how to unrestrict your own creativity. Hope you enjoy!

In this episode, I sat down with Ryan Privacy Clothing (Joined by his twin brother Jason). This is the second show with a creative from a Perth based Streetwear brand. Ryan not only runs the clothing line but is also the Facebook and Marketing campaigns. What are the best strategies when selling your creative products online? Are micro-influencers more effective than accounts with a larger following when promoting products? I love expanding the conversation so we're also joined with another creative on the District HQ team - Dom. Dom runs his own clothing line Elevn Clothing so he shared his insights on the different topics as well.

What up digital creators welcome back to another episode of the podcast. Right here in Perth we have some incredible creatives that are following their passion in a big way and that includes Antoinette Raphael. She is a Perth based fashion designer who runs her own high-end-streetwear-label raw war which has had collections featured around the globe including London fashion week and featured in Britain’s Vogue magazine. Since Raw War began in 2016 the brand has released 5 collections including - The Power Of Vibez, 50/50, Power Culture, Puzzled and Richer.

From the beginning I could tell this brand is deeply grounded in creative processes and concepts which can be seen in the intricate designs, ideas and concepts of each release. I think the future of this clothing brand is powerful which is why I’m excited about this episode!

Let’s dive straight in!
